[Q] Data usage - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have now searched the phone for the place where I can keep track of my data usage. But so far I did not succeed. It should be available in Android 4
Would be glad for some help.

You can only check your daily usage: phone manager -> data usage (somethink like that)
I have not found the "android" data usage -> xx MB for the last x days.

I can find daily usage and usage per app over the month.
But no overall monthly usage of all apps together.

Yep seems its removed (stock Android feature)

A german user in a germa forum found (were??) this - root is required:
CREDITS GO TO --> ernie1981 <---
----- only tested on MT7-L09 - european 2GB-version -------
(but I didn`t know a reason, why this shouldn`t work on other Mate`s)
open with file explorer, for example root explorer:
cust/hw/eu/prop --> open local.prop with editor an insert this:
ro.config.hw_opta=999
ro.config.hw_optb=156
I inserted this near the end of the local.prop, save it an started new ..
Now third point in settings --> data usage :good:

You can use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.olivierboite.android.hiddenapp
No root required!

It doesn't work :X
Although I can't find Data Usage option in settings but when I reached 2gb cap,
I saw a notification, warning me that I had reached over 2Gb. When I pressed it I saw Data usage.
Hope Huawei fix this so we can access Data Usaage in settings....

This works, thank you. When you open the app, look for "Data Usage" then touch and hold it for a while and it will create a shortcut to your main screen.

An alternative is the app "More Shortcuts", which also allows you to access hidden features.

Apps Collection For Rooted Phones

Hi ,
Just thought of sharing the rooted apps which i am using right now.
Might help a few:
1) LBE Privacy Guard: Block all those jack sh*t applications from accessing the internet or reading IMEI. Easy to configure simple to use.
2) Avast Antivirus: Name says it all
3) Ad Free: Block all those unwanted apps and enjoy Life.
4) SD Tools/ SD Speed: To increase SD Card speed
5) Reverse Tether: For those of us. who dont have a wifi connection at place and have a wired connection.
Just connect your usb cable to pc and turn on tethering and use reverse tether to connect.
And lo and behold a working high speed internet connection with no hassles.
6) My Backup Pro: Awesome app to backup contacts/smses and applications. A one stop tool . Non Rooted Ones can also use this but with limited functionality.
7) Autorun Manager: You bloody a**(application). Why the hell do you need to startup everytime. Block unwanted applications from starting up.
8) Volume+: Rooted Apps with more functionality.
9) Super user: Manage super user connection.
10) Titanium Backup : Another backup tool but it screwed my system . So not using it.
11) Lucky Patcher: Name says it all.

Storage reporting problem

Hello,
I`ve noticed something strange at my phone: when I go into Settings - Storage - Used space, the numbers seems legit (Applications - 4 G par ex.).
If I click on Applications - it takes me to Application manager, but the biggest app reported here is Google Play Services - 180 M.
And yes, it is sorted by size
I know where the 4 G comes from: I have 2 massive games (NFS MW and MKX). I checked in Android folder - data and obb - ES File explorer is reporting good (NFS folder is 1.82 G and MKX is 1.67 G).
In App Manager, these 2 apps have 30 M and 82 M (yes, I know, they are only apps, they downloaded the content after).
My question is: shouldn`t the apps content be seen by App Manager? I remembered that on another phone (could be 4.4, could be 5.0) App Manager would stay a bit to process, but the reporting was correct. Is this a Lollipop issue?
Thank you

No this is not a issue. They aren't displayed as the biggest apps because the app manager only checks the "apps" and not the obb and data. This is also why Google is on top of this list. They store their data in the app it self. NFS and MKX store their data is a different file.
I understand, but bare with me: z3c with 5.1.1

Yes it is an issue, actually. Every other Android phone I've ever used takes these external files into account when calculating app usage space - Moto E, Asus Zenpad S 8, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 6, hell, my kid's LG Optimus Exceed 2 even worked this way.
It's clearly a bug with the way Samsung is calculating App space as it ignores anything in /sdcard/android/data and /sdcard/android/obb thus making it completely useless to figure out which games or apps you need to delete to make more room on your phone. I'm currently on the lookout for any kind of third-party app that actually reports the proper sized, and I'll update this thread if I find something.

