If you can get into bootloader, use fastboot to install cwm or twrp, then try use the adb pull command to copy files on your phone to your PC. Or you could make a backup with cwm/ twrp then see what you can recover from that.
Or you can try one of those toolkits, they have all kinds of nifty options.

[Q] Nexus s 4g locked up

Okay, first of all I know, I'm a total noob. I have followed these forums a long time and have successfully rooted a few phones. One of which was my nexus s 4g. I was trying to unroot the phone so I could get ics. This is when I ran into problems and right now I just want to be able to get my phone working again. Right now I am stuck on the Miui boot up screen and no matter how long I wait it stays on that screen. If I do a battery pull and hold down power and vol up I can get into the bootloader screen with the information as follows: fastboot mode, product name-Herring, HW Version Rev 34, Bootloader version-D720SPAKE1, Baseband version-D720SPAKE1, Carrier info, SPR, serial number-37308B81276A00EC, Lock State-locked. Then the different options I can choose are reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery, power off. If I choose reboot, it takes me back to the mius screen and stays there. If I choose recovery, I get the triangle with the exclamation point. I then hold power and up volume again and I get a screen that says Android system recovery <3e> with reboot system now, apply update from sd card wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. I have tried all of these as well with no luck. When I go to apply update from sd card I get matrix-cfs_v15.5 zip, root.zip, update.zip and then what looks like apps such as Alarms/, Android/,MIUI?, etc. If I try to select any of the first ones such as matrix-cfs_v15.5 zip, I get Install /sdcard... , finding update package..., opening update package..., verifying update package..., E.signature verification failed, Installation aborted. Then it gives me the system recovery options again. Any help would be appreciated.
Did you try ADB fastboot method?
Not sure how to try that
I tried doing the adb, followed all directions and installed and when I go to the command prompt and type in anything, such as, adb reboot bootloader I get, adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
ok I got that working now but when I type adb devices and press enter I get a message saying List of devices attached and then it doesn't show anything and I get the command prompt again saying:c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
also since the phone is stuck in either the miui screen or bootloader I can't get into it to put it in usb debugging mode. I am trying on my own to get this going and am stuck any and all help would be very much appreciated.

I think that means you have a locked bootloader.
And from what you're telling, I believe you have stock recovery.
Also, when you're in fastboot mode, I don't think adb commands apply. Use fastboot commands instead (i.e. fastboot devices).
Search for guides showing you how to install and use fastboot.
I did fastboot as well and the problem I think I am having is it's not recognizing my phone because usb debugging wasn't turned on before it locked up. How would I get it to recognize my phone or download an img to my phone if it is not being recognized. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
You don't need usb debugging in fastboot mode.
You either:
1. Don't have drivers installed.
2. Don't have fastboot installed correctly.
You really need to read a guide or two, through and thoroughly.
Bc it sounds like you have no clues.
Yeah dude. Take a step back and go over what you have installed and where you installed it.Yes, fastboot commands start with fastboot instead of adb. And you're on stock recovery.
Thanks for the answer that I don't need usb debugging in fastboot mode, I wasn't sure of that. I have downloaded and installed my drivers multiple times and when I use the device manager to update drivers it says I have the latest drivers installed already. Whenever I do fastboot commands I will type in fastboot devices and shouldn't my device serial number come up? It just gives me the line c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools>
And is waiting on me to type a command in. And yes I have been looking at guides all night. I appreciate any help you guys might have and remember we were all noobs at one time.
The zip in this tutorial should help.
It has adb, fastboot, and the drivers needed.
And unlock the bootloader because it is locked.
Finally got it, I had everything downloaded that I needed already, but looking at different forums, etc, it seemed like everyone named it something different. So I just used the one link you gave me and did it exactly the same way and it worked. Thanks so much! and again thanks for your patience.

[Q] stuck in boot loop / pc not recognizing phone with adb

Hi,
I tried to install a ROM but it got stuck on the white screen with the HTC logo. I tried to do factory reset but it gets stuck again. I don't have clockwork recovery, and I rooted my phone using adb and ace recovery, which is not on my phone. I only temporarily used it to flash my rom, stupid I know. :-/ When I connect my phone to the PC it is not being recognized. I tried putting the PD98IMG.zip file on my sd card but it just says that it the image is incorrect. Is there anything I can do? Is this fixable?

