Hi there,
Since android 5.0 we have no more aosp gallery.
Is a Google+ account needed to use the Google photo's app?
I don't use G+ and would like to delete it.

No you don't need to use Google + to be able to use Photos, however you won't be able to backup your photos if you're not logged in.

I have been on both ParanoidAndroid and AOKP and neither support syncing with Google+ Albums and its really bothersome. I am a Photographer and I use the syncing to showcase my images. People ask "well why dont you just go into the Google+ app"...because you can view photos offline. I have already tried one method of replacing the Camera and Gallery app with another version, but if I dont that, I am stuck at only being able to take pictures at 3MP. Will the syncing be available after testing is over? or is this something I am going to have to live with?
Is there a Gapps with the 4.2 camera (that doesnt freeze) and a gallery app that snycs with picasa?
second question: I also cant get google+ to sync photos. Under android snyc, it shows google photos snyced today, but under google+ it says instant upload is off. when i try to turn it on, it says you need to enable instant upload in "Accounts & Snyc" I dont see any other options other than what ive already enabled. But none of my photos are snycing with google+.
Any thoughts? I'm on liquid smooth beta 3.2
Thanks
I am having the same problem, where Google Plus won't allow me to enable uploads. Is there a fix for this?

I need this too. Im about to go back to stock and root it from there and leave it like that.
Let me start off by saying I do not do social media at all, including Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. I know there is a way to automatically backup photos to a Google+ account but I do not want that. I want to be able to automatically upload pictures from my Nexus 5 to my Picasa account. Is this possible? If so, could someone tell me how?
Thanks!

So would I have to have a Google+ profile in order to do this? I really don't want to do that.
Yes, but if you're currently using Picasa Web Albums you've given Google all the information they need for a G+ profile. All you need is a name and e-mail address, you don't need to put any other information on there and the profile defaults to everything being private.
Just keep in mind that Picasa Web Albums is really just a legacy way to access it and everything is being stored through Google+ now. If you're not happy about Google+ I would recommend switching to a different storage option like MyShoebox, Adobe Revel, Flickr, etc...
Really dumb question, but when using the Samung apps like contacts to change contact photos it defaults to Samsung Gallery for the photo, but the Google+ photos dont sync to the stock Gallery app by default (far as I can tell), sync is on in Google account so nothing wrong there...considering I do some dev stuff here this seems like a really silly question.
Anyone figure this out yet?
TLDR: how do i sync google+ photos to stock gallery app?
I want to know this too.
I've had Instagram installed on my Android phone (Nexus 6P) for quite some time now. I decided to download Facebook's standalone Messenger and when I went to log in, it knew that I had my Instagram account and suggested that I log in with my Instagram account. How can prevent apps from being able to read each other like this?
