[Q] Sensitive Notification Option Missing? (Lollipop) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In Android 5.0 I've noticed that under the "when device is locked" dropdown, I no longer have the block sensitive content option anymore. Does anyone know why this is? Also, if I try to go specifically into the messenger app and look for the option to make the individual app "sensitive", it is not there. Any insight? Thanks.

Hey, I have the same issue on Nexus 4. I don't understand how's that possible
Just a question, when you receive a notification, do the screen turns automatically on to show it? My screen remains turned off. Is it supposed to turn on when a new notification pops up?

It is only an option if you have a secure.lock screen, Eg pattern, pin etc.

thanks!

[Q] Notifications on Lock Screen?

Pardon my ignorance, but I've been searching high and low for this answer. This is my first Android phone in 2 years (MyTouch 4G), and one thing that seems to be bothering me is the inability to view notifications if you setup a lock screen. I had a WP prior, and you could simply pull down your notifications tray, see a preview of a notification, touch to open, and you would be asked to enter your password to proceed.
Is there any alternative I can use, so I can see my notifications while on the lock screen? Preferably something that will turn the screen on when I get said notification.
Try "Snaplock" on the google play store

Wait for lollipop
I'm using floatify and it is a really beautiful designed app for notifications. You can choose between various styles and it shows accessible notifications on the lockscreen as well as system wide.

Any way to disable wake screen for notifications?

I tried to enable from Custom restrictions "Don't turn on the screen" and "Don't wake for notifications" with no luck. Is this a bug or bad user?

Always nice to answer to your own questions . Ambient display -> disable New Notifications. Oneplus logic escapes me.
Disable notifications
Go to the Settings app on android > Sound & Notifications > Scroll Down and App Notifications under notification section > Tap on App name installed on your mobile > Turn off the notification for the app.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, but I wanted just to disable wake screen for notifications not to disable notifications. Was a little confused initially since Oneplus seems to have two settings for the same thing. Got it in the end...
I have the same problem, but your solution does not work for me. As far as I can tell I have everything in ambient display turned off, but the screen still wakes up (to the normal lock screen). To confirm: THE TOGGLE SETTING "NEW NOTIFICATIONS" IS NOT HIGHLIGHTED, WHICH MEANS IT IS OFF. HOWEVER, THE SCREEN STILL WAKES UP.
In addition to that I even have "no notifications on lock screen" selected, which means my screen WAKES UP AND SHOWS NOTHING. It's distracting and useless at the same time. Very annoying.
I have now turned on "ambient display when I pick up the phone". This finally made my screen stop lighting up by itself, though of course now it does it when I pick it up. But at least it doesn't distract me while I'm working on my pc with my phone on the table.
I like my 7 Pro very much...and since this is my 2nd phone from OnePlus, I guess I am fairly satisfied with their implementation of Android Q. However, their way of setting up notifications is one of the worst things I have ever seen! It is convoluted, confusing, and counter intuitive.... not to mention just plain ridiculous. I hope they really get on the ball with the issue of notifications and their useless Horizon light very SOON because a cell phone without proper, accurate, notifications totally defeats the purpose of having a "portable" communications device.

I am having the same issue, how did you get the screen to stop waking up?
I'm trying to find a fix for this, as well. I have an app that wakes screen besides delivering the notification with/without sound. And now I realize I have another one. I also want to have those notifications on, but without waking my screen, just like most of the other apps' notifications. And this is not related to ambient display. In my case, I have stock Android, on a Pixel 3XL.
Thanks!

Actually, there is a fix now, if you run Android 13. Under Apps->Special app access, there is a new option called 'Turn screen on'. I disallowed the annoying app and solved my issue.
I want to disable lock screen wake up for text messages and still no luck on S23. I went under special app access and disabled "Turn screen on" for the messages app (and others), and guess what? The screen still comes on when I get a text. HOLY ANNOYING.
You can turn Lock Screen Notifications completely off, but I dont want that. I want the audible notification to come in without turning the battery draining screen on, and when I tap the screen with my finger I want to see the app badge that tells me when app the notification came in on (signal, or messages, or fakebook, etc). If it's fakebook I may ignore it for example.