I just went through some similar stuff. What type of computer are you using? PC/Mac? Are you using the original cable? What troubleshooting steps for connectivity have you done? Different cable? USB port?
Can you access the bootloader screen when you pull the battery and reboot while holding the volume button down and holding the power button? By accident, I found that the phone and PC will communicate with each other when "Fastboot" is selected on the bootloader screen (you should hear a connection chime and it should change to "Fastboot USB") except I could only get fastboot commands to work. The good news is that should be enough to flash a boot or whatever else you need to get back in business.

That's great you're getting the fastboot usb message! As long as you're not using a hub or some other usb extender, any functioning usb port on the pc will do. Again, I learned this by accident (ie the hard way) and found that in this mode, only fastboot commands will work, not adb. (on a side note, and others should correct me here, adb and fastboot work together when the phone is rebooted normally or in recovery but not in the bootloader screen)
Great test for connection: fastboot devices (if you get anything else except a serial # with fastboot after it, then close the cmd window, unplug, and pull battery/reboot to bootloader), fastboot reboot-bootloader. Once it reboots back into the bootloader screen, make sure you press the power button while fastboot is selected and you should again hear the chime and see fastboot usb come up. This is your phone saying it's ready to accept your fastboot commands.
Do let us know how it works.

As far as I know, fastboot only works when your phone is in fastboot mode. ADB works in recovery or system.

Flash a rooted stock ROM from recovery. Whether you have root is in your system partition. Whether your bootloader is unlocked is in your bootloader. Whether you have a custom recovery is in your recovery partition. Three separate things.

I'm guessing that you're trying to flash a PD98IMG.zip or a RUU. You need an actual stock rooted ROM, probably from here on the forum. Or just flash Android Revolution HD, an optimized rooted stock ROM, also from here on the forum in the development section. For more specific steps read the Ace Think Tank linked in my signature.

ok, got it. Thank you again
Dear friends,
I have this problem: I got a brand new TCL S720 and the Google Play did not work, being a known rom issue. So, before doing anything, I've managed to make a backup of it's original rom with MTK Droid tools whichI supose it did it well. Then I've tried to install a CWM recovery to try a custom rom for it. The CWM recovery seemed to install succesfully but I didn't manage to install the new rom. If I remember well, it stucked on boot logo. Then tried to revert at it's original stock recovery, managed to have the phone back as it was in initial state, but doing more tries, It remained stucked on boot logo. The problem is that my computer doesn't recognise it anymore, when I connect it to USB it tries to install MTP usb driver but even before the driver was installed well, now it refuse to install, like the driver is not good or the proper driver doesn't exist. So the only thing I can do is to boot on stock recovery but even I tried to copy the original rom update.zip on external SD and to flash the phone using install update from sd card in recovery mode, It doesn't find the external sd card. So I'm stuck here, the computer doesn't detect the phone to try flashing it with SP flash tool or MTK Droid tool, and I also can't flash it from sd card. Have you any idea how to make it work again?
Thanks in advance.

