Hi Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I'm new here.
Okay now that is out of the way, I have installed Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and so far I'm loving almost everything but the one thing that is driving me nuts is that there is no way to close out all recent apps from the recent apps menu. Normally I would have had this feature in a custom rom that I was running or would have used xPosed Framework to achieve thus, however as we all know this isn't compatible with Lollipop at the moment.
Is there any way of achieving this? Has anyone managed to do it or know how I could do it? I understand that it's not necessary on a performance level it's more of an OCD thing for me to close out all the recent apps frequently.

Not possible right now. Just wait for custom ROMs. I'm sure it will come

you're actually wasting battery by clearing all recents. Sure, Clear the one or two apps that are there that you "never" use.
Just know that recents are cached. It uses far fewer CPU cycles (and by extension, battery) to recall an app from cache than starting from scratch. People who regularly clear all recents, ergo start all their regularly used apps from scratch, will enjoy much higher battery drain, so everyone should stop this nonsense. Android knows what it is doing.

What's funny is that I have the opposite obsession.. for some reason I obsessively open up apps so they show up in recents, lol
I guess Lollipop will ease it since it keeps them through reboots if I remember correctly, and on some days I reboot quite a lot.

On KK, I can only have 16 items in recents, if I open another app it removes the earliest one. Haven't looked, not sure if this is a defined limit or if its to do with the usage of the apps themselves.
I guess thats why they also changed the term "recents" to "overview" in Lollipop, since keeping every single app wouldn't be limiting just to the recent apps? lol

Maybe we'll see "pin app in recents" as a custom ROM feature to go with "clear all recents", so you can get rid of the less-used apps but not the frequently used ones.

I would like to suggest an app that can perform the action of clearing the notification with a single tap on it (much like how tapping on "Screen off and lock" app will do to off and lock the screen).
I often find it annoying to have some extra notification that I need to drag down the notification, only to clear it afterwards - where I may not want to click into it. For instance, I use a profile changing app (Llama) and it will notify me for any changes in profiles, but it won't go away until I clear it off. I am sure sometimes showing a notification icon is very sufficient already to notify us about something. No need to drag down notification bar to read the content and clear it later.
I know I am lazy to drag down and clear, but a single tap on homescreen to do the job is certainly much better!
Please let me know if there is existing app already.
i don't think there is much demand for such an app, since you already can slide down and press clear
but that is just what i think of it
well i would love such an app. i've also been looking for such an app for a long time but none exists. this is good for notifications that u already know about and don't need to see them so you just clear them away with a click without needing to swipe down and then press Clear.
Would it be s widget/ shortcut?

but if you have root...
I think it's how we can duplicate or mirror the Clear button somewhere else.. either via shortcut or app or widget.. and we probably need root for that..
I dont mind using the "clear" button on my Galxy W , just so long as they STAYED clear. Whenever another notification fires, I get past notification for nearly a month previous come up! - Its bloody annoying and Ithought it was a consequence of rooting, but a friend, with the same unrooted phone has exactly the same problem, so I think this may be a bug with this relatively new model - thought OTA, 2.3.6. update might have solved it but no, - still happens - anyone else have this problem ? (p.s. - have 46 notifications re-appearing at the moment!)
Has anybody found a way to do this? I too would like this functionality. I have tasker installed and thought maybe such a task could be created but I can't figure out how.

Yeah, the built in android notification clear button. Ob the status bar
Sent from my LT26i with Tapatalk 2
With that method you still have to open the notification bar before you can clear them.....2 steps.
The desired function is a one click solution. Like a widget you can place on your main screen you can just click to clear.
Why would this be desirable? Some of us get a lot of notifications and have very large phones. It becomes tedious to use one handed, i.e. to stretch your thumb to the top of the screen, drag the notification bar open, and click the upper corner clear button........especially when its a notification who's content we already know.
Is it a big deal? No, but there is many widgets out there that provide practically zero functionality while this one would actually do something many people could use.

+1 on this
on large screened phones like the Note, it's a major pain in the ass to reach all the way up to pull down the notification bar with 1 hand. There are workarounds such as installing Go Launcher and using the built in gestures to help pull the notification down but it's still a 2 step process to swipe down and click "Clear".
neeeedd
rly need this app....becouse i can clean all my notification whit a simple gesture in my lockscreen, no need to unloock....i cant beleave noone created this app....in google play there is so much **** and nobody creates an application so useful ... absurd ..
Resurrecting an old thread because it looks like the new "halo" feature being developed by the Paranoid Android team will have the added benefit of clearing notifications without having to stretch our fingers to the top of the screen when using the phone one-handed.

