Google fix problem with wifi-on battery drain (miscellaneous). https://code.google.com/p/android-developer-preview/issues/detail?id=189#c112
You do know that Miscellaneous is not specifically related to WiFi? It's just the difference between what The battery chip says has been used versus what android has guessed has been used?

Miscellaneous is specifically designed to highlight the difference I mentioned above. If you have Miscellaneous in your battery stats and click it to open, thats what it says. Whether Misc gets higher due to WiFi drain, sure maybe... but misc itself is nothing to do with wifi
ok
Ok my friend,i dont know abaut that, but people reported, and google.....misc. bttery drain only happened if wifi is on.....some people say radio from 4.4.2 not 4.4.4 is solution for better misc, but google not recomanded older radio for 5.0 (say not tested).....
I have good battery day life (all day + 3h screen on internet )(rom extrasmooth 1.2 with franko 66 kernel) all woking very good....
Dont kill the messenger...? and happy day to you
I have watched this rumour of 12 November release and delayed due to this bug blah blah blah unfold from the beginning.
+ArtemRussakovskii said in one comment on one personal post (not Android Police) that his source at Google had told him that the release had been delayed due to a bug (didn't specify what).
Then someone followed up his comment to say that a bug on the tracker had been noted as fixed.
Then someone put 2 and 2 together and made 17, and said that the bug must be what delayed the images being released.
Now the Android/Nexus 5 rumour mill has been reported and blogged that this issue was definitely what was delaying the release, and it definitely will be released next week!
Hilarious when you look at it from a distance, but irritating that people get sucked in to this web of he-said she-said rumour nonsense. All game from some throw away comment on a google+ post.

is the RC33 include maps 3.0, or they are talking about "CUPCAKE" ??
personally i think that rc33 was sent because of the option to check for updates manually. that leads to the conclusion that google is the one responsible for the updates. which leads to the conclusion that there might be a HUGE update comming soon. i would say a month or two.... is it going to be the cupcake? i dont know but i think its going to be a major one

I don't think this feature is going to help battery life.
i don't think any feature will ever increase battery life =/
not that it really matters. extended battery's are a godsend.

AFAIK, nothing. the plus is that, eventually, any phone with gps and google maps can use it (computers get in on the action too).
This uses cell-ID which is a general vicinity obtained from ur cell tower's signal. Most of the time, unless you explicitly turn it off, it's on by default. This does not drain much of your batter and is definitely much less than using the actual GPS chip.

besides that everything else is pretty much the same.... ok.
the advantace that this will have over loopt is that google will be rolling it out to a lot more phone platforms than Loopt is currently on.

Haha you won't be getting it? Looks like big brother is gonna bend you over & force you to get it! From what I've read, its gonna be part of google maps, correct? You have no choice. When you update to RC33 or whichever update it comes with, your gonna have it next time you open your maps app

I wanna believe that this is more than just a tiny taste from google. Part of me thinks that this update is as much about "fixing bugs" as it is building some behind the scenes framework for cupcake.
To me this make sense, upgrade some code now and get everything in place, such as the manually check for updates, to reduce the size of the next install...
I would love to belive that this is true...and part of me thinks we could see it soon.
Mobile World Congress starts on Feb 16th-19th, Google, T-mobile, HTC are all scheduled th be there...could be a coincidence, could not be. Just like the fact that RC33 will be rolled out between Feb 5th and 15th...so everyone should have it by the time MWC rolls around. Again...likely? No. Could it happen? Yes.

Big brother already can, has been, and unless we enact legislation to limit their power, will be watching!
Having one less app on your phone won't prevent them from tapping in to the carriers networks and yoinking your approximate positioning info (with CDMA triangulation its almost as good as standalone GPS; TDMA/GSM its within 50 meters or so--and yes, WCDMA/3G falls under CDMA..In fact, CDMA relies on GPS and GPS is code-division with spreading and walsh codes and everything...read into it, its interesting stuff)
I say screw it, let me see where my friends are; Big Brother will ALWAYS know where YOU are, unless you pull the battery.
yeah after 9/11 there was legislation that passed that every Cell phone sold in the US needs to have a GPS type of system in it. I think thats were A-GPS came around. But I could be wrong.

CDMA = Code Division Multiple Access
GPS = Global Positioning System
CDMA doesn't use GPS at all
The other way round, it would kinda make sense as GPS uses orthogonal codes (but who doesn't these days...)

