Slow phone - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys !
I have a problem. I just received my opo(16 gb white) sunday, and I have some problems with it. It was bought from china and came with colorOS. I flashed cm11s 38r, but the phone is really slow. I mean, multitasking is wayyy slower than on my nexus 5. And app launch is also slower. Little games like Hopeless or Retro Wings lag really bad. Also Smash ( the game with the balls and glass) lags so bag when i reach further into the game , where there are allot of things going on . Scrolling on facebook or google+ is a pain. It's choppy compared to mai nexus 5( witch is running art btw)
I really don't know what's wrong. I flashed multiple times via fastboot, from my pc. Installed franco..but to no result. The same lag. Could it be that my phone is defective? altdough I doubt that because in antutu and quadrant I score normal scores. What do you guys think?

For those who already have the A700,how are you liking it??

I have seen mixed reviews, some saying its a little slow to navigate, display not bright enough?Others say its fine.Any feedback out there?Does it get hot??
Initial reports are the A510 is better due to brighter display, less heat, more battery life and faster performance.
Tegra 3 is probably not very efficient pushing a high res display like this.

I beg to differ. I've both here and only the battery life is better with the A510. The display quality of the A510 is no match for the A700. And I don't see it getting more warmer too. I've tested shadow gun for 20 min (not an heavy gamer) a well a riptide and it doesn't get warmer than its younger brother.
Like already discussed there's an occasional lag buy this is also subjective as everybody sees it differently (but its there).

After playing with both tablets for about a well, the A700 is a keeper while the A510 is going back to Amazon tomorrow. Am very satisfy with the performance of A700.
It has always been the same for every mobile device, there will always be complains because there is no such thing as a perfect device. Some are waiting for the infinity or Huawei HD pad. Be sure to know that, they will also come with different issues.
All the same, everybody should be able to make up their mind about what they need a tablet for and which tablet fit their need. For me the A700 does that so well.
I look forward to testing the 700 as soon Best Buy gets them in.
How is the screen brightness? On the videos that i have seen the screen looks very dark even at full brightness

not at all, brightness is really better than my previous A500!
Better life is good too, performances are very nice.
The only annoying problem is the hot bottom right side of the tablet when I play games, pretty hot at some point.

"Warm" is what I'd prefer to say. "Hot" sounds a bit like it hurts to touch.
The energy of 4 x 1,3 Ghz must go somewhere and it's better the cover gets warm than the CPU is overheating.

The A510 screen is more brighter when watching a movie, but the images are sharper with the A700. I'll try a different video player and report back.
Thanks for the input guys. Keep them coming. How much of a battery life impact has it been in actual practice so far? Less that A510 is expected but just wondering if someone has run quantifiable tests.
Another thing that concerns me is that devs might skip the A510 altogether since A700 will see a lot more buyers although I am hearing locked bootloaders and what not for A700 so far.

Agreeing, it might be unpleasant for some, but not really harmful.
Hm...
I like my a700, but today i tested some "grafic Apps".
Everytime i start Real Racing (preinstalled) or Glowball (tegra zone), some graficbugs apear and the Apps closes.
Anybody similar issues?

