I am looking to buy an M8 soon (had one when they first came out and got rid of it like an idiot) and I had mine unlocked and rooted but I'm curious if I buy one on Swappa, are all current versions of software for this phone able to be unlocked? So I don't get stuck with an unmodifiable phone. Thanks! [emoji12]

If you get one with 4.4.2 firmware as it came from htc then firewater in theory is supposed to work, if you get one with 4.4.3 firmwater then you have to use the sunshine app and it costs you $25 if you have an m8 on 4.4.4 firmware then I think sunshine does not work on it yet I could be wrong on that one not 100% sure but last I saw it was not cracked yet.

Couldn't seem to find my exact answer. I am getting ready to sell my AT&T One X as I just picked up the S4. I currently have the bootloader unlocked and rooted. I was wondering what is the best way to go back to stock for selling purposes.

This should've been posted in Q&A but I'll help you out anyways since I'm in a good mood . First you need to s-off. Then, run an RUU (whichever one you want). After that, reboot into bootloader. Connect it to your PC and "fastboot oem lock". From there you should be good. If you want to make it appear as if you have s-on you can locate that thread, you can, but s-off shouldn't void any warranties, and since you're selling it anyways, there shouldn't be a problem.
Hi, sorry if I'm not posting in the correct forum, but I have a question. I have an unlocked HTC One X+ phone. So, if it's unlocked, does it make it international? I want to root it and everything, but I don't know how to go on. It's unlocked so I'm afraid to lock it by using the wrong programs. (I unlocked the bootloader and already installed international version TWRP (though I don't know if I should have)). I came now to unlocking the phone and don't know if I have to use international version or not (probably the international since I already got TWRP international) but I'm afraid of bricking the phone, breaking it in some way or locking it to AT&T (I do travel overseas and need to be able to use it there).
Thanks!
[EDIT] I bought the phone on eBay!
Rooted
Well, I went into recovery mode (just for fun) and when I went to reboot it asked me if I wanted to root the phone (since I wasn't rooted yet) and I went ahead and gave it the go ahead... so... now my phone is rooted... hopefully it didn't lock it to AT&T and I'll still be able to use it overseas, but it's rooted and works. Now I have the fun choice of flashing a ROM on it
As the title states. My work just put in an insurance claim on my rooted and unlocked g3. And instead of the g3 they sent a brand new g4. I tried all the root methods. None work on my software version it seems. Which is h81010o. I always get the security error and phone won't boot and in have to tot back. Is this version not able to achieve root. Also. I can't believe there is no unlock for this phone. But I would love to at least have root. Any help would be appreciated. Gonna sell this and buy a one plus 2 if I can't get root. But if rather keep this one

Yes it is rootable even tho the files aren't as easy to find as all the other versions for the patients but when I get home I'll see if I can find the link to the rooted version of it that I used
I am new on this phone and I have a doubt, my phone is in marshmallow and the company verizon, as I can do root and unlock the bootloader ? I have understood that I need to pay 25 dollars to make the s -off but I just want to do root and unlock the bootloader. Thank you.
Sorry for my English
The only way to do it with Verizon branded m8 is to use sunshine. And that will get you an unlocked bootloader and s-off. After that you can flash twrp recovery through adb (get yourself familiar with and, it'll help you greatly. You can search around here and find some good reads on it.) After you get tarp flashed then you can flash supersu in twrp, then you'll be rooted.

This comment pretty much guided me through how to root for my m8. Thanks for taking the time to post this, even if it was a few months back. I was about to give up until I saw it, so thanks again!
Dismayed/Encouraged
I'm surprised that there are not any viable options for the Verizon HTC One(M8). I figured since my warranty was up I would try and root to get more freedom from the consuming Verizon bloatware and needless/redundant processes.
I know I did the same thing with my Samsung Galaxy S years ago and it became a very speedy and efficient phone. I really haven't been in the Android scene since so everything I did learn along with the methods and processes have all faded from memory.
Now I'm just reading up on a ton of stuff to get reacquainted. I was wanting to flash TWRP, SuperSU, and the ViperOneM8 6.1.0 rom. My wife and I both have a Verizon HTC One(M8) (running Marshmallow) which are out of warranty and wanted to give them a face-lift and boost in performance.
It is looking like the only feasible option is with Sunshine. . . . . . I hope. (?)
A $50 investment would be cheaper than buying 2 newer phones.
Any ideas, input, or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Hello guys.
I'm going to buy used and bootloader unlocked Verizon Pixel tomorrow and I'm interested in couple of things:
1. Can I flash all the ROMs that are available for Pixel on Verizon version too?
2. Can I properly install TWRP, root using Magisk, etc?
3. Can I properly flash (and downgrade if needed) official system images (and are they ever available for Verizon models?)
4. Can I take part in Android Beta program?
5. Is there anything I should be afraid of?
Thanks in advance.
Make sure it is bootloader unlocked, and not just SIM unlocked. There are not many VZ ones around that are bootloader unlocked. You need that to do the items on you list.

As I already stated, bootloader is already unlocked.
No one has an answer?
If it's bootloader u locked then yeah u can do all those things. Just do not ever for any reason ever relock the bootloader. Also I believe there have been a few cases where ppl have had semibricks or other issues which required locked stock to fix or somehow resulted in locked stock
I got a replacement about a month ago on my small Pixel and that one was unlocked. However, the one I got from Verizon in store did not have an unlocked bootloader. I'm not sure what the deal is, but maybe getting a replacement from an "accidental" break might do the trick. just to clarify, my first Pixels' usb port got completely fried and started to smell bad whenever it charged, and the phone would get really hot. I am now on 8.1 with an unlocked bootloader but have yet to actually root the phone
