[Q] Basic questions before I buy the Z3 - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
After lots of thinking on whether to go for the Z2 or Z3, I have finally decided to upgrade to the Z3 from my Xperia S, personally, think its worth the extra amount! Going to get it a few hours from now and just wanted to know a few answers,
1. Google Play Services...this is the most annoying thing in my S too! Is there ANY way at all to turn this charge-eater off without having to root the Z3? If yes, please tell how.
2. Is is the Style Cover Window, the Sony cover officially available?
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/style-cover-scr24/
Any idea where I can get this in India? (without having to import, customs would probably charge me more than the actual cost of the cover here :silly:
3. Heard there were a few finger prints sticking on to the back of the black model. Not actually a big problem, but am just curious. Am thinking of getting the Copper Brown one..does it show finger prints too? How is the Copper brown colour btw? Seen it on pictures ofcourse, but would love to know if the people who went and got that actually liked it too or felt it was not what they expected!
4. Maybe not related to this thread and a noob question, but I really want to know this too. I have synced all my photos and got all my Contacts on the dropbox. How do I save my texts now? I want to be able to view all my texts from the S on the Z3 too. Is that possible? Not just the default messaging, even the Whatsapp. Heard Whatsapp back-up and restore was not that simple! Lastly, though I really want to have EVERYTHING ( contacts, texts, chats, photos ) except the apps, from my phone S to the Z3, is it advisable to do so? Am afraid doing so might result iin the phone not being as good as getting the new phone and starting it fresh.

1. The only option would be to disable Google app and all location services - I tried it on my old Xperia Z and it seemed to have worked. BUT on Z3 there is no need to worry about it. Play Services v.6.0 work well, no battery drain issues.
2. The cover is available in UK. I believe you could get one from eBay without having to pay customs.
3. Wouldn't worry about that - it is a glass back, so a) of course it is a fingerprint magnet and b) you probably want to stick a screen protector on both front and back. If you use a film protector on the back - you won't have problems. It will still collect fingerprints, but they will be extremely easy to clean. Also, remember that your new phone would be waterproof - washing it is actually a valid option - believe me, I tried
4. You can import/export texts from whatsapp - but I doubt there is a way to do it with stock messaging app, at least not without root.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you, that cleared almost my doubts. Wish I could get those messages from the stock messaging too! Just one last question ... did you import all contacts, photos, chats etc into your new Z3 too? Thinking of trying out that Xperia transfer app. Not sure if it would work alright or if there is a better method?

Transfer app should be good enough, I used built in transfer app from HTC and LG when I had them. The Z3 transfer app should be just as good.

Hi,
I used the Xperia Transfer Mobile app to copy all of my messages (sms/mms) as well as the call log from my old Xperia T to the Z3.
Whatsapp wasn't any harder, I just copied the Whatsapp folder from XT's internal sdcard to Z3's internal memory before launching the app for the first time.

What's up with Play Services? It's one of the most important parts of Android. Stop that and you stop all sorts of functionality including emergency security updates.

I didn't need to transfer anything as everything I needed was already on my Google account ( contacts, mail etc. ) and I keep all my photos on my PC, just transferring them via USB ( I'm a bit old-fashioned I guess ). But Xperia Transfer might be able to help, I hear it does pretty good job.

Well, there was a big problem with Play Services that was plaguing versions 4.4.X - 5.X but it appears to have been fixed in 6.0

Need an app developed for the T9193? Anyone interested?

