Hey guys, I searched but didn't see this in the Epic forums. Wanted to get it posted asap because it made the front page of slickdeals not too long ago so it could sell out before long.
Amazon has a 32gb Lexar Class 10 microSD with a card reader for $47 and free shipping. It is sold by Tiger Direct through Amazon. Alternatively, you can go straight to Tiger Direct's website to purchase it for the same price.
*** 11/11/11 Update - Deal is dead through Amazon currently but I checked the Tiger Direct link and it still has the $47.99 price.
*** 12/16/11 Update - Amazon currently has this for $40.77 with Prime Eligibility and Tiger Direct has it for $69.99 - $30.00 Instant Savings = $39.99. Shipping shows up at $2.70 for me bringing the total to $42.69 through TD (YMMV).

Great deal, just bought a Class 4 Sandisk 32GB recently for like $36 so this is priced about right
And I assume from the response that the Epic will recognize and fully utilize a 32 GB card?

Isn't the read/write speed on these phones capped, so would it even really make a difference if I got the Class 4 vs the Class 10. No point in spending another $11 if I don't have to.
I've got my eye on a Patriot and a PNY 32gb for about the same price, just caught up in which brand has a better reputation.

I heard that too but I wonder how capped, I'm gonna possibly review my card tonight from my laptop's reader and mounted through the phone and see if there's a speed difference

I've bought memory sticks from both and haven't had any of them die. Both are great.
32 GB cards
Are these cards coming down in price finally. I looked a while back and they were 100 or more. Also are these the true 32 gig cards(been burned a few times from ebay, even a local seller). I want to find one of these to go along with my extended battery(take that Iphone.)

I have as well, and both make reliable devices. I'm leaning towards the Patriot because all my Patriot USB drives are blazing fast, whereas my PNY drives are just eh on speed.
Thanks for posting.

Has anyone used this card for a decently long time? Interested to know if it spontaneously corrupted or not
Deal is back and better than it was previously. 7 bucks cheaper I think.
I bought this card when I posted the OP and have been using it ever since. I have had no problems with it at all and I'm thinking I might get another one for my Nook Color.
If there's a speed difference on the laptop that makes backing up your SD way less painfully long.
Read the reviews in the Amazon link? A few people complained of corruption and dead cards within weeks or months of purchase. This worries me a bit.
title says it all, i want to get a new micro SD card cuz i dont have enough space for my music on my 16GB so i wantex to know if brand really matters when buying micros cuz i can get a cheaper price on smaller name brands. so, opinions?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I would say it depends on where you buying them from. I would never buy a micro sd card from ebay or similar sites because they might say Samsung on them and you can get them from real cheap, You wouldn't know if they are REAL samsung micro sd cards.
I usually buy mine from newegg.com and they start at $10 for 16gb
I can't say what the difference is to the phone. I bought a 32GB PNY class 10 so I would be able to cut the time it takes to download from my computer to the card with a reader. I have a usb3 port and usb3 reader on my PC which is used mostly for photography. But when I transfer music and movies to my card for my phone it is faster by three fold.
The faster the card, really the better. If you get some random off brand, who knows where that card came from, and if the speed rating is even accurate. Some places house brands are pretty good though, I dunno who makes Microcenter's memory but they are very cheap and have yet to have a problem with them. However the real issue would be reliability. It's always a good idea to backup your card, but I rather have my data and photos on a name I can trust. 60 bucks for the PNY 32gb class 10 was a good deal for me.
On this particular phone, you can consider the SD card like your computer's hard drive. Would you really go get some off-brand from ebay for your PC to save a few dollars? I know I wouldn't. Not worth the headache of losing important data.
I understand faster cards works better. However, I never really notice any difference in speed in my class 4, class 6 or class 10 in Galaxy 4g. I do notice little different in my galaxy s2. I can see the difference when I run benchmarks but in my opinion the speed of card also depends on speed of your device.
i would love to get a PNY one, but ive bought three usb drives from them and all of them habe literally fallen apart...

I would agree with this. The name only is relevant if your buying from a unknown vendor. But if your going with newegg or some other online retailer other than some random ebay auction as long as it is the size you want I dont think it really matters.
The class of the sdcard is somewhat releveant depending on what you are doing with it. The typical android user will not notice that much of a increase of a class 10 over a class 4. But if your taking bunches of photos and videos or playing videos on your phone the class ten are going to perform "better".
Just to reiterate the name brand isnt as much of a issue if you are buying from a legit source. I bought a dane elctric one several years back and haven't had any problems other than the adapter went out. The card itself works flawlessly.
for short, i would buy a memory card with reasonable price and wouldn't easily break ;-)

When I was looking for a new sd card I found this article to be extremely helpful. It even has some different name brands for comparison as well as links to more information about different classes and user reviews.

