[Completed] [Q] New Member Limitations? - XDA Assist

Hello, I have been a member of XDA for many years. I havent posted much as I also participate on other smaller dedicated forums.
I have a few gripes and complaints/questions about the new member limitations.
First, why am I limited to a Five minute post window and how long does this limitation last? I have met the 10 post quota but I'm still limited to a 5 minute post window.
It is a pain in the ass to post a legitimate response when you can only respond once every five minutes. I understand that this is applied in an effort to cut down on spam but as a long term member I never would have thought that I would be subjugated to such limitations.
Also why does the forum software think an edited post is a new post. Why must I wait to edit my post? That is absurd.
Second, I can't seem to send PM's to certain members. I tried to PM a member about creating a watch face earlier and my PM would not send. I dont know if there is any limitations still on my account but I find it problematic that I can't send a simple PM. And i apparently cant send PMs to the forum staff either.
I am not in any way new to the forum verse. I am a contributing member to Droidforums.net for many years
Best regards,
Quicksilver7714

**NEW FORUM SECTION COMING TO XDA-DEVELOPERS!! (Please read this important update!!)

ATTENTION ALL XDA MEMBERS:
ATTENTION ALL XDA MEMBERS:
*******PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ ABOUT THIS NEW AND IMPORTANT UPDATE COMING TO THE XDA-DEVELOPERS FORUM SELECTION.*********
Hey guys, TweakMan here. I have some wonderful news for you. Coming soon to XDA-Developers, will be new forum section to choose from, dedicated for the sole purpose of helping you!
As most of you have seen. the very first thread in the Development & Hacking Section is the "General Questions & Answer" Thread. It was opened a few months ago, with the intention of helping you get your questions answered. But as you may have noticed, this thread has grown to an enourmous size!
For this reason, an entire new section will be opened and dedicated to this purpose! It will be the same concept as the current "Question & Answer" Thread, but will be far more organized, therefore helping answer your questions faster!
The original concept still stands. No question and no comment, no matter the subject, device, or reason, will be turned away from this new section. Any question, about any device, theme, program, or situation, can be posted here, and WILL NOT BE OVERLOOKED!!!
Now, in the past, it has been hard, and sometimes impossible to post a question in any section other than "Development & Hacking" , and actually get an answer to that question, but with this update, this is all about to change. If you have ever used the currenct Q&A Thread, you know that you will get the help you need, and get it as fast as possible. With this new section, things will work the same and better!
Wether you are a junior member, who has owned a PPC for two days, or a Senior Member, who has owned 10 PPC's and wrote 30 applications, this thread is perfect for you! If you ever have a question, from what the name of a theme is or how to power on your device, all the way up to coding programs or cracking applications, you are welcome here.
So please watch for the opening of this new forum section. By agreeing to use it, you are not only helping your self, but you are helping your fellow XDA members, and that is what this site is for. Thanks for your time, and I hope to see you there soon!!
PS:
If you are currently an active perticipant in the "General Questions & Answers Thread" in the Development & Hacking Section, please read the update in the first post of the thread. And thank you for your past support, and the support I know you will show in the new sections. You guys have made this possible, and this is for you!!!

[Completed] Forum bug regarding "new" users

I've been a member on XDA since 2011, a few years. I haven't really had much in the way of contributions to the community, namely the forums, because I've always been more of a consumer in this realm. I've got a whopping 12 posts in that time. But for some reason, vBulletin as setup in the XDA Forums thinks that I'm still a new user. I'd like to humbly suggest that it be modified to consider the signup date as well.
I discovered this because of a secondary, related bug: I attempted to edit a reply I had just made and was told by the system I had to wait 5 minutes because I was a "new user". I can understand limiting new posts, but the editing of new replies and posts shouldn't be restricted the same. In my case I had forgotten a quote which was the entire context for the reply. Without it, my reply made no sense and for 5 minutes it lacked that context.
Thanks for this place, I hope you all think that's some meaningful feedback.
Hi,
The system is setup to react to post counts. Not time since signed up. But you can feel free to ask here about it,

Good luck!
Thank you. Thread closed.