Introduction:
LAN drive is an easy SAMBA Server for Android (iOS & WM10) devices.
Access all your phone files - InternalStorage,SDCard,ExternalHDD - in read/write remotely with common softwares :
MAC OS Finder
Windows File Explorer
ES Explorer
VLC
Kodi
Any SMB client capable app
You just have to be on the same network (WiFi) to make it work.
There are 3 default network sharings activated :
'LANdrive' : storage bound with the app (deleted when you clear cache of the app)
'Root' : "/" access
'InternalStorage' :
'SDCard'|'HDD': Any other external storage automatically detected
You can create your custom sharings too (bound to the app or select one with file picker)
The app is free with an InApp purchase for unlocking the bandwidth (0.5 MB/s in trial) and remove ads, otherwise all is functionnal.
We released it first at the end of January 2018 and are looking for feedback and help in making LAN drive the best it can be.
Presentation Video:
Works without ROOT:
Read the tutorial inside the app (works on Windows / MAC / Linux)
Features:
Copy/paste/rename files and folders on your device with MAC OS Finder, Windows File Explorer, Android ES Explorer, etc.
Access the 'external' storage (Photos and Videos included) in your device as a network shared folder.
Access the Root folder and all directories including SD Cards or external HDDs as network shared folders
View your multimedia files with embedded mediaplayer (or external app).
Your device name appears automatically in MAC OS Finder, Windows File Explorer, Android ES Explorer, VLC, Kodi etc.
Manage your device name (NetBios) and Workgroup name.
3 authentication types : Anonymous with popup confirmation, Anonymous and Users with custom rights
Manage users and create your own shared folders with credentials.
View users connected and disconnect them.
Unlimited connections (several users can access your sharings at the same time)
5 languages : English, Spanish, French, German, Italian.
Launched as a service in the background : Access your SMB server while using other apps
Optionally start the app after boot device completed
Protocols SMB1 (CIFS) and SMB2 protocol (enable/disable via settings)
How Does It Work?
LAN drive uses its own SMB1 & SMB2 implementation with an efficient way to announce itself on clients (your phone appears automatically in other software, even in Windows 10 File Explorer).
You can choose 3 ways to authenticate :
Popup confirmation (default)
Anonymous
Create users with custom rights
Even if it requires root access, LAN drive is non intrusive (not installed in app systems), nothing will stay in the system after uninstall it.
Known issues
App startup time could be very slow (could take 10 seconds depending the devices).
It's not something we can improve at the moment (framework loading Xamarin.Forms)
App Size : 26MB. We can't make it better, again Xamarin.Forms have some mandatory DLL to load to work
Use cases:
Some users don't know the powerfull use of SMB server, here some use cases:
Backup files, like you do with an USB key, but without the USB cable, and with security credentials.
Watch your movies/photos on your TV with Kodi (or VLC) streaming directly from your Phone.
Use a Backup utility from MAC or PC to create a scheduled task which backup|synchronize your movies/photos every days.
Developers|Hackers could browse Root "/" and edit/delete/copy/paste any files without using adb shell
Who Are We?
Webrox is a little french company of 2 persons, we build apps since 2011, check the Webrox store page here.
We made LAN drive to have a very easy multiplatform SMB Server.

I hope no one will be upset with my post, specially the OP.
But since there is no update for Samba Filesharing since 2014, I feel obligated to share my discovery.
Yesterday I found an alternative app in play store: LAN drive - SAMBA Server.
In preliminary tests it works well and seems faster than Samba Filesharing. But be aware that the free version has a speed limit. To use LAN drive at full speed you have to pay.
The app has been released on January 25, 2018. There are constant updates and the dev seems active and responsive.
I made this discovery because there was no way Samba Filesharing would work in my Moto Z2 Play. Due to the nightmare of using MTP I started searching for alternatives. I found LAN drive and it worked like a charm.
When creating your accounts and shares, my advice is first create all your shares and then add users. If you follow the app suggested sequence you will end up with your custom shares not accessible from your PC.
If you use file synchronization software be aware that LAN drive has a bug. Files written to the phone do not get the time stamp updated to the source file time stamp. I will report this to the dev and hope it gets fixed soon.

Hello svbarbosa, I'm the LAN drive developer.
I will fix the issues of users rights and wrong timestamp on monday.
I would like to tell other users LAN drive is a non intrusive app (it doesn't install anything in the system apps and it only work when you started it, security is a big thing these days).
If anybody have a feedback, feel free to test LAN drive and feedback me

@poppyto, welcome to XDA!
Glad to confirm you are really active and responsive.
I have also seen your answer to my email and will get on it soon. Some family errands to run first.
Take your time to fix the issues. We have been waiting for so long to have samba support that we can sure handle waiting some more time to have your fixes.
And please do start the LAN Drive app thread. I am a long time user of Samba Filesharing and despite it seems to be dead in terms of new development, somehow I feel weird talking about a replacement app here.
I had problems with Samba Filesharing not working in my Moto Z2 Play, it is my first phone where Samba Filesharing would not work. Shares do not appear on my PC.
I did some research and foung a great replacement app. Check it out in my previous post #235.

