Is your phone in warranty?
can you give us some basic information? such like rom & kernel version, wether you rooted and ade using cputuningtools or something like that.
if you are under stock rom(original samsung & all further updates over kies) and u have done nothing unnormally so far i would recommend use the warranty too; )

I had the same issue. I got my touch panel replaced by the Samsung guys. That's why I was asking whether your phone is under warranty or not.

Here we go, this proves this has nothing to with CM9, this guy is on stock.
Many people are blaming CM9 for this and claiming it caused the problem.
It's a hardware defect.

Agree. :good:
I'll wait for a few weeks or till the phone is usable for the kernel 3.0. :fingers-crossed:
If not then no other option but create a Rs.5000 hole in my pocket. :crying:
Same case with me... Bought the i9003 March 2011.
I'm on DDKP3 and around the same time as the OP, my touchscreen started to act strange... responsive only when charger is plugged in. Tried factory reset, but problem came back after some hours!
If this is a product-wide issue, then I guess sammy should replace it for free, even if it's out of warranty... too busy to go to the nearest service cenrter, will check later.
Till then, please keep me updated how it goes for you.
---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------
Just wondering, if a reflash of DDKP3 via ODIN or any custom ROM would solve the issue... please suggest.
I guess the sensitivity settings (or something like that) has changed without you knowing. Don't know if it is the same as s2 but in s2, sensitivity of the phone not plugged in the charger and plugged in has different settings. So maybe the settings for it in your case (unplugged) has changed but not on the plugged in settings. It's all in the kernel btw.

Maybe asking a kernel dev if the values changed or what not. If i'm correct then it's a software problem, if not then maybe a hardware problem.

Same problem!!!
It happened last week when my phone surprisingly started showing this problem. After unlocking the phone the screen becomes unresponsive. In my case it is just 1-2 secs after unlocking the phone.
It lasted for a day, I tried flashing different ROMs. I was on XXKPE when it happened. And than suddenly my phone started working fine until yesterday when this thing again happened and the problem still persists (I am still on KPE). I dont know what to do.
I think it can be some software problem as the screen and touch keys do work for some time before becoming unresponsive and even the logcat shows no problems for the touch screen. I am going to try more ROMs now. Will keep you posted.
Possible solution !!!
Friends, I think I found a possible solution for this issue. Though it seems to work for me... I have to keep the phone under observation for some days until I can say it's the final solution.
A similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695149
The possible cause for the touch screen going unresponsive seems not to be a hardware/software glitch; but environmental issue! And it doesn't depend on the ROM your'e running.
I noticed that most people from India having this issue say that this problem started in June, when the rainy season starts and it gets humid and damp.
In fact my phone showed this issue when it had rained for the last 2 days and it was very damp and humid inside the house.
You can do the following:
1. Take out the back cover, memory card, SIM and battery.
2. Place the backside of the phone near a hot air source (on top of a running CRT TV/monitor, hairdryer, laptop fan vent) for sometime.
3. Reassemble and check if the problem has gone away.
Do not panic if the handset gets a bit hot in the process!
In my case, I left it on the top grille of a CRT TV for a day which ran for 8hrs.
Do let me know if this works for you...
Flashing the ROM does not solve the problem

Thanks to agnivo007.
I guess the climate is the only reason. I used his method to heat up my phone a little bit by charging it enough. Than it started working fine. No problems since then. Lets see.

No Brick just ... Screen replacement....
Thanks. I have been stressing so hard on trying to figure it out. I was afraid of buying a screen and wasting my money. And bricking it was the closest thing I could find to a solution. Thanks again for the help. And I wasn't rooting or flashing it or anything.

[Q] Screen went black (didn't turn off)

So I was surfing some forums earlier this morning when my, 3 day old, Galaxy Note 10.1 screen went dark. Not a full black like when the screen is off, though I thought it was at first. But it wasn't completely off which I found out when I hit the power button to turn the screen back on. It turned it off. Anyways, when I turned it back on I was notified that the Wifi also went out. Maybe it had something to do with that?
I took it as a sign to go to sleep since I was staying up way too late playing with my new tablet. So I haven't messed with it since. I'll come back to post more in this thread if it happens again - especially if no one else seems to know what the problem is.
Anyone have any thoughts?
My screens does that too.. No big deal to me as long as its working..

And it's not like a screen dimming when the backlight turns off, seconds before the screen actually does turn off. Same experience for you?

Only happens in the stock browser for me. Maybe once a day.

