S-View Case scratched display? - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

Pls who can tell me if this case really scratches screen or not?
Thx in advance.

I have the stock S-View cover on my Note 4, got it when I got the phone and I've had it on the whole time, I haven't had any problems at all with it messing with the screen. Granted, I do have a screen protector on (Zagg HDX), but I'd think that it would be even more likely to show any damage on a plastic protector than on the Gorilla Glass so I'm pretty confident that you shouldn't have any issues with it. If anything, I'd say it helps to protect the screen by keeping it covered when it's in my pocket! I also used the S-View cover the entire time I had my Galaxy S4, never had any trouble with that one either. I know some people really don't like S-View, but personally I don't think I'd own a Galaxy phone without it! One of the things I love the most is that I can make a phone call and have the cover closed while I talk, keeps my screen from getting a big cheek print on it!

Owned a smart phone ever since I could remember. I never had any major issues with scratches on the screen since I try to be as careful as I can.
Recently I had a M8 before my Note 4. I decided to get the HTC Flip Case with a unscratched/mint Screen. I figure it would protect it, but after a few weeks of using it, I saw scratches on the screen that you can feel your finger nail.
After that, I decided to never use a flip case again.

Samsung is not HTC. As I haven't owned an HTC since the original Droid Incredible I really can't speak to the quality of their flip cases, but as I said I've used an S-View case for the entire time I've owned both of my Samsung phones. My Father uses an S-View case, my Mother uses one, and at least a few of my friends use them, and I've never once heard from any of them a single report of the screen getting scratched from using it. On top of that, for a significant amount of time I used the S-View case on my S4 with no screen protector. Honestly, if you just don't like the S-View cover then don't use it, but don't make the choice based on worrying about the screen getting scratched as you've got a much better chance of that happening without one than with!

It is not the case that would scratch the screen, plastic/cloth cannot physically harm the gorilla glass. It is physically not possible. The dust and debris that may get in between the screen and the case however can which means unless you put a screen protector on the phone there is absolutely nothing you can do to 100% guarantee that your screen will not get scratched.

It does because the case can collect particles which can scratch the screen. There was a similar thread in the Note 3 forums last year where people got scratches on their Note 3. It's simply friction. Either live with it or use a screen protector.

either get a screen protector or dont.
sview is NOT a screen protector. If anything you are better without if to protect your screen because if you happen to be playing with your phone, any dirt get on the screen, you will close the sview over it = scratch from frictions

I bought the S-view case day one when I got my Note 4. The phone was fine and had no scratches on it for about 3 weeks.
However just this weekend I found a small scratch about a 3 to 4 millimeters long that can be felt with your fingernail. There are also scratches on the black parts of the front (bezel) that are also about 3 millimeters but they are not as deeps.
Needless to say I went an bought the first screen protector I could find. Still trying to find a good quality tempered glass one like I had on my S4.

I really want to get the s view case but pretty hesitant on this screen scratching problem (or oleophobic coating wearing off).
Since its been quite some time since the phone's release, I was wondering if anyone has any further experience. Does the screen actually get damaged from the cover after a couple months of use?

Reporting in, been using the official S-View case since day 1, still no scratches, scuffs, or marks whatsoever. Of course I do also have a Zagg HDX screen protector on it, but honestly the Zagg should scratch much easier than the gorilla glass so I'd say pretty confidently that this is not an issue to worry about. Pull the trigger!

Thanks. Got the S-View case today.
Call me paranoid, but I seem to be getting a horizontal smudge line across the screen after extended periods of leaving it closed (right where the bottom of the window is located).
It rubs off easily, but hoping it doesn't leave a permanent mark on the screen like some have mentioned...

my GF has the sview case on her note 4, been on there for a couple months now. she shoves her phone in her pocket, purse, whatever, its held up fine so far.
the only 2 complaints I have (not even her complaint and she uses it) is: 1. that the camera takes square photos when using the sview case to take a picture. easily remedied by using the camera app instead and 2. the window seems to pick up oils from the screen easier than the rest of the case. I frequently notice a square of smudges on her display that coincides exactly where the window is when closed.
other than that, the case is fantastic for her, she loves it. I personally don't use a case

Screen Protector or not?