I was happy to found your app, but nothing works (I have paid in the meantime):
1. I cannot make a new user
2. I cannot change sharings etc.
3. I cannot change device name and so on.
your app does not accept any input
Until now I am using Samba FileServer or SambaDroid
You could make a own XDA thread here if your app really works.

As I cannot change the settings I cannot get a connection to my Win10 PC.
As I wrote too I have no problems with Samba File Server or SambaDroid.
2. On a very old LG P970 (Android 4.x) I can change the settings of this app but I don't see this phone in my network because Lan Server catches a wrong IP address (perhaps mobile and not WLAN).
This app is in my eyes only alpha quality until now.

Hi,
since Lan Drive v1.3 I can configure this app now
But there are problems of course:
1. During deep sleep of my device I have wakelocks the whole time (battery is discharging badly), See attached screenshot.
2. If I de-install the app and make a fresh new installation all shares are visible and I have access (not always). But after a short time or after stopping and restarting this app my device is no longer visible. I tested this on two smartphones several times. That is terrible.
Wishes.
A possibility to save and restore the settings on the (external) sdcard.
2. If I tap on the back key the should NOT stop the smb server.
If the smb server is running the transfer rate is very good compared to the old samba file server

1. It looks "normal" in Service mode because the app continues to advertise so it uses battery.
If you don't need the run as Service feature, you could deactive it in the settings (but the app will not work in background after that, only in foreground)
2. Ok cool, I will add it
3. Yep specially in service mode ok, I'll fix it

No, that is not normal: during 14h 59m your app has during 98.6% of this time wakelocks. The battery drops normally during night from 100 to 95% but with your running discharges to ~70%.
As you can see other apps in my screenshot they have all >0.2 %.
Your app should detect this unused time during night (deep sleep) and when WLAN is off, there is no need to permanent check.
BetterBatteryStats is a perfect app to detect things.
And thank you to solve the other two points.
You will have a lot of work for this app (fine tuning)

Ok, I just sent an update,
So, based on your comment about the battery drain:
I add an auto stop after inactivity time (no connection on the server) you can change it in the settings (default:30min), I hope it will resolve your battery issue let me know !
Here the new changelog for 1.5 (will be available in 15 minutes I guess) :
New feature : Auto Stop server after inactivity time (change the duration in the settings, default : 30mn)
New feature : Backup and restore your settings on an external file
New behavior : Doesn't stop the server when button back on the homepage

Thank you, your app will become better with each update.
To 1. the server stops with no wakelocks now: good
But the server stops always, it should only stop if WLAN is off.
To 2. Backup is fine but if I select a external path (e.g. SDCard1) the app should remember this selected path if I want to restore, so I do not
have to search.
To 3. ok
Thank you.
There could be a bug with access rights to root directory.
With the build-in root share or with a own declared share I can
1. map this share in Windows but cannot access directories or
2. mapping fails with access error 5 in windows.
Mapping and access of sdcard0 and sdcard1 is always ok.
I have this behavior on two smartphones (Sony Z1c Android 5.1.1 stock rom, rooted of course)
With Samba File Server and SambaDroid no problem.

So only "Root" / shows access denied in Windows ?
Maybe there's something wrong with Android < 6.0 (I use 6.0 and more)
Could I contact you directly to solve the case ? (I will need some actions to do)

There are sometimes difficulties to access the other shares too on my two identical Z1c.
Today I found 6 active connections to my PC even if none are really mapped (PC was new started, see screenshot).
To the wakelocks: stopping the server is NO solution as the samba server is not started again when WLAN comes back.
Perhaps you can find here on XDA how to handle wacklocks correct.
As you can see in the second screenshot LD permanently sends wakelocks (98.6% of the running time of the server), compare this with the other running apps. I cannot help I am no programmer.
Your app seems to have one permanent wakelock (count:0 time 98,6%), all other apps have some counts and a very little used time. So your app prevents Android to go to deep sleep.
Of course you can connect me direct with perhaps a PM (XDA-profile).
Good luck.

