Any good third party keyboard alternatives - Nexus 9 Accessories

Honestly, I need to have a keyboard for this thing, but between the delays because of "quality issues" and the price, I'm not sold on getting the official folio.
Thing is, I love how sleek the folio looks, and nearly every third party keyboard I find is so much bulkier and just makes the product look uglier.
So for those of you who are going to be rocking 3rd party keyboards, what would you recommend?

I'm really wishing someone made a keyboard that had a build in battery that can charge the tablet as well (like the Asus transformer Prime keyboard dock, it used to add about 8 hours of battery).

Until official ones come out, I am just rocking a universal case with a stand + a logitech tablet keyboard.

[Q] Will we ever see a proper keyboard dock?

i love my xoom, but i feel like if it had a keyboard dock like the transformer and new galaxy tab, i would love it even more.
am i alone in my desire (excuse the pun, check sig ) for a kb dock? preferably one with a touch pad

Personally I think a keyboard dock is a bit silly. I love my tablet for being totally mobile. If I want a machine with a keyboard (even temporarily), I take one of my netbooks.
If you really need a physical a keyboard, get the Xoom dock and a bluetooth keyboard...mischief managed.
As for Moto or a third party releasing a keyboard dock....highly unlikely. I think the odds of Moto making one, as they are already focusing on recouping some of their losses from the Xoom with new tablets, are nil. A third party might if there was enough of a market for it...but there isn't, so I doubt anyone would.

i hear you, but wouldn't it be great to have the choice of, err, transforming your tablet into a netbook, instead of having to go out and buy one? i already have a big laptop so i really don't want to go out and buy a netbook. a keyboard dock would have done so nicely.
to be honest, the main reason why i want a dock is for those times when i rdp into my work computer while i'm in bed. i don't think the normal dock and bluetooth kb would work so well when i'm in bed...
you're probably right though, we'll probably never see a kb dock. but i'm seriously hoping that we're both wrong.
Yea, i agree on hoping to get a keyboard dock. It would be nice and easy rather than me having to carry the keyboard and the standard dock around if i go anywhere =P
(btw i like your name imajin )

Now we seen the TF2, is there a new dock too?

Now we seen the TF2, is there a new keyboard dock too? I'm thinking about getting a dock but if there is a new thinner one, ill wait. Wonder if it will fit a TF1.
I simply don't see how they could have a thinner tablet but still fit the first dock. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
That's a good question too. So if there is a thinner dock and thinner TF2, will the old thicker TF1 fit the thinner dock? If there is a new dock?

:/ new dock
ASUS always said it'd be compatible. It'll just look ugly when connected I guess. But the new Prime is super slick and thin. Best to just sell and rebuy.
That silver metal finished tablet, with the brownish dock will look like , well.... ummm... better buy the new one
The new transformer looks great... Better color than the original.

Well, I don't agree. I still think the bronze color of the TF1 looks great because it makes the TF look nothing like other tablets. I just hope they don't make the TF2 look like other tablets.
it... its so THIN! you better have a case already purchased before you receive this thing. I can see all of the RMA threads now....lol

That thin = easy to break would be my guess. Although it hasnt materialized with the ipad or the Samsung. Its not like most people are snapping them in half, its broken glass, which will happen on a thin or a thick tablet.
I've gotta say, if the TF Prime works with the current dock, I'll be buying one the first day. I couldn't care less if it doesn't match--I'm not terribly worried about being arrested by the fashion police.
Really, what makes me hesitate in buying the Prime is the though of needing not only the tablet but also another $150 on a dock. Take that away, and suddenly I can justify things a little better.
That said, I don't actually think the dock will be supported--I remember Asus saying awhile back that they received a number of complaints about the docking mechanism (which I've never understood) and so were going to redesign it. I don't know how they could change the mechanism and still support the original dock, but we'll see...

Yeah, it's unlikely I'll be upgrading if the existing dock isn't supported, either. I could care less about thinner, so the TF2's advantages (faster, and *maybe* a better camera since they bothered to add an LED flash) would be outweighed by its disadvantages (new docks means added expense, and now it's not only a reflective fingerprint magnet on the front, but on the back as well.)
I wonder if the new dock includes a built in battery?
They read it reportedly has a 14.5 hour battery life, but it didn't mention it that was docked or undocked. If that batter life is docked then a guess it a small trade off for thinness. If it's undocked I could see the dock not needing to have a battery (of course a dock that add an additional 10 hours would be really nice too).

Yeah, the base becomes slippery when you raise the screen. Maybe if they would have used rubber on the feat instead of hard plastic it would have been better.
Pure math :
TF1 : 12.98mm thick AND TF2 : 8.3mm thick = Different dock

I heard 16.5 hours docked clearly, but couldn't quite make out 8.5 hours by itself. Not sure where everyone got 14.5 hours as is being reported, because I definitely didn't hear that.
dissapointed the dock doesnt have back lit keys

8.9 iLuv Executive Case w/BT Keyboard

iLuv Executive Case w/BT Keyboard.
I'm ordering one of these today and will update when I get it. You can remove the keyboard if you want and it seems like a fair price compared to the Samsung OEM keyboards.
Edit:
I guess it would help if I included a link, sorry. Here you go:

I agree, please do let us know how it is once you receive it. I am contemplating purchasing it. Frankly, if I was being honest, one of the major factors of this case that is keeping me from getting it is the "iLuv" branding on the clip. I don't think this was a necessary move, but hey at least they made a case with a removable keyboard!
As for Targus' iPad version of the case, it looks extremely nice.
Alot more companies REALLY need to expand out and develop more Samsung 8.9 cases (there aren't that many options).
I will update if I ever receive it. I have to call Amazon customer service. I'm not sure why, I am being told it is on back order, even though if you look at the site today, it says they are in stock. This kind of stuff just completely aggravates me.

