First thing you need to do is edit the IMEI out of your post, never post that publicly. Is there a reason you're using an at&t RUU? If you really want to return the device to stock you should use a Telstra RUU. The at&t RUU will work because you have s-off, but it isn't technically stock (plus tethering won't work on an at&t ROM). Have you tried running the RUU a second time?

Good idea. Thanks! I have tried ruu with that file multiple times. I used it before people have said it is compatible with super cid and S-off
Is if worth trying another ruu?
Would it be compatible?
I just want a stock HTC rom as this is now my backup phone. Will just use it to stream music.
Cheers!
Because you're s-off you can use any Evita RUU.

hmm. Tried updating to HTC_One_X_RUU_5.18.502.1.exe
still no dice.
STill boot looping
then tried flashing the latest TWRP via fastboot.
can't even get into recovery. just reboots.
Any other ideas?
Many thanks!!

also tried clear storage and factory reset. these just result in system rebooting.......

I have a HTC desire that was running Cyanogen and was rooted with revolutionary.io, but as I needed to unlock this phone I have had to go back to stock (apparently I could not unlock it with this Cyanogen ROM).
I have managed to get the phone back to S-on, but I cannot update any stock HTC ROM onto it now.
When I try to install the the standard Euro Desire S ROM (RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.1_Radio_20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11_M_release_177977_signed), I get the error 131 customer id error

Remove your imei and serial no.
I think we can assume your still soft with hboot 0.98 , try checking it in hboot.
Any reason why u want to return to stock? Custom roms are better and more stable, unless u are doing some troubleshooting no point in going back stock.
If your hboot is still s-off with 0.98 , update your hboot, make sure u have a custom recovery, then start flashing a rom.
Cheers

Removed the serial and IMEI....thank for the heads up!
I am needing to return to stock, as I need to unlock the phone. I have the code to unlock, but under the Cyanogen rom I was running the phone lept saying that the code had been accepted, but did not unlock. Infact I discovered that I could enter any code, and got that message, without unlocking. The company that supplied the code informed me that the phone needs to be running a stock rom for this code to work.
The hboot is now s-on.....does this give me a problem?
I was considering sending this phone to JTAG specialist for repair. Would this be necessary, or is there something that I could do to recover this situation?

First reason why it fail is because ur "version-main" is 1.47 and the ruu that ur trying to flash is 1.28, u cant downgrade.
Second reason is that ur locked to orange so u cant use a europe ruu, u will have to use orange branded ruu.
Either find the orange ruu 1.47 or above and flash it but if u use one above then u will have downgrade after to achive s-off. Theres guides here in dev thread on how to do it. Or u can create a goldcard and then use a wwe/europe ruu, the goldcard bypasses the cid check of the ruu. All guides r here on xda, just search, im on my phone cant post links. (i could but its easier on laptop)

well now ive managed to mess around and got aokp_evita-rohan-milestone6.4 rom loaded on my phone, but its stuck in a boot loop at the boot animation... ahhh, this is frustrating.....
How did you get it out of QHSUSB_DLOAD mode? You're s-on so you probably just need to flash the boot.img from the ROM zip via fastboot to get it to boot.

just tried flashing the boot.img from the rom twice to make sure and it still bootloops at the boot animation...
and for how i ended up getting it off of qhusb_dload, i just downloaded all of what i could find for the rogers htc on x and tried flashing this, flashing that, and i dont really know exactly what it was that kicked it out of that mode...
im still confused as to why it wont boot after flashing the boot.img from the rom..
While "flashing this and that" has gotten you out of trouble this time I wouldn't suggest doing that again in the future, it was likely a huge fluke and flashing random things is a pretty bad idea. What ROM are you trying to flash?

well originally i was trying to flash i think it was eragon and i got as far as flashing boot.img and then the rom wouldnt flash. now i have aokp_evita-rohan-milestone6.4 rom loaded but it bootloops.
should i try to flash another rom and keep trying till i find one that will startup?
What is eragon? If that's a ROM you've flashed a ROM that isn't for this device, no such ROM exists for the Evita (HTC One XL / AT&T One X). You're lucky you didn't brick your phone. Have a look through our development sections which you'll find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1541
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1726
Don't ever download ROMs from anywhere except within those two development sections or you're on a dangerous road to phone bricking land. Find a ROM you think you'll like, read the OP, make sure you meet any requirements it lists prior to flashing, and flash it.
PS. You should really remove your IMEI number from your first post, and the other post where you quoted it. Don't ever post your IMEI publicly.

