Buying a Used Fuze, Have a Question

Hey guys, I'm new here and I had a couple of questions before I bought a used Fuze. Right now I have verizon and I am switching over to att because my contract is over.
1. I am scared to buy a used fuze because if I buy a used one from someone and it is stolen can it still be activated?
I know that if I buy a verizon phone that is stolen then it can't be activated.

not sure how you handle it in usa but in europe I never had to activate any phone
just pop in the sim and type in the sim code
heard about the aktivating in usa in relation to iphones

The thing is that I'm gonna sign a 2 year contract with att, I just wanted to know if I buy a used phone and it is stolen will I still be able to use it.
I am not going to take a chance on buying a stolen phone if I can't use it.

Get a phone you know for sure isn't stolen, make sure it comes with all the accessories and box and then you can feel safe.
Do not buy a phone if you know it is stolen, that is both illegal and wrong.

if you buy a stolen phone which have been reported stolen the police give
the IMEI number hardcoded in the phone to the operators to be added to their
block of service list in the country
and other countries the operators have a working relationship with

Ya ok, then the best thing to do is buy a new phone.
I was saying that if I buy a used phone and it is stolen then I wouldn't be able to activate it.
I didn't mean to say I WAS gonna buy a stolen phone, no no.

if you're signing a 2 yr contract anyways, why not get a subsidized phone straight from ATT. up until a few days ago, wireless att com website had the refurbished Fuze for FREE w/ 2yr contract. just checked website now and it is out of stock. they go in-out of stock so call in and ask.

Here in the USA we don't have the IMEI blocking service, even if the phone was stolen you can still use it. When my Blackberry was stolen I called AT&T to report it and all they could do was block my PIN from the device and not the device itself. It's not like Verizon or in any other country.

verizon uses CDMA... if (for whatever reason) you need to change phones, you have to go through Verizon to activate the ESN(cdma version of IMEI) on the phone to tie to your Verizon account
for GSM, as long as the phone is unlocked, just slip the SIM card into in and the phone should work
one reason why i like GSM better: you don't have to do much to get a replacement phone

Hello there! I live in Argentina I bought a Motorola ATT supposelly "unlocked" by eBay. When the cellphone arrived home and I tried with an Argentina SIM card the phone was locked to ATT.
So I tried to buy an unlock code by eBay but code was not found.
Please can you help me? The imei is: 356693031939442
Really I need your help, it took me month to get the money to buy the phone and now I cant use it.

I don't ebay. But couldn't you go through them to get your money back for false advertisment. Anways, good luck and i hope you get it unlocked.

I don't know how things work in Argentina, but I know here in the states, if you've been with your carrier long enough you can request an unlock code from them at no charge.

Erisftw is right you should open a Dispute via PAPAL for False Advertising you will be able to get your money back as this is Frowned upon very strongly in ebay,unless you are of course happy with the phone

^^ Exactly what this guy said. CONTACT EBAY RIGHT AWAY!
CALL THEM ON THE PHONE. Say, "Item not as described". Tell them you want to escalate it to a claim. They will tell you to ship the item back and give them a tracking number, also get delivery confirmation. You will get your money back as soon as eBay gets delivery confirmation from the postal service.

The fastest way
I am not going to add anything useful to the conversation. BUT....
While the Paypal dispute resolution center is a great thing. I think the fastest and easiest way to go about this is to get a freaking code. He has the phone there, there's no need to reship wait and buy another and so on. That is if he can get a code... That was the question.

Open a dispute, or spend $2.15, its not that expensive

I say he should ask him for the $3 to get a unlock code. He will probably say yes to avoid shipping costs of sending it back and the hassle of dealing with a return.

I bought several times in Ebay from Argentina, I opened a dispute once and got my money back, but maybe, in this case, it's better to just unlock the phone in your hands.
Anyway, I'm willing to buy a phone, mainly for internet and email while traveling in Argentina. I want to buy an AT&T blackberry or similar. I know this unlocked phones do work for sms and calling, but I don't know if they work for Email and Internet or 3G: did you unlock your phone? does it work for Internet and Email?