Hey all,
Today i removed my InvisibleShield after i got a replacment of it in mail.
When i removed it and touched the screen, it was amazing !
No finger prints with crazy smooth feeling !!!
What do you think about the gorila screen? someone here is working the the phone without a screen protector?
Thanks
Hard to say. In theory is should be fine but here are some links that may help you decide;

Get a screen protector.
As soon as I got my i9000 I bought a soft case for it. The case had a small ceramic ball as a fastening, and after 1 week of use this ball created a nice big scratch down the middle of the screen.
I've got a Martin Fields screen protector now, it doesn't feel as good on your fingers but at least it's protected, and it's covered up the scratch.
I do not use a protector. The surface is hard glass, and I'm careful to put it in a pocket that contains no other items.
Protectors make more sense for plastic screens.
It is a personal preference; I suppose the chrome plastic edge will be worn before the glass gets scratched.
When I got my iphone I put a screen protector on it right away. After a while it needed to be replaced so I took it off, only to never get around to putting it back on. Needless to say it went without for months and not s single scratch.
I have had my Galaxy for four months now without a screen protector and so far so good. It still looks perfect. I am however vigilant at keeping it away from change or keys while in my pocket.
I have used two different Galaxy S's with protectors (don't know which brand though) and both really took away from the quality of the screen.
Bought a screen protector the other day and it felt sticky i should say prefer without but if you have a 4" super amoled screen you might wanna protect it
I prefer using protector. It's no harm for me and gives extra protection.
At first it was sticky, but not so sticky anymore, or I just got used to it.
I'm using InvisibleShield.
Tried both cause a couple of my first screen protectors were getting air pockets. Ordered a new one, but during the mean time I used it without a protector.
I personally find either works. As long as you have a decent case to prevent the screen from cracking if it falls on the side it should definitely be fine.
If you handle your SGS carefully there`s no need for a protector. But try to seperate it from scratchy things... in your pocket...
I would get one !
I learned the hard way and now have a good scratch on my screen.
Definitely should put one
it helps protect the screen, even though the screen was supposed to be indestructible as they advertise, it is not
many people have used it normally, although it might not break, you can still get annoying scratches if you keep them in the same pocket where you stick your house/car keys in
Have been using it without a protector for about six months now it has no scratches. Some times I forget and put it in the same pocket as my keys but even then I have had no scratches on it.
Im getting one.
Its scratch proof, not scratch resistant.

Correction, it's scratch resistant.
After a while you will see micro scratches on the screen when held up to the light. Use a screen protector.

Same here after I removed it no more fingerprints.
I'm very happy without screen portector.
I would preffer a little scratch instead of dirty fingers all the time an due to that bad vision.
My Brando ultraclear was scratched within one week and I asked for replacement.
The replacement is still waiting, it think I never wil use it.
i used screenprotectors years ago when I got the freshly released OmniaHD GT-i8910. I removed it later and didn't miss it until today I have never got any scratches in my smartphones.
I have had a screen protector on my Galaxy since day 1 and would recommend them to anyone. I doubt very much that they are actually scratch resistant and if left unprotected then I'm sure they will eventually scratch. The Titanic was unsinkable and look what happened to that!
im in charge of about 70 mobile phones. at first I suggested people get them, but after a while in became very clear that they are more of a fad of sorts. sure the reduce wear and tear, but not enough to be worth the cost or hassel. Only twice now have saved a phone... both palm pres... go fig

I have a gadgetshieldz protector on front and back. Not as sticky as the invisible shield and very clear. I used a glare reducing one on my O2 - waste of a pretty screen
I put one on but after awhile dust and stuff just built up where the screen protector wasn't covering (sensors and camera usually) and it just got annoying, I've dropped this thing flat on it's screen and it's not scratched so I figured I didn't need one.

