Smart lock - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have it setup and have my house as a trusted location but it keeps asking for my pattern. Anyone else having the same issue?

It woks most of the time in my home, but not all the time...
Make sure you don't have any apps setup to turn the screen off, IE I used to have tasker setup to turn screen off when i set it on wireless charger, but was actually locking the device each time. I've heard others mention the same thing with other apps. So Rule that out first. Otherwise it is not 100% unfortunately.

Also something wise I just found out while experimenting is that of you are device only for gps it never works either.

Basically it is face unlock. Wait for a few seconds and you should see the lock become unlocked at the bottom

I use high accuracy....yes I waited like 30 seconds and nothing......oh well I am putting it to 30 minutes because I hate using a lock to be honest. I moved to Medellin from the states and girls whatsapp me every 5 seconds. I don't have time to unlocked that much lol

Its face unlock that sucks. Face unlock on KK you just point the device and if its good, it goes straight to your home screen. No swipes, no hands.
This version always takes a swipe even if successful and as you can see yourself, you cant direct the camera.
Talk about fixing something that isnt broken google! :crying::crying::crying:

It depends on your usage. On KK, when glancing on my phone when changing the music track with lock screen controls often unlocked my phone accidentally, so I needed to lock again. Now on Lolipop, I can change tracks without worrying to unlock.

Yes, if you are listening to music all of the time when using your phone I take your point.
I'm not against what they have done in Lollipop, I'm against the lack of choice.

Bypass lock screen?

I just read in a review that if the phone is locked and you press the camera button, you still have to enter your passcode/pattern. Have any ROMs/DEVs gotten around this?
I hate that....I would like to know this too.
Not true it still asked for password.

Huh? That is the problem!
Well, you can set the lock screen to lock after 15 minutes of inactivity, thus disabling the security password for 15 minutes. If you use your phone often then it'll probably never lock, and you'll be able to jump straight to the camera... Or you could just disable the password for now
its supposed to do that. Why have a password on the phone then, If someone can bypass it?

My quess is that he wants to disable the lock screen just for the camera app so that you can take a picture fast.
yes that is why....you can bypass the lockscreen only to take a picture, not for anything else....not much danger could come of someone being able to take a picture with your phone, only if they could access the other parts of it.

[Q] How to disable the power button on the lock screen

Just as the title says, I find somewhat pointless that I can simply switch off my phone even if it's locked. I didn't have this problem with my M7, any way to change this?
My phone is rooted if that makes any difference.
I don't believe that you can do this in the stock rom. In some custom roms it is built in. If you wish to stay on stock or a ROM without this feature,

I believe that they want to do this for security purposes so if their phone was stolen they can't turn their device off.
It's useless, holding the power button 5-10 secs will also switch the device off.

On my M7 it would restart it so it wouldn't be useless, if I had the same option.

Too bad, if it was OPO it turned off.
I'm currently using this app on my OPO and so far it works
Smart Lockscreen protector
Sorry but I'm new here so I can't post any links, just search for it in Google Play store

Although I think it's useless, cause you cannot disable the hold 5-10 seconds feature. But I see this option in the Xposed Module called GravityBox.
I have an OPO rooted. I tried this app to block power button so it only avoid to call the power menu but I'm still able to turn device off holding power button for 5 seconds. Looking for an app that really block my phone to be turned off.

[Q] Prevent phone from automatically unlock after accepting incoming call?

Hi guys,
I've recently realised that after I receive a phone call, the phone automatically gets unlocked after the call has ended.
Is there any setting to prevent this?
I am so used to stuffing the phone back into my pocket and do not wish to inadvertently butt dial someone or launch apps while the phone is sitting unlocked in my pocket.
Hope you guys can help on this.
i dont know what kind a security lock you have, if its a pin it shouldn't, thinking about this, im sure i have to put my pin code to access the phone during and after a call otherwise this would be a security loophole.

Slide to unlock is pretty useless without security. It even let's you use the notification area so I doubt it would fully prevent pocket dialling.
Anyway, doesn't surprise me.

Umm, yes I know that it doesn't offer much security but I don't want to punch in a password or use the camera security each time I want to access my phone.
The lock screen doesn't automatically lock after a call without security. Power button to turn off the screen does. So after a call, turn off the screen.