I can currently start the bootloader, which states S-ON, TAMPERED and UNLOCKED.
I can install recoveries. Right now I have TWRP, and I think it works the way it should.
Tried installing a stock ROM, tried CM11 (which is what I started with) and CM10.2.
I updated the firmware which is what I think caused the issue.
Between every attempt, I cleared cache and dalvik before and after each ROM flash, then rebooted.
Every ROM puts me into a bootloop.
Please help me.

Easy fix your going to have to flash a boot.img from the rom
You have to do this because your S-on if you were S off you would not need to flash the boot img yourself
follow the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677

There are other tools but I have not used them I'm sorry
A little update:
First, recovery stopped having control over the SD card somehow. Right now I can't even boot into recovery anymore.
I think I need to run RUU, but I don't know which one. I have downloaded this one off androidruu.com:
Code:
RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.8_Radio_1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_301814_signed_2_4.exe
because it matches my radio version, but I don't know about the rest. Currently in the process of installing Windows 7 on a virtual machine so I can run this thing (why the hell is it a .exe file?!).
Does anyone know which one would work for me?
Hi everyone,
I have a strange problem, My phone does not boot to recovery or bootloader, charging led does not turn on. This has happened after I flashed my phone with official rom.zip extracted from RUU (CID: HTC__J15; MID: PJ8311000); first time it flashed and showed error 90 (you have to reflash again), i waited fir htc logo to come back but it didn't and it is now stuck as I mentioned above.
My phone shows as fastboot device but rather weird s/n (??t fastboot) where ? is strange symbol.

My phone was S-OFF, the problem now is I can't flash anything cuz my bootloader is locked and when I tried to unlock it from HTCDEV website it gives me error 150; wrong token or something like that.
Also when I try flashing anything like boot.img or rom.zip I get FAILED (remote: not allowed), attached screenshot
Does anyone know something about this? any help is appreciated.

Which RUU did you extract the ROM zip from? As far as I know there aren't any RUU's for your model (Evita_utl).

I downloaded it from http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Evita, the one starting with "RUU_EVITA_UL_ICS_40_S_HTC_ARA_2.40.415.1"
That RUU isn't for your device, it's not compatible. You've most likely borked your partitions. There isn't really anything you can do now apart from trying to find the stock firmware for your variant (the Evita_utl, not the Evita_ul) to fix your partitions, this will be difficult as I don't think your stock firmware is even available.

Thanks for replying. Does it have a different partition layout than the other One XL devices? isn't all of them supposed to have the same partitions? And I had S-OFF so it should not matter what version I flashed as far as I know -correct me if I'm wrong-
Hi I just wanted to try the Maximus HD 10 and thought I did what was expected but something went wrong and now the phone is totally blank.. I am new to this but read alot in this forum before I began and I am used to computers etc. so I gave it a shot.. This is what I did:
Installed the Windroid Universal Toolkit to unlock the phone, and that went well. Then followed the instructions to install the Maximus HD 10 which also went well until I had to install the newer firmware.. From here things went really bad and after a lot of different wipes and things that I don't know anything about I am stuck with an useless device
I have searched all forums (I think) but with no luck, so if anyone know what I should do I would be really thankful.
And no.. I do not have a backup!!

Fastboot can communicate with the phone but ADB devices will not find the phone.
If I reboot the phone I only see the HTC start screen for a few seconds and then nothing.. It has TWRP on it which I can enter.
Please help me!
If you have TWRP you might download any ROM and flash it but since you're S-On don't forget to flash kernel in fastboot mode after you flash the ROM.
Kernel is the boot.img file on the root of the ROM zip. Extract it to PC and while in fastboot issue the "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command.
For changing firmware you need S-Off which you don't have. To gain it you should flash first a close to stock ROM (like Viper for ex) then try to gain S-Off with rumrunner or another method. Then you can flash firmwares

Don't forget to do that after every ROM flash. If you'll get S-Off, you won't need to do that anymore
