I bought my oneplus one and thought it would be a good phone to learn how to build and compile a rom for it, would you say this is a good guide or do you have any better ones?

If you read the replies to the thread, you'll find your answer. Compiling roms is not so standard, you'll encounter problems. If you're not familiar with development, stick to just downloading the roms. It takes considerable amount of time establishing the environment.

Hey guys, I've been playing around with building CM quite a bit lately. I've made more than a handful of apps. I've read tons of articles, including the ones in the infamous post that Cyanogen made. I'm just looking for answers to a couple questions. First of all, I understand how to build CM from source, but I don't know where to get the files for the transformer. I know you can get the kernel source from asus, but I'm wanting to modify the stock rom. Also, is there some sort of method similar to using the extract-files.sh script that cyanogenmod uses when setting up your environment? One last thing, once I get all of those and I make the modifications that I want, how do I build said rom? Do I have to write the make files myself?
I've searched all over the place for at least a month on and off now. If I'm just retarded, then flame away, but every time I ask somebody for help I'm just met with "You need to read more." If somebody could please just help me out a little here I would greatly appreciate it.
Mods can you delete this? I figured it out on my own...

I'm buiding a ROM as well and searching for inforation as well...
Alright alright haha. I'm still getting things straightened out, but I'll tell you what I know so far. I've got alot of studying to do right now, but you can add me on google talk. [email protected]. I'll be posting tutorials on my website for various things including the ROM stuff that I learn once I get finished with finals. I'll post a link here when I get some tutorials up.
Just let me know who you are when you add me.
Cool, three months from now you'll probably have almost everyone that wants to make a ROM, trying to add you.

Well I am more than willing to help. I've had my struggles and there are very few people who seem to want to. Of course I would imagine that most of the people who are developers on here get bombarded with messages all the time. I'll probably end up posting some tutorials on my site eventually. Hopefully that will help.
i have heard people drop the phrase "daily driver" or list daily drivers in thier signature lines. as i refer to the super thread, i notice some people are listing kernals and some are listing roms as thier daily driver in thier sinature lines.
If i understand the term, is the daily driver not basically the workhorse or your phone?
I AM pretty noobie-ish, not to mention a dullard. been reading posts for m
months and just now figured why i couldnt post or reply to threads.
Is there an advantage to flashing something specific as a "daily driver"?
I believe, and I am a noob also..... that most people are stating that a given rom being a daily driver is bug free, and has all the functions working that they depend on. Thus good enough to use daily vs just test.
And just because it functions as, for example I need, doesn't mean it will for you.
Example, if you feel you really NEED HDMI, some roms defined as daily drivers might not be for you.
Daily driver is just the name of a fashable mod for the infuse
There isn't daily updates for it its just a name
You can find out more about it here

yup..just like bigjoe said, it's what you would use everyday...hence the dd.
Entropy's DD kernel is what he ran on his phone when he had the infuse.
It may be shocking for you to find out that some users flash several roms a day out of boredom...bigjoe may be one such person.
You are not able to respond in some thread because you need @ least 10 posts before you can post in the development area.
You can reply in Q/A or general though...there is no restrictions there.
Yeah, I knew I couldn't post in development, but for months I wasn't able to figure out why I couldn't post anywhere. I figured out I was never sent the link to activate my participation. For months I have been reading and was able to get rooted and flash Rome, in actuality, thanks to your posts. Had not been even able to post the many thanx to people like you, dman and the rest of the collective who sacrifice so much of their time and effort to people like me and development. Thanx to all and I hope to now get more involved.

Firstly, One solution would be for you to post in the correct forum Q&A would be better..........
Secondly, you could always learn to and build and develop a ROM from scratch yourself. I did !!
I feel your post is a "slap in the face" to all contributing in this forum! Complaining is not constructive!
Many of us have other 'lives' outside XDA. It takes an awful lot of reading, research, setup, trial and many errors of testing, patience, TIME, and all of the above many times over and over.
We are not paid to share what we've created/cooked/kanged/modded/themed etc, we give back to the community because we enjoy it, not because we are obliged to do so.

Your questions should be addressed in the Q&A section, not in the development section
Questions belong in the Q&A forum. Thread has been moved.

