My TF700 has recently developed erratic touch and screen behavior when docked.
Symptoms: Jumping screen - the image at times bounces around slightly
Phantom touches happen when touching the sceen OR the BACK of the tablet, and less frequently, when not touching the screen, but when holding the tablet where the screen angle may be moving slightly back and forth.
Sometimes, as well, the tablet does not respond to the keyboard. Changing the angle will sometimes remedy that.
It appears that this only happens when docked and may have to do with movement of the angle of the tablet in the dock. The problem seems to go away if I move the tablet/dock angle more vertical AND support it in the back to keep it from moving back and forth.
My unit is too old to be in warranty. At one point one of the plastic clips on the connector broke and I used epoxy to fix it. I also noticed that at one point, pushing the tablet back to too oblique an angle would actually cause the case of the dock to separate slightly.
It might be possible that some of the "phantom" touches that have been reported when a tablet is sitting untouched are due to vibrations in the room (walking etc) causing the tablet to move the docking angle sufficiently, resulting in the issues here.
Any ideas on how to steady the dock/tablet connection?
sounds more like your touch screen is failing, your fault desciption sounds just like mine did before I changed the touch screen and the issue has now gone away

Update- Found a "fix" for now
EDIT: I ended up using self-stick velcro, just the fuzzy side. I put a 2 inch strip behind each hinge. The fit is quite tight, but that is what I was aiming for. Tablet is behaving OK.
I tried using my son's keyboard dock and the problem did no occur. It had considerably less play in it as well. I have temporarily concocted a fix -- I put a strip of material (a thin velcro tie wrap, because it was handy) along the inside back of the dock hinge before inserting the tablet. This tightened the connection sufficiently to keep the strange behavior from happening. Gotta come up with something a little more permanent, though. I'm thinking of trying label tape (like TZe Label Tape) until the thickness is right.

Has anyone else noticed any screen corruption/artifacts occasionally when grabbing/applying pressure on the bezel? It's cyan in color which is kind of amusing because I'm running CM10 but it's kind of annoying to see this kind of problem considering I've had the tablet for about a month. The surest way to reproduce it is to hold opposite corners and kind of gently twist the tablet. I realize that's not exactly common behavior but it does happen occasionally when I'm just holding it. An unfortunate flaw on an otherwise awesome tablet IMO.
Not at all.

Now, after one month of pretty heavy everyday use and some trips (and some drops without producing scratches or chippings) with the Note sometimes some slight sounds (not exactly creaking, more like a faint squeezing sound) occur when I press the upper left corner above the loudspeaker and when I strongly press the silver frame horizontally left and right on the right side.
This might be due to the fact that on the go I hold the tablet sometimes only on the right upper corner.
But no changes on the screen occur even when I forcely try to bend the Note, nor any funny inputs by the digitizer.
Feels rock solid so far .......................
Basically, my phone's screen will occasionally decide to freeze up, usually when I maneuver the sliding screen. When I turn thee screen off and back on, it will show a static looking screen that used to be found on older tvs, except more colorful. A bit of maneuvering the screen around and I can get it to my lock screen, but during the process, I have to turn the screen on and off until it displays.
Before you ask, yes, it's a hardware issue. I used the android bridge and ran logcat, but nowhere did I see any display issues on it. In addition, the phone runs just fine when the screen is wonky, including allowing me to use adb to take and pull screenshots free of any graphical problems and playing audio.
Basically, is it likely that the ribbon is starting to fail, or is it just an issue of the ribbon being loose from it's connector? I'm leaning towards the former considering I've done a couple of NDS ribbon replacements, and those things are pretty comfortably locked in, but I'll be damned if I feel ready to replace the ribbon in this given it's complexity.
Thanks guys. I have it working right now, thankfully.