Ok guys so I might not seem "reputable" Ive always been more of an observer of the forums..instead of putting my 2cents in about everything..yes I work for a T-Mobile authorized dealer for the past 3yrs..4yrs @ Verizon b4 this.. every so often LG/Samsung/Nokia reps stop in.. today it was LG who I haven't seen since the g2x launch.. obviously I asked questions.. he told me that the g2x was written w/code for 2.3 to be updated soon after release.. the problem was the code was written wrong..and thats why the phone reboots..because it thinks theres an update so it shuts down..and it took an extremely long time to find where the problem was and write proper code.. they didn't want to take the chance of releasing an update without being 100% sure, obviously consumers wouldn't be happy with a faulty update..he continued to say it is absolutely a software issue..he also said the update will be in two parts.. the 1st is a software patch to fix the reboot issue and the 2nd is gingerbread. He took down my email address so he can send me the update when he gets it next week..so that way reps can test it out and start pushing it in stores.. in my opinion I don't see the update coming in the next few weeks to customers if an LG reps g2x isn't even updated yet..and is barely starting to roll out for reps to test out.. sorry for the long post..and once again..DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER! Just putting this out there...I talked to the lawyer from the class action lawsuit. Its very legit. With that hitting Tmobile/LG if there ever was a real update(and I don't think there was) I bet it is now going to be even slower getting to us.

I am rep for technical care and I am currently testing the 2.3 rom on my personal G2X. From what I can tell so far, it is pretty much in the same state + some stability improvements that came with the leaked rom a couple months ago.
Hopefully this update won't mess up with my non-reboot G2x.
Seems like baseband patch first and OS the next.

actually this makes sense.
1) people who have said their phones said there was an update after phone rebooted .. this has been mentioned several times so that part makes sense.
2) you are the second person from a different source today to mention an update for next week.
obviously its probably just getting to tmobile next week but at least thats something.
Let us know how it goes. if you dont see an internal update by next week than well know thats its probably not trust worthy. but what he said makes sense regarding the update stuff.
and hopefully the gb update fixes gps and wifi
thanks man at least its something.

I can say my battery life appears to be better, no random reboots yet.
I've also previously experienced what I call hibernate which is where I have to press the power key 12 times to unlock the screen. Seems to run a bit smoother as well.
Problems so far are the camera sucks now. When the screen goes to standby after I load a webpage and I unlock the screen, it reverts to the previous page.
I have had a few occasions where I have had to click a link like 10 times to get data to load the page. That all I've notices so far within the 24 hours I've been running the update.

No one cares except Xiaomi is being a cuunt for not already releasing 8.1 .
Have You seen release plan for 8.1?? AFAIK thats not published yest so You can scream as much as You like.
Yes it will probably come within next 3-5 updates but as for now You can either wait or go for Custom ROM...
That kind of insults are actually pretty pointless and quite childish to see over and over again, and absolutely for no good to anyone.
Or You think that Xiaomi will hurry up because You wrote that?

it is so frustrating that they release phones so often with no chance to really refines them. then there is google that puts out versions of android before developers get a chance to master or migrate fully to the latter.
i heard the new storage security in android 11 can cause hiccups like slow loading and crashes due to the new storage activity due to the new security rules.
should i stay on android 10 just like so many stayed on android 4.x.x for so long to keep compatibility

I did and as I said I've never had any issues with an update in 11 years. I'm sure Sammy will have it figured out before they release it. All my phones have been rooted until the Note 7, and you take more chance flashing a rom written by some dev than an update from a major player.

But samsung does not work or develop the third party apps or what not that you install on your phone. Any unsupported app you use will likely be crippled(heard that loading times can be 100× longer to start the app) and any dev too aggravated to to fix it may stop supporting his or her project. Also most devs have not even cought up to android 10. Yea i hope to many update and google learns their error in this mess

If it does happen and I seriously doubt it, I'll just reflash with odin and restore my backup. My glass is half full, not half empty. I have friends on other forums running 11 beta on Pixels with no issues.
Am I in a pixel or oneplus thread? Note 20 ultra users most likely get Android 11 before March 2021 and chances are that any kinks should be ironed out by then. I don't understand why this conversation needs to happen this early.

I will absolutely update as soon as its available. I always sign up for the beta each year to get the update ASAP. Most people complain that Samsung doesn't update fast enough. Haven't heard anyone complain yet that they update TOO fast, LOL.
These concerns happen every year, and they always end up being a non-issue.
As far as app compatibility issues, that's the developers' issues. They are advised long in advance what they need to do to remain compatible with the current OS.

