i pleasant day to all. i'm new to this forum and i'm a noob as well. i got a problem with my android phone. i took out the SD card to transfer data faster but by the time i inserted it back, the phone undergoes boot-loop process. i reboot the phone several times, take out the battery and waited for few minutes but no success, so i followed the procedure online to back up the users data by pressing the volume up and power button. it provides an option to save data in SD card with an extension of .backup. i cleared and reset phone to factory default and be able to gain access my phone. the problem is, i tried to restore data from the back file but as soon as i restored it it undergoes boot-loop process again. i just need my contacts and important messages. my questions are:
1. ) Is there a way to extract contacts and messages from userdata.backup file by copying the file in computer ?
2.) If its possible to extract, what software i need to use to extract it?
3.) Is there a way to enable usb debugging in the phone using a computer through a data cable?
hoping for your generous reply and thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I'm here with a pretty annoying problem, my Touch Cruise is blocked on the boot screen (the one where we can see the different ROM versions).
I was planning a hard reset, but didn't had the time to make a backup of the data on it. (To be more precise, I had the time to backup the SMS in "my documents" folder, but it stalled when I wanted to copy the backup to the sd...)
Is there any way to copy files from internal memory to SD card, before doing the hard reset ?
I will be forever grateful to anyone who will be able to help me to get my files back
Hi,
I also have this proble. If I want make hard reset of the phone. The phone nothing do.
Sorry for my english
i have same problem but i dont care about data, i have backup.
i put http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554071 that rom, all was ok, then i start restoring my contacts, msgs from backup and then device reset itself and i have info :
the device is unable to boot because either you have turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an application from untrasted source . press send to reset your device or press any other button to cancel. this operation will delete all your personal data and restore the device to its factory defaults

Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card... if you want to hard reset the device follow the procedure as below : To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device.
2. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
HTC Touch Cruise Polaris Hard reset Soft reset
Release the buttons, and then press SEND on your device to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Sorry for the delay, I wasn't following this thread..
Using Active Sync wasn't an option, as the phone didn't even boot... I finally choosed the hard reset..
A few days ago I entered phone hell. At the time, the phone was on the last stock upgrade from AT&T, wasn't even rooted and didn't have a custom recovery. Short story is that it soft bricked out of nowhere for no apparent reason. I finally gave up on fixing it, installed TWRP recovery, did a Nandroid backup, wiped everything twice and reinstalled stock through Odin. Fortunately the Nandroid backup recovered my data and my apps, so I was able to selectively restore through Titanium.
Now that even though both the internal and external SD cards are more than 50% empty, I can't do anything like update apps or sync gmail because of insufficient storage. When I connect it to my PC, Windows Explorer recommends that I scan and fix the card. I suspect that whatever Windows is seeing caused my brick and the lack of space issues.
Is it okay to let Windows do the scan and fix?
Long story short? No...
Enable hidden files and folders in explorer and find the directory that is eating up the space.
Either that or USB connect it, copy everything over, disconnect and wipe from phone (settings > storage > erase) and then reconnect and copy everything back
i have heard many people complain to me that they just format their memory card accidentally on which a lot of important files have been saved. they are so upset because of the data loss that regret for a long time. i myself also have formatted the memory card by error and felt terrible when knowing all information have been lost. and it was more than one time, actually. i have tried to find out many ways to get those files back from the formatted memory card[/URL]. Finally, i got how to complete that task. i want to share it with you guys:
We can get back those lost files with data recovery tool from the accidental or intentional formatted memory card. Data recovery software could retrieve that data within a shore time. Here are its steps as follows to show you how to perform:
Step1. Download and mount the data recovery software on the computer.
Step2. Insert the formatted memory card to a card reader and then connect them to the computer on which the data recovery tool installed.
Step3. Double click the data retrieval program and choose the recovery model. Then select the object disk to scan.
Step4. You can preview the restorable contents in the list after the scan. Preview them and choose the wanted to recover.
Step5. Select one of the computer hard disks as the location to save the files to be restored.
there are precaution to avoid such data loss trouble, in fact. that is to back up those files regularly.
While it's nice that you decided to spend the time to write a guide, this thread will probably get buried extremely soon unless if it's stickied.
Hi, my phone decided to reset itself to factory settings (never had such issue in the past 6+ years!) and now everything is gone from the phone and from the SD card.
Giving the fact that the SD was not encrypted - is there a way to recover anything from it?
Or is the card overwritten with some 0s or 1s in the reset process?
(Any details about what is going on there greatly appreciated!)
Could anyone give some details if you were able to recover anything after reset?
Thanks!

I did a FDR on my S8+ and left the sdcard in as it's not normally wiped - but it was. There was a folder on internal storage labeled something like sdcard restore and everything was in that folder. Connect your S8+ to a PC and take a look or use a file explorer.

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately my phone is completely empty as well as the SD card - at least it appears like that when I connect it to the PC (well, both locations were quite full before the reset, so it would definitely not fit there).
I was hoping to at least retrieve anything from the SD card using some low level scanning, but I see only 0xFF there :/
Connect the micro sd using a usb adapter and try with recuva or "getdataback simple" using the 4 star scanning (take hours but should find something)

Restore Factory Settings:
Factory reset erases all the data and information stored on the device to restore the original or initial manufacturer settings of the device’s software. If none of the above-mentioned steps generates desired results, then resetting may seem to be a viable option; but, there is a risk involved in performing a factory reset as it may erase all your data, apps, photos, videos, music etc. from the device.
Follow below steps:
Go to your device’s Settings < Personal < Backup & reset
Enter the PIN, pattern or the password, whichever is required
Under Personal data, select Factory data reset < Reset phone
When the process is complete, restart your device and restore your backed-up data
Note: Back-up your data including contacts, SMS, and other useful information before resetting your device.
This steps might be helpful to some extent and if the issue is minor. Generally, SD card will report such error messages due to multiple reasons, which cannot be addressed through these mentioned steps; therefore, if your SD card shows “SD Card Was Unexpectedly Removed” error, then you need a professional and reliable approach to recover your Photos and Videos back from corrupt SD cards.
In addition, there are some limitations associated with the above-mentioned procedures; but, when it comes to Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery, there’s no such room for errors.

This post has nothing to do with my issue...
K.
Hi there, even if i have this issue on a specific phone (Redmi note 7 on PE), I think this issue can be encoutered in any phone, so I ask here.
(excuse my english, it's not my native langage).
Suddenly my phone freezes and turns off. I try to reboot but it stays stuck on the G logo. I've waited for an hour, it doesn't boot. I try to save as many data as I can, beggining with my sd card. But I have some data stored on my internal storage (pictures, recording and my podcast log) that is encrypted.
My plan was to back up all I could, reset the phone and restore what I've saved. but each time i try to back up (Orange recovery fox project), it crashes at the data back up. On the log it says that it is a file stored on data/misc that causes the issue. Thinking its a corrupt one, i delete and try again. But it crashes again, because of another file on the same data/misc file. I've tried two times to delete those files whitout any success.
I'm kind of desperate here, what can i do to save those precious files?
Any help appreciated, have a nice day