Guys, I'm interested in buying this phone http://negrielectronics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=9193&order=relevance&dir=desc but my problem is my eyesight and I need something that enlarges everything on the phone. NOT just the font when you write or something.
Less space between icons, utilizing the space better and instead of like the way the iphone was (sample)
John Smith 888-444-555
Have something more like this
John Smith 888-444-555
You know, use the space instead of just wasting it.
I tried years ago with my LG 9800 putting people's pics on there so I could see who was calling and still, they wouldn't let me use the whole screen for the picture but only a small portion in the middle.
With the help of one of the guys here, I found this http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/advanced-configuration-tool.html but of course, unless I have the phone, I can't test it.
The same guy suggested I get someone here to help me and write something for me so here I am.
I found this DROID app that says "Font Size globally enlarges text in all apps (Email, SMS, Maps, Home, Weather, Calendar, Widgets, ...)."
That's kinda what I want but possibly even bigger icons to boot.
Now, for my use and where I am, I have been recommended the 9193 so it would be great if someone here that has one could do something and show me how big things can get (if this is possible).
Thanks
George
Hi George and welcome.
I am sure someone on XDA can help you out.
I will move your thread to the Themes and Apps forum where you will probably get a better response.
Good luck with this venture, hope you find what you seek.
WB
Thank you Mr. Banana sir
I hope I can get some help too. Man, I can't believe this should be so hard. I mean, I'm not the only ol' fart around am I?
'preciate it
Oh, and I changed the title since you moved it.
Thanks again
George
There is a global "text size" setting which can be changed in WM. It will change the text for most of the system. Unfortunately some programs do not obey this setting and will default to small fonts - there's not much you can do about those programs though rather than get the developer to rewrite them.
I´m using zoo(o)mer a program that enlarges your sight.
Just try .
Guys, I don't have the actual phone nor do I have access to one.
Is there anyone here that can do this and show me a screen capture or something?
Ideally, putting it on a scanner and scanning it would be great. That way the size of the unit is accurate and I can compare it to other phones.
Thanks
George
Get one and add stuff
I have the T9193 and Zoomer is about your best bet at the moment, it will allow pinching to enlarge in most programs and areas in the phone.
When it comes to the phone calls etc there are some great apps developed on here that enlarge keys etc and use the vast space of the screen so blokes like us can see to do what we need to do without glasses.....mostly.
I use Iconsoft Phonex 2.2 for the dialer app, everything is nice and large!
Zoomer works great.
The phone is brilliant so get one add zoomer and Phonex and you will be very happy.....mostly...there will be the odd spot to annoy you but you will be able to live with it.
Well, I may have to take your word for it and of course, if I don't like it, I can just send the phone to you for a refund, right?
Seriously though, that sounds good.
Don't suppose you're in a position to do some screen captures, video or a scan of the phone so I can see what I'm doing?
Where do I get the zoomer and phoenix and how much are they?
Are you running 6.5 on there and is there anything different in 7?
Thanks guys
George
PhoneEx is good. But when I try to send an email from the contact of PhoneEx, "send from" will be "outlook mail'. Is it possible to change it to "hotmail", if yes, how?
Thanks a lot!
Is outlook mail the only choice?
Mind you, I would probably do it directly from the server like I do now but still, I hate outlook
give it a search... im quite sure there are lots of solutions instead of using outlook.
(p.s. I dont have mobile internet plan so i dont use the email function that often. but im sure you will come up with lots of solutions. the hd2 is great )
Hell, as long as it does the other stuff I want it to do, that's gonna be a minor thing since I tend to do my mail directly from the mail server anyway. I was just curious.
I'm hoping to get a reply on the zoom and phonex questions soon and I might go ahead and buy the phone tomorrow or something.
Thanks guys
George
Guys, while I'm at it, I just realized I should post my "wish" list here for you to comment on it and what's available and not on the 9193.