I might look at that option as well. After arguing with Amazon for twenty minutes, I told them to cancel the order and refund my card. Makes no sense why my product is on back order when they still as of today show they are in stock from 6 different merchants.
How about this bluetooth case? Looks similar and cheaper cost wise?

Well in case anyone orders one of these let me save you the trouble.
The keyboard is excellent, but the case is sized for a 10" tablet. The pictures on the Amazon.com website are misleading because they show the case and the tablet being perfectly sized together, but now I'm quite sure they are pics of the 10.1 model. Basically it fits fine, but you end up with about 1" of empty space all around the 8.9 (yuck).
http://www.amazon.com/iLuv-Executive-Detachable-Bluetooth-iSK914BLK/dp/B005JK62SU
They sell these things for the iPad, Galaxy 10.1 and a few others with just the pocket that the tablet slides into being custom to each model. So if you don't mind carrying around a 10" case with a really nice BT keyboard then you might like this one. Like I said the keys are really high quality and feel nice to touch type with. I'm sending it back for a refund.
Just curious,
Iluv makes 2 type of keyboard
BLK14 is 8.9" and BLK12 is for 10.1". Pretty sure the one in amazon is 8.9"?

Keyboard cases that aren't terrible?

So recently, I got sick of my Samsung Epic 4G despite it running the latest Android and being, generally, a great phone. I decided to go to the S4 when I saw bluetooth keyboards were available for it. I like the idea of slider keyboards as my Epic has a five row one that works flawlessly. I'm now asking for any keyboards that people have found that aren't god awful.
So I bought this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009MJ0V5E/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And it is honestly the worst product I have ever bought. Not only is it IDENTICAL to every slider case that exists on amazon (A lot of different brands, too), it has MANY problems.
-The buttons are hard to press down
-The space bar is the width of two letter keys across. TINY
-Delete key is intuitively placed BETWEEN KEYS.
-Delete key is also the size of one letter key.
-No spacing between keys
-Caps and FN keys are not toggle-able.
-Only a 4 row keyboard, so numbers are "FN" buttons
-This requires holding down the FN key to use a series of numbers
Overall, it was the biggest disappointment in my life. It's bad enough where I'm selling the S4 and going back to my Epic. If anyone finds a good BT keyboard and wants to stop me from making this decision, by all means. And there's a white version floating about that's exactly the same that prices anywhere from $30-90.
Go back to your epic. If you really need a slider keyboard THAT bad then this isn't the phone for you. Doubt you'll like any bluetooth keyboard.

It's the problem that there's really only one bluetooth keyboard. If one is to look on Amazon, they all have an identical design, aside from the ones that really are full-sized keyboards.
The problem is that the iPhone crowd started a trend of "buttons are so barbaric". Every phone company jumped on board because adding a keyboard meant higher manufacturing cost. Back when the HTC Touch Pro was on the market, it was thee biggest phone. Now keyboard phones are released with last-years mid-range specs. To get latest specs, you have to axe the keyboard. I simply don't know why Samsung doesn't release their own BT add-on. It's possible, and with a real company behind it, it might actually be a good add-on. There wouldn't be so many clones on Amazon (and there are near a hundred different "companies" that released the same bluetooth keyboard on Amazon) if there weren't a significant amount of buyers.

It's the exact same keyboard only in white. The fact that it's $80 adds layers of insult to injury. Sorry man, wouldn't make the purchase.
I mean, this add-on makes the phone significantly thicker than my Epic, but I'm a guy. They put pockets on our jeans.

I'm wondering if I could frankenstein something out of my spare Samsung Epic and my S4. Would likely require more know-how with the software than I currently have.
epic 4g is still a great phone, the most ergonomic i've ever used and the keyboard really comes in handy not only for typing but as a "holder" to view the screen & navigate
these days i use it as a remote/mouse when i hook my PC up to the tv and it works flawlessly

Logitech Keyboard for 10.5 inch version

Logitech announced a keyboard case specific for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S (10inch)
It can be pre-ordered now for 99 USD and should be available this month.

I wonder if I should go for that or the standard Samsung Keyboard. Does anybody now when this would be available?

i'd trust logitech on making a great keyboard more than samsung.
Looks like neither are available yet. Logitech is accepting pre-orders on their site. I was really hoping to be able to find a cheapo Chinese cover, since I've been really happy with the $30 one I bought for my iPad Air, but it looks like there really aren't many keyboard covers to speak of for Android tablets. Dropping $100 on a keyboard that I'll use infrequently is a tough pill to swallow. Bummer.
Looks exactly like the cheap overpriced keyboard they sell at best buy for the tab 3. I like the way the Samsung one looks more so than what I've seen with the previous case/keyboard, I prefer the "Platinum" best buy brand over this one.
BestBuy has these in stock now. Very nice if that's what you are after. The obvious downside is the weight and limited viewing angles.

I went ahead and bought the logitech. Not real happy with it. It doubles (or more than doubles) the weight of the tablet and the keys provide no tactile feedback.

I agree with mitchellvii on this one. It is a very nice implementation, but there are obvious trade offs. I don't see how they could have made it much lighter and included a keyboard. Or, how they could have improve the keyboard feedback without making it thicker. If you want a thin and light protective case with included keyboard, this one will be hard to beat.
I looked at it. Didn't like the glossy black.
