Wifi not working in Lollipop - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just installed the factory image of Lollipop on my Nexus 5, but the wifi is not working. It is connected to my network etc, but the internet isnt working & play store keeps crashing. when i put it onto mobile data, everything works fine. I know its not my internet because it worked fine prior to Lollipop and the internet still works fine on all other devices.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

Wipe. Reflash it.
Its not lillipop, Its your phone.

I wouldnt be too sure of that I know its not the same issue, but I've seen that people are still having a few issues with wifi even with the official release: https://code.google.com/p/android-developer-preview/issues/detail?id=1548
If I do re-flash do I have to do it all or just a part of it?
I'm wiping cache & data first, will let you know!

You have an issue. I would wipe it completly and flash back to square one.
Up to you. I never "dirty flash".
Just a thought;
In that link it seems to be a few dirty flashers.
It seems to happen with wifi that I already had setup in my Nexus 5 prior installing LPX13D. Tried to "forget" them and connect again but same results.

Ok thanks man, I'll give it a go. Odd though, I didn't have an error during flashing it all, is there a way to tell of any more hidden errors occurring?

I am having this issue at work only! I cannot connect to the guest network-when the network asks to enter the password, I do and then it just never connects. I had the same issue with the dev preview, but now the problem persist on the official build as well.

Lucky you, I had to manually flash everything, and I was all Benzo'd out at like midnight, so I messed it up like 3 times and had to do it over and over. lolz
But the only way to see is to try.
Just so you know.
I am currently connected to a corperate wifi fully secured with no issues. I have always connected here. However I do not let google keep my wifi info and password.
I also have the same encryption at home. no issue.
Just tested connected to the WPA2 Guest here and no issues.
It looks like it could be the "google" restore junk causing issue with some ppl. So try not using that if you have the option.
After that I'm out of Ideas. Sorry if none this helps.

To be fair, I did have to manually flash it all because it kept getting stuck at 'missing boot.img' error when i tried using the flash-all script. I have just done a data & cache wipe & it now works! The first time around I did let it 'restore' from the cloud, but didn't let it do it this time. So you're right it looks like that might be the cause.
Thanks for your help

So, If I attempt to do a factory reset and then skip the restoring of any settings-it should work?
Should I skip restoring the apps from the play store as well?
Thanks

I have found a work-around of the issue-when asked to login-from the notification bar, do not do it there. pen Chrome instead and it will load the login screen there-login from within chrome and it works!

Wifi unable to reconnect when coming back in range

I have this rather annoying problem with my OPO: When I'm on WiFi and go out of range and get within range of another WiFi (eg leaving from home in the morning and getting on the train where there's also WiFi) my OPO will not connect.
I've tried switching WiFi off and back on, tried forgetting network and connecting again but the network just displays as "Saved". Only thing that works is a reboot. Funny thing is that it actually detects open WiFi's and displays the question mark in the notification bar.
I've read that themes can cause WiFi problems so I haven't changed that. I'm using the Apex launcher with no visual changes.
I've rooted my phone but left the bootloader locked.
Any advice?
I'm rooted with the TWRP custom recovery installed. I had the same thing happen to me. If you toggle airplane mode on/off, it will reconnect. But, as for a solution, my fix was to restore a previous TWRP backup of my phone. I also had heard that the problem could be coming from a theme. What themes have you used? I bought the Flux theme and have been using its style and fonts. I was running the stock CM11s when this happend just a few days after getting my OPO. I would try a factory reset first. If that does not work, there is a thread in the OPO forums about flashing a factory image and getting back to 100% stock.
I have switched to the CM11 nightlies as of a couple of days ago. I will probably refrain from messing around with the theme packs for now.

I'm now on KTU84P and the problem is still there
Yesterday I failed to flash MAHDI and ended up clearing everything from my phone. I had to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
to get back to pre-KTU84P (can't remember the build number).
So I guess it's safe to say that my phone has had all sorts of memory cleared. And the problem is still there...

I really hate to hear that you are still having the wifi issue. One would think that if you flashed all partitions with a factory image that it would solve the problem. You might want to have a look at this thread. This guy was unsuccessful in fixing his efs and bluetooth problems until he flashed Color OS and then went back to CM. Flashed Mahdir ROM yesterday and though the rom works just fine my WiFi reconnect issue has not been resolved
I find flashing yet another rom (ColorOS) sounds a bit drastic. Really no way of debugging what's wrong?

Thanks for sharing. I think there are two things that can produce a major restore/fix to a phone - a nandroid restore and a major rom update. I hope it fixes yours. The nandroid restore is what saved mine.

Been there. Done that. Read the book. Got the t-shirt.
Flashed ColorOS.
Factory reset.
Booted and got through into ColorOS (skipped account setup).
Booted into recovery.
Factory reset.
Restore backup of CM11S.
No dice :'-(
What are my options now?
A couple of days ago I completely wiped my OPO - radio, modem, everything and flashed a new stock image. Nothing has helped.
I really find it hard to believe this to be a hardware issue.

Just for clarification - after flashing Color OS, did you turn on wifi and use it to see if the problem was still there while in Color OS?
If your WiFi 2.4 or 5GHZ?

Yes. I would recommend you consider doing that. If it works then I would flash a fresh Cm11s rom, not a nandroid backup. Flash the Color OS and do a full check of the Wifi.

