[Solved] Flash OTA zip? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've applied previous OTA zips by just flashing in TWRP. However I'm getting an error this time around. I'm on the KK build ending in P, but when i try to flash Lollipop it says my build fingerprint is incorrect, that it's the KK build ending in H. Anyone have insight on why this is?

As it says, you're not 100% stock so it won't flash

This would be due to my recovery and xposed i take it? Or strictly xposed?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app

Definitely Xposed, probably recovery as well

Xposed. You'll not just need to uninstall the xposed files, but the app too as ART doesn't like to boot with that app installed.
Recovery is fine. Only issue would be that an OTA.wouldnt automatically install. You'd have to manually boot into recovery to flash.

Hmm, it didn't work. Removed xposed and unistalled, still getting same error. I'm stock, rooted, had xposed.

Do i need to sideload the ota zip in recovery or flash like normal?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app

You may want to look at flashing a full ROM.zip instead as it will be much easier.

I can just fastboot flash the images separately... Which ones do i omit to keep recovery and user data?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app

Don't flash userdata.img and your storage data will be fine. If you want to keep your custom recovery, don't flash recovery.img.

Funnily enough, recovery.img and userdata.img haha
Also you'll need to delete:
/system/recovery.init.boot.p
/system/bin/install-recovery.sh
Before boot, although flashing superSU should prevent them installing stock recovery

You listed two files i need to delete. Is that before or after flashing the img files?
I've never had a problem before, i don't get why it's failing now... Keeps saying I'm showing an old build fingerprint. Never seen this error before.
Short of being rooted, I've removed any modifications to my system. Really don't feel like wiping the whole device.

Cant Flash Anything in Twrp

i cant flash anything in twrp everything i try to flash says failed. other than that twrp works fine. any ideas why?

Usually might have to reboot recovery in TWRP before flashing. Normally with Catalyst that is what it requires me to do and all works fine.

In twrp from the home screen select reboot and then select recovery. This should reboot into recovery. Then try flash. What file are trying to flash?

Problem updating to 4.4.2

Hello everyone! My nexus 5 is stock 4.4 rooted with chainfire, and stock recovery.
I received the notification to update to 4.4.2, and accepted, unfortunately it failed, and rebooted normally. I had frozen some system apps with titanium backup (i.e google play music) and think that might've been an issue. I also altered the files necessary to tether.
Wondering how I can try to flash this again? Where is the update stored once downloaded? Can I just flash it in my stock recovery? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have the same problem. I just uninstalled a few apps like play music. Phone is rooted with twrp as recovery.

I actually have stock recovery. I just located the update with root explorer in /cache. Can I just flash this update in fastboot on my phone? (Vol up+down + power?)

Freezing apps is fine, it's the tethering mod that is preventing the OTA from flashing.
You can download the factory image and update that way. Flash them one at a time so your data doesn't get wiped.

If you're unrooting, you don't need to keep it.

There is a way to see if there is any modifications to the system's file?

There's an OTA checker flashable zip in general I think.
No, not in the ota, I say in general, if I want just to control of there is any modifications without flash anything

There is only one way. By flash the OTA checker zip in custom recovery. It can be found in the general forum I believe.

After the flash I'll have to unroot the phone and just install Lollipop with the ota?

I think the best bet for you is to read the thread about root / update in my signature. OTA is proving too troublesome. I can't hand hold you through the whole process.
I mean the zip checker

I already told you.
Ok, I've read your thread about how to upgrade to Lollipop the Nexus.
The fact is that my main pc have no working USB ports, so if I want to unlock the bootloader and stuff like this I have to use my second pc, and it is very slow (the last time to just fastboot a factory image it tooks me one hour of suffering).
I think that the method 2b is the one that is closest to my situation:
1. Unlock bootloader if necessary (This wipes data)
2. Accept OTA update
3. Fastboot flash a custom recovery image (of your choice)
4. Fastboot flash a custom boot.img (@Chainfire for basic root, @sykopompos for full permissive mode)
5. Flash from recovery, SuperSU

I don't want root, so:
2. Accept OTA update

If I have understood, the only thing that I have to do is use flashify to flash the OTA checker zip. file and than proceed with the OTA, right?
If there is another way to do this without use the PC, it will be great, but I don't know.
Is what I said right or I forgot something?
Thank you with your help anyway!

If yes, I can't flash with a custom recovery because I have the stock recovery (because I'm rooted with only Towelroot, so stock recovery and locked bootloader)

Then you can't use it! Wait for the OTA and install it.
I already have the OTA, but I think that there could be some issues, this is why I want to check if everything it's good, I don't want to brick/bootloop the device

Root 5.0.1?

of course there is a way to root 5.0.1.
use fastboot to either flash a custom recovery (TWRP is probably your best bet), or use fastboot to just boot into the custom recovery without flashing. Either way, once your in recovery, flash SuperSU (download here http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip)
done and done.

PS. I have a custom recovery and unlocked boot loader so your suggestion are invalid

actually, it does work. with 5.0.1, I'm rooted. Except when I flashed 5.0.1, SuperSU v2.40 hadn't yet been released, so I rooted with SuperSU v2.37, and then updated via the playstore when 2.40 came out. but it definitely works with Lollipop.
p.s. you need to have an unlocked bootloader to install a custom recovery (which is what I suggested doing). So in fact, my suggestion is completely valid and 100% relevant. In fact, I had assumed that you already had an unlocked bootloader when I posted.

yes, and the way to "manually re-root" is to flash the ZIP in a custom recovery. You the app installed, but not the SU binary. So flash it in TWRP.

CF Auto Root and flashing the superSU2.40.zip in recovery both root android 5(0.1/0.2). Did it myself and confirming root access.
You can root with the same chainfires files for 5.0, and then you can update supersu and twrp

Crazy. Done it to me a few times. I even decided not to help him ever again some time ago, then took pity on him yesterday or the day before and the he did it AGAIN!
He's just a school kid, but you'd hope he would learn from his attitude, but apparently not.
What's worse, is he isn't even picking up the knowledge that people give him or reading the stickies. He's been Here pretty much a year in the n5 forum and cannot even be bothered to.understand the basics. Asks the most basic questions every time.

Disable qe service in stockrom

I know there are only few people using stockrom here, but according to this:
Carrier IQ, round 2: Motorola's Android devices are running "Qe", a process which logs all modifications to the stock OS and sends them back to Motorola
nomatter VZW or MOTO do this, i decide to remove the service.
By disabling "service qe" section in /init.target.rc will totally disable /xbin/qe running while our xt897 is booting, and this will also speed up the booting time.
we can do this by modifying the boot partition.
Disclaimer:
!! This is only for Photon Q 4G LTE stockrom !!
Most custom roms are already removed qe from boot partition.
I cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong while using this mod.
how to flash:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot mmcblk0p31_boot_mod.img
how to check:
every time you reboot the phone, "/xbin/qe /system" will be executed, and the result will be stored in /data/misc/qer
delete /data/misc/qer and reboot, you should no longer see the qer appeared anymore.
I also attached the original boot partition image just in case anything goes wrong.
(mmcblk0p31_boot.img is the original one)
So you have done this? Or are you only reporting it?

I have already stopped qe from booting in stockrom.
You can just do a simple flash to the boot partition.
Maybe the Droid4 and Razer also have this kind of problem, but i dont have these phones.
Ok, do you have the download to flash, or is it in the link?
Can this be flashed through TWRP etc, or only through ADB?

It could certainly be modified to flash via TWRP.