Sent from my A510 using XDA Premium HD app
hi there,
.. well i got my a700 on friday .. i the couple of days and in 'half-normal' use i can say some things too ..
.. first, the a700 i quite fast in 3D-gaming .. i installed and played shadow gun, samurai ii and gta-iii .. the heating on the right backside is correct .. but that's the only heat issue ..
.. on the 'laging' thing .. the homescreen is fast and responsive when it's 'virgin' .. it lags with live wallpapers .. i tried the 'water' livescreen and i installed inferno- and ice galaxy livescreen .. on all 3 the touching laged in responce and in swipping the homescreens around for some milliseconds .. also when i have some 'backgroundloading' widgets for twitter and facebook runing it also lags some milliseconds .. but the timerespond feeling is relative to any of us .. as long it's only that what i got till now, it's ok .. i can live with that ..
.. on the battery live i can't complain .. i started the a700 from the unboxing through, playing aroung with wifi and internet updates, mixed with mp3 playing and movie watching, and it lasted about 11 hours before reaching 1% .. pluged it in and in about 4 hours it came up to 100% .. second run was almost as long .. but for 3 days that's ok .. i thing in about a week, playing a few hours with the 3D games we all should know more about battery life ..
.. ah and another thing with movie watching .. when you watch xvid compresed movies, turn the HW decoding off and switch to SW decoding, or the movies will be played in double speed, like in fast forward . lol .. the brighness is ok and the picture is 'crystal clean' on 720p and upward compressed movies .. don't forget that most of the time it's a 1920x1128 screen resolution that has to be filled
.. that's it for the moment
qw1rt2,
Thanks for the info. Do you by any chance have any other tablet to compare the brightness because that seems to be a major concern right now. In almost all videos posted on youtube so far A700 seems to be quite dark compared to other tablets.
I got the A700 a week ago and i'm more than satisfied with it.
It's fluid with a great battery life.
The "heat" just warm up a little your hands, but it's useful for the french weather presently
I didn't have much time to test tegra 3 games but I'll hasteful to
Well I've decided to send both tablets back. Would have kept the A700, but its just not performing very well and is get really warm when playing games (80°-95°). I travel alot to very warm region especially Africa so the tablet will always freezes when it gets too warm. Will wait and see if Acer can rectify some of the issues or what the competition brings to the market before deciding
This is a pity because I was very fond of the A700.

.. i don't have another tablet at home, but i did something different ..
.. i thought that we are all 'practical guys' and some real live testing would be better than to just retype some 'testing under ideal conditions' .. so i took the a700 into town, and took pics from the 700 side-on-side with some other tabs .. the pictures are not the best quality, but the 'light and see-on conditions' are realistik, and u should see the 'big picture' .. fakt is, the display is darker under some conditions .. as you can see in the first two pictures it is not that darker from an sony or toshiba screen in full brightness .. where it definitely looses the brightness case, is against the samsung displays as seen in the two comparison pictures .. something above half the brightness of a samsung, is a full an the acer .. the two other pictures are outdoor pics, one on the window of a café and the other on a table outside of the café ..
.. i thing, just to play something with the words, the acer display isn't 'that darker', it's just 'shadier' .. on the other side, because of this fakt, the contrast is a'killer' and the color feeling is more 'dynamic' ..
.. so and the end i would say it depends on 'why' you buy the a700 .. are you an 'inside rooms' worker or more the 'outdoor' working type .. in the first case, the something darker display will not bother you .. in the second case it will .. extreme sun is not your friend ..

New Italian REVIEW. Looks like the Note 3 lags like the S4.

Here is a new review of the Note 3 in Italian, I don't understand what he is saying but hopefully someone who speaks Italian could translate a certain part of the video.
http://youtu.be/n4bWre9_ghY
Fast forward to 11 minutes and 45 seconds.
Here you will see the reviewer open the browser to a more feature rich website TheVerge, I also use theverge as a good website to test overall browser smoothness.
Once he switches to the full site, the Note 3 seemingly struggles to handle it, it stutters, lags on double tap, freezes and cannot finish rendering the page correctly...Just like the S4 had the same performance issue with high content websites.
My Galaxy S3, Note 2, HTC One, iPhone 5, and LG G2 have ZERO problems with that feature rich website. Only my S4 could not handle it and looks like the Note 3 is the same way. Could somebody who understands Italian translate what he said the issue is? Thank you in advance!

Why not just use youtube's CC translation option?
I don't speak Italian so no clue what he said, but I'll take a wild stab at it and say the problem is her started messing around with the page before it had finished loading in the first place. Combination of a poor internet connection and unrealistically quick zooming and panning.
Also, the Samsung browser is utter rubbish. The answer to any and all complaints about stock browsers is to go download Chrome

Chrome was even worse on my S4 than the stock browser. I also think some of the S-Pen options would be only available to use with the stock browser.