I actually sent this to Negrielectronics.com and they've been working with me to find the right phone so again, I want to put a plug for them 'cause they've been great!
Anyway, here it is in "kinda" order of importance to me...well, except for the first few, they are just questions I added later.
Cell Phone Wish List
1. Voice recording for PHONE conversations
2. Voice recording for other conversations, as in voice memos with built in mic.
3. Phonebook limited to memory size or are there size limitations?
4. Can I import my information from my Palm PDA?
5. Ability to have LARGE Letters and Numbers
6. LOUD RINGER and ability to put any ring tone on it. I will attach the one you put on the last phone so you can see it.
7. Loud Volume on phone
8. Loud Volume on speaker
9. Function as modem for getting online. NOT a must but would like to.
10. Pop e mail so I can check my mail if I want to.
11. Good browser capabilities (think iPhone)
12. Large clock so I can see it easier. You know, when the phone is in standby mode and you want to check what time it is. I love the clock that’s show in the picture of the HTC Touch HD2 T9193
13. Predictive dialing (I liked this from the HTC Vox that you let me try. Very cool. You dial and it keeps trying to guess which number you want. I’d LIKE this but NOT a requirement.
14. Latest Bluetooth version
15.
16. PREFER Real keyboard but not a requirement. I’ve gotten used to dialing on the screen and I don’t text at all.
17. GSM/3G/Fast Internet speeds. Probably going to use it on AT&T. I was never very happy with Verizon and for me at least, ATT worked better. Note, Ryan recommended T-Mobile and I will probably go with that, if nothing else but for the cost.
18. I don’t need a whole lot of the cool gadgets and features on it. I don’t do music or watch videos or download stuff. If it has a good browser like the iphone, that would be great but I mainly want a good PHONE. Camera is good to have and I do actually use it. Liked the one on the iphone and that the lens wasn’t too damn wide. That always pisses me off.
19. I would like a way to connect a corded headset, preferably without adapters.
20. I don’t care if it’s windows or not as I don’t plan on having letters and spread sheets on it. I have PDA’s for that.
21. At least 500 numbers in the phone book. Maybe predictive
22. I do NOT want a flip phone!
23. If it has keyboard on the front, I need LARGER buttons, NOT like the blueberry. My fingers are too thick for that.
24. Also, I would like the option to return it to you if it doesn’t work with my hands free in the car. Just like I did with the Vox and I would be happy to pay some fee for this if necessary.
25. As a phone, the Vox was superior to the iPhone but two things I didn’t like. Size of everything of course and it sucked at displaying web pages. I would actually like to change my requirement. I WOULD like something that displays web pages as well as the iPhone does. It did a beautiful job and I MAY need this feature in the future so if you guys are going to recommend something with a little larger screen, type HTC or iPhone, then I would like something that displays the web pages properly. Of course, it could be that they all do that now, I don’t know.
26. Ryan, I talked to Kenwood to find out which Bluetooth version it had as the handsfree unit was built in but they had no clue. Big surprise there. THIS is the unit I have from Kenwood (DNX8120) and although they didn’t have a list of compatible phones, there is a page on their site where one can look up the compatibility so I’m sending you that instead so that when the guys find a phone that’s suitable for me, they or I can go online and check it.
http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/bt/index.php In the first drop down menu on the left, select DNX8. underneath select DNX8120 and under that, select INCLUDE and then on the right, find the phone I’m getting.
Well, I think this is about what I can come up with.
IF I get a laptop with built in wireless that I can use would I have to have an account for that and again, would I be stuck with the higher priced plan or how does that work
I've got a phone, nah nah nah nah nah nah...
Alright boys, I went with the Desire for AT&T from Negri Electronics (and by the way, if someone wants one, they've got 50 of them coming in monday or tuesday) so I need to ramp up the search for apps to make me see things better
Oh, and linky if someone wants it http://negrielectronics.com/htc-desire-a8183-android-att-850-us-na-3g-unlocked.html
They've got other versions if you don't want AT&T by the way.
Later yall

