[Q] Xoom Installing Custom Recovery through Stock - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all! I have locked myself out of my Motorola Xoom. MZ604, US Wi-Fi Only. I am on a stock ROM. I am not rooted, or unlocked. I don't have Wi-Fi enabled currently, and Android Debugging Bridge is not enabled. I am trying to install CWM or some other custom recovery through the stock recovery so that I can access my files through AROMA. Currently, I have been unable to install any zip whatsoever though the Attached USB host drive.
The Xoom is recognizing the file contents of the USB drive, but when I go to install any zip it keeps ending at "Installation Aborted"
I have searched and searched for a way back into my Xoom. The only answer I found thus far is to do a factory reset through the Stock Recovery. I would at all costs like to avoid doing that. I never made a backup, and really don't want to lose what's on there.
Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

Hi,
Unfortunately a factory reset it definitely something good to try. As is possibly reflashing your stock firmware.
And you can't flash a custom recovery from the stock recovery, it won't work. And can you clarify what you mean by you looked yourself out? If you mean you forgot your pin for your security.... Usually a factory reset or fresh stock install are the only wants to get back up and running. That's the point of the security pin. So no one can access your data. So you must wipe to get around it.
I will have your thread moved to your device section, so the experts who own your device can assist, here...

Thank you so much for your very quick reply. I did forget my pin, which is how I locked myself out. Although, it is very unlikely that I got my pin wrong, and I suspect there is a bug or something going on here.
I definitely don't want to lose my data which is why I'm not doing a factory reset at the moment. However, I was curious what is flashable through stock recovery? I got what I believed to be an OEM stock ROM but that wouldn't install either. Is there anything specific you or anyone here could recommend which I would be able to flash in stock recovery to get me a stock reinstall without losing my data?
Any and all help and replies are great appreciated!

Your thread will be moved to your device section for other opinions.... And no, any option I know of wipes data. Again, that's the point of the added security.
Xda Assist is here to help navigate the site, not for support. ?
Thanks for understanding.

OK, thanks. I thought I was replying in the device section. If not, how do I move this thread there?
Thanks again!

You should be able to use android device manager to create a new password/pin for any android device
Just google android device manager, sign in with your google account. Waut until the device is located, the click the lock icon, this will replace your current loclscreen with a new password of your choice

[Completed] [Q] Moto X 4.4.2 rooted w/ locked bootloader, factory reset safe?

Hi, I have a republic wireless moto x I just successfully rooted and updated to 4.4.2 from 4.2.2 with a locked bootloader with no write protection (wp)
Since I updated it to 4.4.2 I have this error that pops up that I can not resolve
"Unfortunately, the process com.motorola.process.system has stopped"
I googled several pages of several website results and several pages of google but can not find the solution.
Solutions found was to:
Safe Mode (I tried this first with no apps installed on non safemode and non system apps updated, didn't work and popped up even on safe mode)
Change date & time method (didn't work)
Wipe Cache (didn't work)
Wipe Cache & dalvik cache (didn't work)
I am debating about factory reset but unsure if it will make me lose my root because I have a locked bootloader (if that matters in anyway I am still new to this, and that my moto x is from republic wireless not like other carriers with unlocked bootloaders).
Please help me and discuss with me how I can get rid of that error. Or point me to the right path.
Do you have a Custom Recovery Installed ? If not, then that would be your first Step. There's a Moto X Link in my signature that will help you install one. Once that is done, you can do factory reset from inside the Recovery. But before you boot, make sure to flash SuperUser Zip File from the Recovery.

Hello. Not sure how to answer this because I am still new to it.
I have the SafeStrap App, it says "State: Installed" above Install Recovery / Uninstall Recovery & "Safe System: Not Active" over Reboot to Recovery" version 3.65.
I do have a SafeStrap (TWRP) and have a backup but not sure if it is on 4.2.2 or 4.4.2.
If I did a recovery, which parts will it back up or all of it? Because I don't want that error to show up. It is driving me nuts.
Can you further assist me with what I replied before I do that recovery?
I see that you have already Opened another Thread on the Moto X forum.