Sadly custom ROMs did not fix any of the lag issues I had with both of my S4's. I tried them all, the only one that came close to being smooth was the GE ROM from the Google S4 but then I lost all the great features of the S4 in the first place, what a conundrum.

mostly all phones do this when things are still loading. even my 4770k desktop will do this at times. i am trying to stay positive for this release since i already pro ordered mine. if it was only that one particular time it did it. i can accept something not so perfect sometimes.. even my lg g2 in some places lags during caching of things. i saw what u mean. its seems the page still was not loaded

It looked great to me; my i7 desktop with dual graphics cards struggles with the Verge because it's a cluster of a website construction wise. If you want a heavy well written website to test try the full version of the WSJ. If I compare my N2 doing the same thing the N3 in that video clip did on the Verge the N3's impressively faster. Before I celebrate or freak out about the N3's performance I want to see what AnandTech, GSMArena, and Notebookcheck DE have to say about it. If Samsung can't get credible performance out of a S-800 (possibly AB) device with 3GB of RAM they may as well call it a day.
This is from GSMArena's "mini-review" so there's no assurance any of these sites that are releasing early information with pre-production s/w are representative of what the final product will be performance wise.
Disclaimer: The following preview is based on a pre-production Galaxy Note 3 and by explicit request by Samsung we won't be posting any benchmark scores and evaluation of the Snapdragon 800's scores. We won't be conducting our usual suite of tests either. We'll leave those for a later occasion when we get a retail review sample.P.S. - Proclamative "OMG! The N3 lags like the SGS4!" and similar posts with such little supporting information are really annoying. The N3 may end up lagging like hell but what you posted didn't influence my opinion one way or the other.
The question I have is. How does the gallery function with lots pictures in it . my note 2 is terrible especially after the 4.1.2 update
I gave up on the twiz gallery all together and used quickpic..

hmm worked well on my hp touchpad running android.
Its hard to tell if there is any lag because the video is recorded with 26 fps . Even his hands look laggy and he is pinching the screen in an odd way.

Barry, if your "i7 desktop with dual graphics card" struggles with a website like TheVerge, you need to seriously do some trouble shooting. My 2 year old HP laptop with a sandy i5 running on integrated graphics has no problems rendering and smoothly browsing around that webpage let alone my gaming 3770k desktop with a GTX 780. I don't know why you are so defensive with the N3, I have two N3s on order, one on ATT and one on T-Mobile so it's not like I'm trolling or trying to make the Gnote3 look bad. I really loved my Note 2, probably the best phone I've had and I am looking forward to the Note 3 but if there is lag issues I want it known and not swept under the rug. This is probably why Samsung is not doing anything proactive to resolve the lag/stutter issues on the S4, if not enough people speak up they will think it's good enough and just let it be.
My Galaxy S3, Nexus 4, LG G2, Note 2 has ZERO problems with any website, TheVerge is silky smooth on all those devices. That webpage brings the S4 to it's knees stock or custom roms, that tells me something is seriously wrong. The S4 actually struggles with the XDA full webpage too, Chrome or stock Browser. I am scared that the same frustrating issues I had on the S4 will carry over to the N3, it seems like the reviewer is trying to show a problem of lag but I don't understand Italian so I was hoping somebody could translate what the issue he had with web browsing.
TW Gallery is awful.. Slow.. Super low quality.. Wasted space etc.
Can't understand a thing... Reviews always do that super fast in and out zoom that makes every browser look funky. Maybe it lags but they need to quit that tactic.

to be fair, the verge is strange. I have a i7 920 and a gtx670 and when i was on windows 7 it would freeze for about 2 seconds. My i5 integrated hp laptop would run it fine. Now that i'm on 8 it no longer does that, but my school computers on core 2 duo still freeze up for a second and they were on 8. No idea what's going on with that website.
WHOEVER does not see the lag, you didn't watch far enough into it. To the one guy who thinks the video is jerky the whole way through... Playback was very smooth on my screen 1080p.
I'm not very good with italian, but it sounds like he said the browsers not ready but still runs very well???

