I have tried everything Full wipe, Tried various camera apps, even reinstalled a new Rom. Still the same issue. Is it something to do with the hardware, i am really worried. camera focus and even the preview is ok..but when the image gets saved..it becomes grey...IT all started when i rooted my phone and installed Stock rooted 44S. I must have nicked something. any idea people?? Images when checked on PC are basically 0 byte files.

Have you tried a factory reset? Or a full wipe and reflash?

Are you using Slow Shutter to take the picture?
I had this problem, but only using Slow Shutter.
To fix it I just went into settings for the Camera and changed Slow Shutter Auto to 2 Seconds then it was fine afterwards even if I changed it back to Auto.

For some God forsaken reason, the camera in my N5 is a pile of crap. Let me list the issues:
(Note I'm using the stock Google Camera app and have tried CM Focal with identical results).
Switching from Rear to Front camera takes a stupid amount of time, usually winds up crashing the Camera app altogether.
Switching from Camera to Video results in a grey bar, 1/10th the width of the screen, spanning the entire length of the right side of the screen. The app usually crashes after this.
Videos usually can't record, the screen freezes, forcing me to hit the back or home button.
When videos do record, they're corrupt and cant be played on any windows machine or in any program.
Sound quality is laughable. (wasn't when I first bought the phone with 4.4.2 on it)
Snapchat usually can't even launch the camera and asks to restart the app. Usually results in me having to reboot the phone.
When the camera does work in Snapchat, pictures come out fine, but switching cameras usually reproduces the issue mentioned above. Videos, however record only 50% of the time. The times they dont, the screen freezes, resulting me having to restart the app.
When videos do actually record in Snapchat they have about a 50/50 of being unable to be played back, resulting in the error message: "Can't play this video".
On rare occasions, using the camera in Snapchat results in the screen flickering rapidly for a few seconds and then the phone reboots... The last time this occured it wiped all the data to Facebook, Snapchat, and EvolveSMS.
These symptoms exist in both Vanilla KitKat 4.4.4 and CM11 (Snapshot M8). Yes, I have reinstalled Snapchat. I've also tried toggling on/off HDR+ to no avail.
My Camera is basically useless and it's extremely annoying. It has even caused crashes that have wiped data from my phone. Hardware related? Software related? I'm really at a loss here... Any help is appreciated.
Well first try a complete fresh install to see if it's just software related

Factory reset, wiped case and dalvik, freshly installed CM11 last night before bed. Same symptoms exist as they did before.
Hello,
I just noticed really weird effect on photos and it seems to be software issue. Look at this 2 images.
This one was taken using CameraNext, everything is fine:
This one was taken with GoogleCamera:
Most weird everything is ok if I don't use flash. But with flash, only stock camera is ok, any other app will make photo with this effect? Did you noticed the same??
Just to clarify...
I have one (broken screen) oneplus one with the same issue I just order the screen and charger plug, however was thinking about taking the phone to a camera repair center to get the issue fixed because was thinking about a flash sync issue or one of the 2 flashes is lighting more than the other... well, I've always used the default app. What you say is if I install a 3rd party camera app it's going to work fine? Yes, I should try it first before ask but my cell is not ready yet to be used and I just want to make sure. Thanks for advance....

The stock camera crashes when I:
-enable RAW
-select slow shutter
-select a shutter speed of 2, 4 or 8s in camera settings
The annoying part is that I have to reboot every time to fix the camera as it seems to be unable to connect again after crashing. Is there any way to fix this without rebooting? There is a play store app but it doesn't work.
Edit:
If you want, vote for the issue.

Is this with the new update that came out today?

Question:
Stock?
Bootloader unlocked?
Rooted?
Custom Rom?
Custom Kernel?
Any tweaks to the device other than stock?
I'm just curious...if stock users are having trouble, or is it just the tweakers?
Have you tried a factory reset? And as above, any mods or running 100% stock?
Rooted with stock rom and stock kernel. Clearing the camera cache doesn't help.
I'll try a factory reset as some users don't seem to have the bug.
I've noticed that too. I've also noticed two more things:
- 4k UHD + RAW = bad time. As soon as I hit record it gives me a black screen, I stop the recording and it freezes. I have to force close the camera app to be able to do anything with it again. Oddly enough, 4k DCI works fine.
- Slow-mo video + RAW = choppy. The video seems to be playing back at a super low frame rate. Everything seems to have a lot more motion blur too.
Using raw any time there is low light results in camera crash as well

rooted, with stock everything. after taking 8 sec slow shutter, when saving it lags, then black screen then crash. then when i reopen all the menu still there but black screen. anything i do from there it will just crash.
I have the same problem as the poster above.
Any clue?
The other problems described here were correct with the latest update.
Anyone with anything on this?
Same issue here. Will it be fixed ever?
Yep, this has been a known bug from day 1 bro.
Just to put my 10 cents, same problem here even in Auto mode.
This is the only issue I have with my phone now. Hoping CM12 fixes it.
Hello, in CM12, as says Spectre, camera works well, but is there way, to fix this problem in latest official CM13.1, or Lineage14? Thanks much
edit: well, sorry, in CM12.1 problem still here, seems aka HW problem... overheating?
No working solutions? ((
Guys my main camera stopped working.
The process is not blocked by any other app.
I tried service menu and test camera, it doesn't perform the test, it fails.
Only way to take pictures is to use gcam v1.4 and manually choosing wide or zoom camera.
When u choose 1x camera it stays black and crashes.
Any ideas?

Have you factory reset?
I got the same problem. Just got a black screen and camera app would freeze. Did a factory reset, camera was extremely choppy for a minute or so and now back to nothing.
Tried another factory reset. It seems like if you change the default resolution settings to anything (even tapping on 'FullVision' in settings), it almost breaks the camera. Best to leave it at default 4:3 12 MP resolution.
Seems like a "driver" issue, good work LG.
Did any of you ever find a fix for this? Just got a Korean V50 Thinq and the camera is 99% of the time crashing. I tried installing gcam mods as well and they also crash, primarily while using the main camera.
Got it repaired via LG warranty. They replaced the main/motherboard. Phone has been fine ever since.
Same thing happened to my phone and warranty is expired. I tried the hard reset and may other ways, but nothing helped. Did anyone find a solution for it?
I'm facing an issue with my camera which I couldn't find anything about via a web search. So I would like to know if anyone experienced something similar?
I'm running the stock rom and didn't tinker with the phone.
Since yesterday my rear camera is really slow an only slowing blurred images. The whole phone seems to be running really slow and unable to handle the data. Switching to the front camera takes ages but once it's active it's working normally.
If I try to use the camera several times I end up with a black preview image. A reboot returns the camera to the previous laggy state.
Changing to a different camera app yields the same behavior. Could be an issue with the latest patch for Android 12 I i installed around the same time or my hardware is fried...

I would try a system reset if possible, I know its a pain but if it works problem solved, You could also try going back to a different build via android flash tool , just a couple of ideas although extreme ,would narrow it down even more to a hardware issue over corrupt software. Hth

I feared that I would have to do this. Factory reset and flashing an older version didn't help.
Now I can hear that something is moving inside when I shake the phone. Time to crack it open and have a look.
Thanks for the suggestions.