Any one find a fix for this? It happens a few times a day for me. Hitting the power button twice gets me back but usually happens in the middle of taking notes in class so is annoying to take an extra few seconds to get it back up. Maybe a kernel thing?? I've tried resetting a few times with no luck
It's the sleep-of-death, which happens most often after an Android update. I had issues with it occurring regularly after updating to JB. I traced my problem down to an app that worked well under ICS but caused JB to crash. Once I removed the app, I stopped having issues (I'm on stock 4.1.2). If you're on a custom rom, check the forums to see if others are having the issue on that rom. Also, do Internet searches on the apps that you use most frequently to see if there are reports of any of them causing JB to crash. Good luck, it just takes detective work on your part so be patient.
random screen blank
I have had my Galaxy Note 10.1 since xmas. Lately it randomly goes blank. It happens during an application or game. I can click the on/off button to put it to sleep then wake it the regular way...
I have noticed it with games mostly, 250+Solitaire and Sudoku Premium. The screen goes blank, the backlight stays on and have to put to sleep to get screen back...
Mine does the same thing except I usually can't wake it back up. The screen stays black and I have to hold the power button down until it restarts. It's happened with the stock browser and Google play store while I was browsing.
It happens to me too (ics and jb) sometimes, does't matter what app is runing, but only if I'm using stylus. I don't mind it, just have to double press power button.
Sent from my GT-N8010
I still have it happen sometimes too. Never found a solution and I'm quite certain it even started happening before I had any extra apps installed.

I feel like you might be on to something with the stylus being out because I'm quite certain it only happens to me when I have mine out too. Something to keep an eye on.

Strange Screen Problem

I've suddenly incurred a strange screen problem. I was updating my phone to the latest CM10.1 nightly (4/22), and after the phone installed it, it rebooted, as it should. During the reboot, the initial Samsung Galaxy SIII logo showed on the screen, and then the screen went black. I thought it was strange that I didn't see the cyanogenmod boot animation, so I waited a minute. The notification LED lit up and my phone chimed with the usual ringtone I hear at bootup, and the hardware keys were lit up on either side of the home button, but the screen did not light up. I am stuck with the phone in this condition. The phone is actually on, and if I click the power button to turn on the screen I can place my thumb where the lock screen is and feel it vibrate as I unlock the phone, but I cannot see anything on the screen. The screen remains completely black. Removing the battery and all other considered options have been unhelpful.
Any thoughts on this guys? I'd really appreciate some help or solutions to attempt. Is this the Galaxy S3 "sudden death" syndrome?
Have you tried flashing back to an earlier backup? It could simply be a bad download. If your backup does the same thing then there's a bigger problem here.
Do you see anything immediately after a reboot, before it boots into android? If yes, the problem is in android or the ROM you flashed. If no, I'm afraid your backlight may have died. That happened to me AND my sister's s3.
Also, take it into a pitch black room and see if you can see the faintest of backlight on your phone. When my backlight went, I could see everything in a pitch black room, like it was on -20 brightness.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I had that exact same problem. Although mine was because the version of CM 10.1 wasn't compatible with the custom kernel I was using, do you think that has anything to do with it?

S7 non responsive screen but leds and charges ok

Hi I have just bought an s7 which turned out to be a Korean G930L but I cant get any response out if it apart from the 2 bottom leds and and the blue one. No response from trying to get into recovery or download mode, basically a black screen though it does vibrate on what i think is start up. It is found by pc and Odin and charges ok, I can tell as I can see properties on pc. But no other response. Is it possible that the previous owner tried to root it using non korean rom or TWRP? Any advice on how to fix either getting TWRP on or screen to light up. I am sorry for being so vague I have pulled it apart and checked all of the connections, screen, motherboard etc but nothing. Odin sees the phone but I am not sure if I am in Download mode so wont flash, as cant see screen.
Or chuck it out or put back on eBay.

Your phone's display screen has a problem , sadly you have to replace the display screen. Go to the nearest samsung service center.
Thanks it isnt worth it I will just sell it on ebay. I have been able to get to some of the screens [though still black] as it talks to me in Korean and the screen is giving haptic feedback so aspects of it are alive still. I am wondering now if someone has tried to ROOT it and semi bricked it or turned off the display internally. The other night night no matter what I pushed it vibrated and answered me with the same korean statement. I am trying to get into Recovery Mode without a screen and flash it without a screen but proving frustrating, maybe samsung dealer can reflash it with needing a screen.

It's not a software issue, there must be water damage or display is broken/went off for some other reason.
I had this same issue with my note 5, I was able to hear everything, touch key and notification lights were on too, that time my note 5 was accidentally dropped by me. So 99% your display is broken. Simply go to service center and get a quote, but display will cost same as used s7. Try to get after market screen.
ok thanks for the advice, i will head to them after the xmas break