As I said in my post, I don't want to disable notifications, I want to disable lighting up the whole screen. The notification icon should show on the always on display without going full annoying brightness on the screen for 5 seconds. That's just dumb.

You might want to consider utilizing the Google Issue Tracker which is a tool used internally at Google to track bugs and feature requests during product development.
For Do Not Disturb - If you have the setting "Always show time and info" enabled (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info) your screen will display a dimly lit clock when the screen is locked, among some other status icons.
In the DND settings, if you check "Don't wake for notifications" and you get a new notification (text, ig, whatever the notification is), it will not show on the screen until you unlock the phone. It will just display that clock and you'll be unaware of the notification.
If you UNcheck "Don't wake for notifications", the lock screen with the large dimly lit clock will change to show the small icons for whatever the notification is.
If you do NOT have enabled the setting "Always show time and info" (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info), I imagine it would be the same behavior, except you would see a difference when you manually wake up (but don't unlock) your screen--you would either see that you got a text message or whatever the notification is, or you wouldn't until you fully unlock the screen.

Question Watch not getting messaging notifications

So my watch is paired with a Xiaomi Poco F2 Pro, and whenever I get a notification like an email it appears on the watch instantly and works perfectly, but stuff like WhatsApp, Signal or SMS just never appears, like it never even detected it.
I enabled all apps in Galaxy Wear app on my phone and triple checked if those apps are enabled and made sure none of the other options would affect the ability to receive notifications, I tried using the watch with MUIU Optimization on the phone turned on and off and it doesn't make a difference. I have the latest software update for the watch.
Does anyone have any guesses as to why this is happening and maybe how to fix it? Thanks.
Check your settings under notifications in the wearable app to make sure they're enabled. Also make sure your messaging apps are set to alert on your phone. I get that you probably already did this but other than that, there's not too many places to check.
I did everything, the apps are enabled and they show up on phone as expected, the problem is that on the Wear app the notifications from messaging don't even show up on "recent notifications" which I don't see why that would happen. Thank you for the suggestion.

I've had similar issues I've dealt with this in the past. If all notifications work except for social notifications it's always a setting issue. Good luck.
You have "Show Notifications Even When Phone In Use" and " show with details" on?
Also you don't have an app that is intercepting your social notifications?
Also your social notifications are set to "Alert" on your phone? Not silent?

I have "Show notifications even when phone in use" and "Show with details" on. I shouldn't have anything intercepting my social notifications, I also turned on "Show notifications and content" before I had it set to "Show only notification without content". I set social apps to alert on my phone, they still do not show up as recent notification in the Wear app or appear on the watch.
And I'm almost positive it's something on my phone because when I try with my roommates to connect to the watch the notifications actually work and he has a Xiaomi Mi Note 10, I checked his settings with mine and they're identical so I'm not sure what's the issue, there may be something with my MUIU (MUIU Version 12.5.4.0 Global, Android 11)?

Which apps specifically are giving you issues? ALL notifications with a reply action? If so, I would verify that your Conversation notifications are configured correctly
Okay I semi fixed it somehow, here how it got semi fixed, not sure if all steps are needed but that's what I did:
I turned on MUIU optimization, then turned it off which reset all pernissions, went to the Wearable app and the Galaxy Watch 4 plugin and gave them all permission, went to the notification access settings, disabled everything besides the Galaxy Watch4 Plugin then disabled and enable the plugin and notification appeared on my watch.
The problem is that they work immediately after enabling notification access but 30 seconds after and I don't get them anymore and I'm back to the previous problem. Now this is a problem with MUIU which I don't know how to fix, I guess it doesn't want to remember that I gave the app notification access. If someone knows how fix this last step I would be really grateful.

Yes all apps with a reply action, as written in the reply above I did find a way to semi fix it, I was even able to reply to those notification, but the MUIU notification access issue still persists. Searching on the internet didn't give me any meaningful results.
I factory reset my phone, set all the settings the same way and it works..
Disappointment.

