Nexus 5 D821 Tmo LTE question - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see there is a new hack that enables other LTE channels for the NExus 5 D820/D821. Does this now mean I can edit my phone to work on Tmo LTE here in the US? I went through 15 pages or so on the thread and cannot find a direct answer.
Thanks!

thats because there is no direct answer. the most in detail answer for you is.. you can try.

So, I guess my question should be re-worded as...
Has anyone done the hack to a D821 and been able to use North America T-Mobile full LTE properly?

Anyone?

which nexus s

Hello
I apologize now, i have searched but maybe im looking for the wrong answer
I have just bought a nexus s and rooted it via a great guide on here that works for all nexus s's the only problem i am having is now trying to find out what model i have as i bought it off ebay.
under the battery it says GT I9020
but with the A and T available i dunno which one i have.
I will provide more info if required but i dunno which one i have so i can flash the more up to date OTA (ie 2.3.5 + 6)
I apologize again and thank you for help in advance
Regards
Matt
Which carrier, can use 3G?
If ATT and 3G - a
ATT and no 3G - t
TMo 3G - t
TMo no 3G - a
Compare frequencies from your carrier with ATT/TMo if not in US.

ok so as i see it someone correct me if i am wrong
i have 3 g but i am in uk so
AT&T 3G = 850/1900Mhz
TMobile 3G = 1700/2100Mhz
I am on Three UK and they support 850/2100Mhz
Mock me if i am wrong but i am still confused to which model i have an A or a T
:-(
Check gsmarena.com
Att has 850-1900-2100
Tmo has 900-1700-2100
I hope this helps.
Can u take a picture of the model number in the back. Out of curiosity I wanna see how did that happen
Still both networks support 3G 2100Mhz and after checking what aerial mast is in my area with the network you guessed it its a 2100Mhz so i still have no idea on which model number i have :-(
someone give me a clue!
You have the at&t model. Even though they both have 2100mhz, Tmobile uses there 2100mhz specifically for the upload portion of HSPA+ while the 1700mhz is used specifically for the download portion, without both bands then your phone (any HSPA phone) will not register with Tmobile 3/4G network.

[Q] Nexus international version (D821) on US MVNO/Pre-paid

I haven't been able to find a good answer to this question so I thought I'd make this thread in the hopes someone with direct or relevant experience could chime in and leave the internet with a more useful record to help out others who have come across the same question.
It is well documented that the international version (D821) of the Nexus 5 does not work well (or at all) on US 4G. If this is incorrect, please feel free to chime in with any applicable 4G MVNOs, but that aside.. Because of the nature of this phone, many people have purchased it to use contract-free in their own country and may wish to travel with it to other countries and simply swap SIMs in order to use a a pre-paid or MVNO SIM during their travels. This becomes more difficult when it comes to traveling in the US when one wishes to use the D821.
With 4G presumably off the table, are there any 3G pre-paid/MVNO SIMs which are known to function with the d821 in the United States?
Thanks for any and all constructive input.
To answer my own question, it seems these days 3G only service is not a widely available option. T-Mobile's $30/Month 4G/3G plan may suffice (automatically puts your device on the best band it supports) though I have yet to test it.
That said, can anyone confirm T-Mobile 3G as working on their D821?

UK d821 in the US

Hi all
Sorry if this has been asked, Im now living in Texas and on Tmobiles unlimited LTE plan and found out my UK N5 can only recieve HSPA+ with my phone.
Is there a way to enable the bands on my phone to get LTE on Tmobile, also just upgraded to Lollipop.
Thanks
Paul
Mad skills.
Also, questions go in Q&A.

can't connect with 4g, only 3g

Dear friends, I have Nexus 5 but 4G doesn't works . My service provider supports 4G service at 800MHz and 1800MHz as it shown here http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=Morocco , but my nexus 5 d 821 does not work with 4G, I want to ask that if there is a solution like a roms or others things.
Thanks in advance.
800MHz and 1800MHz are LTE bands 20 and 3 which are supported by your device but those information are for Morocco. Do you have the same information from your carrier?

Do you have a map that could show you the cell towers around you?
Is LTE enabled in your phone settings? (preferred network type)

sometimes the phone loses signal and switches to ''emergency calls only" mode even when i force switching to 3G by typing *#*#4636#*#*
If anyone you kno how to solve this problem or anyone else here do,could you possibly help me out with this.

hi friend, nice to meet you
i will try to give you a summary of what i reached in the end.
first thing, i discovered that the nexus 5 that i have is not a D821 but it's a D820 means it's the version especially for USA networks, and this mean that 4G of USA networks works on different bands than ours in Morocco, so after finding exactly where the problem, i began looking for a solution and i found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561 and after application the lesson, i got the 4G connection on my phone, and it's work very well till now.
this is my story, and i think it's a little different than mine.

i'm glad you answered.
and i'm glad you figured that out and solved your problem.
my case is somewhat different from yours.
before enabling those bands, you never caught 4G signal.
but for me,i do get 4G signal and connect to it,i access internet data, surfe, and make calls, but it's only when i'm near a 4G network tower.
which means the band is already activaed,it's just a deal with the signal strength.
if you can help me,i'd really appreciate that.
i'm really confused wether to flash those drivers or do something about the radio, cuz this problem brings about another problem which is battery drain,
my battery drains faster cuz the phone keeps searching for network.
just to let you know, when i go to bootloader it says Lg nexus 5 D821 (H)

