Official S-View Flip Cover Versions and metal contacts on the back - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

After some research I found out there are 2 version of this case: one supports Qi Wireless Charging and the other doesn't. Here are the links:
EF-CN910BCESTA
EP-VN910IBUSTA
My question is related to the number of metal contacts on the back. The original back cover that comes with the phone doesn't have any, so I am trying to understand why are there 2 sets on the back of the Qi enabled case?
One set is for Wireless Charging, but what is the other for?
Or on the cheaper case without wireless charging - it only got 1 set of contact points. What are these for?
Thank you.

It is for the sleep function when you close the case.

I believe it is for when you close the case cover, it activates the portion of the screen that you can see through the s-view.

Case Compatable with Samsung Qi Charging Back?

I ordered the Samsung back with the built in Qi charger. Before the vendor let me order it, they emailed me the following:
Please note that using this back cover will slightly change the dimension/ size of the phone and any case you may have on your Note 4 will no longer fit the device. Unfortunately, we do not have cases that are compatible with this battery charging back.

You might be able to stretch some TPU cases and force them on, but at this time there aren't any cases made to specifically fit with the OEM wireless charging back.
It took several months for the Galaxy S5 to get any cases specifically made for the wireless charging back, so I'm not anticipating one for the Note 4 in the near future. I'd love to see a manufacturer step up though. Diztronic did with the S5, but they have yet to even release a standard case for the Note 4.

My friends have similar receiver stickers in their Samsung phones (Note 3, 2x S5s) and the sticker interferes with NFC, they were unable to use Android Beam or Softcard/Google Wallet until they removed the sticker (those features worked intermittently).
For this reason, I'll personally wait until a case that fits the official Samsung wireless charging cover comes out.

I wonder if it's thin enough to not bulge the back cover. Bulged covers look so ugly.

Amazon now has this sticker in stock with Prime shipping: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I had it shipped overnight ($3.99 with Prime) and got it this morning. Here's what I found:
1. It's not 0.6mm, but 1.5mm thick (I measured it with a caliper). It bulges the battery cover in an ugly way. My Spigen case does not fit properly anymore.
2. It charges much more slowly than the official Samsung wireless charging back, which I also have (tested with a Tylt Vu desktop charger).
3. It makes battery swapping impossible as it has to be attached to the battery.
4. No "NFC support." Even though it has five pins, only two of them (second from top and the upper single one) are actually connected to the circuit, I checked with a multimeter. There is only a single coil/antenna, so there is definitely no "NFC support" of any kind, unlike the official Samsung cover which actually has two coils/antennas - one for charging and a second for NFC, since the original NFC antenna in the battery is blocked by the Qi antenna.
Sending it back, it's crap.

Mine arrived from China today. Seems like a different item than you got. Very little if any bulge. Case fits fine. NFC working fine. Phone gets surprisingly warm during charging. No problem connecting to my iAnker charging pads. Too soon to comment on charging speed. It doesn't exactly match the picture, doesn't have the indicated contacts for sview sleep function.
I'll get a picture and try to find my calipers in a bit.

I think the relative positions of the receiver and the coil have something to do with heat issues. I also have a sticker from China. I noticed that charging the phone on Tylt Vu keeps the battery hot all night (this can't be good for longevity). But, if I set the phone upside down, it only heats up during actual charging. Itian charger also stops heating after the phone reaches 100.

Note Edge Flip Wallet Qi Wireless Charging (DIY)

i cant post any link here as im a new user but you can go to youtube and search "Note Edge Flip Wallet Qi Wireless Charging (DIY)" to check it out
i cracked open the original samsung qi wireless back and attach the qi receiver to the flip wallet back, anyone is interested in more details please let me know
Guide?
I would love if you could go over the steps on how you integrated the receiver into the flip cover. In the video I see the flip wallet clock still works since it's tied to the magnet in the cover, not the back cover contacts (got creative with the Gear Circle to test this). Does NFC work correctly?
Also curious of NFC works.