Screen Protector vs. No Screen Protector

When I first got my first A2, the rep at best buy put on the screen protector before I left the store... (keep in mind that this is my first "smart" phone of any kind, let alone android) ..so, I had never really known it without a screen guard/shield/protector until I got my 2nd A2 (and, subsequently 3rd).
The 2nd A2 I knew was temporary because of a dead pixel in the center of the screen (and other signs of refurbishment), so I never bothered putting on a screen guard. And with my 3rd A2 and I still haven't put one on - I have a brand new Zagg Invisible Shield just laying there, but it been over 2 months... And, I gotta say I like it much better.
Now this can all depend on the shield you use, but without a shield, the touch seems more responsive, the screen crisper, it's easier to clean...
I have a nice case that is raised a bit on the topside edges to help protect, and I never put anything else in the same pocket as my phone...
I know it's risky, but don't we have Corning Gorilla Glass already? Can you scratch that? And I do eventually have a contract upgrade coming anyway..
Thoughts? Preferences? Keep your minds out of the gutters..
I had a screen protector when I first bought the phone, and I got annoyed with it. The screen was dimmer, but the screen was less prone to finger prints. I still have it as it's reusable, but I left it in the car in the Florida heat, so the layers of it are peeling off. My screen also jumps and stutters when it's plugged in and fully charged to 100%. I should probably buy another one to preserve the screen seeing as how I don't upgrade until May.

I have to agree with you. I personally was super paranoid about scratching my screen and so I put shields from various companies on my screen to help protect it. The screen guard got dirty and so I took it off, and I love not having the screen guard on because of the reasons you stated.
I am pretty sure our phone comes with gorilla glass, but it isn't invincible. I have a scratch on my screen but it isn't noticeable when using the phone just when the screen is off. But I guess just keep it safe in a pocket that you don't have anything in and don't have sand chillin' in your pocket.
I've had this phone for almost a year and I didn't start using a screen protector until a couple of months ago. For some reason the screen on this phone scratches easier than my Captivate. I keep them in my pocket but the Atrix 2 has accumulated quite a few small scratches near the bottom of the screen and around the buttons.
I would rather not use one, but I would like this phone to last a while, even as a back up. I've tried several protectors and I've settled on the Great Shield clear protectors. You can get 3 for $7.99 on Amazon and they install easy and are pretty durable. You can also take them off, clean them and reinstall them without losing any adhesive properties.
i had a anti-glare screen guard which i used for 6months and one day due to some expt i was doing on my phone with skins it got off. havent put one back, have just one tiny 1mm scratch which is visible only if you look at it tangentially. have to say the colors look more vibrant and the touch is more responsive (might be due to OC and cm10).
Anyways, i have a case with raised edges, same as altered described, and i take extra care of my phone now. but since im keeping this phone for another year n a half atleast, will definitely get a new screen guard, (maybe one without the anti-glare effect, if i find one) cause gorilla glass Is prone to scratches.
Real men dont use protection...
Stay classy.
Initially I didnt use any "protection" LOL, but had two tiny scratches on the screen. Yes, it does catch scratches easily compared my previous devices, I tried these 1. Amzer anti-glare, will be good for 1/2 months then you will hate it, 2. Amzer Mirror Screenguard, gave me migraine (literally!) 3. Right now having Xtremeguard on it and like it.
There are basically two reasons why I get the screen protectors, to protect the screen obviously and the screen without protector is too slick for my liking, that's just my opinion.
My first A2 went from release day to this September when it bricked and was replaced. In that time frame i had only acquired 2 micro scratches never had a screen protector on it nor do I have one on my replacement. Also the glass is coated it's that coating that is scratch resistant. Watch this