Probably a tweak or app for something like that. I know nothing about android yet, but hoping for this as well. Had a jailbreak tweak for this on iPhone. Kinda odd that devices don't have this feature built in

There is a great option for that in the xposed module but unfortunaly it is not yet updated for 4.4 but when it is try Gravitybox for Xposed.
I noticed when playing my music w/ Viper FX that the sound quality goes from using the drivers of the app to stock flat (audio quality depreciates) since the app was killed while performing another task (such as opening hangouts or other apps while using phone). I noticed that Android doesn't release the RAM from another app that was being used (ex. ESPN, hangouts, etc) since those apps were more recent while Viper was opened and left. I was wondering if there existed anything to set a higher priority of the Viper FX (or other apps) over some so they won't be killed even if newer used? Thanks for any information.
Think this would probably be the easiest way: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.MemoryLocker - the developer is very well known for these kinds of mods and RAM management. Adjusting the oom ratio will give the app higher priorities so make it less likely to be killed. I'm sure there are ways to manual doing it via adding a script or something, but time and effort for all that, I dunno if it's worth it unless you really like to tinker and do stuff manually.
Thank you, that will probably be easier way with root. Was checking to see if any way to do manually since don't need just for Viper but may have to do it.
Ah, sorry. I was thinking that you had to have root for Viper, so that you were already rooted. Pretty sure there isn't a way to make these kinds of tweaks without root either manually or via an app like Memory Locker. There really isn't a compelling reason NOT to root, in my opinion. It's not complicated (compared to most other phones) and is fairly easy to reverse. If you'd like some help with it, lemme know.
I am rooted, sorry. Would it be possible to push the app from user app status to system app (via file explorer/permissions) (such as MusicFX)? Installed normally and it works great but maybe, if by making a system app, it'd be less likely to be killed versus user?
Don't want to use titanium backup push to system, had bad experiences and will not use the app again for some time.
Theres discussion about putting viper in /system/priv-app in one of the two viper thread's in themes and apps (n5).
I still have mine in /data/data.

Hi,
I have not tested and I don't know if it will be useful but there is an Xposed module to keep apps in memory, maybe you can try... This module is not only for this, there is other features.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437377.
- Resident in memory: If set, the system will try much harder to keep the app in memory even when you leave it. It might make the app more responsive when reopening but will also consume more RAM, possibly slowing down the overall system.

Well I don't know if this is something that we can do or something the people who made the Viper audio mod need to do. Wouldn't a good way to keep it in memory be to keep a persistent notification? It really bumps up an app's priority in Android when it has an on-going notification up on the notification bar.

Yeah, exactly that. I just installed it again after a clean wipe of my phone a few days ago and have begun tinkering with it and JUST found that setting. To OP: enable the persistent notification. That'll make sure Viper4Android a high priority app when it sweeps through its open apps looking for one to close.

I am not sure on this one. The first thing that comes to mind is long-pressing the notification, going to App info, then unchecking the box that says "Show notifications". However, I think if you do that, it lowers its importance, circumventing the advantage of showing the notification in the first place, and you're back to square one. So I guess I don't know how to help you with this part.
Yeah, I suppose we should probably move to the thread listed above, too.
I figured the knowledgeable people here could point me to apps (that require root or not) that do things that xposed used to do but now can't:
•Slide on notification bar for brightness (not an actual slider just able to slide)
•lockscreen app targets
•edit quick toggles in any way shape or form
•edit nav bar height
•change recents button into a menu button and remove three dot menus
•advanced power menu options
any info is appreciated!

Users need to stop with the [Request] threads. You want something bad enough, learn to dev and make it happen. MOD EDITED - BE RESPECTFUL!!!
Most of the things you mentioned have to be a system modification not an app. Check out the lollipop custom ROMs, some of them have a few of the features you desire. It might be a few months to get Xposed working if possible even. You could always revert to 4.4.4 too.

Perhaps you can share the apps you found so far? Im following your thread bro.
Xposed is just so good, it became a must in my phone. I want so many features from it and its modules too
I search for xposed at least 3 times per day and i didnt find any useful information but a reply of rov89 a month ago saying it was going to be hard to merge xposed to lollipop because of new ART runtime. So i find this post very useful as we can share temporary patches until xposed is released for lollipop.
* Intelli3G: Your internet is set to EDGE while phone is locked, but when you unlock it you get 3G/4G (until you lock)
* Lots of gravitybox features:
-change battery icon and clock position in the info bar ( percentage + circle battery!)
-flash activated when you pulse the lockscreen for 3secs (stupid ye but very useful for me)
* Burnt toast: that was so cool (show app icon in toast--> superSU permissions)
*App settings: so i can put safari in immersive mode
Cant remember more at the moment but if you know any app with similar features post them here please
For battery percent:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent
On Lollipop the percentage is visible even with full battery.
You know if Xposed doesn't come back I am kinda okay with it. Towards the end of Kitkat it seemed like any really useful app that came out needed Xposed to run. It was like as if app creators ran straight towards Xposed instead of using different methods. I know for some things you needed to be able to hack further than root allows but I would guess that a few Xposed modules could have achieved the same result through different means. I'm probably wrong though.
As well intentioned as this thread was, it still got almost completely derailed... Shame.

