Android Navigation bar - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
Today i bought a Huawei P7 Telephone. The phone itself seems to work realy good but there are 2 anoying features i would like to fix.
As ive always had an samsung telephone im used to have my navigation keys below the display, after following an topic on this forum i managed it to make it disappear. Which is prety nice, so the display looks a bit bigger.
This was done by changing an registery setting, in the database of the phone (Hide_actionbar 1)
Now i come to the second point where i cant find an solution for.
I am used to have my return key on the right side and me menu button on the left side in the navigation bar, atleast all samsung phones have this as far as i know.
Huawei has the opposide, return key is left and menu key (or window key) is on the right.
Is there any posible option to change this?
So this is what i want:

ButtonRemapper, Nandroidbackup?
Hello,
Thank you for your post, i think this should be the right way to make the change, i just dont fully understand how to do it.
First of all i downloaded some remap software (ButtonRemapper) and tried to change the settings.
For example the software i tried and the link you gave me tells me that 139 = menu / 158 = back
I tried to change 139 = back.
Every time i reboot my phone to achieve change, the settings seemed to be resetted and not working at al. What am i doing wrong?
Besides that every tutorial and forum i read tells me users should make a Nandroid backup.
Internet tells me, i need some kind of extra ROM for this for better recovery options (Programs for should be CWM or TWRP)
My question is, is this realy necessary. I mean i check my current boot menu of the phone, and it seems to have an default factory reset option on it? Is this not good enough?
For extra information:
-Yesterday i have rooted my telephone, atleast i used some software which told me my phone was rooted and i got an extra application called Kinguser.
I did this because i wanted the navigation menu to dissapear. So the root itself seems to be fine.

ok .. lets fix that
i'll write you a reply in less than 20 minutes
---------- Post added at 11:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:42 AM ----------
in this method we won't be using ButtonRemapper app
1 • download a root browser (root browser or es file explorer)
2 • navigate to /system/usr/keylayout
3 • you will find a file named (Generic.kl) open it
4 • scroll down to "key 139 MENU WAKE_DROPPED" and type BACK instead of MENU
5 • scroll down to "key 158 BACK WAKE_DROPPED" and type MENU instead of BACK
6 • save the file and exit it
7 • open the file called (sec_touchkey.kl) in the same directory
8 • then type MENU instead of BACK ,, and BACK instead of MENU
9 • save the file and restart your phone
I've just tried that on my (gt-i9300 cyanogenmod11) and it's working .. i think it will work for you either
and for the second question :
even if your boot menu (aka recovery) offers a factory reset,, it doesn't help you at all !!
because a factory reset doesn't fix the system partition if something wrong happend
- so you should flash a custom recovery such as (CWM or TWRP as you said) and make a NANDROID backup > i prefer TWRP
and if you don't know how to do that i'll be pleased to help you

deleting locked programs in the program menu

i just got my new touch pro after having an xv6800 and love the new phone and im doing pretty well as far as making custom changes, but my question is how and or were do i go to remove or delete the lock programs in the program menu, so i can add my own.
thanks chris
as far as I know you can't. If you are looking to remove the bloatware(Stock Stuff) you can do a search for it.

Thanks for the help, ill do a search for bloatware,
as you said you prolby cant do it, in that case is thier an application were i can atleast add to the program list, since the program list is know full
Thanks Chris
If you are asking about the programs on the start menu do the following: Press Start > Settings > Menu. Remove the check marks from the programs you no longer want on the menu. Add a check mark to the ones you want on the menu.

that means u want to re-map your softkeys ... google and use software called "Advance Config" to re-map your "Program" and also to check the destination where the "Program" leads you to
i actually had that program all ready on my phone, i opened up the program and "restore all settings" and still when im on the home screen and click on programs on the bottom right corner it still brings up the TF3d menu then goes back to the home screen.
were do i go in ether advance config or my reg editor, to see were the program button might be launching to.
Thanks for your help i really appreciate it, i really don't want to reset my phone back to the way it was when i first bought it

[Q] How to make Explorer work on Win CE 6 RNS?

Hi,
i use a RNS named Blaupunkt New York 800. It´s running Windows CE 6. When i access the windows through a startscript i can´t run the Explorer.exe.
Also when i try to run any software where i have to set a directory there only shows up a white frame with nothing in it. No folders or files are shown.
Is there a chance to make the existing explorer.exe work?

If you tell me how you are able to "access windows through a script" I may be able to help you as I have a different brand that runs the same code as your system (your system is a re-branded advuv630). If you tell me how you are accessing it I can get it to work for you. I have a decrypted firmware for that system and its almost exactly the same as the advuv630. So I can probly use the same method you are using to access and get something working for you.
--thesh0ck
Edit: Its General and DVD-Rating on the advuv630, not general and bluetooth as I stated below. So try that first.
Go to settings menu, hit the following butons alterativly 6x (twelve total presses) General -> Blueooth -> General -> Bluetooth etc...
This will take to to the system menu.... where you can disable the requirement to have the parking brake on to watch movies and other things, I wouldnt change much other than that here.
This is what you want though:
You can also press time and volume in the same sequence and you will get right into the wince start menu screen with no hacks required. Its built into the unit.
If time and volume dont work, try all of the combinations (it will only take a few mins to try them all), one will work. Select two of the top row settings buttons and go back and forth hitting them 6x each till you find it.
Hope this helps. I just foind these two hidden options the other day....
Hi there, ho to disable the requirement to have the parking brake on to watch movies??? Is it on "brake override" menu?