Got my sensation.. where to begin?

I finally got my phone today. I am new to android, and actually i am new to smartphones.. this is my first smartphone and i decided that if i get myself one im going big and im getting the sensation
my question is.. where to begin with? like i just have the phone in my hand.. what is the first thing i should do or configure on the phone? i know its maybe a big question, but any help on how to setup the phone in the best way would be appreciated, as like i said, it is my first smartphone
thanks
Just go through the initial setup and then just use it. Change the home screens to your liking, download some apps and enjoy the handset. There's not a lot else to do as yet

Put it through it's paces I reckon to see everything is working out of the box. Sign up to gmail so you can use the market.
Use the GPS, internet, Youtube etc etc. Make sure everything works as they should.
Setting up the screen is already done for you just go to settings>Personalize and pick "Scene" or "Skin" to begin with.
Watch a quick Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=How+to+operate+HTC+Sensation&aq=f
But you can customize it to your liking. Watching some videos will makes things quicker to pick up if you're new to Android phones.
Import your numbers to your sd card and then back to your google account, that way you won't lose your numbers if you lose your phone and when the time comes to upgrade to a new phone, you only have to sign in and you can have all your numbers back automatically, oh and your apps will come back too.
Sign into any emails you have and make sure that any new numbers you get you save to google and they will be kept too.
Try whats app and communicate for free across multiple platforms (supports BB, Iphone, symbian and Android) it's kinda like BBM, sign into facebook, twitter everything you have an account for and then sit back and let the phone do the rest, for me this is were HTC Sense stands alone, no other phone integrates social networking better.
Test your GPS out with the Navigation, join latitude and most importantly, make it your own.
Congrats on your new phone.
From all apps menu open "show me"
Very helpful info
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App

Sure, if your numbers are on your sim then go to your people (phone book) press menu and click import / export, then import from sim, then select google.
If they're on your actual phone because you've input them one at a time, then click on import / export again and select export to sd card, then straight after it, press menu and click on import / export again, then click import from sd, when it asks where to? you say to google.
After you've done that simply click on menu from the phone book, go to view and just select google, as you have already moved them over.
PS: It may take a moment to sync all the contacts over so if it's dragging it's heels, make sure you have a good connection at the time ie: 3G upwards, preferably WIFI, and press menu, settings, accounts and sync and sync google.
That should sort that out for you
Not sure if you know this but when you save your numbers to google, it also means that you can't lose your numbers and if you change your phone, all you will have to do is sign into your google account and the numbers will come flooding back on their own, this will work for apps too, providing you've told your phone to do so.
Once you've done this with your phone, it won't make any difference what sd card you have in your phone.
As for juice defender, no not really, just go to accounts and sync, tell the phone not to sync stocks and news and weather all the time oh and facebook, just do them manually, i tend to leave google alone and allow it to sync, last thing you need is you turn off google, forget to sync in a month and you lose all the contacts which you aquired in that time!
Juice defender and the like are nifty apps but not really needed unless you have probs with your battery, your not going to get much more than a day from any Smart phone these days besides a nokia 6200000 or whatever they're called, just try to preserve what you can, turn off wireless communications unless you need them, like GPS, WIFI, mobile data and bluetooth.
Like i said b4 alter your account settings for different services, alter the brightness of your phone and when you get the chance to root properly, get autostarts and set up some rules for your phone so your not starting up programs that you don't need, autostarts is like a task killer, but instead of killing open apps and actively running in the background all the time, it actually sets the rules for them so they can be told not to open before they do, sounds hard but it's really easy
Task killers aren't recommended, they kill processes which shouldn't be killed, 99 - 100 people on XDA will tell you that, the other 1 is probably the bloke who moans about having a crap battery all the time
dladz, thank you very very much for the elaborated answer. it is greatly appreciated.
about the battery.. i noticed that i cant see battery percentage like other here are showing.. i see stats but i dont see in percentages how much is left, only in a green line that when it goes down it gets orange and then red.
would i need to install juice defender if i wanna see accurate percentages?
if you have in mind any more useful and necessary apps that i should download and install, it would be great.
When you get it all set up,go and read about the problems others are having and see if you can live with them, example my bluetooth has a bad background noice rendering it almost useless,I thought it was the headset I was using but turned out it's the phone so if a s/w update doesn't fix it then I will have to send it back to HTC,just got it back from a loose charging port fix.So basically if you need to exchange it don't wait like me and have to send it in for warranty repair.