[Completed] Post Count Zero

Hello,
I understand the 10 post rule. I made some post in the question section as recommended. When I check my profile it says I still have zero post. I am not complaining, I am just wondering how I can get to 10 posts if my post in the questions section does not count toward the 10 post? Thank you for any help or suggestions.
I see your Post Count currently as 3 although it does not reflect so near your Handle/avatar. You may want to post in [All XDA Members] Requests to Moderators and Admins to let the Admins know the issue.
Do please be aware that there would be times when your posts might be deleted if they got reported as SPAM or found to violate XDA Rules.
Thank you for the reply
Thread Closed. Thank You.

[Resolved] Need Assistance Updating an Old Thread

I know XDA has the 10 post rule, but I signed up to fix an issue with thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890199
The old XDA thread is the top result on Google for renaming Android apps. Thread was renewed by Ashish Mundhra, a writer for www.guidingtech.com, whom necromanced this old tool that is no longer being developed. Normally instead of all this backstory I would have just posted:
A tool that is up to date, works, doesn't need Windows, and is still being developed.

When Google points me to a sour, stale, or dead thread, I like to point that thread to the new information that works if/when a solution is found.
It's disappointing I can't do this directly but I understand, so can one of you do it? I think the spirit of a site like this is community help and support.
Why I don't think this new post is forum necromancy:
Forums are great sources of information so long as the content is on point and furthers the topic. Post's like "It doesn't work for me." I believe is necromancy. However, providing a solution using modern hardware or an alternative I believe is a great asset to forums.
What are other user's thoughts? Would someone be able to update this thread for me? If not, why?
Why not actively posting on the thread you think it needs to be updated ? Whoever reads the thread would eventually see your post I guess ...
Do you want someone to add your thoughts on the first post of that thread ?
Unfortunately xanthrax, as a new member I cannot post to developer forums. I would need assistance from another member to do what you suggest.

Oops! Sorry, TehZig, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
New members (those with few posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and software. New users can read posts and download files, just cannot post for a bit.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.

Hi !
That`s ok and due to not enough posts count.
All new members must reach 10 posts across the forum in order to be able to participate on the development section by helping around .
This will make them get accustomed to our website before jumping into the development section.
No problem. I've lurked years but only now created an account.
As to the purpose of this thread, my thoughts were that I could possibly gather relevant post replies while debating my own topic for 10 posts.
The 10 post rule is a good one. Not everyone has dialed into information via BBS and used the internet before it became popular for information, instead of popular for instant messaging.
Well you're almost there, welcome to XDA [emoji6]

[Discussion] Please rename this forum to Nokia 5.1 Plus

The Nokia 5.1 plus is the global variant of Nokia X5 (China only). Since a dozen of countries are getting 5.1 plus, it has a much larger exposure. Nokia 6.1 Plus, a similar device, also has its forum instead of the X6. I would like the forum to be renamed.

6 months later, I second this request. it would be nice that the moderators explain why they still didn't

Accidently, I found this thread and it's request two days ago and contacted our admins. Renaming the device forum from "Nokia X5" to simply "Nokia 5.1 Plus" would have caused problems and possibly confusion, too.
As you can see the forum hase been re-named to Nokia X5 (Nokia 5.1 Plus), and we hope that this now serves your requirements.
Please advise if you want the thread to be closed.

Usually, I don't reply to such a demanding statement. You can easily count the number of moderators here, and we're all volunteers who are doing this "job" for free beside a real life, real family and friends, real business, and all of that takes precedence above XDA, to which you certainly agree. XDA has not only 9.9 million members but also currently about 3.5 million threads and 75.5 million posts. I guess it's easy to recognise that moderators are unable to scan the majority of threads to look for posts, in which support or assistance of a moderator is requested. And please believe my that even a private message might not be useful as this specific moderator to whom the PM is addressed might be offline for days or weeks due to real life commitmens, and the PM will rest unactioned in the inbox for quite some time.
So, instead of posting a complain I suggest to use the established measures to alert the moderators' team and to request support: Just use either the "Report Functionality" or post in "[All XDA Members] Requests to Moderators and Admins".
Thanks very much for listening. I hope I was able to explain why nothing happened in this special matter for months.

You did very right, BTW renaming the forum has no value addition to the Forum, It Serves your phones i think enough.
Yes please close this thread. The request was done. Thank you.
PS: the value to rename the forum is for the forum to show up with search term "Nokia 5.1 Plus". For most people they may not know X5 and 5.1 Plus are related.