LOL. I don't think I lucked out. I think issues with OS updates are far less common than you think. I'd say you are definitely in the minority.
I've been on Android since the original Moto Droid. I've had almost every Moto, LG, Samsung, Nexus, and Pixel. I've been through beta OS updates, official updates, side loaded updates, unofficial ported updates, you name it.
You're going back 5 YEARS and saying because an update broke your favorite application, that Google/Samsung updates too often? Is every update perfect? No, but they certainly don't break everything the way you think they do.
~
Android updates on Samsung phones are always an anti-climax. Samsung tend to have implemented all the best features that a new Android update brings already. What you end up with is a range of bugs or security features that break your apps. I will always go for the update that's offered but I am not excited about it or bothered if there's a delay in any roll outs.

No you are absolutely right. I'm out in Canada and if memory serves me right we got Android 10 at the beginning of January a month or so after the US. It was the years prior that the OS update came out with the S series release. And to your point Samsung has stepped up their game, tremendously. It's right after the Pixels and Oneplus which is not too shabby. And getting faster to boot. No complaints here. :good:

So true. I read one of the big changes with Android was bubble-like messaging, much like FB Messenger. Uh... I've had that in Samsung for a couple years now I think? My text app always pops up in a bubble instead of the notifications panel.

I don't think Google will fix it, another Vista.
Probably stay on Pie for the life of this phone and hope Google regains their sphincter control with 12 or 13...
So true. I read one of the big changes with Android was bubble-like messaging, much like FB Messenger. Uh... I've had that in Samsung for a couple years now I think? My text app always pops up in a bubble instead of the notifications panel.[/QUOTE]
you know you can change/turn that off to get the notification view of it

I saw that too, wtf? Messenger does that all the time with Pie.
Lol, half of the time I disable it because it's a nuisance.
I've backed up all my Playstore apps with APK Export because of them either being taken down in Playstore or turned into a bloody mess to adapt to 10/11.
I also have a couple trusted apps the use overlays, Q would render them useless or a pain to use.
I remember the horror of Vista and Lollipop... Pie is running very well, WYSIWYG
The most I'll do for now is an occasional reload of Pie if needed. All my data including the all apks/system updates are stored on my SD card so reloads are much easier. No screwing around with or waiting for Playstore. Any app that allows it's setup to be exported is also saved there.
With over 230 GB of data it saves a lot of time coping it from the laptop too.
I never have a phone without an SD card slot... you know like an Apple.

thanks for the info i have a few apps i want to get off my lg g4 that are a miss in the android store
I have owned a lot of Android phones but I have to say, this is the worst one ever.
Dropped network connections, drifting GPS, bad fingerprint scanner, unresponsive apps, and overheating. I have 2 of these phones and they both suffer the same issues. I have tried all the updates on both phones and have done multiple factory resets. This has to be an embarrassment on the part of google.
Looks like a lottery I own one pixel 6a and I didn't notice any of issues you mentioned, maybe fingerprint is a little bit clunky some times, but that's just it.
lol best phone I've ever had

How often do you use Android Auto and use the navigation? I get drifted out of GPS a couple of times every trip.

I use Google maps navigation, probably every second day.
Honestly I almost like 6a over my 6. I did fresh install A13, root, custom kernel, can't complain. Best free phone I ever had.

So then I got unlucky twice? Surely there must be some folks out there experiencing the same issues as me.

You can always ask for a replacement if they're still under warranty.
bad for you, 6a is the best phone I've ever had
The only thing on your list that I'm experiencing is occasional overheating, which then clears up almost as quickly as it came on. I'm on OEM A13 with the latest September update.

I hate to agree, but I AGREE. This is by far the worst Pixel I've owned.
Definitely the worst android phone i've had.
Really slow to switch between normal and work profile
Can't even register my right thumbprint as it keeps saying unreadable but works on 4 other phones in the house quite fine
Battery life is terrible. I use it as my work phone and it mostly sits on standby but still only gives me about a day or two with almost no use.
Just a poor device. Very much doubt i'd ever get another Pixel of any kind. Seems they've had bad software updates several times
No issues, running the Sept update on two phones. No problems with data, GPS, fingerprint ( which is the 1st time ever that I have used it, and I did it because people were reporting issues ), etc...
I will say though that the September update has resolved my fingerprint issues. Time will tell if everything else has improved.

My issues are subjective. If their QA staff disagrees with my issues, I would be charged for the replacement.

You can download the OTA and sideload it. It actually is quite nice since it skips the "optimizing apps" process.

Yikes! I remember the days of a work controlled phone. That is never fun. Sorry man!