Other apps don't wavelock because they don't need it.
Without wavelock, LAN drive can't work (TCP connections are dropped) when the screen goes off and people want to use it when the scren goes off, the first option to stop the server when there's no more connections since a duration is a good option.
The good way should be to capture the "Deep Sleep" event, but it's impossible with the WaveLock on.
I will think about it this week if I can find a better solution

You could try this with the Samba File Server app how wakelocks should look.
And with BetterBatteryStats (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats) you see the result after some time in summary-partial wakelocks.
I tried this again with samba file server, waited ~20 mins in deep sleep and no single wakelock from this server was seen.
I don't know how this works but in my opinion Android shuts down WLAN when the screen goes off and no charging (that is my setting in Android) and then the samba server has nothing to do and it should stop his own wakelocks to save battery until WLAN starts again.
Sorry I am not a programmer.

Amazon made some slight changes to the Android code which gave these applications full, and in my opinion unnecessary control of the tablets and the security options. Disabling or uninstalling them can and will eventually cause you to reflash stock firmware. That's because they are labeled as "device/profile owner applications". Located in /data/system is 'device_owner.xml'. That file configures the apps as device/profile owners and doing anything to stop them results in a disaster, often unfixable without reflashing stock. The idea was to trick FireOS by switching device owner applications right from under it's nose. It's not easy but it is possible.
This will be along guide. one or two of these steps may not even be necessary but I am going to present them as I did them and was successful. Beyond that you are free to remove steps and try the process at your will. However any deviation from the guide can result in damage to your device. Even this guide may result in damage to your device, because not everyone's results will be the same. From here on out you are on your own and I am not responsible for any damage done to your devices. This will take some time, if you do not have it it is recommended you do not continue until you do. It will not be possible to pause for extended periods through this guide. This WILL REQUIRE a factory reset. You must be rooted or have an unlocked tablet to complete the guide. You must also have the Google play store and related services installed as system applications in priv-app folder. For this it's recommended to flash a pico Gapps package in TWRP.
THIS OPERATION WAS PERFORMED ON A DEVICE THAT WAS DEODEXED ON 5.6.1.0 WITH A 5.3.6.0 (LATEST FIREOS) BOOT IMAGE. This will not likely work on a stock ROM that has not been deodexed.
Instructions:
1. You need to download an application that uninstalls system applications. Any one of them will do so long as it works. You will absolutely need to download an application that does this. Also download a root file explorer.
2. Uninstall the application called 'Managed provisioning.' then open a shell using a terminal emulator or ADB. Then type the commands below.
Code:
adb shell
su
settings put global device_provisioned 0
3. Go to settings > security > device administrator and make sure Google pay is a device administrator. This is very important and you must not miss this step.
4. Using a root explorer, go to /data/system and copy device_owner.xml to your internal storage. If using your PC please use Notepad++, though it's recommended you complete the following tasks on your device.
4b. Go to system/etc/permissions/ and open handheld_core_hardware.xml in a text editor. Find the line that says: <!-- feature name="android.software.managed_users" --> and replace that line with the one below, save the file and reboot:
Code:
<feature name="android.software.managed_users" />
5. Then go to your internal storage and open the file device_owner.xml in a text editor. Replace the lines of text with the text below, making sure the format is NOT changed from the original and save the file:
Code:
<profile-owner package="com.google.android.gms" name="Google Play services" userId="0" component="com.google.android.gms/com.google.android.gms.mdm.receivers.MdmDeviceAdminReceiver" />
6. NOTE: this step CANNOT be done in TWRP. Again Using a root explorer, copy and paste device_owner.xml to /data/system, overwriting the current one (remember to back up the original). Set permissions to rw (0600) and reboot. If there are no errors or popups and your home and recents button still work after rebooting, continue to the next step.
7. Reboot to recovery and clear/wipe cache and dalvik and reboot system. When booted, if no pop errors from anything, open the uninstaller app you downloaded and uninstall Parental Controls and Parental monitoring. Again reboot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik and reboot system.
8. Again if no errors, reboot to recovery again and this time do a factory reset. This step is very important and cannot be missed. It is absolutely required that the data be wiped on the device or the device and system will recognize it is no longer owner of said device and it will start shutting you out of security and other options on the device.
9. When rebooted, Open the shell in terminal emulator again or ADB and type the following command below. A reboot should not be necessary when done:
Code:
su
settings put global device_provisioned 1
10. Download an activity launcher (I use activity manager and yes you need to pay a slight fee to use the root part of the launcher, but it's worth it.) Scroll settings and search for 'generic lockscreen set' and long press it to open it with root access. All of your lock screen options should be open and available to you even after removing the parental applications. If they are congratulations you have now remove parental applications and the restrictions that came with them from your device. Go back to /data/system and you will also notice that the device_owner.xml is gone. Killing 2 birds with one stone. If any lockscreen options are blocked then you have failed to properly remove the parental applications and the policies that go along with them.
NOTE: You may need to deactivate 'smart lock' and trusted gms as that may interfere with some lock screen options.
I'll let you guys decide, but I think the device is vastly improved in terms of performance and in Internet connectability after removing these applications.
Edit: forgot a step. Can't believe I did that.