Unlocking phones is illegal now, what about the second hand market?

I was just reading an Engadget post about how unlocking a carrier locked phone is illegal now, in the US anyway. It was long, but really didn't answer the question I had. I am on T-mobile with no contract and like to switch phones every few months. My most frequent stop for phones is eBay, although recently I've gotten unlocked phones from Amazon and Newegg as well. On eBay, I usually buy a locked carrier version (usually At&t) because they are usually cheaper than straight unlocked ones (carrier branded) and much cheaper than international unlocked ones. Then I buy an unlock code from eBay for a few bucks and voila. For some phones that are carrier exclusive or have no international variant yet, this is the only way to get them.
Does this new rule apply to me? I'm thinking no since it is second hand after all and I'm not the one who signed the contract, but they are vague about second-hand unlocking. I also sell my phone on eBay once I'm done using it.

I think of you as you are to unlock the phone which actually was first locked.
This is my opinion, now expect others to comment on

I think as long as the original contract has been satisfied it doesn't matter.

I have a unlocked phone from ebay on simple mobile which is gsm can use it anywhere in the world and no contract, I just rooted my sisters new S3 on the same phone carrier its under contract,lets see what happens I dont expect anything its my phone in so many words as long as I pay the bill Right ?

As i know in europe and maybe also in US it is not illegal to unlock your phone - if you have no contract anymore with any provider !
Because it's "YOUR PHONE" and if you make the choice to cut it in small slices - why not - it is yours (when paid) !
But one decision - you have to unlock yourself - as i know it is not allowed by companies in US !

Yeah I have no idea what some of you people are talking about. Or understand the Engrish. The phone is sold to an end user and the software is also licensed to them. This is the relationship between the carrier and the user entering a contract. However, I don't buy direct from the carrier or sign any contracts. Thus, I am not a license holder at all. Furthermore, the ruling allows for "legacy" devices to be unlocked and sold. Legacy device would be loosely understood as second hand, basically what I am buying and unlocking.

They'll have to respond to this issue now so hopefully it gets changed and you won't have to worry.

If you have the carrier unlock it, it is not illegal.
If you use your upgrade to get a cheaper phone with a contract and then use a 3rd party SIM unlocker to use on another carrier then it IS illegal.
Start with asking the carrier it is locked by for an unlock code

Hello, i'm new to this forum so I apoligise in advance if i've posted in the wrong section. I have just brought a Samsung Galaxy s3 mini with box Locked and branded to o2 uk. I paid a fair price for it but now have concerns and think I may have shot myself in the foot. Basically she Got the phone on contract and could not get on with it so bought an iphone 4 elsewhere and decided to sell the samsung(to me).
I am not stupid when it comes to technology so i asked her if it was on a contract (just incase she pulls the insurance scam on me) and she said it was but she has the contract sim card in her iphone now. Hyperthetically if she did not pay her bill for whatever reason will the phone get blacklisted on o2 in the uk? or does that only happen when the handset is reported lost or stolen? If she does not pay her bill will it just be the sim card that gets barred and not the phones imei number? In my experience it has just been the sim card and the phone ended up being fine but i've heard rumors so I would like to clear this up.

Oneplus 8 Sim Unlocking (T-mobile) Help?!

Long story short; I bought a phone off Ebay; a Oneplus 8 for T-mobile. It was listed as locked but the seller didn't disclose there was still a lien on the phone. I had to argue with him for a week before he agreed to do a refund. I got the refund and sent the phone back to him only for USPS to return the phone to me as undeliverable. T-mobile refuses to unlock the phone but says I'm free to do with the phone whatever I want. Ebay says I'm the rightful owner at this point and the seller is refusing to communicate with me.
Is there anyway to get this phone unlocked so I can use it with my current service?
