In systemui.apk
Youll have to decompile the apk then study the code to find the variables that count the recent open apps.
Of course we have xposed framework to do this now.
Try contacting an xposed developer. Like the gravitybox dude or something.
I'm sure he'll accept a feature request. Just make sure to post in the gravitybox thread and no pms.

Can you move this post on "Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting"?
You need a modified kernel. No way around it.
You can use the report button to.ask your thread to be moved.

ElementalX.
I'm looking for an incorporated advanced power menu for the G3, rooted LP 5.01 stock, which assigns to the power button. I do have Xposed experimental installed, APM+ experimental does not work (yet), and no other advanced power menu incorporates into the system/power button, though they do work via their icons.
I'd like to find out what/how to make the power button integrate with an advanced menu. Any insight is appreciated.
Thank you.
There is a version of g3 tweaksbox that works on lollipop that will give you the extended menu. I don't remember where I found it, but will find it and post here.

kleerfyre,
Thank you. I can not run Xposed because it ruins my tethering. I appreciate the info. When Xposed is updated to solve the tether, I will use your idea.

Is there any way to disable the quick settings panel? Actually, I'd be satisfied if only notifications would show when the status bar is being pulled down.
Would an ingenius shell command be the way to go? If so, which one?

Well, I thought I might find a quick fix already available in your OS but none exist that I know of.
You'll have to try rooting your phone and using Xposed and a module to hide quick settings panel.
Or you can try modifying your device to remove it with this guide.

@Droidriven
Thank you! I'm already rooted, but don't want to install Xposed. I'll have a look at the guide