I have a serious thing against screen protectors and cases. I prefer my phone to be naked.
Screen protectors, no matter what you people say, make the screen worse in some way. The display is made to work well alone. They just all suck, and if you ever want it off, in a lot of cases, god help you, especially with self adhesive ones. They do however help prevent scratches, because you will just scratch the screen protector instead of the screen, so if that is important, you may want to consider it.
Cases, now this is just opinion. There is no doubt that they help prevent your phone from breaking, I just absolutely hate them. I don't like to bulk up my phone and make it ugly.
All that said, I take very good care of my phone. I have never dropped it, and I doubt I will, so there is no need for a case if you are careful.
P.S. yeah, gorilla glass is a joke, it still scratches. Just has a slightly higher hardness, and wont break as easy, but coins or keys will still do their job the same.

First up I feel like a dunce picking up that Skinomi worth 7 green skins sucks bad bad. Totally not recommended.
Gorilla glass is in iteration 2 of implementation so that speaks for itself about our ver 1. Plus there is no Oleophobic coating on our device. I invested a massive 20 + $ greenbacks on Otterbox and though no complaints with usability it sure makes the phone bulky and downright fugly. None of the screen guards last more than three months until you need to put a new one.
In India, given the extreme dusty atmosphere in cities, a small two hour ride in public transport coats the phone with dust. Otterbox covers the all ports with covers so that's good. In my opinion just a slip in/out elegant pouch is the best option. Screenguard I reckon is required. Wish 3M made the privacy screen protector for Atrix 2.

Edge 6 Plus scratches on screen with clear view case

Hi all
got the edge plus with the clear view case now i have exactly the same issue with the smaller edge with little dots and a scratch on the screen.
contacted Samsung and they say their is nothing official for the Edge Plus so the chances are they will not replace the screen free of charge.
is anyone out their in the same boat as me, is their any official notification from Samsung covering the Edge Plus
Thanks
Same sh*t for me, my brother has the S6 edge and had this problem, and I bought the clear view cover for my edge+ thinking it was fixed, after 3 days, noticed few scratches when I was on sunlight, 2 weeks with the phone and already pissed out 'cause of stupid things like these...
Sent from my SM-G928F using XDA Free mobile app
I got this case but after reading about the issues with the S6 I only used it after installing a screen protector. I then noticed small pinpricks in the protector after using the case and I could even see the indentation of a circle where the magnet touches the screen. Fortunately most of the marks disappeared from the protector after a few days but it appears that they have not resolved this in the design. I also found that the back of the case itself scratches too easily - it is already showing several scratches even though I have been very careful in handling it. I am surprised they sell it as an official case given the known problems.
The clear view case is definitely one to stay away from. Although it added to the beauty of the phone, it just was not practical, offered no screen interaction when closed and over time I would imagine it would wear out quite quickly. Returned mine after 2 days (before any scratches set in) and opted for the official SView cover which gave me back the functionality that I was used to. Having had the original SView cover on my Note3, after 2 years of hard use it really protected my phone well. The case is in gold and looks better than I expected. Fingers crossed this new SView cover for my edge+ will hold up the same.
i have the clear view case for almost 2 weeks now and not a single scratch or dent visible; maybe you guys had some dust or smth in your pockets that went inbetween the case and the screen?
I had for few days the phone didn't scratch but the cover is completely scratched and it's just awful now ?

I've had my gold clearview case for a week and it's looking a little bit scratchy but nothing too serious.
I just wonder where people's expectations lie in these cases. Of course we don't expect to see scratches on the screen when there's a protective case over it but the case couldn't have caused the scratches. Previous S-View and flap cases were quite soft and spongy, these ones are tough so grit could easily get pressed against the glass. If anything, Samsung should provide a screen cover with the case. I use a plastic screen cover anyway because I find the bare glass too slippery at times.
As for scratches on the case itself, well that's what it's for! It takes the hit so your phone doesn't, and with a mirror finish you'll see some wear and tear. If you wanted a case that maintains its original appearance then don't pick mirror finish, clear hard shell or light colours - grab a dark silicone thing to wrap around your phone and it will look the same in 2 years as it did the day you bought it. Next we'll be seeing case protector films to keep the case from degrading!

