actually i bought my XL around 1 month before...and i wanted to root my XL...should i root or not..??
i am confused as i have bought it recently..!!
plz help..!!
Is there anything that you want to do on your phone but you can't because it requires root? Then you should.
If nothing you ever do requires root then there's no point in rooting.

actually i want to install apps in my sd card & to install all the apps directly to the sd card & also transfer all the obb file to sd....but without rooting these all are quite impossible...!!!
obb file can be moved to sd card but the game installed can't be played...!!!!!
so i m wondering is it best to root my recently bought XL....!!!
actually my main point is that "should i root my XL as it new for me(i have only used for only 1 month)"

I buy my phone before 5-6 days and yesterday I root it, because I want to use Xposed framework. For me there is no point to unlock it yet, because there is lack of kernels and roms. Will unlock it when cm10.x rom is stable and usable. So all is up to your needs.

thans a lot for your help
By the way I just rooted my phone (on Android 4.1 I couldn't because I couldn't unlock my bootloader) and it's worth it just because the Xposed Framework. There were some things that annoyed me or some things that I missed from the phone, but with Xposed I could customize it the way I wanted.

Like what they said, if you want to do something on your phone that requires root, the do it.
If your concern is about the warranty, you can always unroot your device anytime, anywhere :good:
Hey Guys -
Recently got my A9 and love it. Was about to go with the Note, but when I found it couldn't be rooted plus no sd card that was it. Anyways, this may be more of a Marshmallow question; but wanted to ask...
Is there a current method to get full access to the sd card system wide or in all apps? On my Shield tablet (5.01 rooted), I could obtain this on its sd by editing the system platform.xml and adding the following line under two similar ones in the section WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE:
<group gid="media_rw" />
Once done and rebooted, any app including file managers had full write access to the sd.
I looked at the platform.xml on my A9 / Marshmallow and it didn't even have a WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE section. I considered adding the section plus either all 3 or just the 1 line above, but didn't want to risk messing anything up due to the new way 6 deals with storage so thought I'd post.
I do realize that you can format a card to Internal storage, but seemingly you don't get to use your phones internal storage if you do. I did try to do it anyways, but had issues.
I put in a brand new 32gb class 10 and attempted to format it internal and it said it was too slow. I proceeded with formatting it, but did not transfer data when prompted. When done, it listed the card as corrupted. I had a 2nd new card of the same model so put it in and repeated the process and it said it too was corrupted. Just ordered a 64gb UHS-3 which I plan to use instead, but would rather have full access as mentioned above.
Does anyone have more info on either of these topics? Thanks!
check this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-a9/help/format-sd-card-internal-storage-issue-t3261842
Yeah, thanks - read that already, but after reread it seems the corruption is due to my A9 still having s-on?
If so, that solves the corruption issue, but what about the platform.XML / full access? Is that simply not a possibility? Thanks

somebody said........
in another forum that other users have the same problem with rooted devices. They say after going back to stock there is no problem to format the ext. as int. Storage.
maybe its not just to have s-off ... otherwise root s-on... I think is an encryption problem.... sorry about my english....
hope a fix soon....
Yea I went root last night and notice i can no longer see my 32gb sandisk card :/
Hmm, so youre saying its not that I need to be s-off, but that to use internal storage I cannot be rooted? If true, are there any known workarounds?
Either way, my plan was to use what I do on my Shield anyways which was obtain full access to the SD card (standard format) then use FolderMount to copy and create symlinks for apps and media. That brings me back to platform.XML question. Anyone know more about it with Marshmallow?