The mission of XDA Assist is to provide basic help to those who have tried searching but can't find what they are looking for and need assistance. This is not a "helpdesk" providing technical assistance but more to point you in the correct direction with your problem. Perhaps you can't find posts on how to root your phone, install custom recovery or maybe you have questions about how to navigate and use features on the site.
Our XDA Assist team will give you links to threads/forums that are relevant to your problem. You may be pointed towards guides and instructions that can be quite complex, so you will still need to read carefully and be cautious before attempting to make software changes to your device. [Completed] Help needed from Android expert

I got a Lenovo S850 from China and it came rooted from factory. I deleted apps I shouldnt and it booted up with constant security warning. I download what I thought was the correct rom and it did not install but phone would not come on. I found a rest of world rom to install that I thought was correct but after install imei's were missing and it had nvram warning in wifi. I have fixed that issue permanently but still with any sim card it says no service and a manual search fails.
Not sure if the first rom made a mess of the partitions etc but I have no idea why etc.
Just wondering if there was an expert that could connect to my pc via team viewer and take a look at it as I can connect it via adb but no idea what else to do. I think partitions are messed as in custom recovery it will not mount anything and had to adb sideload root.zip.
I will return it under warranty if I cant sort it though they may refuse to fix if they see it has a differnt rom on etc,
Anyone help?
Thanks
Simon.
Hi,
I can't find anything for your device on XDA, so you would need to ask here and hopefully someone can help. Otherwise I suggest you contact the manufacturer for original firmware and Flashing instructions...

[Completed] help with installing my first rom just have couple question

hi id like to install the cynagenmod, so im using a samsung galaxy s2 gt i9100p its on android 4.1.2, i also had to use the galaxsim unlock to unlock the phone and wanted to know if this will effect anything and if theres anything i should be aware of before atempting to flash my phone with this rom, i also find it hard to find the easiest beginer friendly guides tbh, when i search there just seems to be so many and all with differnt ways of doing it
so can i just have some advice before starting? thx
these are the things im worried about
WARNING
Some second-generation Samsung Exynos devices are potentially susceptible to a "superbrick" caused by performing a factory reset with the stock kernel, which effectively kills the internal memory in the device. It is highly recommended you do not perform this operation while using a stock kernel for safety reasons. To make sure you aren't running the stock kernel (only needed when coming from the stock ROM), fully install CM without performing a factory reset and reboot to recovery before you perform the factory reset.
WARNING:
If you used a non-official method to remove a provider lock, your /efs partition may become corrupt! It is highly recommended you make a backup of this for safe keeping before attempting to modify your device, especially if you plan to remove such a lock.
is the galaxsim unlock what this is referring to? because i used that to unlock my phone? and the first warning is my phone a samsung Exynos, mines a galaxy s2 i9100p, so this doesnt aply to me does it?
Hi,
Please see your previous Xda Assist thread. I gave you the link to your device section there. Asking for help in your device q&a section is the way to find help.

[Completed] [Q] How to unbrick Starmobile Diamond X1

Hi guys! I accidentally bricked my phone when changing the font style. If I remember it correctly, I may have changed the path file where-in the changes will be applied for the font style, and after I rebooted the phone it is just stuck on the startup screen.
I already tried factory resetting the phone, but I dont have CWM or even TWRP recovery if there is for this kind of phone.
I can only access recovery mode but haven't tried the factory mode yet. Will try to install CWM later.
Is there any chance that it may work again if I flash a ROM even though I am still using the original ROM?
Any other methods that I can try?
Thanks!
Hi,
You could try a rom, but you'd need a custom recovery for that, usually. Or flash the factory firmware again. I can't find anything relevant on XDA for factory files tho. So you can ask here, or contact the manufacturer...

[Completed] Arnova 10cG3 softbricked, dont know how to recover

I have been searching for answer over 10 days, but still can't figure out how to resolve this. I don't how exactly it bricked, it just couldn't start anymore. I can get into recovery menu, but there isn't any option to recover android. It was rooted before, and worked normally. I cant find any other way to flash any rom on it. I appreciate any help on this matter, tnx in advance!

Hello, and welcome to XDA Assist!

What seems confusing is that there may be some Arnova's made by Archos. Archos has a forum, but sadly, Arnova does not (not finding much about your device either).
At any rate, try the thread/forum above, and be patient with regard to a response. This seems to be a rare device, so it would be harder to get the attention you need.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
The other way
I understood that the complete system is wiped out. I can use adb while its in recovery menu. I used it to transfer official system image onto it, but in its options i cant find it. I transferred it to multiple locations, all of them can be seen in recovery menu but all are empty. I wonder if there is a way to flash some other android version on it? Or some ROM like CWM, but apparently there are no official releases. And since i am not very good at this i wonder how to make sure that kernel is OK? Can such thing be done? It has Android system recovery <3e>

CWM is a recovery, not a ROM, but can be used to flash ROMs.
With 3e, you should be able to flash the stock ROM for the device via adb (called side loading). So that may work for you.
Hope this helps.
