I've found a nice new use for my N1 and car dock. The camera on the N1 is left exposed while in the car dock, making the N1 a great in-car video recorder.
Here is my first try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0GB8HObJaM
These roads were really bumpy and make the picture seem lower quality. I have another recording on nice smooth roads and the quality is very good. I'll try to post later.
The video quality is also a lot better on the original file than the converted file on youtube.
EDIT: Another short clip where my dock falls off because I didn't secure it properly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xe2DVJKExA

Apart from the terrible audio quality, that works really well. You should run it through a video editor and replace the audio with the intro from Dukes of Hazzard or something
Yep, I noticed the same thing. Here's mine:

Nah, Benny Hill theme FTW.
You could also use time-lapse ( http://www.sheado.net/timelapse/index.html ) , here is my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX4X8gznYp4 made with my Nexus One.
Moved to Accessories thread...
Does anyone have the APK for Time-Lapse? I really want to try this but it is not appearing in the market for me (assume its because I am running 2.2 and its forward locked).
Thanks

Yeah, does anyone know of a good free converter for going from 3gp files to something imovie can use on a mac?
One limitation I noticed is that I can't seem to record continuously for more than 30 minutes.

As in slow? This was just a leisurely drive on a Sunday afternoon, and I've never driven these roads before.
Great use of the Car Dock...Now you just have to post a Youtube video of you pulling someone over and beating the crap out of them for "resisting arrest".

Yes, Google car dock, and you don't need to do anything crazy to set it up, its essentially mounted the way have it for standard gps usage. In my videos you can kind of see the base of the dock in the top right corner of the video but I tweaked it slighty afterwards and you can get an unobstructed image.
I was most impressed with the stability of the image. These roads were quite bumpy and windy but the image is reasonably steady.

ive used this program to convert the 3gp files to mp4. for freeware, it does a decent job.
Been doing this for a while. Use the camera app and set it to 30 minute recording, but if a phone call comes in it'll stop it instantly. Also use MyTracks to record my speed etc. etc. and save the file at the end, as a what if. Also you can import that file into good earth to see your track. Also like to use LISTEN to listen to my podcasts. ;-D
Ended up getting a 16gb card because my other card wasn't enough.. i do have to clean it up after a while.. oh btw, use qik if you don't want that 30 min limit but then you have to remember to disable public broadcast, unless you don't mind people watching you drive ;-D Thank god for tmobiles unlimited internets.

Sweet. I've been looking around for an app to record speed, g force and gps tracking. I'll have to try out MyTracks.
Is anyone planning on getting the VR headset?
If so, what would your intended use-cases be for it?
For those wanting it, have you experienced / followed the Oculus Rift project?

Yes I am definitely interested. No news on when it's to be launched yet sadly.
Yes plan on getting it, yes, work has an oculus and I have no clue what it's use will be.
When I bought my phone the Samsung rep was there.
He told me it will be out soon for the holiday season and it is going to run around 189.99
Yeah i have tried Oculus Rift and found the experience breath taking It is much more emmersive than say 3D glasses ect.
I´ll be buying it once it comes out and i will be using it mainly for watching movies in bed ect.
I think it is a brilliant idea and will turn out to be a must have for note 4 owners.
Yes. I will buy it for sure
Gear vr overheating?
I've read some rumors that the Samsung gear vr having overheating problem's and that you only can use the device for about 25 minutes, also, I want to know if I can look in a 360° viewing. Anybody who have tested this device?

I've heard similar comments (most likely from the same source) about heat being a concern. With VR, having a solid frame rate is critical and it seems that performance (and frame rate) begin to drop when the Note 4's temperature increases. I would assume this is a bigger issue with the more GPU heavy games and apps. Regarding the 360° viewing, that will work. It won't have positional tracking to detect forward/backward and side to side movement like the DK2.
I am currently working on a couple of projects for the DK2 with plans to port some of them over to Gear VR. I am just waiting on the mobile SDK to be released so I can begin the process. I already have the Note 4 and I will be picking up the Gear VR once released to begin testing and identifying its limitations.
Getting? Yes. What is it used for? No idea.

Maybe this video helps to show you what it's like to use the Gear VR. It shows a virtual cinema on the moon and a Circle du soleil show.
But the video can't show you the actual depth and scale of what the user is seeing. The cinema on the moon is huge like a real cinema. There are other applications for an IMAX theater with which you can watch 2D/3D movies and the experience is as good if not better than the real thing. So you can have you own IMAX theater at home, in bed, on a plane, hotel, ect.
edit: Since i'm a new member i can't post links yet, but since it's a youtube video, just copy and paste it to google.

360° Headtracking yes with better latency and better screen than DK2 but no positional tracking yet, but Oculus is working on that for a later version.
But sixense announced yesterday that STEM works with Gear VR (so far one STEM at a time), which could also be used for positional tracking.