Hi guys here you have a proper review of the Nougat firmware for the S7 edge based on my personal experiences.
So I installed it yesterday night via odin thx to @laimonas777.
With my own experiences I can say it is not as nice as I had thought.. It's hard to use, it's full with small bugs and delays and sometimes it can even freeze up to 30 seconds (My experiences).
Every app has got the new GraceUI of the Galaxy Note 7 including the settings app.
One of the best Nougat features, the display scaling option has got "only" 2 different options which do not differ that much from the standard option.
Let's talk about the Notification panel. You now have 6 toggles visible at the top but you cant swipe anymore. When you pull the statusbar twice you will see 9 toggles per page. Its much harder to find one toggle you are searching for because of the 3 toggle pages. On Marshmallow all toggles were visible in one "page".
Also the colors could have been better but I think everyone has its own opinion there.
Something which is also weird is that you have a search bar on the notification panel but actually you cant type anything in there. Instead, this textfield will just open the finder app.
The camera has got newer options and a totally different but perfect UI which I really like. But the new color modes are actually not that important features and were also aviable partially in 6.0.
Lets move on to the recent apps panel, which is a big pain.. The recent items got taller just like in stock nougat but the scrolling is a very big pain. Its just as the android nougat developer preview 1 for nexus devices also there are some minor graphical glitches which I have shown in the video.
Another thing I want to mention are the notifications. And yes, they are ugly but i am sure samsung will fix that. On every notification where you can tap for an action (example whatsapp, to reply) is a grey bar, which looks horrible. You can see it in the attached ss
Performancewise it hasnt got big changes but dont forget the delays when opening some specific apps etc. The battery consumption is also a bit higher but all these will get fixed with the final build (hopefully).
But now lets talk about the positive things :silly:. The Multiwindow option has got much better than it was on all other touchwiz versions, in short, its almost the same as in stock android nougat. Another thing which is perfect is the Window apps mode where you can open apps in window mode. We all know how bad this option was in Touchwiz, maybe no one of you ever have used it but now the window mode is very good and snappy. The negative thing there is that you cant deactivate these both modes anymore. So always when you try to pull down the notification panel from the right or left top corner, it will just open the current app always in window mode which is quite annoying.
And something which is annoying like hell is that if you play a game like doodle jump where you dont need to touch the screen the screen always turns off after a while. So the auto screenoff option doesnt get disabled while playing games or (maybe) even while watching a movie.
Galaxy Labs is now removed, so now you cant get all apps on your homescreen and you cant hide the appdrawer.
Remember that this is a very early beta build, and all of these bugs are normal and wont be there in the finale build.
Here is a quick video about the update to see how it looks
What about a dark theme...it was rumoured that Android N will have a dark theme not only that light one. Also the existing themes in store (for Samsung) work properly on N or not?

Keep in mind this is the frist beta released from samsung, so some things might hopefully change by the release of the final firmware. Also, you do have scaling other than going through the developer options. Go to Display -> Font and you will get to cgoose both the Screen zoom (which is set to almost huge idk why) and of course the font size. This comes to be as tha Normal and Condensed options back from marshmallow.

Also, you do have scaling other than going through the developer options. Go to Display -> Font and you will get to cgoose both the Screen zoom (which is set to almost huge idk why) and of course the font size. This comes to be as tha Normal and Condensed options back from marshmallow.

i know that is a very early beta build. i just wanted to show all annoying things in it :silly:
thanks for the corrections, in stock nougat there is an extra option for the display scaling. I didnt look in the font scale thought its just the normal font scaling
Hello, thank you for great review. Could you confirm one exciting feature of android 7 (atleast for me) that it works on this phone beta software.
As of Android 7.0 phone can read 2G/3G/LTE frequency without ROOT. Easiest way is to install app Cellmapper(mapping cell towers to map) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper&hl=en
Could you run this app and post screenshot while connected to LTE only(no wifi)? Also, maybe send debug report from settings menu to developer with screenshot.
Thank you

Strange review .... I have been using it also since yesterday, and it is faster and smoother then my MM stock ...
Agreed there is some laggs when double tapping the multi tasking bouton, but overall its snapier and more responsive.
Also I have not noticed any freeze. I find this beta very polished to be honest.
Have you done a full wipe before installing ? or OTA ?

sometimes it can even freeze for about 30 seconds.

Thank you. Does not seem to report more info than in android 6.0.1. If you see LTE band reported on Cellmapper screen you can make another screenshot, but it seems that this functionality might not be there.
It's not a review, it's a rant. I literally have no issues with it, no freezes what so ever, it's actually snappier than MM.
I think the 'review' tag should be removed from this thread or it should be locked, as it is full of false information and the corrections to that false information have been given, but the 'review' hasn't been updated. If people read this thread thinking it is accurate, they will get false information.
The comment about display options, for instance, is just the OP not knowing what to do. It's not something wrong or an option that has been removed, it's just a lack of knowledge.

Yeah, I don't get that with any app. The only thing a bit laggy is the "new window" tab animation in the browser and the notification bar. Apart from those two things, it is fine.
