[Audio issue] Moto G annoying hiss/static noise - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

been lurking for a while to find a solution for this problem but I haven't been able to find a solution so I thought I'd register
So i'm experiencing an annoying problem with my Moto G
there's this hiss coming out of the speaker when doing anything that has something to do with sound really (like opening apps)
the first thing you hear is the sound of the app opening but if I listen closely and keep the speaker close to my ear I can hear a kind of static noise coming through the speaker for about 3 seconds after the app sound before it abruptly stops
I can constantly hear it when playing a video or song with the volume muted. it's not really noticeable when you're not using earphones, but i listen to music quite often when at school and it's really noticeable with earphones in. the hiss becomes less noticeable as you turn up the volume but it's still noticeable and really annoying when listening to quite parts of songs. plus I don't feel like damaging my ears just so I don't have to hear the hiss. the hiss abruptly stops after about 3 seconds after pausing the video/song
From what I've read on the internet this problem seems very common with HTC phones and G2 users.
Any other G owners who are experiencing this problem?

[BUG] Crackling sound on calls and music, can anyone help?

Hello,
I am a proud owner of a couple Android Phones since the HTC G1, the HTC Magic and so goes on.
Now I was very excited to get the Nexus S, but on the first day of use, after making all the updates to 2.3.2 and installing all my usual apps, I noticed a crackling sound when hearing music from the speakers.
I can not find the reason of this but would like to know if someone had a problem similar to mine, and if yes, if it was possible to solve it.
There are some facts about this crackling noise that I point as follow:
- The crackling sound is not present all the times. The phone works well when playing shorts sounds like ringtones and notifications. I can hear everything crystal clear;
- When I start to hear a song (tried many different players, all the same problem), or when I am playing a game that uses constant music or sound effects, the crackling sound starts after some minutes of perfect sound (usually between 01:00 and 01:30 of good playing);
- It seems like a irregular white noise, like playing a corrupted MP3 file, that gets in the middle of the media;
- It beguns with a low volume compared to the media and gets louder as time passes, until it gets more frequent and as louder as the music playing;
- At first I thought of a broken speaker, and checked the headphones, but the crackling sound appears when listening music on both headphones and external speakers;
- Then I noticed the crackling sound appears on long voice calls too.
Well... I thought it could be something related to the software, so tried the OEM recovery process (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset), but it was not sucessfull.
[Q] Does anyone had a problem like mine?
[Q] Could someone point what could be the cause of it or a possible solutions?
Thanks in advance.
Jon
I noticed the same thing while listening to Pandora. Not sure what's going on. I'm on Modaco and don't know if its something in there or not.
I hear the noise after about 30 minutes of pandora.
I'm having the same issue running Modaco while listening to music via Spotify.
Just got back to the stock ROM, I'll see if it's any better and keep you guys posted.
I can now confirm that stock ROM is not affected by this issue.

Speaker noise at low volume

Hey everyone!
Today i've noticed that when I turn down the volume to the lowest level, the volume level before muting the phone so you can barely hear it, I can hear a static noise coming out of the speakers if I put it veeery close to my ear. This happens when playing games, listening to music or doing anything which has sound. If a turn up the volume i cant hear it anymore.
Is it happening to everyone? Is it normal?
Thanks in advance

I haven't tried it (my background is a bit noisy to test right now) but I think I've read that its a software issue and not hardware. I can believe that its software based also because you state that it only sounds that way at low volume.

[Audio Issue] Moto G HISSING STATIC constant with apps

Please help me. :crying:
Motorola Moto G 16GB, updated to 4.4.2.
HELP MY EARS!! Most notably when using earphones, I get horrible hissing, static hissing whenever I open an app that outputs sound. Even with something like Google Voice Search popping up and playing the dum-dum sound. This happens even when I turn the volume down to 0. I've gone into Sound settings, disabled Motorola's EQ, put all other volumes (notification etc) to 0 as well but nothing has helped. As soon as the app stops outputting volume after a second or so delay, the hissing goes away. For example when a YouTube video stops playing. It's driving me nuts. Google shows that it's a common issue after the 4.4.2 update or something.
I also use the app Fine Volume Control V2 across all Android devices I use since I find the minimum volume to be too loud, even with my TF300T. Thinking this was an issue I've uninstalled said app, rebooted but alas the static hissing remains.
Don't say you can't hear it, you need some half-decent headphones/earphones to pick it up, but oh dear god it's painful. Same symptoms described in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611599

Some Problems

Hi all;
Problems with my OPO:
- Sometimes the sound from the speaker is charged slowly so that the other end are barely heard. Other times, though the conversation begins with a clear sound in the headset and high fidelity shortly quality decreases sharply, so that the listener becomes even harder to understand in what he says; sound in speaker sounds like the other one ... as a boiler.
- Lately, increasingly more often, to initiate a sound applications (games, sound email or call sound) sound blocks, generating a disturbing sound, sharp or rattles like not disappear until I restart the device .
You know what solutions?
CyanogenMod version 11.0-XNPH44S
Not rooted-default ROM

Crackling sound from both speakers

i think it started recently
while i hear music especially when skip tracks (or sound stop&play) even in the menu of the phone is abit different in some apps
when i turn down the volume you hear it less "loud" (sound like blown speaker)
maybe software related? (i hope not hardware)
did it happen to anyone?
