[Bug Report] after update player can't see MicroSD card - MX Player

My device is an Acer Iconia a700 running Android 4.1 stock and unrooted.
Yesterday MX player happily played my media files.
Today after an update of both player and codec to the most recent version it plays nothing.
The folder list is bare and empty except for ringtones and notifications.
The folder list includes /Removable (which is where all my media is kept because the onboard storage is full of boring work stuff)
But I have no video or audio available.
The card is mounted OK
I can see the files using the file manager and long-press and play with MX
But surely I should be able to expect the same behaviour as before this KitKat update ?

I've refreshed quite a few times
- the folders/files on the card remain invisible.
I'll have a go at uploading a log when I've looked for alternative players.
This one was OK but I don't have time to fiddle around with it for too long to get it to work.

I can confirm this issue
Hi,
I can confirm this issue on my daughters Tesco Hudl also. The hudl is running android 4.2.2. Up to yesterday it was working perfectly all year long with mx player to play all her kids tv shows. However after the update which downloaded to the tablet yesterday, none of the content on the microsd is detected in the mx player. I have tried manually adding it but to no avail. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling to rule out the possibility of a corrupted update but still no luck. I am attaching the bug report here. Hopefully this can be resolved quickly since she uses it everyday.
Thanks,
Barry.

I have managed to get to the bottom of this issue on my device. The issue was in the new update of mx player. I uninstalled and re-installed and started with a fresh version to make sure I was getting an accurate representation of the problem. When I navigated to the settings regarding the folders included in the search, there were two listings active. The main local path and also another one "/removable". However when I checked the path of my microsd on the Hudl, the card is mounted as "/mnt/[sdcard or external, I dont have the device to hand right now to check the exact path name but it is in the mnt path]/". So the issue in this new version seems to have been that it did not automatically include/add the sdcard path to the listings in mx player. I had to manually search for the path and then add it. After this a refresh showed all my media. Perhaps the new version removed some default paths etc, since the old version automatically detected the sdcard everytime. Either way I hope this information helps someone else. Sorry I don't have the exact path to hand, but you get the idea anyway. Mx player is a top notch product and I am delighted it works well for my daughter again.
All the best,
Barry.

The new logic was introduced in 1.7.32
If your primary sdcard (it may be internal or external) is mounted under /mnt/ then mx player will list /mnt/, if primary sdcard is mounted under /storage/emulated/ it will list /storage
It looks like your primary card is mounted under /storage & secondary card is mounted under /mnt
Even in this case, most of the vendors leave symbolic links.
The main issue is that, android doesn't use any standard for external Sd mount points. There is no api to determine the mount point too.

Thanks for the reply. The card with the content in question(the physical microsd that I put in and out of the slot) is definitely mounted under /mnt/. You are correct the initial paths shown were /storage/ and /removable/. I had to manually add the /mnt/ one in the new version. Just out of curiosity, is the new logic the root of the issue for me? Before the update at the weekend the previous version detected the microsd immediately when it was inserted and then refreshed but the new one would not until the /mnt/ path was added manually.
Cheers,
Barry.

If you have device with you, can you send the mount point list. If you don't know how to do, install fx explorer. From the options open file systems.
Can you post the screenshots (especially user storage area)
It will be helpful to diagnosis

Thanks.
There is no need of mx player screenshot.
Just take the screenshot of fx explore home & File systems (from options).
I think it will be enough.

[Q] guaranteed library from micro sd card solution

My problems started today when the music and video apps stopped showing anything from sd card.
Then I got 176 songs from a total of over 1000....
I already gave up on pictures but I at least thought videos and music would always work.
And I took this tablet with me to Korea so stuck with it for the foreseeable future.
I am confused, what is your question -.,-?

Anyone else having this problem?
What happens if you double-click one of the missing songs using Windows Explorer? It should play then.
It's possible that the app's library database got messed up somehow (perhaps the card lost connection while the app was running?) and needs to rebuild, which takes some time.
Hi, you might want to try this: http://www.teamradicus.com/post/Surface-and-SD-Card.aspx I had similar problems when I had my SD card mounted to a C:\SD folder (I was seeing files that do not exist and not seeing new files and applications crashed when I clicked at those non-existing files) and this helped me to resolve that issue.
Yeah, I started going song by song and got some more back that way.
Playlists never recovered.

[Q] Android can't see extSD media files all of a sudden!

Before I start, I was unsure where to put this thread, anyway as it wasn't an individual phone problem, I decided to put it in the general problem.
Also I have researched this problem - so I'm not wasting your time by reading this thread.
Anyway, all of a sudden my media files aren't seen on the music player or the gallery, there are pictures on there and music. I can use a File explorer and I can see all of it, just I can't see them in the music players or load them. ITS SO ANNOYING. Apparently its got to do with some .nomedia ROM manager problem, I've formated my card and put a few pictures on it, STILL NO LUCK?. After this, i re-flashed it, still same problem.
The music player detects nothing
the gallery either detects nothing OR says there is not enough space on your sd card. (well theres 3gb of space).
Thanks.
EDIT: OTHER MUSIC APPS CAN'T SEE MY MUSIC EITHER!!!
EDIT2: THE INTERNAL SD CARD MEDIA ISN'T AVAILABLE EITHER?!?
Just search,
/Emmc
Or
/mmc
On the root of your sd.
That will contain all of your data.