Completely stock OnePlus One stuck in bootloop after latest CM OTA update

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping you can help me. I've had a OnePlus One since August 2014, completely stock. Never modded it, never 'flashed' anything, never installed anything outside of the Google Play Store. Always installed the official OTA updates as they pop up on the phone itself. Basically a reeeeealllly boring android user!
So Thursday morning (09/06/2016) I got a notification that a system update was downloaded and ready to install. Clicked install, the process began, phone rebooted as per usual. However, on the install progress screen (the green android with the spinning cogs), about one third of the way through the phone freezes. About 20 seconds later the phone reboots itself and then tries to install the update again. Freezes. Reboots. Tries to install. Freezes. Reboots. Tries to install.... I think you get the idea. It was doing this for a couple of hours before I checked it.
I'm moderately tech-savvy but never really got involved with android modding, rooting or flashing. So I'm a bit confused as to why my completely stock phone is stuck in a bootloop after installing an official CyanogenMod OTA update. The current status of my phone is that I can only boot into Fastboot mode via VolUp + Power. I can get my computer to detect my phone in Fastboot mode, however it informs me that my bootloader is locked. Attempting to boot into recovery mode via VolDown + Power just starts the update install and enters the bootloop.
I've done some research in to flashing a recovery image or manually applying the OTA update. One problem I've noticed is that I have absolutely NO idea what version of Android / CM my device was at before the update, and I have NO idea what version it was trying to update to. I do know that it was some version of Marshmallow before it broke. I've had no issues with the phone before this, aside the occasional self-reboot.
I REALLY want to keep all my data (pictures, contacts etc.) and am very nervous about actually doing anything because I have very little idea as to what I'm really doing.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to get my phone to boot/update/recover through Fastboot with a locked bootloader and without losing any data?
Thanks,
Stormin'
AKA the "HOW DO I PLAY BOOM BEACH NOW?!" guy
Edit: I solved my issue. It might work for you too, permalink to my post (#9) below: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67278091&postcount=9
Are you able to get into recovery mode? If so, you should be able to just flash a new ROM. Sideload one using the adb push command, wipe your data (this will clear settings, apps, etc. DO NOT SELECT SD CARD - that will wipe your personal files including your photos). Then install. Hopefully it should all work fine.
If you can't access the recovery can you access the bootloader sceen (the one with the big green bugdroid)? Then I'd suggest using Fastboot to install a new recovery. Then try the above.
If you can't even get to that stage you're screwed, just like me (unless anyone has any ideas). I've had soft bricks many times before but today I can't even get to the bootloader screen. ADB says the phone is offline. The screen is back and flickers on for a split second every now and then. Bloody CM Updater.
As IBM9001 has said, if you can get into recovery - even being stock - you can still clear your cache - don't do a full factory reset, just the cache, this may help, but even if it doesn't it still rules out one option.
I can't access recovery mode, using the key combo it just boots straight into the installer.
I've got a support ticket open with OnePlus and a scheduled remote assistance tomorrow. However from the preparational email it looks like they are going to factory reset the phone and then clean install CM. They've instructed me to make sure that all my files are backed up... I assume this means I will lose them.
Is there ANY way just to access or pull the photos off my phone? That's the most important bit. Dropbox hit its storage limit at the beginning of 2015 and I refused to pay, so now I have 18 months worth of pictures that I have no other copies of on death row
The only thing I can access is Fastboot...

I can boot into Fastboot mode, and plugging my phone into my PC works i.e. it is recognised. I have the fastboot .exe and USB drivers, and can issue commands to my phone through cmd such as
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
which works.
How do I use a recovery .img through Fastboot? or can I pull the contents of the sd card through Fastboot?
Hey mate i had same problem with my friends phone. But in that case i was able to open recovery mode.. So if you can do that just download any full zip of opo.. Like cm12.1 or cm13. Then flash it without clearing data.. So will not loose amything not even a single application..
I did that by using adb sideload just google it how to use it. And for that download full android sdk toollit and then download only fastboot and adb domt download whole studio. Because somete old version of adb and minifastboot will not work on adb sideload... So good luck with that..

If I flash a new recovery from fast boot will I lose my data on sdcard?