Question Notifications help with S22 Ultra

Hello everybody,
I got my device yesterday and i am still trying to sort things and settle down.
I have one question which is driving me nuts.
In my previous phones (latest being OnePlus 6t), i could make the apps (such as instagram and WhatsApp) not to show the message but only the notification badge and how many things i am missing (such as 2 messages, 2 chats or 2 messages 1 chat).
On S22 Ultra, i can hide the context on AOD but the context is always seen on while the phone is unlocked/on homescreen.
Would appreciate if you can help me solve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Press the notification till you see "settings" menu. Select the notification type you want (push the text, for ex. "new messages for sim 1") Than select "silent" and enable app icon badges. You should be ok.
Nope didn't work. Still can see the message there.
In Settings>Notifications> Lock screen (Display), do you have 'hide content' set?

you mean it makes just beep sound and doesnot wake up screeen? right?

Nope,
This was how my old phones used to act;
If the screen was off, it would wake briefly, show the whatsapp icon and go back to turned off screen.
On the lock screen, when i wake the phone, it would show the whatsapp icon and that is all.
On home screen, when i scroll down, it would show whatsapp icon and number of chats and messages but not the details of the messages (like 2 chats, 3 messages).
But wouldn"t give details like "Nicole: How are you doing"
My new S22 Ultra acts like below;
On lock screen, it acts correct. Only whatsapp image pops when i receive a message.
When it is awake and when it is on home screen, it pops the whole message for me to read. And when i pull down the notification pane, the whole message is there for me to read.
I have fingerprint activated on my whatsapp.
Now, if anybody can read and reply to the whatsapp message by pulling down the notification menu, what the hell is the reason of a fingerprint layer on whatsapp entry...
They can simple send one message to me and they can see whole of the newly received messages.
As well as, this causes the above mentioned issue. Where people can read delicate messages when i am showing something else in a different app...
BlinkThinks said:

Yes i do.
That hides it only when phone is locked.
Let me try to post some pics of what i am trying to explain.
Alright got the pics.
At first, you can see the lock screen acts as it should. Doesn't show the context/content
But on the second screen, where it is notification menu scrolled down, the message can be read.
And the same happens if i am doing something with the phone when the message is received.
So, people looking at my screen can see the message.
Please also note fingerprint login is also enabled for my whatsapp. So this totaly kills the point of fingerprint log in.
And when i figure this out, i will also need to hide other notifications as well.
When i receive an email, i will show how it was on my other phone's notification panel.
Since whatsapp doesn't allow multiple devices at once (cellular) i can't show with whatsapp message.
I hope this gives a general idea of what i am trying to sort out.
And here how it was on my old phone. It shows content hidden on notification menu for the apps i have closed preview of.
Whatsapp, instagram etc.
The reason there are 2 separate outlooks is one is a calendar alert and other is actual email.
If i had like 5 mails and no alerts, it would show as one outlook and say 5 emails with one notification.
you can also see that instagram is also hidden as content.

At least i sorted the WhatsApp.
Having 2 messaging app doesn't help.
One doesn't have the options you showed, but it also have the block/blacklist option.
I also need to find where the app lock is on Samsung. Where i can fingerprint lock the apps i choose to.

Question Hide incoming call popup for Google Phone app

I am using Google Phone and Contacts app (Samsung apps are terrible to use, although they look better).

As said, not possible, all greyed out and default to on
You could try with Auto Notification and Tasker
Do you have Google dialer installed? Can you show me how your notification settings look like (enabled or greyed out)?
They are greyed out on Samsung dialer too
I know why... Google is forcing some properties to fixed so that users cannot change notifications. Problem is that they should fix this behaviour which I believe is a bug.
Strange cos my Xiaomi phone does not have this problem: same app version, same settings greyed out.

I'm getting the notification. Always did
Strange... It shouldn't be there
Maybe it's because of "floating notifications" in settings. Check it.
By the way I get a similar notification while in another call/Viber call/Skype call even with Samsung dialer.
Google dialer is fugly.
NO, floating notification is to enable the floating popup when minimizing the dialer.
It seems as if when receiving the call with screen off, Google dialer detects the screen is already on, this displaying the full screen + the popup. As a matter of fact sometimes the popup does not show, but when it does (most of the times) it's annoying as hides that caller's nam

I have also had this issue for a while now, and could never figure out how to fix it either. I finally decided to try turning off the "Appear on top" permission setting in the app info section of the phone app. That seems to have done the trick, as now I only get the top pop up when I get an incoming call, then when I answer it goes to the full screen portion like normal. Maybe give that a try and see if it works for you.