Dude,you won't believe this !!
i just removed the back cover of my nexus 5 and was freaked out to find out it was actually an american model D820
thought the fact that in fastboot mode( bootloader) it says it's a D821 (H)
and guess what ! that (H) confused me and made me doubting it to not be a global (indian) version.
i guess i need to flash Some bands to get my LTE working properly.
thoughtless it's working but only when i'm near a 4G tower !
please help me.
i'd really appreciate that.

hey bro!
how are you doing ?
i hope you are fine[emoji4]
sorry for this long escape ( been so freaking busy with exams and preparation )
i really am confused with this device !
i thought it to be a nexus 5 model D820 because it can't catch 4G properly , then i removed the back cover and found it's A (D820) then went to regulatory information like you said found it's a (D821 )
went to fastboot mode found out it's a (D821 {H} )
i'm freaking confused.
i used an app called ''LTE Discovery'' to identify which bands my phone uses to connect to 4G when it catches it, i found band 3 and 7 !
do i still need to enable any additional bands like 7 or 20 to get 4G working properly ?
waiting to hearing from you soon !
sincerely,
Zackaria.

what concerns us is what there is within the system and not back cover, so depending on the picture attached and what you said, the version D821 should run 4G, because the bands necessary are already exists. did you tried other SIM cards ( maroc telecom, meditel, inwi ) ? what did you get ? the same problem ?

i'm using ''maroc telecom'' thought i tried other Sim cards nothing has changed.
i tried inwi. it works well !
i don't know if i still have to activate any additional bands like band 8 and 20 ?
i talked to the guy that have posted the video in youtube and said that i need to activate band 20 if it isn't activated yet.
then talked to developer ''azlun'' who first succeeded to activate band 3 and 20 and said that if band 3 is already activated , but 4G still doesn't work properly , then i need to activate band 8 and 20 which is impossible due to hardware limitations.
what i really need to know what bands are used to connect to 4G in morocco ?
i already have band 3 and 7 activated.
if i have A D821 what others do i still have to activate ?

as i know in morocco, the telecom companies use 1800 Mhz and 800Mhz for LTE connection, which means bands 3 and 20, so the global version D821 has bands 3&20 already exists, and the two of them and you don't need to enable any bands! take a look here: D821 LTE bands : 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800).
did you do this step ? calling service client of "maroc telecom" on 888 and tell them that the 4G doesn't work on your phone, and the will activate 4G connection for you, although you have a 4G SIM, you have to call service client of maroc telecom on 888 to ask them to activate LTE connection

like i said,
my Sim card has already 4G network.
i already called them.
the problem has to do with my device.
now, you just said Nexus 5 Model D821 has band 3 and 20 enabled.
and i tell you i used an app called LTE discovery to find out which bands my phone uses to connect to 4G i found band 3 and sometimes band 7.
if it's the global version why it doesn't use band 20 ?
maybe i need to enable band 8 or 20.
imma call service client f maroc telecom tomorrow and ask them which bands they rely on.
then, imma be taking the next step.
i will really need your help bro.
and excuse my ignorance.

LTE Bands by carrier.. Different? The same?

Hello, all.
I have seen similar posts to this; however, I cannot seem to get a definitive answer.
I have the Verizon 8+. I would like to throw my T-Mobile SIM card in to this device and use on T-Mobile. Reason for not purchasing the TMob phone is that I can save $$ through Verizon.
In any case, I have seen some posts that say that every carrier model contains the same LTE bands and I have seen some posts that say that certain models (VZW) may be lacking particular LTE bands required for ATT and T-Mobile.
Can anyone confirm one way or the other? Does the Verizon model (which is already unlocked) contain all the LTE bands I will need for full service on T-Mobile? Or is it worth just buying the T-Mobile variant?
Thanks in advance and I apologize for any duplicate post; however, I can not seem to find a definitive answer on this question.
Dial *#2263# on a Verizon gs8 and see what bands you can set it too.

Just go to Samsung's website and check their specs. Someone also listed the links where you can get them with a simple click.
Just off hand they all have different spectrums, it will not have all T-mobile bands, and you will lose a carrier feature or two(different standards). It will have just enough for most places.

First of all 2263 code is not valid for Verizon. Secondly Verizon blocks service mode on Samsung phones. If you want to use Verizon s8 on T-mobile, you'll have flash T-mobile firmware with odin to have all LTE bands.
The phones are the same hardware. You will need to flash the carrier firmware that you want on the device. So fkash TMO firmware on it and good to go. Thats how they did it with the S7. They all have all the bands. The firmware blocks some bands from other carriers but they do exist in the hardware.

Sadly using the newest version of Odin you can not currently flash the T-Mobile firmware. It completes successfully using Odin and even after an immediate factory reset (with the VZW sim out) it still boots up with Verizon firmware.
If anyone figures this out I'd be real happy as well, as T-Mobile is much more reliable in my area.