Get the Battery Widget by Elvison.
It will do what you are looking for
Don't obsess over the battery
Congrats on your purchase, I hope you enjoy android and your phone as much as I do. Everyone here has experiences fast battery drain when they get their new phone. The reason is because they're using their new phone a whole lot simply because it's a new phone. It's not rocket science. Just be sure to charge it whenever you can and you'll be fine.
Be sure to check out the free apps in the android market. The thing I love most about android is the voice command ability, and how it's so tightly knit into all of googles services. "text - Mary", "Call - Teresa", "Navigate to In N Out". You can also use voice to text to dictate an email while on the road. Have fun.

Your more than welcome m8, hope it helped.
As for the battery, i would put up with it until we are able to permanently root our devices, get a custom recovery on there and the rom's will come flooding in, then there will be a percentage over the battery on your home screen (up the top)
There are apps which will give you a read out, too many to mention but they run in the background and I could do without that and for that reason i wouldn't recommend them because i wouldn't get them, if you don't mind the app running then there are loads on the market.

I'm from Liverpool born n bred and believe me, the people who made the voice recognition did not have scousers in mind when it was made.
I've had some pretty strange things come out of what i've said to my phone, needless to say some other people with strong accents will have the same problem it's funny tho.
If i speak the queens then it works perfect but i must sound like a right tit.
another question i have.. when i download an app or a game from the market.. how do i know if this app\game should be installed on the phone or on the SD card?
Is there an option to to choose where to install the app? (i dont think i have seen an option to choose)

Not so much an option, rather the ability to move it afterwards.
So if an app is installed on my SD card and then im switching cards, then i will have to install this app again right?
Your phone will still know that the app is installed but the files will have shifted so it won't open it or it will force close.
best thing to do is to get a decent SD card and just take care of it, personally when I really install a rom, I clear all the data on it by formatting the card, that way you get a fresh slate.
I back up co pilot and some games my pics, tunes and videos. The reat can be re iinstalled.
Got it... well, i ordered a 16GB card so until the card arrives i will wait with installations

with Nexus 5 & new to Android Ecosystem, need suggestion

With a heavy heart i have to keep my SEx1 aside and have entered to Android Ecosystem.
I'm a customized freak & made my X1 ROM super stable with my super minimalistic custom rom's, im still going to use that as my primary portable music gear, but for rest of the things Google Nexus 5 is the new companion.
Kitkat is whole new world for me, used gingerbread a a little bit but both are poles apart. hence need some suggestion to keep myself educated with latest trends and tech. Please ignore my noobe-tagged question. So here i start:
No Lollipop ? ?
As broadcasted nexus devices should be the first one to get Android 5.0, Lollipop.
Im yet to get any update & currently running 4.4.4. Any words on when could i expect Lollipop upgrade in my device.
[I don't want to root/ flash until my device is out of warranty].
Contact Backup & Google sync:
a) When starting the device for first time, it prompted me to use google account credential, i did, and it dumped all thousands of my gmail contact in phonebook. Too bad. i have manually deleted all of them from phonebook. and switched-off auto sync.
b) it refused to sync my contact form X1, which was back uped in outlook under win7. Found an alternative, transfered all my contact via bluetooth to nexus 5 and imported them one-by-one. Again when importing in batches, it gives error, which is kind of helpful for me. I only imported selected contact and not the obsolete 8 yrs old contacts
Now the question: How my Sync my contacts without downloading email-contact from gmail. Another gmail account doesn't seems to be ideal as i use email, calendar, drive from this mail. Please suggest.