I started having intermittent issues with mine as well and decided to replace my ribbon and it solved the issue. It wasn't a hard job except for the sticky thick tape inside. That stuff was insane. You need a thin metal tool that is strong and a heat gun (preferably with some way to focus the heat onto a small area - hair dryer wasn't hot enough for me) to make the job much easier. The way I did it I'm amazed my LCD didn't break. That was the only hard part. All the rest of the screw removal and breakdown was pretty easy. You also need the normal phone take-apart plastic tools.
Someone else mentioned the same thing in the mt4gs take-apart thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39502569&postcount=13
In my experience with slider devices, this is pretty much always caused by the ribbon. the friction from sliding eventually wears through some of the traces. it starts with intermittent failure and eventually fails completely.
I bought my tf700t with tf201 dock second hand some 2 months ago. Everything worked perfectly up until 2 weeks ago. The previous owner had the thing rooted (build-number: TF700 CROMi-Xenogenesis 5.2.2-10.6.1.27.5 WW DEODEX). There are lots of people on the internet with the same kind of problems on unrooted tf700's so I don't expect it to be a problem with rooting.
What happens?
- The connection between dock and tablet seems to get lost, found again, get lost again etc. within minutes.
- I have a SD-card fitted in the dock and on the bottom of the screen I get messages that tell me he has found a SD-card. Then apparently it loses it again because a few minutes later the same message pops up again and again etc.
- In the beginning (and according to other people on the web still continuing) the tablet would only recognize the dock when charging. Without being plugged in it wouldn't be recognized at all. I opened up the dock and sprayed some contactspray where the cables come out of the hinge and want to connect to the small cable plugs on the dock, That seems to at least have worked to a certain extent, tablet and dock see each other. It says the keyboard should be used but then most keys won't work nor will the trackpad. Only the top row of keys keep functioning (except only the key in the top left corner (that flips a page backwards). But then again, sometimes you can use the keyboard on the dock for a while and then it's stops again (except for the top row of keys. They always work.)
- If I charge my dock to the max and then connect it with the screen most of the time it tells you that the battery of the dock is drained. Sometimes wiggling te tablet in it's slot brings back the battery to life.
Does anybody have a (possible) solution for these problems? I would be so grateful and so would a bunch of pitiful people roaming the back alleys of the internet in the hope of salvation.
One more thing. Several complainers have swiched dock and tablets and the problem seems to be with tablet. If the tablet is ok, then you fit any keyboard. If the tablet is dodgy it won't connect properly with any dock. At least that's what I hear.
Is there anybody with the brilliant solution or a hint at least? I started writing my bestseller on this thing, but like this it's going back to the study again in stead of to a nice terrace in the sun with drinks available.
Thanks in advance for all your trouble.
It looks like the problem is solved. I took the hinge apart, tightened all screws and bolts and put it back together. That seemed to do it .
Just so people don't have to look any further, here's how you take the hinge apart:
- Take out the 2 bolts on the outside of the hinge.
- On the inside of the hinge, on 'the bottom' are 3 pieces of plastic strip or adhesive tape (one approx. 12 cm long on the left side, one approx. 4 cm on the right side and on very small piece in between of 0.5 cm). Using tweezers and/or a scalpel-like knife, carefully peel away the longest strip of plastic working from the outside inwards. You will find three screws within the first 5 cm or so. Take them out. Stop peeling, leave the plastic strip around the data connector attached and start on the other end of this plastic strip, working from right to left. You'll find a screw immediately. Take it out, leave the rest of the strip attached. The 5th screw you'll find underneath the outer end of the 4 cm strip on the right side of the hinge.
- Now you can split the hinge in 2 parts. If necessary, use a small screwdriver at the outer ends to carefully wedge the hinge apart.
- In the part that's still connected to the dock you'll find 4 screws. The outer 2 have a tendency to become loose. Tightening them 'repaired' my dock.
Do any of you have this issue?
When you tap on the middle upper of the tablet a little bit hard it causes a vibrate clicky loose sound like the components behind are loose?
I only noticed it today and im sure it wasn't like this before or if it was not so prominent.
Im out of my retailers return window so if anything needs to be fixed I'll have to go to samsung.
The device functions ok but im just a little concerned the screenis coming loose or thr digitizer..thevibration clicky sound is quite annoying and i can't remember if it used to be there i think it might as directly behind where it rattles is the camera and above the battery and speakers. I just hear and feel a vibrating rattling sound which annoys me and feels like the build is poor. Can you guys try tapping the middle upper of your tablet quite hard or moderqtely and see if you have same issue?
What do you think has happend screen coming loose?
I think the resistive and conductive layers of the screen have come loose from the hard tapping.
If i hold down the middle of the screen and release it makes a 'sticky' sound. What is likely to happen if this continues?
From reading it says the resistive and conductive layers come in constant contact meaning it. Ould misinterpret commands.
Is it possible the screen is just loosened from the digitizer or is it more likely the 2 layers of resisitive and conductive layer are loose?
Does anyone know what this is?
It is so annoying in certain parts of the screen it seems to be looose hence the tapping. Is the glue loose or the screen coming apart?
If i lie it flat on a table there is less rattling when i type but when i put it in my case to hold it up the clicky rattling sound is more im just worried it's going to collapse at some point. Can anyone fathom what might be causing this?
It feels like the creen has come loose slightly in certain parts of the screen as if i tap on the opposite side across the screen it seems to c9rrect this issue for a few secs which leads me to think the screen is coming loose
Ive just realised now it's the back cover which is loose or the insides.
It seems by me pressing down on the front screen too much and the back of the tablet not completely heald down on a flat hard surface t has somehow caused the back cover to come loose of the parts inside have come loose by being forced back slightly.
Does anyone guess what is hppening?
When i flip over the tablet and press the back and tap the back cover on the right side it sounds loose and if i press on it there is some give like there is some space.
So ive identified what is thr cause of this and it's that my case which has rubber corners which hold it against the back of the backbpard leaves a gap between tge tablet and the backboard of the case cover. When i tap the screen too hard it causes a flex ehich unfortunately has caused the tablettobend and push the motherboard and insides onto the back cover which hss now flexed and stretched i presume? Or it has xaused the components to dislodge and misplace, can the back cover actually stretch this much?ithought it wad hard pladtic that retains its shape
I heard the tab s creaks also but mine is the back cover has stretched out fr8m within not holding the components snuggly if that makes sense. What is the fix for this?
Hi
I have 10" tablet that I bought from an Alibaba supplier which I am currently evaluating.
Over Christmas I took it to my inlaws which involved a plane flight.
When we got to their house I noticed a blotch in the middle to top half of the screen, but functioning of the tablet was normal.
After a bit of time on google I came to the conclusion that there is supposed to be an airgap between the LCD and digitiser and that blotch could be caused by the two coming into contact.
Then I found that by pressing the screen the blotch would move around.
Then I found that if I twisted the entire chassis of the tablet that it started to shrink.
Eventually the blotch disappeared.
I thought that maybe the tablet had taken a knock and something was distorted inside and pressing on the LCD or something like that.
On the way back I packed it a lot more carefully, but the same thing happened again.
I think that what happens is that during the flight the pressure drop causes some of the air between the digitiser and the LCD to escape out of the gap. Then as the plane drops the air for whatever reason doesn't re-enter the gap and so a slight vacuum forms in there.
I think that twisting the tablet most open up a seal somewhere and this allows a little bit of air back in.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Does it mean that the tablet is rubbish and I should find another supplier?
Or maybe it's just because it's an evaluation unit?
or should I not worry about it?
thanks, DNJ
