[Q] Remove App icon without unistalling - General Topics

Hello,
anyone know how to remove an application icon in Android without having to uninstall it?

From where?
Home screen - just drag and drop it on the X
App Drawer - Depends on your launcher, stock launcher does not support hiding apps, custom ones generally do.
Don't need the app? Disable the app in app settings.
Make an icon invisible? That's potentially harder, launchers which let you choose custom icons for an app allows you to set an invisible icon (icon filled with hex code 00FFFF I think?)
Unicon lets you set icon themes system wide (so they even show up inside apps), but does not let you do it on an app-per-app basis as far as I know. Also requires root.

Change the bottom bar icons?

I was wondering if there was any way of altering what is shown along the bottom bar of my Epic 4G Android 2.2.1 phone. I have a new sms app that I use all the time rather than the stock app and i'd like to change the icon in the bottom row. Is it even possible without having to use a custom rom or rooting or anything?

The bottom bar is the dock from the launcher. I don't know which launcher you are using but on Launcher Pro if you long press on the icon you will be able to change it. I believe Zeam you have to add the icon to your home page then drag it to the dock. ADW is also something similar.
To clarify the above post, installing a new launcher does not require root. However if your carrier filters your market you may need to download the .apk file on a pc and install with a file manager from the sdcard. Remember to check "unknown sources" in the android menu prior to attempting the latter method.

Are there any apps that blocks other apps from adding bookmarks& home screen icons on

Are there any apps that blocks other apps from adding bookmarks& home screen icons on
I think I would like an app that can tell you which app added which bookmark or homescreen icon & let you know when an app is trying to add them to your phone & ask you if you want to block it.
I'm talking about those bookmarks and homescreen icons that are sometimes added to your phone when you install certain free apps. They're usually search engines and the developer can earn money whenever you use them.
I'm not sure if an app like this even exists but if there are any please let me know

[Q] Does anyone know how to hide app icons in the Drawer?

Hello fellow N5 users~! I am hoping that someone out there knows the solution to my frustration.
Coming from TouchWiz and 3rd party launchers such as Apex and Hololauncher, I'm very used to having the ability to hide app icons inside the app drawer. If I have the apps as shortcuts on my homescreens, dock, and folders, I like hiding the reduntant app icons inside the drawer so that when I do enter the drawer, I don't have to filter through the apps (I have 120 apps installed).
I found some apps that promise to hide apps inside the drawer but they seem to only work by disabling the apps, which leads to app icons in the homescreens, dock, and folders to disappear as well.
So is there a way to hide apps inside the app drawer like we can with Apex?

There is no way to do this with the stock launcher.

[Q] Google now launcher icon packs

Are there any?
I want to keep the launcher but change app icons. All icon packs I can find in the play store require the installation of a different launcher.
Icon Packs on the play store are installable. What you'd actually need to do is download actual images to use as icons (from NOT play store) and then use an app that creates shortcuts with custom images, then use THOSE shortcuts instead of the apps.
I used to do this using apps like "Desktop Visualizer". I'm not sure if this app still exists and if it does, whether it works on KK.
If you're using Xposed, you can try this out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-icon-themer-v1-5-winterboard-app-t2246783

I've been using this for a few years this to created custom icons...

Works fine with stock launcher, but one thing I've noticed on KK is that it seems that you need to make sure you don't already have the icon on one of your screens or it won't create the new one. So, say you're creating a new Chrome icon, remove the existing one first.
Thanks. Used the xposed method in the end. The icon themer is now called unicon.
However, I can't find a way of changing individual icons with this, I can only install icon packs.
If your ROM has the new CM theme manager it works EXACTLY like Unicon, but without the need for Xposed and you don't need to restart apps like it prompts you to in Unicon. Also themes system wide in the same way.

XGELS now allows you to use icon packs.

That's the only downside to Unicon. It's cool that it themes the icons system-wide, but you can't change individual icons if the icon pack doesn't have an icon for a certain app. It just applies random masking.

Yeah. I'm thinking I may finally switch to using XGELS for my icon theming (instead of Unicon) when the ability to change individual icons is added, which the dev is currently working on.

Questions about Moto App Launcher

Hey does anyone have a copy/modified copy of the Moto App Launcher to use icon packs? Although I like Lawnchair, I cannot use it on this new phone because I like having the app drawer on the recent apps screen. Thanks!
I too insist on having a home screen with the app drawer icon. I do not like the "My Home screen is my app drawer" aka (Easy Home) or the "swipe up for apps" method.
The first thing I did with my Moto g7 was search Google for; and then install the "Latest Nova Launcher Pro/Mod apk" which corrected that problem and allows for major customizations, ffor starters, the app drawer option, with scroll direction choices, basic launcher themes and icon packs, fonts and colors and size modifications, search bar options, folder creation with all features listed above just for the folders, app animations and transition's, etc etc etc. If you can think it or want something different then the standard issue there is more then likely a feature to modify it.
I have also had success with Apex Launcher. Just remember when looking to download ANY type of app at all, be sure to search GOOGLE for the "pro/paid/full/premium" and sometimes "mod" versions of the Apps .apk files, Not those ad infested and half the feature locked versions that come from the PlayStore.
