I thank you for your time to send me your feedback. So I will take it as it works great on your side. If you have new ideas and want them implemented, let me know.
Great tool! I think it is useful to me and thanks a lot.
Works great !!
But it doesn´t remember my setup, if i remove "random" next time you start your phone you must do this again !

Hi jonas, can you please describe exactly the steps you do that doesn't work? Because I tested several times here on mine and cannot get this case. Note that "SaveSettings" will be called whenever you close the application (pressing "X" but holding pressed for a short while) or exit from the main menu. Is not called if you smart minimize it (if you just press "X", and the app is still running in the background). Hope this helps you.

Thank you jonas ...
I understand now your scenario. I really think that windows mobile doesn't do a "clean closing" of the applications, otherwise the application would have call ed internally "SaveSettings"...
In any case, I will investigate this and will fix it in the next version.
Good!
I will test it!

It works ! You must as you say, close the app once to save config., not just start it upp and close your phone.
Anyway there may be a version that works with Omnia?
yes please....
Is this possible...res is 240*400. I have been looking for something like this for a while.
With Titanium, this kind of app makes very good sense.
Hello guys... those with omnia phones...
I can adjust WPChanger application for Omnia, but I need more information since I don't have such a mobile. What I need first is to detect the registry key and value of the wallpaper.
Can you do that for me? Thank you.

For example... HTC registry key and value are: "Software\HTC\Manila", ;"HomeBackgroundPath". Of course this is the place where the pre-installed TouchFlo3D application on HTC keeps the wallpaper settings.
Try to find it out for Omnia and drop me a line here... Thank you.
well its for just the main today screen...i know that thru that reg it will modify that.
but not everybody runnning Manila (i do ).
Didnt realise that you did this thru Manila, i assumed it would be thru windows. Can you not make it so? i tried to look for a today registry with no luck, and a lot of other places. So i am stuck.
If not, i may have to make it, oh and learn how to do it also
Thanks
Autowipe is back!
Greetings all,
As most of you probably know, Froyo (2.2) includes new phone wiping abilities. I've been working on an app to take advantage of this new feature and I'm excited to let others see it.
Unfortunately for me, I do not have a Froyo Phone! I am looking for some of you very nice people with N1s or Droids that have 2.2 installed to help me out with testing, as the Emulator can only go so far. Most importantly, I'm interested in seeing if the "Subscriber Id changed" action works when removing/changing SIM cards.
Quick description: Android 2.2 (Froyo)+ includes a new administrator feature. The administrator must be enabled by the user before it can perform its actions. This application focuses on the memory wipe feature of the administrator. If your device gets lost or stolen you can set up this application to automatically wipe the memory in the following conditions: failed passwords to unlock screen, SMS password received, subscriber ID changed (SIM card).
Screenshots and APK attached below.
Thank you very much!
Update 05 March 2011:
* Integrated a Test Mode into the app.
Don't mean to be a downer or anything but isn't this what Mobile Defense and WaveSecure do already?

I don't think that those two programs are updated to work with the admin froyo settings, it's actually what is trying to accomplish.

But neither of those apps are free or are supported outside the US as far as I know.

You can at least set WaveSecure as admin, don't know about Mobile Defense. But still, keep up the work!
i really like this app bro. So when you say wipe, does it restore factory settings? or does it literally wipe everything so that u have to restore via adb or something?
Indeed, my intention is to release it as a free app on the Market to all locations.

Thanks for the compliments. According to the documentation it never specifically says "factory reset" but I'd guess that is what it is doing: Ask the user data be wiped. This will cause the device to reboot, erasing all user data while next booting up.

now that would be nice.... both phone and SD at that. That way if you get someone smart enough to track down how to bring up the bootloader and restoral menus, they won't have anything to work from....
Any update in this project? its really promising. A free alternative to only payed remote wiping software on market.
Keep up the good work bro.
This is an excellent alternative, eh?
Can you please give us a version with "SIM"?
Thanks.

Hello all, sorry I was away for a bit there. Good news, I've just posted a release to the Android Market. I will update the original post shortly.
Search for Autowipe on the market if you can. Feedback would be great! (This version WIPES, it's armed!)
Good work!
Please hide the sms password with ***, add a cursor and perhaps a confirmation with "password set" or something like this.
And most important a test mode would be great. No idea how to test it without wiping hehe

Thanks. I'll add those too, good ideas. I was thinking if you forgot your password you could check back and see it but I suppose you could just delete the asterisks and make a new one.
Thanks again!