Very interested in this answer. Would be a good dolar savings to reuse the innards and would be a great combo with the leather case (like the video.).
Steps and pic if possible?
sorry guys I've been busy past few days couldn't reply earlier. for your questions:
1. NFC works perfectly
2. Require the original note edge qi receiver (from the original case as there is no 3rd party qi receiver out there yet) as you can see below the qi receiver connectors need to match the phone's terminals (i.e. the L shaped below the sd card slot and the one above the battery
and regarding steps, unfortunately i did not take video or pix while cracking open the original case and attaching to the flip wallet but i''ll try my best to explain here
1. this is how the original case looks like (pic1)
2. use a knife to start cracking the 4 corners then sides of the plastic piece in the middle which has the qi receiver attached underneath and this is how it looks after detaching it from the case (of course the qi receiver should be there too but mine is already glued to my flip wallet now) (pic2)
3. you should fine the qi receiver is glued to the plastic piece (the left one in pic2) but can be removed easily (with care also!) by hand
4. on the flip wallet you should see a chip attached to it (pic3) please make sure that is removed before attaching the qi receiver on it as one of the qi connectors is at the same spot so without removing the chip on the flip wallet you can't attach your phone properly to the wallet
5. after removing the chip, place the qi receiver on the flip wallet at the same positions as where the connectors should be touching the phone's terminals (pic4)
6. DONE!
NFC works, wireless charging works and edge panel responds to the flip wallet cover! do it at your own risk but it is pretty straight forward!
ENJOY!

that is correct, note 4 has different terminals than note edge. and for your information, i have checked with 2 companies which manufactures 3rd party qi receivers for samsung phones both said they do not have plan yet on making one for edge (guess from profit perspective edge is a limited production phone) and that is why i went ahead to DIY one using the original note edge qi case

From the pictures it looks like he used a type of frabic tape.
I'm sure he will chime in with that he did.
I thought about doing this from the start , I don't like the thickness of the charging backs. So I was going to rip the guts out and put in on the OEM back.
But that's alot of money just to rip it apart.
I had the thin small pad for my Note 3 and it only cost about $10. So I think I'll wait on the note edge buntil they get the thin pads aslo.
My qi case came in and I did the mod for the wallet case.
It works perfectly! Thanks OP!

Just to be clear this mod was done from an Edge Qi back cover to a waller case back cover. Im guessing to avoid the extra thickness added by the Qi backing.
Can this be done to the original backing that comes with the note edge so that I can have Qi with the simple backing and no extra thickness

Yep that works, I have done that for one of my friends who complained the qi cover is too thick
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEuXId2WV9w
This could be a quick and easy way to do this whole mod but I think I want to keep the ability to use the usb port in case I need quickcharge or use the port for mass storage.
Also does anyone know what amperage the OEM case allow. Cause I saw that Samsung official Qi chargers are 2amp but most only deliver 1amp from what i know.
On bottom L sharp pins; pin of inside is + 5v and pin of out side is ground. you can mod samsung s5 wireless charger receiver to install. (pin of wireless charger receiver s5 is opposite compare to note edge). so i trip off plastic cover of receiver and pull up pcb sidedown to made compatible pins .
Cons: due to wireless receiver is 1.0 compatible=used ic bq5101xx = max 1000ma.
note edge can handle 1700 ma so receiver get hot;
Solutions: used usb charger under 1000ma or connect 2 wireless receiver in parallel way. (1 up and 1 down; coils are center and symmetric).

[Q] Dumb Blonde Question

When through laughing, would someone please tell me exactly how to line up the qi receiver onto the battery? Mine finally arrived and am not certain which direction it should go and also onto which contacts it should be placed. The pic on the peel-away paper shows the tab facing right (when looking with the back off), but the contacts I see are to the *left* of the battery, in the shape of an "L". (0ver where I placed my micro card). Am I confusing different types of contacts? Cannot find a video for Edge and understand it looks different than Note4.
Advice greatly!!!! appreciated!
Thanks,
qi addict
Yes it is those 'L' shaped contacts. Just line it up so it the cutout area of the sticker covers the two bottom contacts when you are looking at the back of the phone with the camera to the top. And make sure the QI sticker is definitely for the Edge. It will stick to the battery and cover the sim card slot when installed correctly
Sounds like a Plan

Great. Will try it out and see. The qi sticker came off Amazon from who-knows-where. It was specifically packaged for the Edge but who knows for sure? It's that inexpensive black Qi charger/receiver combo being sold by several outfits. Whoever did the translation to English on the box did a *horrible* job - sort of looks like a joke, but the parts were nicely packed and protected and the charger plate is taking a charge, indicator light on, etc.
Appreciate ,your response, thanks!!!!!