Mate,
I am a very careful user 1.5 years with M8 without any case and it still looks brand new. But a "Official Samsung case" I expect it to be a bit more durable and not prone to so much scratches and this case ain't cheap either. Now Clear case by Spigen no no scratches on the case or phone. I'm happy with the performance. I chose Clear view case from Samsung so I can take advantage of it's features.
I've bought the clear view case for my black S6E+ and I can confirm that it does indeed scratch the screen.
The first scratches appeared after something like 3 days of usage, so I've placed spigen ultra crystal to protect screen from further damage and to mask the spots.
I thought that maybe the reason was that I've carried the phone in the case in my pocket one day. But to my rage I've noticed that the case have damged the screen protector within 2-4 hours after applying it and this time there was no pocket to blame, I was home with my little girl sick so I've only moved the phone from one room to another always carrying it in the hand.
I've contaced Samsung Poland by their facebook account and they advised to report the problem to authorised service center in order to assess the damage, but I've let it go - I dont think they have much experience with replacing the screen in this particular device and I was afraid that the final effect may be in fact even worse.
So I replaced the Spigen with another one (~20$ went straight to the bin) and I stay away from the clear view case. At the beginning I was using S-View Cover (highly recommended) but I settled now with Rock TPU (way slimmer and better than Nillkin Nature or Spigen Liquid).
I've compared clear view cases for S6 and S6E+ and it is obviuos that they tried to improve the design by adding a kind of "lip" along the internal edge of the flap so I doesnt rest at the whole screen all the time. This means that the scratches will now be placed (as it was in my case) along the edges of the screen thus giving additional meaning to "S6 Edge"
It does have oleophobic coating and yes it seems to be able to heal minor scratches so thats a plus, but it really doesnt matter as long as the case meant to PROTECT the screen actually DAMAGES it.
Thanks for that. Im glad i went for the S-view instead, i had it on my Note 4 previously without a single scratch.
In UK Samsung acknowledged that clear view case causes scratches on s6 edge and they are replacing screens (only once) plus adding screen protector, wondering if its the same for s6edge+. Worth asking samsung helpline
Mine did it after just a few days. I hate flip covers anyway. But I can't un-scratch the screen.
Ugh...
Chiffon Method to avoid scratches
Chiffon method to avoid scratches
Here is something that came to my mind using Chiffon fabric to put inside the cover to protect the screen, if the screen is still prone to scratches after this, means that the screen is pure crap.
If you don't want to use the Chiffon one, pay attention not to use one made from plastic.
Material:
- A cut of Chiffon fabric, in Mexico costs 1 dolar per meter.
- Transaparent glue, the one used in school that is water washable, in case of error, it can be safely removed
PROCEDURE: (Very complex)
- Glue the fabric into the inside of the cover as you will see in the picture
That's it, is possible to use any mostly transparent fabric in cotton or polyester that is like Chiffon or better, I found this one here.
NOTE: The pictures are very bad quality, looking at the phone is mostly the same using the fabric compared to not using it.
NOTE 2: Inside the cover is mostly the same in black, the bad lighting where I shoot it creates that gray halos, is pure black and if you are a purist you can do it much better than me.
NOTE 3: "CON" mean WITH and "SIN" means Whithout
No offence but it looks really terrible...