a) I like to keep my phone at minimals. used mycolorscreen- Themer for few days, which let me customize to what i want till great extent. but its getting corrupt by it own at random times, spoiling my widgets location & functionalities and sometime replacing wallpaper with "black" and have uninstalled it now.
Do we have anything similar to HTC / touchflow full screen animated weather for android? roa any alternative to themer which let me customize N5?
b) Lockscreen customization like changing the background according to themer wallpaper and add few information like battery level, weather, etc. I goggled DashClock please let me know what you guys think about it or any other recommendation.
Few App recommendation
Fitness tracker : currently using Pedometer by j4velin, which is good, but it doesn't give me much control, no difference in distance covered if you running or walking, no actual track of distance covered as it derived from the stride length we enter in the setting. Any recommendation in this please ? should i try Google fit app ?
Pulse Light Controller N5 seriously missing "things" in this department, apart from default white glow of unleaded sms, i never noticed any other indication. they should have provided a notification for low-battery and missed call. Currently using Light Flow but i hate its presence always in my notification area. what's XDA's thoughts in this please? I dont need anything with bells and whistles, just a minimal app which show me red light when my battery is low & some other-then-white-color from unreaded SMS & missed calls.
Vibrate on call connect Got ExDailer but im clueless how to make it the default dialer. Also i liked the stock dialer is there any way to make it vibrate when a call connects, i have to install 3rd party app on my phone
Cache cleaner
as im playing installing, uninstalling lots of stuffs these in these experimenal days what would be a recommended app for this, if its mandatory. have used this bloatware Clean Master in my X10i earlier which killed the phone in multiple ways. any other recommendation please, i just want to clean junk files and do not want any antivirus and gold plating.
Thanks in advance.

OTAs are a rollout. They don't give it to everyone at the same time.
You can sideload the OTA instead of waiting, and you don't have to unlock the bootloader for that.
There is also no point in "keeping warranty" since the only way to tell is if you have bootloader unlocked/or tamper flag is left triggered. Bootloader is easily re-locked and the tamper flag isn't that big of a deal to reset unlike on many other devices (you can do it with apps lol..). There is no other way to tell unless you blatantly have modified software. Of course, if the device was defective to the point where it doesn't boot up, then the bootloader/tamper flag/any sort of software doesn't even matter anyways. Also, if you bought from the Play Store, Google will even let you send it in with a custom ROM and kernel if you wanted to.

Mass delete your obsolete contacts from gmail: https://www.google.com/contacts/ then sync them afterwards.

I don't use fitness trackers so I can't say anything about them. The Nexus 5 has a hardware pedometer rather than using sensors like accelerometer/gps/etc to determine steps, which saves a LOT of battery but obviously can't determine distance.
There are a multilude of LED apps.
Cache cleaners are useless since you can wipe cache in recovery anyways, including stock recovery. If you mean for cleaning in general, I don't use anything myself as I don't find it any necessary, but some others do.

Are far as this is concerned, there really isn't any big thing with the Nexus 5 that would not be applicable to other phones. Just read around the forums to see if anything piques your interest.
Thanks for the reply.
I will wait some more time for official OTA update, in the meantime exploring the device. once i done i will do a factory reset anyways
contact things is easier to manage in Gmail interface, thanks for pointing out. Took hours to clean all the contact, but feel good after housecleaning

Need Advice

Hey Guys, so ive decided i would like to take the plunge and go with custom roms for my perfectly fine Sony Z3, the only issue i have is actually storage/bloatware, it seems every update just fills my phone with more stuff i dont need and where all the storage space goes is beyond me, i literally have all my media and chosen apps stored on my SD card but still have to go through stuff clearing cache/data to be able to install updates or a new app.
anyway looked around at a few different roms and a few YouTube videos on rooting, but the reason I am directly asking here is because its clearly obvious you guys are the best on the web when it comes to these things, so my questions for advice are, is there a specific piece of software i should use to root and if any of you have experience with roms on Sony phones whether good or bad, what should i look out for and ultimately what would you recommend, i actually like the Sony software, the cameras apps are really cool (panorama/time-shift burst etc..) would i still be able to use them, PlayStation app remote play could i still have it, also I have a Sony TV and if I am viewing photos i can cast to my TV instantly would i lose that ability.
thanks