I'm currently having a very similar issue, but my phone completed the update. It's just stuck in a reboot/"optimizing apps" loop. I can boot into recovery and I tried to clear cache, but It's still just optimizing apps then rebooting and optimizing again over and over. Do you think your suggestion would help me too?
Wooooo, I've fixed it! I don't know why what I did fixed the issue (probably bypassed something) but my phone is up and running again! First thing I'm doing is making a freakin' backup!
So I was just trying everything in desperation. So that others can attempt to fix the same problem, here's what I did:
1. State of phone was either boots normally and crashes when installing update, or boots into fastboot. Would NOT boot into recovery!
2. Booted into fastboot using key combo (hold Volume Up, then Power Button)
3. Attached phone to computer via data usb lead
4. Started up cmd console, used command "fastboot devices" to check that device was recognised (note you need the fastboot files and USB drivers etc., Google it if you're not sure)
5. Used command "fastboot continue" to continue with 'autoboot'. This rebooted my phone but skipped the installer and went to the 'optimising apps' stage. Left phone alone for a couple of hours but it got stuck in another bootloop optimising apps, rebooting, optimising apps and so on.
6. Turned phone off, then booted normally with just the power button. This started the update install again except it didn't crash, and completed the update install. Then it optimised the apps again (albeit with a different total app count) and once finished, phone starts up normally.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Happy to have my phone back. Now to go through the half-dozen or so voicemails I've collected over these last few days... great.
Hi guys,
@stormin, congrats!
@masterjigar, so you didn't lose the data like photos etc. doing so?
I can boot to recovery, but can't connect by PC to it.
In fast boot mode my PC sees it as well as in dab sideload mode.
I haven't the boot loader unlocked then I have to do it first, right?
But cyanogen site says that unlocking the boot loader will wipe all the device data.
Is there any way get the photos and other files back?
Thanks.
From the FAQ:
Q4a: Can I flash ROMs or SuperSU or anything else with the stock recovery?
No, the stock recovery can only flash zips that are signed by CM, this means official updates only. You need a custom recovery to flash anything else.

That's what adb sideload is all about. It will give you temporary adb access (which is always after unlocking bootloader and root). So you can also flash xip via sideload. Without losing data and media..
Same problem, Also PC not detecting my phone
Hey Guys, I am Stuck at the same thing at Bootloop. But to do anything further I need to connect my phone to the PC. I haven't been able to connect my phone to PC since the time I have got the phone. If any one has a working driver pls share the link. Its been three days now that my phone is dead.
Pls help!!
Thanks in advance.

You have to use fastboot.

Help! Deleted EVERYTHING on ZTE N817

Okay, so when trying to flash CM ROM, I stupidly ended up wiping EVERYTHING in the "wipe" option. Trying to recover it, I tried sideloading the file through ADB, but TWRP would disconnect off the PC and say failed (TWRP version 3.0.2-0). Pushing a ROM zip won't work, as the phone only connects to the PC as ADB Sideload mode ('error: closed' is what it would say), and nothing else would work except sideload. I no longer have a working OTG cable, as my last one broke on me a week ago. The PC will not connect to phone on the 'Mount USB' option from TWRP. Plz help! I'm running out of ideas. I did make a backup (using Online Nandroid Backup, no it wasn't a zip) on the SD card, but TWRP will not read the SD card on my device. Note that the only thing I have is TWRP; no bootloader, no Fastboot, no nothing. Just TWRP.

Note that the only thing I have is TWRP; no bootloader, no Fastboot, no nothing. Just TWRP.

You can connect to ADB but the adb push command isn't working when you try to move the ROM.zip to the device?
Get a new OTG cable.
The nandroid backup you made should have been done in TWRP and stored on extsdcard instead of the online backup, online backup is crap because it only works in certain conditions, it's useless when the device can't connect to a network.

Yes. ADB commands other than sideload will say 'error:closed', and ADB Sideload will just end up making the phone disconnect. At this point, I may HAVE to end up getting a new OTG Cable.
Yes, I was trying to do the backup on TWRP, but as it couldn't read the SD Card, I used Online Nandroid Backup. Then I realized that everything I was doing was completely stupid while I wiped EVERYTHING....

Try rooting the device and then use the Stick Mount app, if your device has the hardware to support OTG, that should enable it, but if your device does not have the hardware to support OTG then it doesn't matter what you do softwarewise or what you modify, it has to have the hardware or it can't do it at all.
Things like this are why I'd never buy or own a ZTE device of any kind. Relatively soeakibg, they are all junk.

Only thing is, I dont HAVE any system to boot in order to check that. I guess I'm out of luck, no wonder why others said this phone was crap.

If you can use adb shell or fastboot, you can try getting a copy of system.img from someone with your exact device and dd or fastboot flash the img.