FIXED! Thanks for responding dude,
anyway this is how I fixed it - I hope this helps someone:
The first problem was ROM manager - it put these .nomedia things on your sd cards (ex and internal), this mean't you couldn't see any media on your phone - ( which obviously meant nothing came up in gallery or music) - I followed this guide to get rid of the issue (well done Dragn4rce for making the simple guide)

[bug] Resume last played media button is missing

Resume last played media button is missing if last played video is from /storage/sdcard1/... folder. Completed videos aren't marked too. (Didn't checked another folders)
It is on its place even if last played media file is same but has another path because of different device mount point (/mnt/ext_sdcard/...)
(Just playing with filtering scanning folders)
OS is Android 4.2.2, PacMan Rom
Device is Huawei U9508
Here's a bug demostration:
I think MX Player is path specific. I'd recommend changing your defined video folders in your MX settings, so that it only checks 1 mount path of your SD card.
I know that it's solution to change video folders
But why it does work for some folders and for some folders it doesn't?
For example, it does appear for "/mnt/sdcard1/Anime/GTO/GTO - 01.avi", but doesn't for "/storage/ext_sdcard/Anime/GTO/GTO - 01.avi".
...while it's more likely to user select the /storage/... folder in settings, because when you open folder selection dialog, opened path is /storage/emulated/0/

I do know how to fix it, but some others don't.
It think, it's a bug, when you shouldn't select some folders to get this button appear.
Here goes a bug demonstration (screencast):

Yes, I can reproduce the problem.
In my case my external sd card is mounted in /storage/extSdCard. One more location is exists on /mnt/extSdCard which is actually a link not a mount point. But, real path of the file will be /storage/extSdCard/*
When MX Player scans, it saves the real path to avoid file duplicate file listing.
when you set to scan only /mnt/extSdCard on video folders it will list file. But the file state is saved with the real path. Since it's outside of folder to be scanned it will be ignored & resume button will be hidden. As you add /storage/extSdCard to the list resume button will back.
It's because of lack of standardisation in mount point & unnecessary link of mount points across OEMs.
So, you have to be careful when selecting folders.
There are some workarounds that can fix the issue. I will discuss it with the developer. If you have any suggestions, it's highly appreciable.
I have attached the logs collected with mx log collector.

About suggestions...
For example, QuickPic doesn't show these links in Explorer mode (there is only "emulated" folder in /storage/), but it may produce some troubles for users, I think.

[Q] Best camera app for recording videos

Hello.
I've been looking recently for one, good camera app, For shooting videos. And Im posting this thread here to ask for an advice /suggestions.
What I am looking for :
-I want to record videos directly to the specified directory. I want to store all videos on my mounted USB drive to my Nexus (most apps dont support it) MOST IMPORTANT!
-I want to record 1080p with the Best quality and framerate possible
-Good focus and manual adjustments, such as white balance.
-App can be either paid or free.
I am running newest CyanogenMod updated every day. If an app will require some custom system mods, thats not a big deal.

Maybe Snap Camera HDR or L Camera can do the job
Omg, I really love the L camera, but wish I could change the save directory... Maybe there is a possibility to change it in the source and the compile it? Idk how to do it
Snap Camera is also awesome, plenty of options there, but I cant make it to work with my USB drive, It says that it is not connected...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam
Allright, as I noticed, many great apps have some issues with saving to custom directories in Android L, I tried using many apps that allowed me to change the save location, but still, even If I choose any other location that the default one, it shows a message saying something like "save directory change is not avilable in Android 5" or something like this, or it just wont save where I want.
Any fix for that?
BTW I tried some camera apps, and Cinema FV-5 wins so far
then maybe you can try mount your OTG hdd to DCIM folder ?

How can I do so? I tried using Stickmount, but It kept saying, that mounting services are currently busy.
maybe you can try symbolic links in stickmount :
Code:
(Pro) Create symbolic links
Create symbolic links in /mnt and /storage to the actual mounts in /sdcard/usbStorage/, handy with some file managers and some apps that auto-detect storage locations.
The problem is that stickmount does not want to work. Whenever I try to mount, it says that mounting services are busy, so I cant even use it.
So your hdd isn't mounted at all ? Then of course you can't write to it
Is is mounted, but it works just without the app, I can browse all my files on my OTG, delete, create, rename, read without any problems, and the OTG is mounted by system by itself, as it works in Lolipop without any 3rd party apps, but its in the directory root/storage/usbdisk.
And this directory is visible to all camera apps, but I cant make it to write files there. It says that this location is unwritable, or something other, as I said in one of my older posts there. My OTG cable is also fine, the OTG is fine aswell, so the problem imo is that camera apps dosent have permissions to access this directory.
So your disk is mounted as read only. NTFS file system maybe ?

Nope, its FAT32.
Also, I can write things there via Root Explorer.
And the permissions are rwxrwx--x

MX Player does not find files on sd card

I have installed the free MX Player 1.26.7 on my HUAWEI P30 lite running on EMUI 10.0.
The player only finds files in the internal memory.
Alhough I can choose the SD card folders in "Folders" the files on the SD card are not shown.
"Recognize .nomedia" is unckecked.
"Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
VLC Player and HUAWEI stock player work normally and play files from the SD card..
Any clue what is wrong here?