Yes, half the reason I got interested in the Note. Can't wait.
maybe. depends on price. if it' over $100US, not likely. I just don't think I'll use it that much. It'll be more a tinker toy.
I would use it to check out some games. Maybe interesting for watching movies or tv shows. It's just not something I think i want to drag around with me on a regular basis.
iirc I saw company wasgonna be making a very cheap Gear VR substitute - £20-30 or so. Amirite in thinking there's basically no electronics in the Gear VR, just a frame/lenses/strap?
If so, then I'd really expect cheap copies to come out as there's not a lot to it...
e: and I'm not talking about the cardboard one
To be honest the only reason why I started looking at the Note 4 was because of Gear VR. And it’s the primary reason why I’m not looking at the Nexus 6 or Droid Turbo right now even though I wanted to switch it up this year (this is my 3rd Note device in a row). And because John Carmark and Oculus Rift are behind it I know that this will not be some half-assed attempt like those cardboard boxes or generic head pieces.
For me portable VR (if done right) is next gen stuff. I know it won’t be perfect due to the lack of a head tracking sensor and mobile power (when compared to a powerful pc) but the benefit is that you’re not tied to a computer via cables and the experience is tailored to the Note 4.

I'm not looking for a cheap Gear VR substitute. I want something that will fully utilize the hardware and software of the Note 4; not something that will work with a iPhone 5 or Samsung S4. When you plug the Note 4 into the Gear VR it goes into a full Gear VR experience. The software is made to work with the Note 4 and that was one of the talking points when John Carmack got on stage. You still have sensors, memory card and a keypad that is powered off the Note 4. It's not just a piece of plastic with lenses.

Hi All,
I have bumped into limited activities on S2 s-health app such as circuits, HIT, aerobics, weight training or just simple sports tracking. The ones pre-loaded on s2 are very limited and really useless. So if i want to track my exercising i have to set up on walking or running which records useless parameters such as speed, why on earth would you need your speed whilst training in weights section
I can see that there are a lot more selections on s-health app but you can only track it fro your phone standalone from s2 gear.
now is there a way to sync or add more sports activities into s2?
I would appreciate if you could guide me.
Thanks
Id like to know this too!
For now unfortunately no.
I have the exact same problem! I don't understand why Samsung hasn't included more activities? There is so much more space to turn the bazzle for more activities!
I just want, at least, an "other" category that tracks heart rate and estimates calories burned

Yeah "other" or general gym would do as well. Not practical to measure your gym workout under walking
Any solution yet anyone?
I agree with the rest, this would be very useful, i like to go kayaking, it would be very helpful to have that as an option on the watch. You would not think it would be to difficult for them to make the ability to have the same activities on the watch as on the phone. Hopefully they will get something done with it soon.
You would think that this new amazing watch would do at LEAST what the crappy little Gear Fit did from which I upgraded... So far I'm not overly impressed... no Google Now, no sleep monitoring, no real customization... maybe with time there will be more functionality, but I am wondering (since I just got it 3 days ago) if I should have went with the Moto 360 g2 instead...
That sums up Samsung great hardware but piss poor software integration and updates, so an article the other day saying their own employees say this !!!
Look at the picture i post, it is the same with sleep tracking, i am so disapointed ... my last sam**** product ...

From what i have been able to gather from outside sources.
It is the Tizen OS.
I have used an app for working out called JEFIT, i use the Pro version.
This is a very good app.
I contacted them to see about future app updates and watch integration. With Tizen, Android Wear, and Apple.
They did not give me a full answer but did answer with using the Apple watch as an example.
I do see that there should be something very soon to be able to get this watch in the field it should be.
The other problem:
most people that want a smartwatch are not Lift Junkies, more of cardio junkies.
So the market to create and adapt for the lifters to utilize isnt as high as everyone else who wants to use the GPS to track distance and speed, as well as how much cardio they did.
I have been rethinking the whole watch thing too.
Im beginning to think i should have gotten the Moto 360 g2

I created another thread for this but no replies in a week, looks like you have the headset in hand, can you comment on performance specifically the lag and blur that was reported in the early reviews ?
I have nothing to compare it to but i dont see any lag, the screens res is pretty low, some vids are a little blurry and hard on the eyes but for $200 its pretty sweet
its nice that the phone powers it so you dont have to charge it

For something that might not be so great off the bat, you would think they would try to make it the best they can... I almost got cardboard apps running. Had to plug in the headset and uninstall the vr home while it was plugged in. This caused it to show the cardboard apps to actually show its content in the viewer but all in the wrong orientation.

