display the buttons on screen (navbar) - General Questions and Answers

hello everbody
the buttons of my Samsung Galaxy S no longer work and I'm looking for a way to display the buttons on the screen (an app, or a unit Xposed or anything else)
thank you
Light31

It depends on what ROM you are running. Most custom ROMs have a Navigation Bar setting that displays virtual buttons on the screen.

My OPO is running CM11 at well, and I have the nav bar settings... under Settings > Buttons > Enable on-screen nav bar.

You can try this app to enable the navbar or you can follow this tutorial http://www.androidlegend.com/enable-soft-keys-navigation-bar-android-phone-4-0/

Hi NoSpamDan and Arch9, in CyanogenMod settings I can not find this option.
And the application does not seem to work even with root privileges.

Q: Expanded Desktop/Keyboard Issue

So far, everything about the Nexus 5 is fantastic. One minor issue I am running across is related to the popup keyboard. For starters, I am using the GravityBox Pie Controls (always enabled feature). They are great, but the constant softkeys popping up when using any keyboard makes it quite annoying.
I looked on Xposed Framework and did not see any module that rectifies this minor annoyance.
Does anyone know of a way to disable the softkeys completely when using any android keyboard?
Bump as I have yet to find a solution to this problem.

I use gravitybox for expanded desktop + pie and have never had the softkeys pop up when using the keyboard, on either of my phones. Are you using actual expanded desktop or immersive mode with gravitybox?

Expanded desktop. I believe it is set to hide navigation bars. I'll try playing with the settings.

Are you stock on your Moto X?
I suffer this same annoyance (as the OP) with Immerse Me module. The newest Gravity Box mod was to fix this but it breaks Desktoo Mode. Only "hide nav bar" and sem-immersive" mode work. Semi-immersive acts just like hide nav bar as you can't swipe to restore the nav bar.
I just use immerse me for now and deal with the keyboard and volume bug. Running stock root Moto X Dev VZW.

Yeah, stock rooted. Have you tried the App Settings module? It allows you to set immersive mode on a per app basis. Not sure if it will solve your problem but it's worth a shot.

I will try it.
What version of Xposed and GravityBox are you using?
I am using 2.4.1 (xposed) 2.9.4 (GB)
*update* Just tried App Settings and it still suffers from same keyboard and volume issues.

My X is on 2.2 for Xposed and 2.6.3 for GB. I'm still on Jelly Bean on my Moto X.
My N5 is on 2.4.1 for Xposed and 2.8.6 for GB.
What volume issues are you talking about?

[Q] Tasker: How to enable nav bar only when phone rotated 180°?

My phone has both capacitive buttons and a navigation bar. (You can choose between the two using a system setting.) I would like to set up an automatic way to have the buttons turned off (and nav bar enabled) when the phone is held upside down (screen rotated 180°). Then, have the nav bar disabled and buttons turned back on whenever the phone is rotated to any other angle (0°, 90°, 270°).
I'm thinking the app, "Tasker" would be perfect for this, but I haven't been able to figure out a way to set it up. I would be open to other possible ways of achieving the same result.
My device is a "OnePlus One" running Cyanogenmod 11 (so, rooted Kit Kat).
Bumping for great justice
Any luck yet??

Hey!! Any luck yet?? Are you able to figure out how it can be done?? Good thought though.. I am also searching for the same..:good:
There is a GravityBox intent that you can call in Tasker to enable the navbar, but I can't remember what it is for the life of me. The developer, C3C076, could tell you what it is though,
I'm looking into this as well... this would be great!

[Q] Is there a way to "TRULY" disable the "Navigation Bar"?

Greetings!
I know there's a way to put the device always in "Immersive Mode", that way you can hide the Navigation Bar:
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
But every time I swipe from the bottom to any place in the screen, the NavBar appears again (thats really frustrating >_<).
I use LMT Launched (pie), so... I don't need the NavBar to be there.
Is there a real way to truly disable the Navigation Bar???
On some roms, there's a way to do it from inside options (like in Pure Nexus rom for example), I'm currently using RenovateICE, but that option is not implemented yet.
Also, the old trick to disable the NavBar (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) does not work on Android 7+.
Thank you for your time!!! =D
This is something I'd love to see a workaround for. I love the immersive mode feeling but I can't stand that you can't disable the nav bar completely. It hinders your ability to use swipe gestures whenever it comes back on screen and really it just defeats the purpose so I stopped using it for now.
I'll wait for a way to disable the nav bar completely on the stock ROM before I go back to "immersive mode" (if anything of the like ever comes along that is).

Yeah, or for example, when the keyboard pops out, the NavBar appears. D=
I'm pretty sure that there should be a way to do it!!!
Hi,
I was facing the same thing, and decided to take the plunge and root my phone, just for this since I have an exynos version.
From then you can edit the prop build file and remove the navbar permanently.
I use Swipe Gesture (app) to navigate around the phone with every apps full screen, it is a game changer. You can even customise actions (long press launching split screen, ect...)

What line did you added to build.prop???
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 ????
Lilolilo27, if you could elaborate on which parameter(s) you had to change in the build prop I would be forever thankful! I didn't think there would be an easy fix for this so soon!
Hi,
Yes just add the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 line to the end of the build prop file with a root explorer and reboot.
Just for precaution, make a backup of the prop file before hand AND set up Swipe Gesture or any other navigation app BEFORE making the change (or your keys will be gone and you wont be able to navigate around your phone)
Thanks lilolilo27. I'll have to give this a go when I have a few minutes and see how I come up. Thanks for the heads up btw.

WOW, that worked now!!!
I tried this on the S7 Edge and Google Pixel (with android 7+) and I had a bunch of FC's.
I just applied this tweak to my S8+, and it worked smootly!!!
Thank you for the heads up!!! =D
enjoy!
I personally love it, don't see myself using a navigation bar ever again
shame we dont have the same option as windows phone , the swipe up to hide the nav bar , simple but perfect

Don t know if have tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemoGmd gesture app. It is one if the seminal apps that changed how u interact with android. There are many apps for gestures but it is still one of the best. Try it.
Couldnt find the swipe gesture app

Check out this thread, disable nav bar with a layer.

Thanks a lot!!! I'm currently using that mod. '3
anybody try this with the current oreo beta 2? I've had to pull and push the build.prop twice because it seems to break the touchwiz home and won't finish booting

Added it to my build.prop on Oreo b2, and had the same issue. Have you tried the layers solution? I would, but I haven't purchased the Samsung extension and don't really want to until I know it works (my hunch is that it only works on Nougat)