Using S7 Edge WITHOUT screen protector

Hello guys! How are you?
I didn´t find some topic with this...I searched for good screen protector but it´s hard to find and to work it with some case...
I already bought the AmazingThing screen protector to try it (on the topic off screen protectors it seens to be the better one until now), but didn´t instal it yet because i bought also a case and I want to try this before because I think that they won´t work together...
Well...this topic is to users who are using it without any screen protector!
- How is your screen?
- It´s demaged or it´s ok?
- There are to many scratches?
- Just a few scratches that with screen turn on you can´t see it?
The first month with the S7E I used it withou screen protector and the screen was ok, no scratches until that time...after that I´m trying some screen protectors...but I´m tired of just try ****...
Thinking to use without but scared to fu**up the phone haha

No screen protector, no case and no scratches I keep my keys in my pocket sometimes too. So not sure why it doesn't scratch.

Micro scratches all over

u don't have to worry as long u don't throw ur phone in a pocket or bag with keys/coins/stuff!!! Never used a screen on my S6 edge / Note 5 and S7 edge and never had a issue until the other day i threw my S7 edge in my messenger which had a bunch of stuff in it now it has a tiny scratch... all my fault.
Just be careful with your phone man! Try and get a case with a good bump just in case.
Excellent case

I have been using the above case since April. I use my phone a lot at home and work. I have no marks whatsoever . Screen protectors are very hit and miss for the edge s7. I probably wasted about £30 on different variants and to be honest none of them were any good. Make sure the case is a genuine Spigen as there are lots of other sellers palming off fakes.
Hope this helps :good:

Surprisingly no micro scratches or anything on it besides the big cracks going along the screen, that I have since I dropped the phone. Might aswell go on with the insurance claim.
No screen protector and a tiny scratch visible when the screen is bright. Bought during june.
thank you all guys! I got one "glass" screen protector (seens to be the best option with others users reviews), but I haven´t installed it yet...maybe I´ll try it before using without because I already bought it, but I´m tired to search it...if it doesn´t work well I´ll use it without and be happy
I see that maybe will have some tiny scratches...that tiny scratches you can see with the display on or just when it is turned off?
If you could put some photos I´ll thank you a lot!!
I usually put on tempered glass protectors on all of my phones but I couldn't find a proper one for my S7E. I've using mine with no protecotor for more than a month now, but not a single scratch so far. I don't like the film ones, they tend to get dirty overtime and I hate the rainbow effect on the flim.
I'd recommend you go naked with S7E because the screen seems strong enough to resist scraches from dusts. Well I do use my phone carefully, as in I barely drop it and don't put it in my pocket with keys or anything. So If you are like me, you probably wouldn't need one
I'm not using any protector, but occasionally I use the 0.3mm thin silicon case that covers just the back. No scratches.
No screen protector
I have a case without a screen protector on my S7 Edge.
So far so good. I've had the phone since May and it doesn't look like I have any scratches yet.
I make sure that when I put the phone in my pocket that I don't have anything else in that pocket, especially not anything metal or other hard substances like sand.
I tried a few screen protectors and I couldn't find any that would fit well enough so I just gave up.
was using it without any screen protector but got few minor scratches in jus 10 days with keychain in pocket .so now m using a screen protector
Tech21 is awesome and very slim. I posted a thread about a screen protector from 5below (store here in NC) that's 5 dollars. Best one I've found yet. I've tried skinomi and zagg. I will say my case needed some modifications with my dremmel so it wouldn't keep making the edges come up.
I don't use screen protector since many years, but always a wallet case. Never had a scratch on my different phones....
I have some micro scratches! About 2 months in use!
But I never use screen protectors and definitely not gonna do it now on a curved screen where most, if not all, screen protectors have issues to master it and fully cover it while being compatible with cases!

Any one using S7 without a screen protector?

As the title suggests guys. After spending tons of money in numerous screen protectors i found out that, a protector that's completely clear and covers the full screen doesn't exist. So any one using their phone without one? If yes, then how is it scratching up? Are the scratches too much? I absolutely baby my phone and, after 1 year it looks completely new. As i intend on using it for one more year, how do you think it will hold up without a screen protector? Any input will be appreciated.

