Alright, so my NS4G the power button randomly stopped working the other day, I want to go to Sprint since I pay the device protection thing so I can get a new phone. But the other problem is that it's rooted and all of that good junk....... but I can't mount my phone to my computer... Anyone have any ideas? No clue on how to get into CWM without my power button..
Reboot into recovery from ROM manager.

From ROM Manager you can reboot to recovery at a touch of a button. And depending on which recovery you have you can either use the touchscreen or the softkeys to navigate and select. The search key is the same thing as the power button in recovery.
Oh............................................................................................... I have I think CWM 5.0.2.0? Or something like that.
I also don't know how to flash back to stock. I can't find any flashables. My USB doesn't work even in CWM.

You can use back key for back, menu key to scroll down, search key for selection, home for scroll up then.
So yeah, from ROM Manager, hit reboot into recovery.
Edit: Are you mounting the SD from within CWM?
I can't mount my phone to my computer at all.... Even through CWM. I've tried to post on XDA about it and everyone told me a few things to try and none worked.

Transfer all the stuff you need over WiFi then with a program such as Airdroid when you're booted. Then reboot to recovery and do what you need.
You can't really lock back your phone if your USB is broken though...
I already have all my pictures and stuff backed up on Dropbox since it's what I've been having to use for like months without USB storage. Do you think I'll have to pay for a new phone? I get my upgrade in October. X_X

No.
I simply believe you're having a hard time connecting it to USB, but they don't die that easily. Sadly, most of the time it's a user error there.
As I said, you can transfer stock 4.0.3 rom onto your phone via a software such as Airdroid. Then you reboot in recovery, wipe everything but the SD card, flash stock 4.0.3, reboot.
You would still need to connect via USB to relock your phone though, ideally.
I mean storage has been gone on my phone for months lol. I'd say it stopped working like 4-5 months after I got it. I've tried like 5-6 different USB cables. It would stop working, than one day randomly work for like 5 minutes than stop. Like, when I connect it to my computer it charges, but nothing prompts.

That seems like the usb port. Storage and adb are different but they obviously both use the usb port. Nevertheless, return to stock except for locking the bootloader and bring it back and cross your fingers. Many places will fix it without asking much, even of it's unlocked as long as it's stock rom.
I got a stock image or whatever from this site..

But, will it work as a flashable?

Those have to be flashed via fastboot/adb.
You can use one of the downloads available at Peter Alfonso. It's stock, odexed rom + root.
http://wonderly.com/bb/CRESPO4G/OEM/pete_crespo4g_ota_IMM76D_odexed.zip
Don't forget you have a Crespo4G, for Sprint, so you cannot use stuff meant for T-Mobile or AT&T. Sadly the 4G community being smaller, the full ROM package is hard to find, only OTA updated being available. This is the closest I could find.
Thanks a bunch! I just had a buddy of mine come down and he gave me a normal phone to use until like some odd day next week and he's just gonna get it swapped out for something new. He said the nexus is beyond on backorder.
Hi all!
I have a nexus s which suffered from a power button failure. Took it to Samsung London Angel Islington and they didn't do anything! Charged me to get my phone back, its a long story. I would like to install CWM - the phone is fastboot unlocked and has stock 4.1.2 - I flashed the latest factory image before sending it back to samsung. I have tried several different methods of root.
All the methods I have tried require USB connectivity via fastboot. I try to fastboot flash the CWM image but the phone won't connect through USB. I think the problem is due to the faulty power button. ADB will connect when the phone is powered on.
Any other alternative methods that I haven't tried?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you
Well since it is fastboot unlocked (I hope you mean boot loader unlocked) you can probably install superuser and then ROM Manager and through ROM manager CWM.
Mind you because you have a broken power button you'll need to buy the CWM touch or else CWM isn't going to do you any good( the non touch version I mean)
Hope I helped

Wrong and wrong.
He has fastboot unlocked, but he isn't rooted. He won't be able to install superuser then ROM Manager.
He doesn't need CWM touch either because his power button is broken, because you can scroll down with the menu softkey and up with the home key, and select with the search key on the non touch version (also works in the touch version). No need to spend on ROM manager, they also offer the touch version for free if you flash it manually.
Although it is fastboot unlocked, without a way to fastboot a custom recovery, you're SOL. Some people had luck unsticking their broken power button by blowing compressed air, others by taking the phone apart and cleaning it. If you get it to a semi reliable state, or at least working once so you can boot to fastboot you'll be able to flash a recovery.
Hmm... Without the USB he can't even fastboot.
The USB problem. Even I have it. Try to keep the USB connected for like 5-10 minutes. Usually detects after that. I don't know what's the problem. I don't care enough to find out.