Also, OP, please read this post. they makes very good points that should be understood by everyone that uses this site. Thanks
Another big reason is the fact that the P6800 is not widely available in the USA, Verizon does carry the 7.7 but that model will always be the last one to get development if any. Another reason is that many tabs are the international model and also the fact that it is a very expensive device to own. If I where you I would just learn to love the current ROM we have which it's pretty good. Also please take a look at this article on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892009
Once you read this hopefully you will realize another reason why there so few roms available

I've had a couple ROMS on my phone but I'm possibly looking to switch again. Ive been on Axism for a while now. I like it but have had some gps issues.
Is there a good daily driver out there right now? Opinions?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
honestly it depends what you like. For TW I cant tell you. I've used hyperdrive which i find pretty stable and a great daily driver. I don't use TW much. CM, I like Rootbox and Paranoidandroid, great features pretty solid too.
There is no best rom.. Just find something that works good for you.

These types of threads get closed down. There isn't any best rom there never had been and never will be. Lastly I don't think the Q and A section was meant for people who can't make up their minds about what rom to choose. I know I sound like a douche but this isn't a support site per se.
I'm not looking for support. I'm looking for opinions based upon experience.
If I was asking for a guide or instructions (which many people do), that would be support.
I'm asking what opinions are on the best and most stable daily driver based on experience.
So many elitist forum police on XDA. It's ridiculous one can't even ask for opinions in the Q and A forum without someone scolding them.

Liquidsmooth v2.9 (AOSP ROM) is what I will highly recommend.
Flash BMS 3.4 kernel for even better battery life and you're set.

I completely agree, it's impossible to tell you what's a good daily driver. They are all good in their own way, and this same question gets asked almost every single day.
This isn't even scolding, you can ask away but when you can get the same answer a couple pages back it gets extremely tiresome seeing the same threads pop up.
For anyone reading this thread who wants advice on a good daily driver, look at all the threads, find the features you like, try it out on your phone and see if it plays nice on your hardware.
Additionally, here's a thread already made that has everyone's experiences on their rom of choice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030478

I'm a big fan of MOAR rom. I've tried CM, Bonestock, PA, and Liquid Smooth. MOAR has all the features I look for, leaves out crap I don't use (not a fan of PIE and Halo), is stable and has good battery life. The themes are really nice too- love Soylent Green.

well its pretty annoying to give the same answers to people who are unwilling to put in minimal amounts of work to find the answer or who expect be spoonfed some opinions on roms.
these threads get closed literally every single week.
there are no best roms out there. thats an opinion and very subjective. everyones phone runs different, everyone uses different apps and features in their roms.
if you dont like the correct asnwers to your questions then dont ask questions that dont really have answers.
nobody was rude to you, they gave you the best possible advice. read, test, try, decide what you need/want. ive run more than 15 different roms and theyve all been DD worthy.
No such thing as a Best ROM
Hi
I am looking for recommendations for stable roms. Right now I'm running the ViperXL which is pretty stable I don't see much problems except some hiccups but it's overall a good rom. I wanted to see some opinions on other roms and if they are stable. I want to try a new rom
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Asking which ROM is best/most stable isn't allowed here. To say one is better is to infer that the others are inferior in some way, this isn't fair to the devs who put in a lot of work in their spare time to give us these ROMs free of charge. It's really up to you to do your research, check out a few ROMs, do some reading in the threads and you'll soon find out what bugs may or may not be present.

Its not like we have an overwhelming Nexus sized lot to choose from here. Test driving the great ROMs we are privileged to have is half the fun IMO. Ahhhh the day I achieved s-off.....
If you don't have time to get behind every wheel then just follow tim's course of action. Research. After thoroughly reading the OP of a ROM you are interested in, browse the last couple pages of the thread to bring yourself up to speed.
Active members here are quick to report bugs and issues.
Sent from my One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah I agree, flashing different ROMs is half the fun. You're definitely gonna end up flashing something you don't like but another ROM is only ever another flash away. We do have some great active members here, reading the last five or ten pages of any thread usually gives a great snapshot of how the ROM is performing.
Sent from my Evita
Agree with the above responses. Also, stability is largely a function of how you have your particular device setup, and how you as an individual use it. Your mileage can (and will) vary compared to others. So asking others for a "stable ROM" is not going to tell you much.
Asking for a ROM suggestion is also just lazy. Its easy to look though the ROMs and see what issues people have (or aren't) having. Pick a couple that look like they fit your needs and preferences, and flash away.