Swipe/knock to turn on

I will be getting a note edge and currently my wife has a LG g3 and I love the knock knock feature to turn it on. Does anybody know if the note edge has a similar feature to knock or swipe the side edge screen to turn it on? If not I plan on developing an app to accomplish that, if the sdk allows.

I tried but nothing worked. Then again there may be a particular way the swipe gesture works?? I can tell you that the edge screen wakes up if you just rub it right to left.
Thx. I am going to see about building some functionality for that.
Great!
Wish I could develop apps for the edge screen...
I am able to develop 3D live wallpaper using Unity but cant get head around coding.

Wouldn't the screen have to be kept on ?! I don't mean physically on but wouldn't a layer of the screen have to be on because so it can register input whilst the screen is off ?!

I was trying to say wouldn't it be a drain on battery life but it just occured to me that every phone has a similar set up.

yea it does but probably not enough to matter.
Its a standby mode. Any phone that uses knock to wake, swipe to wake, voice etc... will have the sensors in stand by.

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised that this kind of app isn't already out. OEMs have released this feature with some of their flagships but why isnt it more mainstream.

Hope you don't have to wait very long. ☺
I would say this regarding battery drain... I have not rooted my wife's G3 and she uses the knock knock feature roughly 100 times per day lets say on average. Her battery has never been less than 45% with super heavy usage. Usually around 73% by the time she gets home at 5:15.
She plays games, Keeps the brightness on 90% (no auto), checks emails/texts/IM a bunch, pinterest, facebook, keeps the gps on, bluetooth off. So I would say it doesn't drain the battery enough to complain about if barely at all. Now, maybe LG built this feature into the firmware or something i don't know about, where it doesn't need the screen and maybe it uses one of the ICs that detect vibration or something.

What are you looking forward to..

On the 6.0 update?
For me...
1. Faster fingerprint reader/unlock animation
2. New keyboard layout
3. Finally having an option to switch to pin code for alternative option if fingerprint isnt working
4. Adjustments on touchwiz
5. Google now on tap
6. New emojis
7.Faster phone ?? (hopefully)
Is speed an issue? My Note5 is smooth and quick. *shrug* Now on Tap is actually pretty cool. I don't use a protective lock screen so I don't know about that. I'd like to be able to activate Samsung Pay with a swipe up from the S-View window, but that won't happen.

Speed is definitely not an issue lol, but there are somethings that need a speed improvement.. such as the fingerprint reader. I just hope i dont see any lag. Im assuming you use Find my mobile? if you dont use a protective lock screen. And i dont use samsung pay or NFC payment for that matter, but i understand your struggle haha.
I could root my device, but i choose not to. Reason being is it will possibly lose value once Knox has been tripped.

I do use Find my Mobile but I also use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity to lock certain apps. It only locks those apps when I am not connected to my WiFi or my cars Bluetooth. Maybe with the new fingerprint API I'll lock the whole phone up.
I also noticed when watching marshmallow beta for s6/s6 edge is that the capacitive buttons dont light up when touching the screen... which is a smart move from samsung. It saves battery and it makes sense. It only lights up when pressing them or when pressing the home button.

Actually it makes no sense, whatsoever. The entire point of the capacitive buttons lighting up when you touch the screen is so you can see them in the dark in order to press them.. lighting up when you touch them makes zero sense, why would I need them to do THAT?

It only takes about an hour to learn which is which... Its unecessary for the lights to turn on everytime you touch the screen, its just pointless.

They didn't light up because it was a Beta and the rooted kernel broke it even more on some devices, but made them work better on other devices. There's also mods you can use to just turn them off if you don't like them. Xposed. Or just go into the settings!!!
Also, just because you don't like them being on, doesn't mean that they are pointless. Tests have also been done to see just how much battery life is affected by Capacitive buttons and you can't even tell how much they use.
By the way, a lot of people like myself, work in dark places and have to use our phones. Think about that for a minute.:good:
The only thing I'm looking forward to is a phone that doesn't get an update and have it cause the phone to be worse than before. Right now my stock Note 5 works just fine.