Hi All,
Just got hold of a pretty good condition Nexus S for my Work/ Second phone, and its a dam nice phone. My daily is an N4.
I have read many threads, tried many tips and even ended up rooting and running CM10.1.
I much prefer stock android, so its now on 4.1.2.
Unless I am being an utter nob, and missing the obvious, I cannot get into my Stock Recovery. It seems like its missing.
I have tried Vol+ & power. Vol- to recovery. I get the Android Red Triangle.
I have tried then pressing Vol+ or Vol- or a combination.
I must be doing something wrong.
Any advice would be great.

Just use Nexus root tool kit and put in a custom recovery.. You can use to flash completely to stock, which should restore the stock recovery, but the custom is better and more reliable for flashing..
Thanks for the very quick reply Setting.Out.
I have used the root kit. I used it to root and install a custom recovery.
I used it to return to stock rom too, but still cannot show the stock recovery.
I have seen youtube vids where the red triangle shows and you need to use Vol+ to access your stock recovery, but no luck for me.
Is it possible its missing.
I bought it and prior to buying it was running a custom rom. I asked the owner to return it to stock for me.
I have rooted and got my hands dirty with phones for years and this is just bugging me :silly:

Its working now.

Thanks and I now wish I hadn't bothered opening this thread, but it may be of some help to others one day.

Thanks Chill for the post, it has been useful, just have a question, need to copy some files off the phone from recovery but i get the andriod figure lying down with a red exclamation mark. My Nexus S(stock) keeps rebooting before it gets to showing the home screen. Read from other posts that if i can get to recovery, plug cable into PC then i can copy files. If i re-flash recovery with stock recovery, will i lose my data files?

You don't lose data if you flash a recovery. As a matter of fact, any recovery.

Thanks smit sanghavi, I did finally figured out how to get into the menu of recovery(stock), once you see the green android lying down with red exclamation mark, hold power then click up volume. However unfortunately i might have run out of luck, i couldn't re-flash the stock recovery, because the error says bootloader is locked. As per details in other posts, when i unlock the bootloader, it will wipe all files. Even when im at the recovery menu, windows won't detect the Nexus S when i plug into USB... so unless there is another way to get adb running, then all my files are lost...

Hi. i have Nexus 5 sim free version. it was on 4.4 later upgraded to 4.4.1 followed by 4.4.2. till 4.4.2, it was great. a day before yesterday i received 4.4.3 OTA update and installed it. after installation,
1- phone started to hang a lot.
2- unless i push power button and re press it, phone remains hanged.
3- i tried flashing 4.4.2 but it stucks at boot loader screen as well and certainly i can't use power button to un freeze it.
4- phone starts well sometimes but there is no display but only colorful dots instead of screen, if i press and re press power button, start screen comes back.
plz help me to find a way so i can flash back some earlier android version.
thanks

flash the factory img http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701
and what do you mean sim free nexus 5? all nexus 5 have a sim card slot.
Flash the 4.4.3 factory image and give it another try. If it still has problems just flash an earlier factory image. And if it still doesn't work you have a hardware issue

OK but you Flash the images whilst in the bootloader mode. What does a frozen bootloader look like? What was the output error message when you used fastboot to flash the factory image?

i have unlocked bootloader after couple of tries because phone kept on freezing even in bootloader mode. but as soon as i put phone in bootloader mode, it freezes. everything was fine before 4.4.3 OTA update. phone shouldn't freeze in bootloader mode. i think that 4.4.3 update has also corrupted recovery.

Try and boot into your "backup" bootloader. You can get into this by holding Volume Down AND Volume Up AND Power. You'll notice it is different bootloader because the bootloader version is different from the one you get if you just hold volume down and power.
Maybe that will work?

I need some help, I'm a total noob at all this stuff. So basically, all what I wanted to do is root my phone. So I unlocked bootloader, installed twrp, had super user and everything but while I was on the twrp menu rather than hitting the install button I hit the wipe button then accidentally (really) confirmed wiping. Now my phone is completely wiped no OS nor data, at least it boots up but the booting up loading screen stays there forever. I can also get into the bootloader screen but for some reason when I try to install twrp again it doesn't install, there's like that small green bar at the top right of the bootloader screen it only does half way 50% and never increases. I'm really hopeless, lol. Please help, what should I do? How to install HTC's One mini OS from scratch without having any problems?

Did that too with my HTC One M7UL once upon a time. You can push files to your device, when it's in fastboot, via adb fastboot. So push a system/zip to your device and flash it in TWRP, when you get there. As long as you can do adb in fastboot, there's hope for you!
Good luck
Thanks for your reply.
Do you by any chance know where to get HTC One Mini's system zip?
Hello, put your phone out by holding the powerbutton till it is really out.
Then hold volume up and the powerbutton, this will get you to TWRP.
Now you can use ADB sideload to push a rom to your phone by using adb.

It's a good idea to update the drivers for the phone, if you don't already have that. Btw, that's the HTC syncing program. Try the command: adb devices. That will show connected devices.
