[Q] Google now launcher icon packs - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any?
I want to keep the launcher but change app icons. All icon packs I can find in the play store require the installation of a different launcher.

Icon Packs on the play store are installable. What you'd actually need to do is download actual images to use as icons (from NOT play store) and then use an app that creates shortcuts with custom images, then use THOSE shortcuts instead of the apps.
I used to do this using apps like "Desktop Visualizer". I'm not sure if this app still exists and if it does, whether it works on KK.

If you're using Xposed, you can try this out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-icon-themer-v1-5-winterboard-app-t2246783

I've been using this for a few years this to created custom icons...

Works fine with stock launcher, but one thing I've noticed on KK is that it seems that you need to make sure you don't already have the icon on one of your screens or it won't create the new one. So, say you're creating a new Chrome icon, remove the existing one first.

Thanks. Used the xposed method in the end. The icon themer is now called unicon.
However, I can't find a way of changing individual icons with this, I can only install icon packs.

If your ROM has the new CM theme manager it works EXACTLY like Unicon, but without the need for Xposed and you don't need to restart apps like it prompts you to in Unicon. Also themes system wide in the same way.

XGELS now allows you to use icon packs.

That's the only downside to Unicon. It's cool that it themes the icons system-wide, but you can't change individual icons if the icon pack doesn't have an icon for a certain app. It just applies random masking.

Yeah. I'm thinking I may finally switch to using XGELS for my icon theming (instead of Unicon) when the ability to change individual icons is added, which the dev is currently working on.

[Q] Show arrow data connection without root

Hello..
I need to help.
How to show arrow data connection, hiden separator and hiden google quick search widget in home screen without root?
Thanks.
To hide the Google search bar use another launcher like nova but for the mods of the status bar you need root and xposed at least if you don't want to flash another Rom. Good luck

I use Nova instead Google and I think is better, because you can use all Google has plus a lot of other things google doesnt. You should give a try to each one and judge by yourself. Nova is the most stock likely and supports icons and fonts, also there a lot of launchers with specific functions, like Themer, Go launcher, etc

There are no themes in nova launcher like themes for cm like you can change everything even the UI. you can install "themes" via pay store and will change icons and fonts but not UI. Give a try

Edit icon names Pixel 3 XL

Is there a simple way to edit home screen icon names on a Pixel 3 XL without installing Nova Launcher? My problem is I want to keep the default Pixel icons, but want to edit the icon names.

A simple way? Probably not.
You'll probably have to decompile the icon pack .apk using APKtool then edit what you want to change, then re-compile the icon pack .apk then install the modified icon pack.

Thanks, I had a feeling there wouldn't be an easy solution. I'll just use Nova Launcher and learn to live with non-original app icons...at least they're easily edited.
I blame app developers for needing to edit their app names to begin with. They often want to give apps a long and two or three word name when a shorter one would be better for the user.
The other simple solution that's available in most 3rd party launchers, they could include in Android. Allow separate font sizing for app icon labels so we could decrease the label size without making everything else on the phone unreadable.
Oh, well... neither solution will occur in my lifetime ?

OneUI mod

Hi all,
I finally managed to make some mods for OneUI launcher.
1) changed the app drawer to 6x8 or 6x9...but this is not available as a option to switch, it is hard coded, either use 6x8 or 6x9
2) disabled the adaptive icon (white icon around some app icons).
Since each device has a different version of the OneUI launcher, it may be better for me to share a guide with those interested....
I will try to post a guide shortly here in this thread....
Posting few screenshots...
I have removed the options of changing the grid options from the launcher.
Notice the app drawer having 6x9
Noticed that it seems to break few stock icons when using themes but this is happening because of cloning of app using appcloner. This is applicable only for those on non-rooted phone wherein you need to use appcloner to install a 2nd instance of the OneUi launcher
Update 1: I was able to customize it to 2 grids 6x8 and 6x9 and it is available as option in home and grid settings and works just fine

I can try for sure...but it may not be easy without device since every mod requires testing...

Question How to remove google search bar from home screen + add % in QS?