Android 8.0 Oreo and Sony-xperia-XZ-Premium

Oreo dropped yesterday for the pixel etc. How quick or slow is Sony with getting out major releases?
dude watch your life, they will release it when it's ready..............
Predictions made here http://www.androidauthority.com/android-8-0-update-784308/
It will release when its ready Enjoy your device until then
I hope they implement Treble. Might mean we're able to root without messing up the camera.
Ha, what condisending replies. My life is good thank you and I already enjoy my device. Just trying to start a discussion on the matter.
Well it better arrives fast, the Bluetooth issue is really annoying me, can't enjoy the device as I wish I could.
At least three months
Sent from my G8141 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Can't we get the bugs squashed in this version before we move on to another one? Everybody wants the latest greatest as if it will fix everything when in reality all it does is introduce new bugs and then this whole merry-go-round of complaints starts all over again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, etc., etc.
I think we get the point...at least I wish somebody would!
The official 8 release isn't even out yet, it's still in beta. OEMS only work with official releases.

I don't know what rock you have been under but 8 is very much out since a few days back, and OEMs absolutely receive early versions to start preparations.
Since Oreo was only released 4 days ago and probably been uploaded to AOSP only 3 days don't expect Oreo on other devices for like 2-3 months at least..

Treble is only to update faster. Messing with the camera quality when unlocking is a Sony thing
I'd rather have sony update the device with better software for the camera and speakers than the crappy whatever they are using right now. Sony's hardware works like...
... you know when you have a device hooked to your PC and it basically works, but you can't use 100% of its potential because you're using Windows drivers and not the Device's proper drivers...
Well that's how Sony's "anything" works.
xD

I would say they are rather fast with updates now.
The reason for that is they cutting the costs policy which means they removed so many features / functiones we had in the past to cut the costs that it is almost ugly, stock Android...
Then they does not need to spend money on adopting all these features/functions to newer versions, so we paid them the money and not receiving what we paid for. Note this policy to cut the costs on software continue and we should expect even more features to be removed in time. Instead, they will provide useless 3D scanner, but I wonder what will be the number of new features Sony (and not Google) will provide versus the ones being removed. So far they removed more or less:
1. Small apps
2. Radio
3. Many good looking and useful widgets (including Album widget, previous Weather widget, camera widget, recent calls etc.)
4. Lock screen widgets
5. Most of dedicted apps for the camera (Burst, Info etc.) and even "+" button in camera app yahoo (even if you will download a Sony camera dedicated app from Google Play like Horror and install it it will not be visible in the systm or camera app, they need to prevent you from using it as they know better what you want to use, not you!)
6. Useful battery graph (now you do not know for how long your device is actually running, most important is some blind prediction for how long it still will be running - of course made of crystal ball)
7. Xperia keyboard, now you have pathetic swift without the option to use old one
8. Messages, the good messaging app was taken away, now we have stupid google one, where even so simple information like telephone number is not easily visible for each message thread, you need to dig into options as this important information is of course hidden now. New feature is that now both app icon and app itself is ugly like h ell.
9. Contacts - see point above
10. Calendar - see point above
11. Double tap to wake - yes, it has been taken away as well blush
12. Screen recording
13. My Xperia service (to locate your device), well you can download any crapware from Google play right? Why do you need this? Why do you need this phone at all? You can buy any other that has these features.
14. Screen mirroring
15. MHL
16. DualShock 3 support
17. Stock Android live wallpapers

Screen Mirroring is still here. Works perfectly with my Sony Bravia.
Edit: Apparently the Xperia Keyboard app dissappeared again from the PlayStore. It was available there a month ago :/

Absolutely right! TrackID service has been killed which annoys me as nothing works as well, they are pushing us to use Shazam but the comparison between the two apps shows that TrackID is far superior to Shazam. But, if you go to APKMirror website and search for Sony apps, you can find most of the things they have removed as stand-alone APK's and they are compatible up to Android Nougat.
I just purchased my XZ Premium, it is due for delivery tomorrow and I am still using my immaculate Z5 Premium, but if there are lots of Sony apps missing that I am used to using on my Z5 Premium, I may have to send it back or rather not upgrade to Oreo and get the apps off APKMirror for Nougat.
Dual Shock 3 support is gone on 8.0?
Mines working now on 7.1.1