[Q] button remap?

Is it possible to remap the menu button on the verizon s 3 to multitasking?
I'm going to think your going to have to be rooted, and maybe change something in the build prop.
Apex launcher let's customize buttons in the settings.. Just download it from the play store!

Check out this thread. This app remaps home button but on the app Page in play store the same dev also has an app that remaps other buttons if I'm not mistaken.
Hope this helps.

Yes, its possible, I have my buttons totally remapped with:
Menu button - Home/Multitasking
Home button - Menu/whatever holding it down does
Back - Back
I also made it so that the home button doesn't wake the phone as well.
In a couple days (or whenever i have time really) im gonna put a guide together how to do this in detail (i havent seen an extensive one yet).
BEFORE DOING THIS, BACK UP EVERYTHING!!! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS OR MISHAPS.
Also, you need root for your phone to mount the system as writable.
NOTE when i first did this, i only changed one at a time, and made the mistake as not having a Menu button (i had two home buttons and a back button) which proved tricky to find a way around. Just be very careful!
In short, modify the files sec_touchkey.kl and sec_keys.kl within ES File Explorer or Root Explorer under ~/system/usr/keylayout/ . As soon as you edit these and save them, the App will automatically create a sec_touchkey.kl.bak or sec_keys.kl.bak file next to your modified file. After an edit, you'll need to reboot your phone for the changes to be in effect.
I would advise to look at these files in detail before mounting the system as writable, to avoid mistakes.
Good luck!!

Nice! So it's possible to map the menu key to "open apps" after all? I tried messing with those files awhile ago but couldn't get the menu remapped to recent apps and hold home for menu.
I've looked all over, and tried a lot of things, and its proving more difficult than i had thought to simply remap menu longpress to recent apps, and home longpress to menu.
I tried lots of things such as switching around the order, adding "APP_SWITCH" After HOME, and "RECENT" after HOME.
It seems to me there is no command that would readily do this.
In order to do this, I'll have to dig and find where the command "HOME" actually is, take out the recent apps section from that, and add it to the location of the "MENU" command.
However, if you don't mind using the Menu button as a home button (for now), and the home button as a menu button, its as simple as switching HOME and MENU within the sec_touchkey.kl file (then rebooting).

Try downloading nova launcher. You can remap the keys inside its settings. I used it to set the home key to google voice search.

Good find! thanks for that. This seems to be a good app, however it is not working the way i want it to. I have Nova launcher pro installed, and the ported version of Google Now. I wanted to map the double press to launch Google now, but could not make it work. I could remap anything else though, so this is a good app to have.

I as well have Nova Prime. I could remap the home button, but not the double tap on home button. (maybe this will help someone else out as well)

Soft Keys not Working

Hello,
Last week my phone went off because the battery was drained to 0.
Then next morning I connected the phone to my car's charger and when I turned it on, I figured that the soft keys are not working anymore.
I have tried multiple methods like clearing cache, factory reset (through Settings and Recovery), but none of that worked.
I am running the latest stock firmware (5.1.1 U2COH2).
Did this happen to any of you before? Is there an app that allows me to reconfigure the keys? Could this be a hardware issue?
I appreciate your response.
If you are rooted, you could try reflashing the kernel. Works fir me. Sprint variant
I'm not rooted. I believe it's a hardware issue, unless somebody else has a different opinion.
i have the same problem on the recent app softkey (left botton) . i made all kind of reset, but nothing change, sometime i have a "crazy" soft button that start to work like a spirit! or stop to work.
i tried also "safe mode" and a little less, but same (random) problem!
The only way, i find, before to go to assistance (or to put in the garbage!!!) is to disable the softkey.
i find this on xda:
Use a root explorer (I used X-plore with root enabled).
Go to
/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
Backup file Generic.kl ( copy it as a .bk or something )
Then open the file Generic.kl using the text editor within X-plore.
Then find the word APP_SWITCH linking with the code number (mine is key 254), change APP_SWITCH to MENU. Then reboot and your are done. The Recent Apps button is now back to being a Menu button. Life is great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/how-to-remap-buttons-t3084638/page4
put"#" before key 254 and the key stop to exist, and stop to crash my balls
if someone has a different way to fix is wellcome for me.
thanks!

HTC 10 split screen options

First, please forgive me if there's a sub thread for this phone. I didn't find it, and the help saying use the device forum went back to the menu where I already didn't find it. ?
My issue is that my HTC 10 suddenly decided that every press of the overview button will now activate split screen, not just long press. I remember when I first turned this function on there was an option did I want it to activate split screen on normal press or long press, but now I've spent two days on Google and cannot find this option! I can't seem to turn the function on or off as the help pages refer to menus I do not have. (Device and Multi window - they aren't there!!) and other help only tells me that long press should be working. I've had no updates since it was last working normally.
Please, anyone know where this option is hidden?

Go to your application manager and find the app(s) that control split screen and clear data and wipe cache.

Any ideas what I'm looking for? I had a scroll through and nothing jumped out at me to be the service the controls this feature. Then again, they have names that aren't particularly intuitive.
Update - Looks like I found it, thanks. I cleared out system UI and it's normal again. Still odd that the option vanished, it was definitely an easy menu.