Sorry about delay in response. I purchased the Qi charger and receiver set through Amaz. from Iclover. Thanks to Millab's confirmation, I installed it. It's been working. As others have stated, it leaves a very slight bulge in back but the Edge flip cover fits anyway. It is taking an average amount of time to charge (obviously wont charge fast like the charger it comes with). No complaints so far. It IS charging through the flip cover.
When traveling around, I am keeping the Edge, in the flip cover inside a second case - the XXXL Sideways Deluxe Suede Holster Case by All_instore, edge side facing the folding edge, to protect the edge panel.

I was faced with the problem as you. I ordered the official Samsung wireless charging back, but it would not fit in my Seidio case. WHich charging coil do you recommend? WOuld it charge at the same rate as the Samsung version? Will I also loose NFC functionality if I did it this way?

This is the one that I'm using:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R3WK2LU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Not sure about the charging rate compared to Samsung. It is Qi standard so I would guess there is little difference. It claims 600mA. It is NOT a quick charge, more like an overnight charge. I have not tested the NFC part but the answered questions say that it is OK.
I have the same problem with my spigen case, now I got a hold of the s charger back. I'm really torn now, as I love the little stand the spigen comes with, but the official samsung back on the s charger pad wide seems to charge in double quick time.
I see the suggested workarounds and might consider them, but still nobody knows of an actual case which fits the note 4 with the wireless back?

I just moved the coil from the Samsung charging back into the regular back, and it's no thicker than it was without the coil, and so any case could continue to fit - whether it will charge through the case is another matter.
any with a 2-3w charge output? 600a would take forever.

Moving the coil to the stock back is really the only way to go. It charges fine and the NFC works.
I went for month trying cases that fit that bulge and even the ones that "fit" threatened to pop off at any moment.

Best wireless (Qi) back for N910?

There don't seem to be any OEM Qi backs left., which is what I wanted. I got an aftermarket one, which is as thin as the stock non-wireless back, but that 1) doesn't fit all that well; there's always a gap at one corner or other, depending on which end I start with when putting it on, and 2) is at least moderately durable.
The one I have is starting to split, 3 months in. It charges fine (800mA at 5VDC, which is better than my Note 3 with OEM charging back)
So... if you are using a wireless charging back, which one are you using, and how do you like it?
BTW, I've been using a number of these wireless charging docks ($10 on amazon) and they're great if you want a spot you can just plonk your phone down and have it charging.
Hello, I'm using this on my phone and it fits and works perfectly.

Here is the back I purchased.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DB89ACG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use it with this charger. I read a lot of reviews that the wireless charging is very slow and someone even said it was more like a toy... For me, the wireless charger easily charges my phone as fast as a 1 amp charger. You do have to have a minimum of a 1 amp wall adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Cha...90870&sr=1-11&keywords=wireless++fast+charger
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I use a rubberized case with my phone, so it is rather thick and have no issues using the charger with it.
I think the charger and back that bishop mentioned are fine. I used similar, but I actually stripped the charging circuit out of the back, removed the black plastic cover and put it into a standard (genuine) Samsung back, which I know fits perfectly. In fact, I bought 2 of these backs and stripped out the charging circuit in both. I put one in a standard back and another in a Samsung S-View cover because the Charging S-View cover from Samsung is no longer available. Now I have the choice of either S-View charging or standard back. charging for when I use the VR headset. BTW, looking at the circuit for the backs I used, it looks like NFC is in there as well.
I bought two different Qi receivers (and used the original back), and I regret it. The first one died after a month or two, and the second one heated up the phone while charging and ruined the battery.
So I broke down and bought Samsung's wireless charging back, and it has been working perfectly.

I also use this back, (sold under the h-ber brand name on amazon) and it works fine. Of course the back does fit a little tight, and sometimes, you have to put it on the bottom (near USB port) first, or the clips don't clip.

I used double sided tape when I did mine - not quite as permanent as glue, just in case it moved before the glue set.