I was having the same issue, but here's what I did and it seems to have resolved my issue.
1) Updated firmware on my ASUS AC68 router
2) Boot into recovery mode (volume down+power), wipe cache and media, then factory wipe
3) When setting up phone, did not apply CM theme on the options after logging into CM account.
It seems like WiFi might drop when you get to homescreen, just reboot phone and Wifi should reconnect. Make sure to go into your WiFi settings and remove any networks that was saved, and re-add.
Still not ideal (since it seems like themes might be killing WiFi for some users), so hopefully a new OTA update will solve this problem.

[Q] cm12 WIFI not connecting

Hi,
after installing the latest cm12 nightly (cm-12-20150225-NIGHTLY-hammerhead) I can not connect to any WIFI networks, when I try to connect it just says "connecting..." and stays that way.
Rebooting and wiping does not help. The same problem also occurs in the previous nightlies. In stock Android 5.0. WIFI works.
Does anyone have the same problem or knows how to fix it?
wlan
same problem, but don't know a solution. It seems it has something to do with the ip-adress, here it's showing 0.0.0.0 and this is wrong.

No, did it another way. I wiped dalvik/cache/data /system and when I flashed the newest cm nightly (using twrp), before I deleted the the my phone on the router (i have a fritzbox). This was the only to get wifi on my phone working again. (lot of work, but all the other ways I tried don't gave me success).
Reset the access from the device to your router. Once delete the device and then re-enable then it should go. Had the problem once, once made, never happened.

Cyanogenmod 13 Data Connection Loss

Recently I updated to CM13 (the most recent snapshot) and I find that my data has been acting up. When my phone first boots up it works fine, but if I lose signal my phone will not reconnect to data unless I reboot. I tried toggling airplane mode, but to no avail. APN settings are correct. Is there a new radio I need?
It's the firmware that is causing it, flash this:
CM12.1_05-15-15_modem_firmware.zip
I've had problems ever since the first time I loaded 13. Every time I load a new ROM, I have to flash [Firmware_OxygenOS-2.1.4] to get my connection to work. I've tried the Frankenstein Firmware and every other Firmware I can find. The one listed above is the only one that works for me.

It's because you're using a non-compatible recovery which doesn't allow the file (The Cyanogen recovery). You need to install a recovery like TWRP to flash the file.
I'm not sure about the WiFi. It might be the stock rom that you're using, but I don't know because I haven't used it since I bought my phone.

[FIXED] WIFI and SIM Card TOTALLY broken on OPO running Nougat

Hi,
To begin with, before all this I already had a wifi issue:
I had to reconnect to wifi networks every 5 minutes. After 5 minutes the wifi signal icon was still showing but nothing on apps etc could refresh, simply no signal.
I searched something on Google and found a forum post about someone having the same issue. He fixed the issue by flashing and installing a 'firmware' zip, file or whatever. This was for OnePlus One devices running Nougat so I tought, all ok!
So I flashed the file and since then a new (huger) problem showed up.
When my device was on, no SIM card could be find (And yes it's in lol..) and I can't turn on WIFI (When I do, it turns off automaticely after 5 sec.)
I tried a FULL wipe via TWRP, tried to flash the rom again (TugaPower) and NOTHING worked.
HELP! Seriously, I've been searching **** for 2 days now and I really need my phone.

@Fersho Is the lagfix necessary? I'm without that file a few days ago and it's still pretty fluid.

Hello!
I have a decrypted Nora XT1944-4. I installed the vanilla-nosu rom and didn't flash the lag fix. It installed and booted fine. Everything seems to work except wifi. It connects to the network and I can connect to whatever google service (synchronize a gmail account in the Email app, google.com in the webview browser), but I cannot connect to anything else (duckduckgo.com gives ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED, F-Droid cannot connect or update).
I tried wiping Dalvik/ART, and cache, but the problem remains. I tried flashing through TWRP and fastboot, same problem. Why can I only connect to google? That was exactly what I was trying to avoid :/ Other phones connect fine in the same network.
Thanks
wifi issues

do a clean install and then flash the rom and see what happens . the google services registered is really easy on this ROM . i have had wifi issues also but it connects but when sending text i have to send it twice otherwise its good .
Doesn't flash on Metro E5 Plus (Hannah). Restores very quickly and bootloops. Ideas?

That is normal let it do its thing it will come along just give it time. I'm using Hannah my self works good . the first boot loops and then even after restoring your apps it boot loops again idk why but then it stays stuck on black screen then shut it off then turn it back on you got a functional ROM I mean I had todo a couple of things to it like sound was choppy while on stand by fix that any way flash this ROM again and let it do its thing it will work

I restored to stock, wiped Data, Cache and Dalvik. The phone booted fresh new. Then I flashed AOSP9 vanilla-nosu. Same problem. I open the webview browser, google.com connects, I can even search and watch youtube videos. Duckduckgo still gives me the same error. Then I tried the same with the gapps-su version, but same problem. The point is that I don't want gapps, I would like my phone to connect to anything but google (exactly the opposite of what I'm facing )

Sorry, I didn't understand. Should I clean flash the gapps-su version, register google services in my device and then remove all gapps? I don't think that is going to work, but I'll try it.
I really enjoyed this rom and I'll try everything for wifi to work, so I can keep it as daily rom
Thanks again @Googleme35

Yea you can disabling them, but not take them out Gapps-SU comes with google apps so disable them and use whatever apps you need.

Actually you can if you get system app remover from there you can take them out
I think problems with WiFi just need a cache and dalvic wipe from recovery.

To skip setup wizard you can use four corners bypass to bypass the setup wizard: (thanks to @phhusson for providing a way to skip setup)

I tried it too and could not bypass the google setup. Just skip everything, then you'll get warnings with a link to validate the rom.
Btw, did you get wifi connecting to anything not related to google?