Do you guys manage somehow to remove search bar from the home screen with Pixel launcher and add % display in QS? I checked the mods in pixel 6 pro thread, but don't know if they will work on A13/7 pro.

Hello. I got the phone today. And that's the first thing that bothered me. But as far as I could find the information, it is not possible to remove it.

Not possibe on stock launcher
Maybe with aosp mods ( you will need lsposed)
I just use Nova launcher 8.0.3 beta with Nova Google companion. It's a heck of a lot easier and it lets you hide the notification bar as well.
I use LawnChair as Launcher. It is imho nicer then the stock one and has more features and you can remove the search bar from home screen
I wish they would allow you to do this instead of a third party launcher - the animations in third party launchers are not great compared to stock.

Not sure what you mean by the "animations" but I use Nova Prime and 3 button navigation, and everything works great. I used gesture navigation for awhile but got tired of it a couple of years ago and went back to button navigation and never looked back.

When you swipe away an app it animates the app going back into the icon in a fluid way. Third party launchers can't do this.
Use Pixel Launcher Mods to hide apps, enable icon packs, and change out the at a glance or searchbar widget. It requires Magisk.
In order to blank either of the widgets you need an empty widget, I prefer The Empty Widget on the Play Store since it has zero permissions and nothing superfluous. You can then use the hide apps function to hide the icon.
In order to modify the QS you will need AOSP Mods which requires Magisk and LSPosed. The Xposed version is the minimum, but if you download the Full version it will come with overlay themes to allow you to remove the navbar, change fonts, theme the QS, and change the system icons style.

Does this method to hide the searchbar widget move the icon drawer down to fill the gap?
Not seen anything on the stock launcher that makes it worth putting up with the limitations. Even when mods are used, it's still clunky and limited (for example, you can't change icons for individual apps).
Nova for me, far better and it does everything the stock launcher does and more. I've always found some people being desperate to stick with stock a bit strange.

With the Pixel Launcher mod you can change icons for individual apps while using the stock Pixel Launcher.
I've used Nova, Lawnchair and Hyperion for years and years but am currently using the stock Pixel Launcher with the Pixel Launcher mod to change icons and a Substratum theme to get rid of the gesture pill. Not desperate, just a personal preference. I guess I would fall into the strange category
Wich substratum theme are you using?
Can you had some screenshots?
Thx

No, you are not removing it but rather replacing it with another widget which is just going to be a blank one.

It is a Substratum theme (FSIM-Version1.apk) for this Magisk mod. You can find it via the Telegram link in that Github repo.
Ahh ok...but needs root
A happy Nova user here, what you want is what you get

I took prefer to do this. Pixel Launcher Mod has something that Lawnchair used to have but no longer does if I'm not mistaken, but the ability to apply multiple icon packs at once pretty much keeps all your icons themed at(I normally have 3-4 applied) all times.
Ok, I checked out the pixel mod again. It offers a lot but still falls well short of making the Pixel launcher an everyday use for me.
For example, you can't get rid of both the top and bottom bars at the same time (not the mods fault, I know). And my main issue with it is that you can't change the grid size so you're stuck with 4 columns and 5 rows which simply isn't enough for me.
So whilst the animations and smoothness are nice, they're not nice enough for me to put up with the stupid limitations Google have put in place.

For what it's worth, the stock Pixel Launcher goes up to 5 x 5.

Question Change MIUI icon pack?

I was wondering if there's a way to change the icons of MIUI launcher. There are plenty of themes but I want to customize the icons on my own as I usually do with all my devices.
I usually just install Nova launcher and do everything, but since stupid MIUI breaks gesture navigation upon changing the home app I am searching for a way to change the icons of certain apps with my own Wich till now I do by making a custom apk and installing it.
Unfortunately MIui launcher does not seem to allow doing it that way.
I've tried with MIUI Theme manager apk from app store, but when I open it it's saying that I don't have any themes and I should check them in theme manager Wich is not true( I've downloaded some from themes app already)
Would appreciate any help if you guys know how I can do this.
