Lollipop custom kernels - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just recently install the factory images of lollipop and was wondering if anyone was having good experience with the custom kernel I noticed Franco and cold blue both have kernel out and was wondering if anyone had any great results with them compared to the stock kernel that comes with the factory image.

Anyone? I just flashed Franco's kernel and everything seems to be working fine. I just can't wait to be able to get my camera set correctly.

I had great results with code blue on kitkat but I've been running hells core since L came out and really liking it.

4.4.1 4.4.2 kernel flashable zip?

I'm on stock 4.4.2. I flashed a kernel and I'm getting battery discharge more so than I would like. Does anyone know if there is a flashable zip for stock kernel? And does 4.4.1 have a different kernel than 4.4.2? I wouldn't think so because of the 4.4.2 update being so small. But who knows. Anyhow I'm on the go so I can't fast boot anything. Thanks

Hi,
For the stock kernel, take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518816&page=6.
4.4.1/4.4.2 kernels are the same.

What are you running on your nexus 5?

Hey I was wonder what roms, Kernels, or other modifications are you guys running on your nexus 5's. I am running cataclysm ROM, Chaos kernel, Dalvik and Bionic optimizations, volume boost, Faux gamma tweaks, and Jishnu's camera mod. So far it seems to be working well. +Twrp and root ( duh)

Pretty much this. The only thing I have changed is I flashed the optimized Dalvik library files. Other than that I am running TWRP Recovery and SuperSU for root.
Stock ROM, stock kernel, xposed w/ gravity box.

this combo is fantastic
Mahdi rom and franco kernel. Absolutely amazing combo IMO.....
Do you guys prefer franco over chaos? and if so can you use gamma tweaks on franco?
stock, franco and xposed with gravity
Rooted stock. I'm all over *all* over the place considering which rom to go with. Vanir, Cataclysm and SlimKat all have their attractions.
Paranoid Android 4.0BETA - but doesn't really matter, I could go back to stock and be just as happy, the current ROMs are pretty basic.
Stock rom, elementalx kernel, xposed gravitybox.
Stock rooted on ART. I was on Purity and Franco for a while, but the battery life just wasn't doing it for me. I've also tried stock and Gravity Box, which is awesome but isn't compatible with ART. Basically, I keep coming back to stock with ART because nothing I've found beats it for smoothness and battery life.

Have you tried cataclysm with ART? It breaks my camera app but is just as smooth as stock. Or have you tried the dalvik optimizations, they may dalvik on par with ART.

I use the camera all the time so I won't flash anything that breaks it. My personal experience with the Dalvik/bionic optimizations is that they make the phone benchmark like a beast but don't actually improve day-to-day usage at all. When I switch back to ART, there's still a noticeable difference.

I agree, especially when combined with ART. However, stock is also quite good. There is not a compelling need for a custom ROM with this device.
Cataclysm rom 4.4.2, elemental 0.21 kernel with cooler colors and swipe 2 wake/lock, twrp recovery, viper4android(on every one of my Android phones) , dalvik and bionic optimization. Just as smooth as art if not smoother. Benchmarks higher and I get to keep my xposed framework.

I'm guessing swipe2wake costs maybe an extra 2% battery per hour due to the phone not being put in deep sleep?
I'm using Cataclysm, Faux Kernel, ART, TWRP,

PA 4.2 is an Android 4.4 (kitkat) ROM. Furnace Kernel only works with JellyBean based roms. This combo will not work no matter what you do.
If you use a KitKat ROM, you need to use a KitKat kernel. If you want a JellyBean Kernel (ie Furnace Kernel), look for a JellyBean ROM.
do you have any sugestion custom kernel? Im having problem using stock PA kernel

What problems are you having with the stock PA kernel? Are you sure they are not ROM or APK bugs?
I usually stick with stock kernels and report to the dev issues I'm having. Often any issues I am having are either common issues and somebody found a solution (like using an older version of a particular APK) or are problems that are new to me (based on my config like using a govenor that is buggy with that particular ROM).
The biggest issues I have seen with things are often with the init.d scripts OR with using conflicting software (2 different CPU controllers for example).
If you are having FC's, I'd post a logcat in the forum thread along with any relevant data. If it just seems buggy, post the bugs in the forum thread along with steps to reproduce it. If it is a kitkat rom you are running, are you using DALVIK or ART? I know ART is still in testing and does not play nice with some things like xposed framework.

stock rom + root + franco kernel

Is it possible?
I've just rooted N5 and I'm using carbon KK unofficial but I have problem with play store (it gives me error if I try to download everything)...also tried to flash franco on carbon kk unofficial and I lost 3G....
So I would like to come back to stock 4.4.4 but with the root and, I don't know if it is possible, with a kernel that let me overclock, downclock, downvolt etc...Something like franco kernel but I don't know if it is possible.
any suggestion if it possible and the referement 3d?
thanks in advance
ciao
Yes it's possible. Just go in the Android development Forum and find the flashable stock rom

[Q] stable ROM 5.0 To many to chose from please help

im just looking for a stable ROM, I would like reboot with the power key, it would be great if it auto updated and let me know there is a fix, pre-rooted is all ways a + if the kernel supported fast charging that's all was a +. thanks
I would recommend cataclysm with code blue kernel. I'm running that ROM with code blue r718 and its amazing

I second the recommendation for Cataclysm. I'm running it with ElementalX kernel. It is indeed amazing.