I must have goofed. I did a factory reset and now my tablet is back to stock. lol
Edit: I take that back. I tap on parental controls and nothing happens lol
Edit2: Yep It's running good. You were right too. It seems like it runs a lot smoother without amazon's parental controls.

Cuz I'm pretty sure without the support of manage profiles, the parental applications actually cut down on a Wi-Fi speed. I don't think it's cutting short the connection, rather the metrics and scripts associated with other apps and configs, cause it to constantly disconnect and reconnect. also fireOS doesn't like when you have more than one network saved at a time, in the same area. You can also delete etc/wifiloglevels.sh if you are on the deodexed rom. Can also set the value of the line in build prop for wifi rssi levels to ""

Add: you Dan probably reinstall the managed provisioning app. It might let you create a work profile I am not sure. I am going to experiment with that more tomorrow.
I'd like to add that I am on the same battery cycle as the other day when I started this process at 65%. I haven't been as aggressive in my use as much as normal this weekend but I haven't had to put it on the charger all well and usually I have to do that a few times a week if I really use it.
I forgot to mention that step 4 and possibly 5 seem jumbled.

I'm not sure what app you mean. What I meant was this part:
Using a root explorer, go to /data/system and copy device_owner.xml to your internal storage and open it in a text editor. If using your PC please use Notepad++, though it's recommended you complete the following tasks on your device. Open system/etc/permissions/handheld_core_hardware.xml in a text editor.

I figured out what you meant but I thought I would point it out just in case others can't.

Worded it a bit better and broke it apart somewhat. I definitely saw where one would get lost right there. Good eyes!
Hi Dragon Fire,
Is it now working ok? I have the HD8 (7th generation) and would like to eliminate the restrictions of the parental control.

Every thing is working so far as I can see. There is a slight delay with some apps that require a lock screen be activated for them to work. I use a WiFi app my provider provides and it requires a screen lock. It failed to recognize it at first. Clearing the providers app cache and restarting it worked.

Hi guys, I got a couple questions about this process...
Could someone who did it already check to see if it is possible to change the language of the tablet? On my own tablet, I get a message about parental controls being required, however my own tablet was rooted and debloated a different way last year. In my case, I don't care about changing the language, and I'm totally satisfied with the results I got.
I ask because I'd like to do this "stock Android look & feel" process for a friend (they do not even have an Amazon account, nor want one), but they need to be able to switch language between English and Spanish on a regular basis, and I don't want to mess up their tablet with mods that would prevent this.
Thanks for any insights you guys might have on this... really appreciate the hard work and vast knowledge represented here on XDA.

Hacked Galaxy S10e

Hi Everyone
I'm assume my phone been hacked or cloned I'm not sure what's the right word for it but I need help to find out If I'm right or I'm just being paranoid.

I find in my battery usage my secure folder using 381 MB of data what I hardly use, , 324 MB Foreground, 57 MB background.
In the secure folder checking wi-fi data usage , on the bottom has "something" named 15010286 what used 5,41 kb data in the past week..
Some of my setting are changing, like I had swithed off the option to show up the letter or number when I typing passwords etc.
When I checking battery usage in settings, I scrolling down and after couple seconds its jump up the top again.
My question would be: any program what would find the program what the intruder used?
How can be sure if Im hacked or how can I clean my phone??
Thanks
Sounds less like a hacker and more like just a buggy phone xD. This behaviour is in fact strange but I would doubt that this is a hacker. Maybe you've downloaded some cracked apks from the internet and accidentally downloaded malware.
Maybe this isn't the best way but try this:
Go to device care, device security (or something similar) and scan your phone. If there is an obvious malware the scan will detect it. if not, I cannot help you.
Personally I store everything on my sd card so I would just do a factory reset. Idk about you.
Thanks for the reply.
I have SOPHOS "antieverything" on my phone, the only app what didn't come from google play was the latest Vanced.
Device care/device security shows no malware.
I have 100 GB data on my phone, my SD card encrypted, same as my phone. Any advice what is the easiest way to save all those pictures and videos before I factory reset my phone? Preferably direct to an USB as most likely my PC and home network hacked too.
Thanks

just connect your device to PC and do MTP connection and transfer all files (pictures, videos, music, hentai folder .. etc) to PC
fast and efficient
Thanks for that.
I can save my stuff but still won't know if I been hacked or not??
