Rooting 4.4.4...... - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I used sunshine to s-off and now I need root and su. Twrp says I don't have root so it can't be used, supersu says I don't have binaries installed so it can't be used. I'm confused how I'm supposed to root when any program I use says I can't use it because I need the other one installed first..... They all point to each other and I can't use any. Help please!

flash twrp FROM FASTBOOT. flash root from twrp.

To clarify, flash the SuperSU.zip in TWRP, after you flash TWRP from fastboot.

[Q] How to root after S-Off?

Hello? I just got s-off by sunshine. The updated sunshine does not need root because
the app gets temp-root itself to get s-off.
So my question is how do I get rooted?
Can I install custom recovery first then use supersu.zip
or is there another way to root without recovery?
Nvm. TWRP recovery first then supersu

[Q] Why does Super su says "No binaries installed"

Just flashed the factory Rom and got everything set up. I flashed TWRP then tried to flash the latest SuperSu to get root and it installed it but when I went to open it it would say that I don't have any binaries installed and I can't uninstall SuperSU either. I tried to install CWM Recovery and refresh it through there but I still have the same issues... :/ What am I doing wrong or how can I get my phone rooted properly? Thanks for any help!

You need to flash a kernel that is permissive and then flash SuperSU there are a few in the forums if you search you shall find them
Instead of a permissive kernel, simply use Chainfire's AutoRoot, which will flash a more secure kernel and SuperSU automatically. You don't even need TWRP for this. http://download.chainfire.eu/363/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hammerhead-hammerhead-nexus5.zip
Go to http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ to get AutoRoot for other devices.

So I flash this in ADB? Is the secure kernel the same as stock? and if I were to flash a customer kernel like FK would I lose root? Sorry for all the questions just trying to clarify some stuff so I'm not completely ignorant to what I'm doing lol
There's a batch file that does it. You run it in the bootloader, not ADB.
FK has a Lollipop compatible kernel, but try and root stock first. Then flash FK's Lollipop version (it's different) and run CF AutoRoot again. Just to be sure things are working. Personally, I'm going to use stock for a while, understand the performance and then try FK or EX or whatever, so I'll be able to tell the difference.

Post-OTA woes

Hi,
I recently updated to 4.4.4 and I want to get TWRP and the Xposed Framework back. I'm not rooted and my bootloader is locked, but I do have s-off. When I try to flash TWRP, I get an error message (attachment below). Also, since the Xposed Framework requires root access, I can't use it since I can't use WeakSauce anymore and I'm not ready to dive into Sunshine. I was thinking about flashing the 4.4.4 rooted ROM that's available. Would this at least get me root access?
Thanks,
PC49

Not sure why you relocked, but since you have s off you can flash twrp recovery via a fastboot zip file. There are a few threads on XDA, but basically you need to put twrp in a zip alongside an android-info.txt file.

Were you running Windows as admin when you tried this?

You need to flash recovery in ruu mode as a zip just like beaups stated. But you can unlock your boot loader via HTCdev if your s-off. Just supercid your phone an then htcdev will unlock your boot loader. But you don't need a unlocked bootloader tho just exposing your choices...I know this works cause my last 2 phones I used java card for s-off an unlocked via htcdev myself.

Help with rooting my phone, thanks

Hi, I have an HTC One M8 on 5.0.1 and I have little knowledge with rooting. I want to root my phone because there are some apps I want to use that are only capable of being used if my phone is rooted. I've tried Kingo root and it doesn't work on my phone so I was wondering if someone can give me instructions and download links so I can root my phone. If you can it would be much appreciated, thanks.

You have 2 options at the moment.
1) Ship device to one of the many great people with a Java Card/XTC2 Clip - Look at the OP of this thread to see where the people are located.
2) With some time and luck - King Root, which has been proven to work for a number of M8 users.

I was able to get S-Off using the KingRoot and Sunshine method. Now what? Although I did get root long enough to get S-off, I lose it after each time I get temp root with the KingRoot app again. KingRoot will say that I have root, but I can't get SuperSU to install.
I am doing a factory reset now and will try to use KingRoot to get temp root, then install SuperSU. Will I then be able to install TWRP after SuperSU is installed correctly?

If you are S-OFF, then I would flash a custom recovery and then a custom ROM (if you want)
or flash superSU in the custom recovery if you just want root.
Once S-OFF you are in full control of your device, so do some reading about it as you can end up with an expensive paperweight easily if you don't know what you're doing.
Or try vroot, i rooted my phone in just 1 tap
dexter0218, I think it would be BIG BIG news here if there were a one-click root solution for the newest M8. 5.01 phones aren't rootable easily.
boltz111, no need to fiddle with SuperSU. Now that you are S-Off, make sure you have ADB and get the latest TWRP for the M8. Drop to your ADP shell and do:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp.zip
(sub in the name of your zip)
That's it. Then:
- Power down
- Power up in bootloader (hold down vol)
- Go to recovery
You have to go to recovery before booting or else the rom will overwrite the recovery.
Once you're in TWRP, you can load up SuperSU from a .zip and it will do its thing.
Or flash a rooted ruu from fastboot, loads you back to stock but with perm root, never had an issue

5.0.2-010 05 update downloaded should I use

Just got this phone new from cricket. I'm having issues making calls. I downloaded the update. But am wondering should I use it. I'm wanting to do custom roms exc. I have not unlocked boot loader or anything yet. If I do the update will I still be able to unlock the boot loader and root custom roms exc? 6045o is the type
First of all I suggest unlocking the bootloader, because if you update to MM you will lose fastboot commands (you can have them back but it's tedious). Then maybe install the latest TWRP, update to MM and then systemless root or custom ROM If you want to update to latest official firmware but don't want to lose TWRP/root just download the update without installing it and then flash it with chainfire's FlashFire.
thanks

First of all make sure you never mount /system as rw when using TWRP.
Then just do a systemless root (download SuperSU from chainfire website on your phone, launch TWRP's terminal and type "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu", then flash SuperSU as usual), systemless root won't be detected by apps/os. Will probably be detected by SafetyNet but i'm not sure PoGo uses it. In case you have problems with root detection you can try suhide by Chainfire.
Also note that systemless Xposed (rootcloak, etc) and V4A are possible via Magisk (just search it on XDA).