You're welcome. When you need your password and forgot it, it's probably too late anyway hehe
I've posted an update with some of the changes requested. The test mode is a taller order so I haven't been able to do that yet.

From the 2.2 Highlights:
Device policy manager
New device policy management APIs allow developers to write "device administrator" applications that can control security features on the device, such as the minimum password strength, data wipe, and so on. Users can select the administrators that are enabled on their devices.

Pretty exciting!
As usual I still don't have an actual 2.2 device so please let me know if I did anything silly, like forget to let you enable the app or something
love it.......
ty for ur hard work
Thank you for contributing, one request. Sdcard wipe too...if someone is smart enough they can restore my phone with a nandroid after it's wiped....if it's a smart thief that is
Sorry if I'm suspicious about all this but with would you need network access for your app?
Hi to all,XDA developers !
i'm curious to make app that will not be seen by user in his/her mobile.. that would start on Boot. and will not be visible in android uninstall list as well !!
need help of you guys...
Regards,
Piyush
If you install it in /system/app/
it shouldn't be visible in 3rd party uninstallers.
If you use Settings->Applications->Manage it's still visible.
how to hide it in "If you use Settings->Applications->Manage " ?
any trick ?
Are you trying to write some kind of malware?

Not that intention ! want to us it for 1app.
This seems pretty shady. I don't see why you would need to hide the application from the user's Application List.
...and you want it to run on boot? Hmm...
malware .. spyware .. **** lol ..
nope... ne idea ?
i got solution.....
How did you manage it?
I have an App which I'm wanting to do the same with (LocatorPro - to find phone if stolen)

Regardless of what you intended on producing...I don't understand why NOBODY has actually given you a proper answer.
I think you asked a critically smart question...as I am a new member...I joined this forum ONLY because I was looking for the answer to this question.
I am not a developer (even though I would love to learn)... but I need to know how to discreetly add apps.
The Story:
I have installed a spy app on another phone of mine. (SmsBox)
I need to hide that software completley from the list of apps AND from the "Manage Applications" list in the settings.
I want it to run in the background constantly and do what it already does.
IF someone has a solution for me...(or gets an idea on producing a new app with this feature)...please let me know.
(Since I don't know how often I will be visiting this site...Please email me at : [email protected]
Thanks!
I found this thread also looking for some way to hide (maybe disguise and lock) locator apps.
I think it would be really useful to hide anti thieves apps. They're almost useless if anybody can just take a look at the apps list and throw em away.
I've been looking for an app with that feature (among others) with no luck (Watchdroid the closest, but can be removed along its disguise and password protection).
So... any advice?
Thanks
You could write a text-mode application and just compile as a bare executable (not an apk). Just add that to your startup script (does android use init.d?), and it will be invisible to most people. You'll need root, most likely. (might be able to push over adb, then run via shell. Not sure what the permissions are on some things).

Avast anti-theft can be hidden from launcher, disguised in settings and survive a factory default wipe on a rooted phone.
looks like the start of something good and promising....

well.. the post just points back to XDA
here is the tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021135
And what exactly does this mean? Is it the same as superuser access on Android? (Sorry, new to WP7)
It is a registry viewer/editor that allows you to edit restricted registry entries.
Oh and it works pretty well.
M
in the end when the app is done it will be really nice to be able to tweak things for speed, we shall see where this app takes us and what it means
It has already helped me out a lot. Got the "never" option to show up for the lockscreen so that I can keep my phone on, charging, and keep the wifi going to update all my emails, etc. Awesome tool...many thanks to Heathcliff

Not sure if many know of this app, it was shown to me a while back, thought it deserved a share.
Its called CatLog and it works pretty nice to take a logcat, it has some pretty nice options like being able to clear the log before you want to start and pausing it. This is makes it very easy to get a logcat to a dev when your on the go
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nolanlawson.logcat&hl=en
Thanks. But i heard its not very dependable. I've used it b4 & it tends to froze & fc. Nver used it since. Don't know if they already update it & fix all the bugs. So did u try it & how was it?? If its ok then i might giv it a try again.

Never had any F/c's or freezes, Ive been using steady for about 4 months now and during this time I have no complaints !
can someone tell me how to disable logcat completely (unload the execution not just delete the main file) and how to re-enable it , or is it enough to delete /dev/log/main and recopying it to enable it?