It's a good feature to test on phones. Nobody likes a phone that can't handle pinch to zoom. Showing that it handles it flawlessly is important in modern phones.
The Verge is overrated. Their website often seems to be an extension of Apple marketing. The other day I counted 12 links to Apple articles on the home page (many linked to the same article), and it wasn't even a big news day for Apple. Plus, it seems like their entire site is thrown together by a 12 year old with severe ADHD. It is one of the few websites that I actually prefer the mobile version. I go there only after I check all of my other bookmarks and I am still bored out of my mind.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4
I'm Italian and I saw that mini review... the man tried to open "the verge"... then try a pinch to zoom with two finger, then a zoom in/out with a double tap and the page rendering seems freezed.
He press the exit option as nothing happened and return to home, after few seconds opened another website without any issue in rendering and try another time with the verge. That time seems better and he says that the browser is smooth. IMHO some little problem is still there but could be related to a incomplete loading of the website page, the verge is really heavy. With my note 8 (n5100) I don't have issues.

Exactly.. The browser froze up (not lag). However it was scrolling fine before that point. Could be a thousand reason with so much of media, links, photos embedded in a webpage. chrome on my desktop freezes few times every week. That's verge webpage, a very heavy one. Something that happened a few times for me on many devices. No matter which device you get, it will lag and it will freeze once in a while.

Most stupid statement I heard today.

[Q] Nexus 5 vs. LG G3 // Which should I buy?

So hey people, let me start off by saying how much I loved my N5, that is, until some poor crackhead took it from me this morning, but anyway, I mean I LOVED IT: The new camera picture modes (Fisheye, 360º, etc), Lollipop coming to it much sooner than any other phones, which also made it even more butter smooth and quicker when oppening apps (sorry, I just cannot deal with lag and fps stuttering, I just can't), the time I saved just by making voice notifications, how sleek the design was... For me that phone was the state of the art android phone. Only bad thing about it was overheating a bit too much when dealing with heavy load (Games, screen on maximum brightness, camera recording). Sometimes I'd be scared it would just shut down from the heat lol, but I could cope with that though. Oh and also the mic was absolute horsecr*p when recording from the camera. Yep. Horse. Cr*p.
Long story short, I need a new android phone and I'd totally be buying the N5 again, if I just hadn't laid eyes on the G3. MAN, what a phone, it's even faster than the N5 (In processing terms at least, because in geekbench and similar tests the N5 won most of the times), the camera being so much better, that visual, THAT GODDMAN VISUAL, IT LOOKS SO NICE. But then again, I'd be sacrificing two of the biggest reasons I got an N5 in the first place: Updates before any other phones (android 6 just 'round the corner yo...) and the pure android experience. Not just that, the google cards when swiping right from the home screen were very useful to keep track of news, game scores, etc. I've been doing some research this afternoon on both phones and I did find some good prices for both. Now what I can't decide is which one to get, because I love the gorgeous look of the G3 and those boss specs, but I also want to keep getting updates first and taking them 360º shots (kind of got addicted to it teehee).
So, can you guys list what do you think of both? Thanks in advance people!

How about a G2? Shouldn't cost any different than a Nexus 5, has the same internals but a much bigger battery and a far better camera. Software isn't stock Android, but you can always flash a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod or Paranoid Android. Custom ROMs are typically very "stock" in appearance and function, but with some added features that you can choose to use or ignore as you wish. Speed of custom ROMs are often better than stock Android because they'll use newer kernel sources.
I don't think I'd be considering getting a phone from 2 generations ago (except for the N5 because of the updates) so I'd go with the G3 instead because it's newer and faster than the G2, and will probably handle the next updates better than it.

Mi4i or asus zf2

Hello friends, i have a nexus 4 from past 2 years and this phone is rock solid till date but just bored of this so wanna buy a new phone under 15k only, i have been looking these two devices from many days, mi4i has a brilliant display which is attracting me towards it and zf2 has a solid hardware plus mmc slot(however mmc slot is not my priority), yesterday it was the third time that mi4i was successfully added to my cart on flipkart but due to some bad reviews about mi4i that is poor performance and heating problem, i did not buy it, if its a software part then i am quite indulged in flashing stuff and i will not have any problem in flashing new roms, but if its hardware prob than i won't buy such device.
I just want the help of existing users that does this device really heats a lot even after new software update, and is there any performance issues on this phone, as many people saying thay are having lags while playing games or videos.
A brief suggestion would be appreciable

