[Q] Nested quotes? - General Topics

Hey guys,
I keep running into this same issue over and over, so I was hoping someone can suggest a workaround or a fix:
When I'm trying to quote a post, which already has a quote of another post in it the site only keeps the last post i'm quoting, and removes the internal quote that post has in it. For all intents and purposes this doesnt work for me, because without keeping the original, nested quote my post loses it's meaning and it's impossible to tell what I'm talking about.
Does anyone know how I can fix this to allow nested quotes in my posts? Thanks in advance.

You can nest quotes with this forum's software, but you have to do it manually, which makes it a bit tedious. Easiest way is to open a new window/tab quoting the original post, copy it, then quote the second post that quotes the original post, and paste the original quote within the second quote. You'll have to move the [/quote] of the first quote to the end.
Replace {} with [], and
{quote=first post}blah blah blah{quote=second post}blah blah blah
{/quote}{/quote}
will give you
first post said:
blah blah blah
second post said:
blah blah blah

Seems painful, and I wish XDA forum had that feature built-in....A lot of other of forums do, kind of surprising that the biggest nerdvanna on the net doesnt. I guess your suggestion is still better than nothing though, when you really need to keep the original quote, thanks. I think I got it down

Adding a post as your signature?!?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to use someone's post as my signature? I saw the funniest post I had seen in a while, but cant figure out how to have it display in my sig. All of my attempts have either not worked or just show the link. Thank you for any help!
Why not just quote the content of the post? I believe you can use the same markup as when you're replying and quoting a post.

[Q] HTC Sensation APN delete

I tried posting this in the actual thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691633 but Im too new here and had to post in the general area. I need to know how to do this. I know a little about rooting and stuff but most of the lingo here is greek to me. Does my phone have to be rooted to do this APN delete? Can anybody post for me the procedure in the exact order they are to be done? Sorry for being so ignorant on this matter. Thanks in advance

I think you're going to have to be rooted, yes. I think that because this requires writing information to the system partition of the phone. And you're not going to be able to do that without root access.
Also, I don't think this works anymore anyway. If I'm not mistaken, and I might be, T Mobile got wise to this workaround and it's not effective anymore. The latest post in that thread says as much.

This app is unlikely to work with ICS or JB ROM's without root access. Starting with ICS Android no longer allows access to write APN data without root. And you'll notice this app hasn't been updated since 2011, so it's not been configured to ICS/JB at all.
The app also has absolutely nothing to do with hugh jass's (HAHAHAHA!!!! Fantastic user name) question anyway, as this app just backs up and restores APN's with a few options along the way. The original post was referring to a specific APN modification that would bypass T Mobile's ability to determine if you are tethering. This app wouldn't do that.

And as I write this comment I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 3 I'm about to use this app with ...
83% of my phones are T-Mobile, I'm a simple mobile service dealer / (a Unlimited T-Mobile service at a better price) ...
So not sure but it works for me on a weekly basis and I thought Id share what helps me ....

You asked a question. I answered it for you with the most likely correct answer.
There was nothing rude about it.
That was funny! (Come on...that gambler/risk taker line was killer!) But it wasn't rude.
Come to think of it, none of my posts in this thread are rude. They simply disagree with you. People are allowed to disagree with you without being considered 'rude'. That's just me letting MY info out, same as anyone else on this forum.

You are calling me an ass grabber and suggesting that I am the one who's being rude? Sorry, that does not compute.
Look, brother. No one has told you that you're wrong about anything. I said that I didn't think that app you are talking about would 1) work on ICS and that 2) it woudln't help with what the OP is looking to do. Giving alternate advice to the OP is not being rude. It's being helpful.
The forum certainly didn't need you to create a new thread just to ask if that app works on ICS/JB or not in your attempt to try and prove some point about how much you know about stuff. If you think the app works, great. I hope it does! I didn't (and still don't) think it will work on a stock unrooted ICS rom. I can be wrong. I'm wrong all the time. Ask my wife, she'll tell you all about it! But I'm not prohibited from kindly expressing my opinions here anymore than you are. And just because someone's opinion differs from yours doesn't mean that they are wrong or that it's rude for them to express their differing opinion.
Also, no one really appreciates getting nasty private messages from someone. So please stop sending them. They are no longer being read anyway.

[Q] Captchas

Every time I try to respond or post to this forum, I am prompted for a Captcha. Is this normal? I have very bad vision (200/800) in my left eye. It took me like 10 minutes to post my first thread because I can't see to get past it! In addition using the audio sucks horribly. You can hear what is said. Can anyone help me with this? Does this go away after a certain amount of posts?
hello dear!
just use firefox and install the
"webvisum" add-on
it is works only in firefox
you can send any site image to read and
they will send the code and
just paste in to the filled
thats all
If you have reach the minimum post the captcha automatically remove by it self.
yeah i believe it goes away after getting 10 posts.
In my opinion it is really hard to read the captcha and fill it in correctly without listening to it. And the audio even worse. I don't understand a word
Its normal
Above are horrible and most have not read.

There is a delay between your 10th post and having your account blessed. Usually it is less then an hour before the system blesses your account by changing your permissions. If it takes longer than a few hours you can post your issue into this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976627
Make sure to mention that you have waited a few hours before posting.
Thanks for the info, I have exactly the same problem (dyslexic so captcha's are hard)

How can you tell who thanked you on XDA?

As the title states, how can you tell who said thanks besides the thanks showing "This person said thanks"
Is there a stat or chart or tally in your profile? I can't see it.

The only thing you can do is go to your profile, click find all thanked posts, and visit each post that was thanked. Then under that post, click the view who thanked this post or expand, depending on which theme you are using. In Chrome mobile on the 2015 theme, you must switch to desktop view before you can view the thanks.
Hope this helps!

Depends on whether you're viewing the forum in a browser or in an app.
When viewing in a browser, veiwing who thanked you might depend on which XDA theme you're using.
When viewing in an app, it depends on which app you're using.
I use Tapatalk app, when someone thanks me, it puts a heart with a number below my post, the number represents how many thanks that post has received, if I tap the heart symbol, it shows me who thanked me.
When I view the forum in a browser, below my posts, it says "the following users thanked this post", if I tap that, it shows who thanked the post and the date they thanked it.

PS: I wasn't referring to the Thanked by button, I was referring to the history of thanks.
Sometimes you may be in several threads all at once and your thanks meter will raise, and without going through the posts you wouldn't know. It's in stats tho.
Not sure you can see it on an app

Wasn't there a thread created a few years ago by a member here that had a description of how to do various things at XDA and was made a sticky thread? Things like how to use the search feature, how to create signatures, how to use bb code here and such? If I remember correctly, didn't you have it linked in your signature at one point? I'm thinking that user also created another thread with information about how to use the member profile page and its options?