My PNY 32GB class 10 speed.
Sequential
21.59MB/s read - 11.55MB/s write
This is using a 50MB file.
I would like to test the 4k transfers, but in order to test with a file size less than 50MB I would have to wipe the card. I'll do it just not any time real soon.

It really depends on how exactly you are using your sd card. I know in the OP you said you have a lot of music. Do you typically clear all of your music and transfer all new stuff to the phone?
I have been using a sandisk class 6 for quite some time now and I absolutely love it. It is perfect for my needs. But I do not do a lot of heavy music on my sd card. I have read that even the class 10 Lexar sd cards have terrible random speeds, so I would definitely avoid them at all costs.

This site has a really good deal on a class 4 32gb for today only. I order from them quite a bit. The only issue I ever have is sometimes it takes a while to be delivered.
avoid amazon? or..
if I order from amazon, should I be wary of the brand name? like, have some of you bought via amazon what appeared to be a kingston or whatever known brand, only to find it probably is not?
I read the advice about watching the source carefully....
I have not ever had that issue with amazon before. I guess that it is possible but very unlikely in my opinion.
Its not like ebay where i would never trust that it is legitimate. I have ordered quite a bit from amazon without a single hitch or mistake.
Always be wary of ordering online though... because it can happen.

As long as it is from amazon and not a store. But again amazon is better about policing its stores than ebay is. I have bought from amazon many times and not once had a problem with getting a different product then what I ordered.
that's comforting. so I shall order the sandisk 32gb microsd from them. not bad for 25 bucks I guess. I hear it works fine in the Galaxy s 4G.
you know.... this is an aside... I am getting that phone [its on the way] for my wife, but I fear I shall like it. .. then what? but she's never used Android b4 so maybe she will barf

Hope this helps someone. Much faster than the Evo if you plan to use a card reader or just want to swap it out for another device.
is it THAT much better than the EVO? i just got one, but i read the phones can't really read over 48mbps anyway so it doesn't matter.

if you plan to keep it in your note 4 then it won't make a difference. It only makes a difference if you plan to plug it into a USB 3.0 card reader or use the card for another device like a GoPro in the future

I own both and have to say the difference is not noticeable . The write and read speeds seem to peak at what the max is with the evo. Good price though if you are in the market but I wouldnt waste the money if you already own the evo 64gb
it's actually 30$ http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-64GB-..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0G3XAWD827KB40WBKFXZ
That's the larger SD card. Won't fit..
I got the Pro to future proof a bit. Maybe the next 2 gens of Androids will be able to make use of the speeds.
posted via my Obsidian VZW Note 4
It's a hardware limitation. The software can go as far as the hardware can provide. If there was a way to toggle the software to make use of higher speeds, it would produce enough heat to bake the phone and in worst case, result in internal damage to the PCB (Something Samsung doesn't want you to know; they only repair phones, not replace them, lol). I still feel that I should purchased the Developers Edition of the Note 4 (Verizon Model) to be used on AT&T, but still currently backordered on Samsung's site.

Yeah, as soon as I bought a GoPro, I instantly regretted having slow cards. At $35 this a no brainer. The Evo can probably handle 1080p at 60 fps but not at 120. And considering you will be pulling the sd out of the GoPro and putting it in your phone all the time, your phone card will be used in the GoPro all the time. This is probably the best deal ever on a micro sd.
Using Wifi File Transfer Pro, with a Wireless AC Router, I routinely get 65mb write speeds while copying a rom from my desktop to the extSdcard, MB-MG64DA/AM
Hello all,
I should be getting my 64GB Galaxy s6 tomorrow(so pumped up...new toy) but i am hoping that with all the stuff i have on my phone now that 64GB will be enough.
Am i the only one that is thinking this?
Most likely i will play with it over the weekend and see what to do then. but i think i should have gone bigger..
Thanks
I got the 64GB to replace my S4 16GB+32GB mSD which I never filled. The price to upgrade to 64GB on Edge wasn't bad, and even though I never filled it before, 32GB felt "limiting"
164GB just sounded silly for my needs. But, if I traveled more I'd want the music and movie storage