I was looking at both phones when i was looking for a spare phone. I didn't get the zf2 because i didnt like the power button placement on the top. The mi 4i also feels much nicer in the hand and so far it has been a good little phone for me. Just the 16gb is a little limited

If it heats near the camera while playing heavy games then i think its completely ok as my nexus 4 even gets too hot sometimes when i play heavy games, but some users are reporting that the fone even gets too hot while they are on a call, and what about camera howz its performance in low light

Heating issue. With each update its getting less annoying for me it heats like a regular phone which I have used for before nvr only gets warm while gaming
Display- best feature
Speaker- are low
Miui- my opinion it sucks
Battery- best
Build- premium feel

The area around the camera only gets warm and it's really not bad. Battery life is great, miui is ok, performance is quite good, screen quality is awesome. So far i am happy with it. Currently using it at my daily driver since i just got back my note 4 from service center.

Oneplus 6 for $400 8gb ram good buy?

I know all u phones are coming out but i have a few question.
Are the speaker that bad even with the new updates.
Second is the lag/stutter
I know this phone is the fastest and snappier. But i hate scrolling stutter and lag in the ui apps. For example. Twiter app on my gs8 was a lag fest while on my ex pixel 2 xl was buttery smooth. Same for facebook. Does stutter lag occurs?

speaker...is still average ....but other than that.... oneplus 6 is a complete beast go for it.... and $400 is gr8 deal !!
For me the speaker is a hardware issue so no update can impact it.
Having said that I have no issues with the speaker.. Could be of course better (but that is true for many other phones as well) but it's completely usable for me
And I experience no stutter in any app - the phone is very smooth and super fast for me...
The price you got is a very good price go for it!
Hells yeah
buy it!
Hard to say no to that price...
Do it. Lol
e buy it
Impression with my new OP 6 is that I don't see any issue that they said on review apply to me at all
speaker: it's not good, but not bad, and occasionally listen to music while in the bath with the phone in the cup still sounds good enough for me (I'm not audiophile but I do pay attention to sounds if it's not suit my taste) also V4A seems to help it
lag/stutter: yes, it does have that, but it's rare, like, really rare. I think I just experienced it twice since I got the phone, and it's just a quick one, maybe mere second, not a big deal.
I want to point out that some said battery is not good (and it does look like that on spec compared to other phones) but I totally have no issue and I'm a medium user, never need to desparately looking for a place to charge. And once you use Dash charge, I think you will be amaze, I don't know how I will live without it anymore, I will get Dash instead of wireless any day at least for a few years.
speaker quality isn't great, but it's audible. stereo mod and v4a makes it a bit better.
if speaker is a concern because you want to be gaming it might be terrible since it's really easy to cover up the bottom facing speaker.. but it's hard to beat the phone at retail price, personally wound't hesitate at $400

This phone never lags.
$400 is a GREAT prince
The speaker.... its pretty bland when holding it in the air. BUT it's actually made to sound great on a flat surface. It uses the phone, flat surface, and speaker to produce a good sound. I actually love it like that.
I don't know why people are complaining about the OP6 speaker. It sounds a hellova lot better than my older phones. My older phone's speakers were like listening to an AM radio station. At least the OP6 has some bass to it and sounds more like an FM radio station. It's not on par with the LG G7's speaker with it's resonance chamber, I had on it works. But that is just about the only thing the G7 had going for it, crappy screen with terrible light bleed, the cameras were sub par, the pictures taken looked good as long as you didn't zoom in on them because then you would see just how low detail photo's it takes. More MegaPixals doesn't necessarily translate to a better picture. It's the sensor's pixal size and the aperture size that counts. My only complaint with the OP6 is the focal distance of the camera's, the crop is way too close and the fisheye effect of objects with vertical lines.

You can get this by using a custom ROM like liquid remix its buttery smooth and has pie
$400 seems like a good price, but what are you getting and what's in the package? Is it a brand new phone? Is it the 64GB/6GB RAM version or are the specs higher than that? Will you be fully covered by warranty? OP has some specials where you could get a couple of extras with the phone for free, at least in the US. It's great to get a discount, of course, but it's not worth that much if you're not fully covered in case something goes wrong during the warranty period.
