You should provide detailed information of your problem. It depend on hardware of your device. To check - go to brightness setting of your main android setting and change it to maximum. Also, you may have forget to use brightness gesture in mx player. slide it up and you will get maximum brightness.

The mx player ignores my phones brightness settung. ... whether it's dim or max. ..
It uses its own.
Even when slide up to maximum on mxplayer. ... It's way way dimmer than my phones maximum brightness.

First of all I request you to report in the proper way in future.
By default, MX Player uses it's own brightness control only on playback. It follows your system brightness on all other screens like video list, settings, etc.
On playback screen it uses per window brightness control system provided by standard android api. If it's not working either there might be a bug in your system or some invise application like brightness control / power saver / any other overlaying widgets / call recorders / dialers may always run on the top of all other apps.
So, even if you change the brightness on mx, it won't reflect since the android will follow the brightess settings of the top most window
If you wish mx to use the system brightness, Goto Settings 》Player 》Screen & Disable Brightness settings. After disabling system brightness will be used all over the mx player.

Apologies. ...
I think that has worked. ...
Thank you.

I thought this had resolved the issue but I have resigned myself to the fact that it was a placebo effect. ..
In hindsight there is a tiny (If any) difference. ....
My system brightness at max is really bright but doesn't seem to get reflected on mx player (not that max brightness is any good)....
Please help.

As I have already told earlier, any invisible app can cause issue.
Go to application manager & force stop all applications installed by you. Goto running tab & ensure there is no user app is running.
Now Open MX Player & try again.

[Feature Request] Lock Screen Control Please

Many users (including me) use MX Player in background mode (when driving or working). In this case, lock screen control (lock screen widget for video & audio) is urgent. And shows lock screen media control when video or audio is paused or stopped. Implement this feature please.

Thanks for suggestion. We will consider adding this feature.
Please release the widget for audio controls separately first if possible as many if us use MX player to play audio too.
Thanks INA advance

Why do you need widget when it's still possible to control in notifications?
I think it's better & efficient way to control.

The ability to control playback on the lock screen is still unavailable. This is the reason why I don't use this player to listen to music outside the home - take your smartphone out of your pocket, double-tap on the screen (to turn it on without unlocking) and pause playback, or switch to the next track is much easier than unlocking your smartphone with a password, open the notification panel, and control the playback from there.

Can I control whether or not to use multi-window?

In Playstore, some apps have introduction videos. For example, Jump Desktop. When I pressed the play button, multi-window was activated and the video was played on the right window. In this case, I would rather had the video being played full-screen. Can we do that without manually adjusting the size of the window?

Go to: Settings - Device - Multi window, and disable "Open in multiwindow view"
After that you can still use multi window, but those windows are not open automatically.
Also while in there you may want go to notification panel settings and make sure that the multi window toggle is in the quick settings panel rather than the available buttons section. That way you can toggle easily by bringing the notification shade down and panning left or right to find the toggle for times when you want to disable it altogether.
I usually keep the open in window on and use the toggle. I'm less annoyed by the feature i guess. I like it in play store when opening video samples of applications where while playing the developer's video I can read reviews or other info.

Sometimes I like to use the device in portrait mode. When I clicked on an introduction video from Play Store, a 2nd window was opened but the orientation of the video was in landscape mode. I had to rotate the device to watch the video. How come the video's orientation was not adjusted accordingly based on the orientation of the device?
Yeah there is no way to control that. I think the way samsung coded the launch action it doesn't check for orientation and adjust accordingly.
Is there a way to make suggestions to Samsung App developers?

Impossible to see notification area controls

I've got an android hauwei p8 lite and have mx player set to play in the background.
The big problem is that the very dark controls of the player controls when viewed in the drop down notification area can't be seen as the notification area itself is very dark by default.
I have tried various settings in the player and inversed some colors but nothing so far is changing those controls which really can't be seen.. Has anyone got any ideas what I can change and I've attached a screen shot showing what I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, would you share screen capture of the notification area with background play control?

Everything looks normal on logs.
Brightness value has changed from 0.5 to 0.42. Based on your devices possible brightness, it is the intended value for 10 -> 9.

From 1.9.12, MX Player uses min brightness value from the system. As a result, in most of the devices, it can reduce up to a low level than earlier. As the total range of brightness scale has increased, when you compare with 1.9.11, there could be slightly more changes on each step.
From 1.9.13 - 17(latest), it will be same.

The changes from the main version is not yet merged to online version. Once it's merged, It will be same.
Regarding custom codecs, currently it's removed due to the compatibility issues. As it's tends to change a lot, using the custom codec compiled for main version could cause compatibility issues. We will bring back it, once the online beta version is stabilized.

3rd party apps lack of 90Hz support

I've been finding that some 3rd party apps lack 90Hz support. Most disappointing of which is Samsung Browser. I would think that screen refresh rate is independent of apps but obviously the phone is detecting something with these apps and saying "I should render this at 60Hz". Has anyone found a workaround? I'd love to use Samsung Browser but it's hard to go back to 60Hz. /firstworldproblems

apps do not have to do with the refresh rate. Perhaps they have low frames per second which could be improved by disabling ads or some other tweaks

Wrong. Apps do need to add support to show 90 frames.

I wouldn't say so. Might apply to some games. But not to standard apps at all.
The only apps that need support are games

Sorry If that was misleading. App developers need to optimize the app so It calculates every frame faster so it has time to show 90 fps on 90hz displays.

You said I was wrong and then supported my point. I also said frames could be improved but not refresh rate, which is a different thing. Apps display as a chain of images per secods. which is FPS. Refresh rate (Hertz) is a mechanical function of display that dictates how many times it refreshes a what ever is on the screen, image video, just single picture etc.. regardlessly if app has good or bad Frames.
You can look at a single picture at 60 or 90Hz but not at 60 or 90 fps because its just one image or one frame. Reading is a big tool

This is wrong. A poorly performing app and screen refresh rate are completely independent of each other. With this phone, the entire screen is switching to 60Hz with some third party apps. This makes the app less smooth as well as the OS in general (e.g. pulling down the status bar to view notifications). I really hope OnePlus fixes this soon, as it defeats the purpose of having a 90Hz display if it keeps switching to 60Hz.

There is nothing that developers of standard apps that use standard framework (not NDK) can do as there is no public API for that at all.
There is abstraction layer and apps do not need to deal with things related to physical capabilities of the screen, such as display refresh rate.
OnePlus already uses some auto switching logic for refresh rate, e.g. during video playback. The thing is their implementation is currently not perfect as they seem to be switching
to 60Hz even for videos not playing in fullscreen mode. So e.g. when you scroll FB and video comes into view, screen switches to 60Hz which is not OK (the same applies to web packages with embedded video).
