I just installed Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and I really like the new & fresh look. After using Apex/Nova all the time on KK I now think about using the stock launcher (I guess it's still called GEL?) on Lollipop. Which one is your choice for our brand new Android?
I've tried the Google launcher but I just don't like it.
I'm sticking with Apex. Does everything I need it to do.

This is my first HTC phone and so far im loving it. The only problem is that all of my previous phone did not have Sence and im not really liking it. I was wondering if i could freeze sence via titanium backup and still have my phone work? Thanks.
Just use a 3rd party launcher until custom roms are possible.
ADW.launcher, launcher pro, go launcher, etc...

Hi,
My 7.0 Plus has 5 homescreens, but I have 3 of these empty. Is there any way to delete these homescreens? Maybe through installation of a new launcher (I currently have the default one only)?
Any thoughts welcome! Google searching hasn't helped me yet...
3rd party launcher, yes, definetly.
Stock launcher ,no, probably never.
Thanks Chris. Can you recommend one which might do the job?
I use Launcher Pro, the best one out there imo

I was using Launcher Pro on my previous phone/tablets running GB, but found it pretty buggy and not fully supporting Honeycomb.
Switched to Launcher EX, free and superfully featured.

Look on Google for go launcher hd beta. It is specifically designed for tablets.
I use Go Launcher Ex (not Go Launcher HD beta) on my phone and my tablet. I've tried a few others but keep going back to it. Its VERY customizable and super smooth/responsive. I like the Transparency theme for it also.
I tried Go Launcher HD beta, ultimately switched back to Go Launcher Ex. I may switch back once Go Launcher HD is completed, because its still lacking some customization and is a little buggy.
Hi everyone, i want to ask this because i'm curious
Why everytime after an app has been installed android restarts the launcher? I've owned a Nexus One, a Desire Z and now a Nexus S but it seem to happen on every Android phone, and i think google has to fix it as soon as they can, for me it's really an annoying thing, on iOS and windows phone it doesn't happen and it makes the overall experience a lot better and fluid.
I can understand that when i'm playing some games android kills the launcher to free some ram and that's ok, but after installing an app is something that shouldn't happen at all.
Is there a technical reason for this?
Thanks!
I don't face problem like yours, can you tell me your rom, version, and launcher app (if u use launcher app like go launcher wx etc)
Sorry for my english

Hello, i'm using ICS Stock (4.0.4), i'm almost sure that happens to you too, but maybe with custom roms reloading the launcher is faster and you don't even notice that
Oh, and i use Nova Launcher
Hello
Yeah i'm using custom rom now, but before i use custom rom, i used the stock 4.0.4 from samfirmware but never face problem like yours...

i get this every now and then when installing big apps. Im thinking it has to do with the phone caching the app in ram as it installs it and since the nexus only has 512 mb of ram, the launcher is killed at times. My phone also get a bit laggy when installing apps. This doesnt happen on ios because ios handles multitasking and memory management differently than android.
My nexus s also get a bit laggy when installing apps, but only for big app... but my laucher does not restart...

Well i have this too when i modify any of launchers options... i understand this normal as launcher apply changes, and also when u install app some changes also have to be made right ?? Just the way i think about it and i dont see this as problem at all coz i dont think u install new app every 5 min... why bother with such a little thing compared to how amazing ns is ...
I've been using Apex launcher this week (which is amazing, and imho has tons more options over Nova), and would like to disable TouchWiz. I noticed that TouchWiz does not have a 'disable' option like a lot of other apps do when viewing app details.
I am rooted, but I'd rather not use Titanium Backup since I do not plan on completely removing the app. I just want to disable it like I have been able to do on the Verizon bloatware apps.
Can I simply go into system/app and rename the TouchWiz app?
I've noticed that when I download/install a new app, the phone still tries to add the app to the TouchWiz home screen which I find annoying.

Touchwiz is built into the ROM. The only way to not use Touchwiz is to use AOSP/AOKP or something without TW.

I'm using Apex Launcher as a replacement and would like to disable or freeze TouchWiz without using any new apps like Titanium Backup.

You're still using TouchWiz. You can't NOT use Touchwiz on Stock. Apex is just a launcher. TouchWiz is the entire touch interface. Everything you use is still using TouchWiz.
You remove, freeze, rename, etc. any TW files you will probably brick the device and have to odin back to stock and start all over.

Okay, thanks guys. I guess I misunderstood and though TouchWiz home was just another launcher. I didn't know it was essential to the rom itself.

No worries. TouchWiz Home is just one part of TW, but TW itself is basically the framework added onto Android by Samsung which is part of everything. The only way to not use it is to use AOSP or find another non TouchWiz ROM (not sure if any are out for the S3 yet)
I'm sure you can freeze the launcher and get away with it.
I believe it's "SecLauncher2" or something to that extent. Look for the word "Launcher".
And I'm not responsible if you bootloop

I'm curious, what are the "tons more options" ??
I have seen people post this before but nobody seems to know what these options are.
I used Apex for months in my old Rezound but I prefer Nova in the G3 myself (& I have the paid version of both Apex & Nova) but maybe I'm missing something.
So far, Nova has had every single setting or option that I want so I am really wondering what I am missing??
Nobody yet have balls to ****ing delete or freeze TW to see if it works along Nova...

Just use nova to replace TouchWiz as your default launcher and bingo you should be good to go

Hey, I'm thinking of getting a Huawei well pretty much decided I will, I'll order it and try it out and if I don't like it I'll exchange for something else.
I'm just wondering out of interest cause generally I have no idea about using an Android ran device as I always have been on IOS but fancy a change.
When changing in the settings what kinda launcher you want to use for themes, could you download a theme on the Google play store that has a app tray/drawer? And for that matter should theme work on the Huawei Ascend mate 7 unless it states other wise.
Thanks, Eilidh

Themes on Android are specific to the launcher that you're using. Most themes that you find in the Play store are for a specific launcher, e.g. Go Launcher, Nova Launcher, etc. In the case of the Ascend Mate 7 the default launcher supports its own themes and can be downloaded from the Themes system app that is installed by default. Can;'t get easier than that
Hi, to get closest to original Android lollipop look on EMUI, do the following:
- Install EMUI 3.0 AM7 ollipop theme, Google it, you'll find easily.
-Install nova launcher, set icon theme to lollipop
-Download exdialer app set it as default dialer and contacts app, it has same lollipop theme
- Download Google messages aop, set as default msgs app.
- install Google keyboard, set as default input.
This is closest you can come to default Google lollipop Android theme without rooting.