Also got the 64gb.
Had to stop myself from buying the 64gb edge.. Was a lot easier when the guy offered a wireless charger, meant less money to spend.
64gb because 128 is far too much and 32gb is far too little.
If I wanted more than 64gb I'd simply OTG it up!
i bought the Edge 64GB because they didnt have the 128GB available and will learn to live with less space.
bigger is always better
you should have gone for the 128gig one, especially when u start talking about movies and series they will gobble up your space in no time.
128 GB because...
- It's only $100 more than the 64 GB.
- Even with cloud storage and services, I like to download torrents directly to my phone to watch later.
- If I want higher quality music, I'll download FLAC files and those take up a lot of space.
- I know I'll regret getting anything less than the max space they offer.
- I can't add space at a later date.
- The phone will definitely have a high resale value as this is most-likely the rarest S6.
- It's only $100 more than the 64 GB.

Which is only $100 more than the 32GB. But in the end you are talking about $599 vs $799 which is a huge difference.

It would be higher than the 32GB, but you aren't going to come close to recouping the $200 premium.

But still more than if I were to sell a 32 GB or 64 GB a year from now.
I am getting the 128gb just planning ahead. Who knows what is in store for us in the future, and I just wanted to make sure that I had enough.
I too am coming from an S4 with 16gb +32gb SD (since the S5 wasn't a large enough leap to make the change), as I am sure many feel the same way.
I ordered the 128gb because there isn't a micro SD slot anymore, and I don't want to have to worry about memory. Just peace of mind really.
I picked up the 64gb version. Although the 128 was only another $100, I didn't need that much space.
I too got the 64gb. You have 50gb free on a new device. For me that's plenty and if I fill it up with pics I can just dump them on my computer. I also have a tablet with an SD card I can store stuff on. If I only had a phone though I might opt for more.
I got the 64 because I had an s5 worth a 16 gig sd card and both were pretty full. Also like stated before, who knows what's in store for us in the future. Also, apps seem to be getting bigger and bigger.
So the system files take up 14 GB?

System is a little over ten and then apps take up some more. It's between 12 and 14. Don't remember exact number.
I got the regular Galaxy S6 64GB in black sapphire on Verizon. I used about 20-25GB on average when I was using my Galaxy S4. So 64GB seems to be more appropriate for me. 128GB would have been nice but for the price point, I don't need it that much.

i purchased a 128gb white S6. I'm coming from a 32GB + 64GB SD Card S5. I like to download my spotify playlist to the phone, i also listen to tons of podcasts, plus I sync my school files/work files to the phone through Dropbox/Dropsync. I don't want to worry about running out of space.
Well i decided to trading up to a 128gb from 64gb. I talked to Verizon and made the trade.
I should be getting the 128gb on the 24th, so until then i will be using the 64gb:good:

Hello guys, I guess we don't have this discussion here yet. So one of the reasons that m9 kicks ass is having an sd card slot. But which brand is the best, most reliable and fast? What is your 128gb choice?

I've been shooting 4K video on it and it has the proper read/write speeds to manage that efficiently. I checked the reviews prior to purchase and they're extremely positive; among the highest of all of the choices on amazon believe it or not.

Nah, I think that 64GB is probably more than enough to cover you for quite a while. The only reason I personally got the 128 is because 64 was cutting it close for me to be able to store my 36GB of music, my 10GB of photos, nandroid backups, and have room to shoot some 4K. If you're not doing any of this, 64 is a lot of storage and it'll take you ages to fill it. Save yourself $80 and grab one of the 64 cards on a sale via amazon. I've seen Samsung, PNY, and Sandisk all get down under $30 for the 64gb cards. All class 10.

Hey guys,
Just ordered my 128GB Ultra Micro SD MicroSDXC 48MB/s Class 10 UHS-I and waiting to receive it
I always use http://www.memorybits.co.uk for memory cards - they are the cheapest I have found (been using them for years) considering the products are always genuine and reliable.
If you're not from the UK, they have a list of partner sites on the left-hand side - essentially the same site for other countries; I suppose they have warehouses in different countries that they ship from.
Personally, I would never buy memory from eBay or Amazon again - I have fallen for cheap cards in the past. There are just too many fakes around and it's not worth the risk. Even if you get the storage capacity you expect, the chances of a "too-good-to-be-true" kind of deal on a high capacity card lasting more than a day before corrupting all your data are pretty slim
Also, standard delivery is free, they accept PayPal and they have branched out over the years and do a fair bit more than just memory cards
I promise I'm not affiliated in anyway Although I should be on commission :good:
128GB Samsung Evo+ the best and fastest micro sd you can get with transferrates up to 80MB/s. It is also waterproof, shatterproof and safe against radioactivity.