Hi,
Maybe a side effect from rooting :

Cheers
Yeah, seems to be based on few posts I read on that link plus other posts. I rooted by downloading the boot image for AT&T A9 which I flashed via fastboot, installed TWRP, then SuperSU. Is there an alternative method for the A9 currently? Anyone tried the Sunshine app/service which supposedly allows s-off for A9? Wonder if that or whatever other s-off method would fix it. Would STILL would prefer bypassing internal storage altogether and having native full access.
Bad news...
Yesterday, I installed Sunshine and was able to achieve s-off. After rebooting, I found encryption was messed up so performed a full wipe. Once done, I re-rooted (copied su.img to data partition via twrp then installed SuperSU) so then had a properly running system which was rooted AND s-off. Finally, I got in my brand new Sandisk microSDXC 64gb UHS-1 card which has speed up to 95ms/s.
I inserted new card in phone, then formatted it internally via Settings. Towards the end of the format, the same "slow card" notification appeared and once complete it still showed the card as "Corrupted.". I was promoted to copy / move my data to it, but didn't so there's a chance it may work - just report the cards status incorrectly.
I know its not due to a bad card as it is the 3rd brand new one I've tried (other two were Samsung 32gb Evo) with the exact same results. My hope was that s-off would make it work, but guess not.
Think there will ever be a way to be rooted & have internal storage work properly?
Thoughts? Thanks!

OK, root thread said it was for different SD issue and suggested we post in primary SuperSU thread. If having issue, please post there do they know how many are affected and fix it!
Any updates on this?
Verizon samsung galaxy s6 got factory wiped, I tried a variety of solutions to recover the files, all failed. In case anybody else is in the same boat and attempting the same thing, here are the details to save you some trouble.
Model number SM-G920V
Android version 6.0.1
Build number MMB29K.G920VVRU4CPC2
Google- 15 gig limit. I'm trying to recover the files that were created after reaching the limit.
Rooting- as of today I'm unable to find any method of rooting this phone. All research and sources indicate it is currently impossible thanks to Verizon + Samsung shenanigans.
Program Failure reason
Aolor Data Recovery Fails to detect phone
Coolmuster Data Recovery Requires root
Dr Fone failed
Easus Requires root
Fonelab Requires root
FonePaw Android Data Recovery Recovers a few recently deleted files, but otherwise requires root for deep scan
Hdata recovery Not sure if intended for android devices
ilike android data recovery Requires root
MyJad Can’t detect debugging turned on
Pandora Recovery Program fails to function
Power Data Recovery Requires sd card
Recuva Only works with devices with drive letter assigned
Remo Requires sd card
Tenorshare Android Data Recovery Pro Requires root
My pain is your gain! Or at least, my pain is your lack of potentially wasted time. There is no gain to be had here. :crying:
Hello XDA, this is my first time posting here, I need help with my new phone and I don't want to screw it this quickly. If something is wrong with this post or something, please let me know.
My problem is that I tried to root my Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 6039A, starting with this guide, I used the "8GB stock partition" file because I never partitioned my internal storage, but it seems that at the end, my phone already had 16GB internal storage from the beginning, so I shorten up the internal memory. After that guide, I followed another guide (I don't remember which one) to complete the root, but it didn't work. So I ended up with no root and a shorter internal storage.
I want to recover my internal storage and root my phone but it seems there are no guides for my model and I'm afraid that if I try again my phone will end up bricked.
Which guide or which files should I use to recover my storage and root my phone?
Dear fellow Infiniteers,
My name is Hans and I come from Holland.
3 years ago I got my tf700t. It was unlocked and rooted and had a ww_epad-10.6.1.14.8-20130514 bootloader, original TWRP 2.8.7.0 and Cromi-Xenogenesis ODEX 4.7.0 OS and a 16Gb SD-card in the tablet (not dock). The device was so slow that I didn't use it for several months. Ofcoarse the batteries where empty and after charging the tf700t went in a bootloop. On my search on internet I found this great forum, after many hours of reading I managed to flash Android 7.1.2., I lost root but after using Towelroot_V1 I even got root back. Now everything works fantastic. It seems to be an whole other device, Thank you so much developers. I understood it was essential to setup an adb connection, so I did.
I still have to convert my internal memory to F2FS, but need to read more before doing it. This puzzels my a lot. Also I would like a TWRP version that also can handle the dock-SD card, because I want that particular place to keep my backups, flashrom and other flash.zip files.
Now my Questions are:
Should I upgrade my bootloader?
1 For converting internal to F2FS or something else? And
2 Why should I install Kang-TWRP? wich needs 14.10. so I can use the dock sd card for zip's and backups?
Thanks to anyone who reacts.