I don't use one, but I do have it in a Speck Candyshell case. No problems so far, but I've only had it for about 10 months and have dropped it on the ground probably about 10 times.

I've used my S7 without a screen protector since the first day (bought it @ launch) and there are no scratches at all.
I don't even have a case or anything like that, the S7 is just rock solid.

Good to hear that. Eases my mind.
Everyday items shouldn't leave any scratches on your phone (keys, coins, tabletops etc etc) its the smaller materials the causes most scratches. Sand is the worst, rock/cement particles and obviously dropping the device will leave marks. I've used my phone since launch and the glass is perfect. Just use a case with a good lip over the glass and your good.

Thanks man. Appreciate the input.
I don't mean to scare you but any unprotected drop over 4ft has potential to crack the screen. Ive cracked the lower left and upper right corners of my S7 flat. There's also a crack from one corner to an edge which passes through the screen. I've since ordered https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XHYGG56/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Every day objects are fine, concrete and drops, not so much.

I know that drops will essentially kill the phone. I intend to use a case for that. What i am worried about is how will the screen scratch up in day to day use without a protector.
I have never used a screen protector on any of my phones. I have never had a cracked screen. I don't see how they can really work and they generally look crap on an expensive phone pretty quickly. One thing, the S7 is a pretty heavy phone compared to the S4 which weighed nothing, so if you drop it the screen is possibly more likely to crack if it hits something. I alway use a case and that has saved the phone many times.

I baby my phone too -- always in the same front pocket -- nothing else in that pocket with it, to protect the screen -- always lay it face-down on clean and flat surfaces, etc.
When I got my phone, I searched high and low for a quality glass screen protector too, and you are right, there is none (that works well with a case). I figured I could try no screen protector, because the Corning Gorilla glass these days is relatively impervious to scratches and dirt, so I've been going with a slim case and no screen protector for a year now.
Not a scratch anywhere, and it looks much better than previous phones with screen protectors (especially the plastic ones).

Thank you so much man. I was really confused about using the phone without a protector. Your experience would really help me make the decision.
Okay, so this an update. After so many encouraging info from fellow members, i have been rocking my s7 witnout a screen protector for about a week. And i am happy go say that the display isnt as fragile as i thought it to be. Still no scratch, knock on wood. This is a thank you to all the people who answered and helped me take my decision.
I used s7 without screen protector....
No protector here - and no scratches. I've used two different cases (Spigen and a Diztronic). The screen stays off any surfaces. Ordinary items have not scratched my screen.
Screens held up fine without one since release

I haven't had a screen protector on my S7 since the day I bought it. That was about 2 years ago and there still aren't any scratches on it at all. I always make sure that the screen is against my leg in my shorts/trouser pocket and my right hand leg pocket is solely for my phone. Nothing else ever goes in there besides the phone and that seems to work pretty well. I do have a decent rear cover (VRS Design) that has a nice raised lip around the screen too. I haven't dropped the phone yet though.

I think new batches of S7 are not Gorilla Glass. Mine is 2 months old and in 2 weeks it developed a lot of small scratches and 3-4 very deep ones. I never had a phone with such a bad glass and i wear it with care, never with coins or keys in my pocket or other mistreating. I still have a havey used old S2, S5, OP3, all worn for lots of time by me, all in perfect condition, not a single scratch (never had a screen protector on any of these). However my new S7 is totally ruined as the glass is all scratched. This cannot be Gorilla Glass. It even has a lot of very small scratches in perfectly predictable places on the screen where I touch more often, clearly developed by finger usage because it fits with most used places of on screen controls/menus. It is worse than a plastic protector actually. Tried to return after two weeks because it was clear that any easy touch causes a new scratch. I even doubted it is an original Samsung product. It went to official Samsung service and returned as not deffective (but proven to be genuine Samsung). After this experience I sworn never to buy a Samsung again.