I can tell you do not buy this! I had Cardboard experience with Note 4 and its much more immersive and resolution are much better! I do hope LG will update it soon, especially Youtube. Youtube can be play in carboard videos mode and it is huge mistake that LG does not support it!
Same problem for me
So i also bought the lg vr and i have the same issue. None of the cardboard/vr apps in the app store are accessible in the vr. This leads me to my main point of dissatisfaction is that there is NOTHING to do on the lg vr 360. Not a single game or anything. Just Jaunt and Youtube and jaunt is so buggy i have only been able to use it once! Its like owning a swimming pool on tatooine! They didnt even equip the vr with ONE game... Not even pong or something super simple. I love the design and actually think its a great vr headset just... There is ABSOLUTLY nothing to do. Almost getting to the point of regeting the purchase.
I hear you lg has been my choice pf phones for years but I am ready to return my v20 and vr360 what a disappointment no games doesnt let you watch all vr content lg has really let me down please fix this.
So I am a first gen moto 360 user till this day. Unfortunately the battery, fragile band and overall watch is seeming to show its age to me finally. I am currently using a nexus 6p and have no intention of jumping over to a samsung device as I dont quite enjoy touchwiz or the update cycles outside of direct google devices. While shopping around for options I keep finding myself drawn to this watch which doesnt seem out of the ordinary since they are pretty difficult to come by outside of ebay here in the states at the moment. I do have some questions since I do use a few of what I consider the basics of the google ecosystem daily and the samsung reps at the few bestbuys I visited were less than helpful in solving my problems (surprising I know).
- I am a big google now user with my moto 360 and phone, I know s voice doesnt come close but how does it react with commands like "what time is **** open until" or "call **** on 123 main street". Specifics like that are what I love. Or simply the reminder feature based on location and not simply time.
- I am also worried about how it will handle or if it can even handle the notifications and controls for my google music or google messenger since from what I gather anything outside of samsung apps can be a bit spotty.
- I just read in another thread that google maps does exist on the samsung app store so if thats true would it sync up with my phone navigation or work independently (I dont plan to get the lte model or if I do, I dont plan on using it stand alone since I am on verizon).
I find myself at a crossroad since I really enjoy the idea of samsung pay on my watch since that is one of if not the main feature I am jealous of the samsung devices for, but to give up all the other android wear features I seem to live with seems like more cons than pros at this time. I dont seem too thrilled with any of the other android wear watches and with their future looking grim I fear the pickings are becoming more and more slim as time progress'.
My first smart watch was the original Moto 360 as well. Like you, I was hesitant to move to a Tizen based smart watch. After owning the Fro tier for almost a month now, I can say this watch is a significant upgrade over the Moto 360, and the Tizen operating system has several advantages over Android Wear.
1. Battery life is significantly better. I can get two days with AOD on, and 3-4 days with AOD off.
2. Samsung Pay alone is worth the upgrade.
3. The UI and rotating bezel are superior to Android Wear.
Cons:
1. S Voice isn't as good as Google Now. I am not able to to the things you like to do with Google Now. To be honest, I didn't use Google Now as much as you do. While I may not be able to find out when a particular place closes, it is adequate enough to send a text or call someone using my voice. As a side note, I changed my command to respond to "Hey Google." I wanted to make it different than my phone, so I wouldn't trigger both.
2. Boy, I can't think of anything else. Just get the Gear S3. You won't regret it.

Google maps doesn't work (at least not right out of the box), but there is an app you can download. I thought I would miss this since I use my phone for navigation, but I haven't missed it one bit. Now that Android Auto works on the phone, I have been using that. I think I used the Motorola 360 for navigation while I was walking twice in two years.
I haven't tried Spotify because I use Google Play Music. The controls for GPM work the same they do on the Moto 360. The music is played through the phone, not the watch just like in the Moto 360.
One more thing that was a concern for me before buying. I use Verizon Messages+ instead of the Samsung Messages app and was concerned I wouldn't be able to reply to messages. I am able to reply and create texts from the watch using Verizon Meaages+ without an issue. I created a thread walking you through how to make this work. It is very easy.
Alright well you talked me into it. Luckily today Best Buy got both models back in stock. I ordered the classic to be here on Friday and although I like the grip on the bezel for the Frontier Model better, I do like the stylish and more professional look in my opinion of the classic Model. Luckily if I don't like the classic after a few days I am a silver member and can simply swap with the frontier LOL.
Coming from a Moto360 1st gen too.
Owning a Nexus 6p too!
Heavy Google Now user too!!!!
So I guess we share something.
I was also hesitant but finally decided to buy it. So now I own a Gear S3 Frontier.
1- S Voice? Almost useless. I am so disappointed about this. My only hope is that software related issues eventually get a solution.
2- Notifications and control handling is superb. Not only for Spotify (recently added to Tizen market) but Google Play music or whatever you may be streaming to your Chromecast.
3- Maps? I still don't see the point using a map on the wrist. Never used it on my Moto360 (probably due to the overwhelming battery drain issue).
That's what I can tell after a month.
Sorry if I am late and I hope you find my comments useful.

As wrist based GPS for pedestrian use is very useful for directions when waking around on foot. It's better than walking around holding your cellphone out in front of your face in order to refer to directions.