Any ADB commands other than Sideload will just respond as error:closed, as the computer only reads the system when in ADB Sideload mode. However, when trying to sideload a ROM, the phone will disconnect and say failed, while the computer stays on xfer: 0.00. Maybe I could get some instructions to fix that? Maybe a bad TWRP version? If so, I'm ****ed...
After reading other pols forums, it seems that I didn't have to delete the internal storage........

Sideloading a ROM won't work.
Try
adb reboot bootloader
If you can boot to bootloader or fastboot you can try finding the firmware for another device that has all of the exact same hardware components that your device has then try fastboot flashing it or extract the separate .imgs from the firmware and use the fastboot commands to flash the boot.img and system.img.

can't get into fastboot, ADB command says error: closed, while doing the command in terminal in the TWRP menu keeps me on ZTE screen (only reboot recovery works, not as ADB command but in terminal).

Did you ever get the TWRP for this? I have it in my dropbox pm me.
The issue were running into is that the TWRP on this model can't see the ext sd. The backup is 1.5 or 2gb which is usually too large to fit on the internal SD
Slacker is working hard at modding the Fstab file to make TWRP see that storage. Any ideas please let him or I know([email protected] or here )
I'm also working on an EquiMods custom ROM for this. Bare bones battery saver, switchable to performance when needed.
Anyone know if and how these can be overclocked?
I have a deodex rom done for this phone and also should have the working twrp recovery by morning. The cm11.0 ive been working on is almost done. I hope Everytime i flash it to phone i get white screen. Also im going to install xposed on it in the morning. I think i found the fix for that to work
Any news on this? I can't find anything that works with this phone. I have adb sideload working, but that's pretty useless from what I understand.

They obviously got something to work since there are members in this thread that have TWRP installed on their devices, that means they can at least root the device but I doubt there are any ROMs for this device.

I've rooted my N817 but never made an Nandroid backup. I still have TWRP up and working but I've tried to flash the 2 roms I know of....they both "install" but when I try to boot It stays in the ZTE screen...Help!

Can you be more specific about your booting issues?
Is the device boot looping? How far through the booting process do you get before failure? and what happens after failure?
Can you get your phone into recovery mode or download mode?

Sometimes it gets ON normally and after some time it reboots itself and then it keeps doing it again and again, and sometimes it gets on and goes straight to the recovery mode, and yes i can get my phone into download mode too.
If you have precious data you want to keep, then you should create a back up of your phone, if you haven't already done so.
If you're unconcerned about data or have created a backup, then you could factory restore from recovery mode.
Alternatively, if you haven't got the latest version of Odin, then you could try downloading the latest Odin software and attempt another flash.
Another thing you could try, is to sideload the update via adb. You will of course need the latest adb software which is easy to find. You can follow this xda guide here (https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/), or if you prefer it you could download Android Studio from here (https://developer.android.com/studio).
To sideload the update you will have to:
1. Boot phone into recovery mode. Hold the volume up, home, and power buttons, and then let go of the power button when it power on.2. When in recovery mode, select the option, "Apply update from ADB."3. With your phone plugged into the computer, open the cmd/terminal and type "adb devices". The cmd should start up adb and display something like:List of devices attached[device id] sideload4. Navigate to the folder that contains the update file. It needs to be a .zip file.5. Type in the command, "adb sideload [file name]".
To make things easy you can set up adb so you can run its commands from any directory, the steps for this are covered at the end of the xda guide I have linked.

I tried to update from ADB but it said, unauthorized access!
and I also think it is a hardware issue
Can you start in safe mode?

Yes if it boots normally and then i can go safe mode too.
Just so you know, I'm running out of ideas. Can you try the other suggestion that I mentioned above?
The one where I suggested flashing through Odin again?
I'm kind of assuming that USB Debugging and OEM Unlock were turned on as well.

Ikes! Are you able to try and downgrade to your original stock firmware? Seems like the issues began with trying to update.
where can I download original stock firmware from the internet? Can you provide me the link kindly? Last time I used Frija (desktop app) to download firmware.
Pretty much everyone on xda (including me) uses this website for firmware: https://www.sammobile.com
You have to create a free account but it's worth it for all the firmware they have available.
I believe you already know this, but I'm just going to cover the bases anyway, make sure to download firmware for your specific model G930T.
