[MOD] [Moto E] [Flashable Zip] Dalvik + Bionic Lib Optimization - Moto E Android Development

"We now have Qualcomm-Optimized Dalvik Libraries thanks to recent Moto X"
I found this in the Nexus 5 forums. It improves benchmarks and in most cases makes the phone seem smoother. Enjoy.
How To:
1. Flash Bionic
2. Flash Dalvik
3. Reboot
Flash in recovery. Completely undo-able, no partition wipe occurs when flashing.
Note: Only tested on XT-1022 Stock 4.4.4
Do a Nandroid Backup first
What does this do?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47913987
TO UNDO:
- Flash the stock lib zip.
or
- Reflash system partition.
Test ZIP for CyanogenMod 11 added please Test and Report
Don't forget to hit thanks!
I am not responsible for any damage to your device, do not claim.

if i'am in CM ROM latest nightly build now, should i flash the CM Test zip and Moto_X_2014-Dalvik_for_Moto_E.zip too ?
or just the test zip ?

cm11 zip is enough...

I'm running stock 4.4.4 on my xt1023 and I actually saw a slight decrease in performance. I was really hoping it would help because this worked great on my Nexus7 last year.
Stock
With MotoX Bionic/Dalvik

All I'm going to say is that this works wonderfully well as opposed to stock! A simple before and after test with linpack proved about 40mflop increase, this coming from a kernel/android developer and RHCE with over.20 years experience in Linux hacking/dev.. I am surprised this mod has so few comments.
Tested using pac latest nightly with shocksgen kernel. No probs at all.. Also it's probably important for folks to know this combo is with the US Cellular XT1019 cdma only variant.
P.S. maybe we should steal some more of the libs from the latest moto x sources

I flashed the all 3 (qc, bionic, dalvik) You won't get a boot loop..
All the .zip flashes is a few .so libs, download the stock zips just in case something does go wrong, but pretty sure it won't

I flashed all three as you said & ended in bootloop.
Read this article : http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/4-4-4-4-x-qualcomm-optimized-dalvik-t2546120
All you have to do is flash only qc-cm11-test zip if you're using CM11, no other flashables.
However, I didn't see any improvement in benchmark result in Geekbench3.

Doesn't make sense you got a boot loop and I didn't, but sorry for misinformation.. I did read op from what you posted, still seems dalvik is also needed for the full improvement while the bionic isn't necessary. However with pac nightly latest using all 3 was an improvement and DID NOT result in a boot loop for me.

I had noticeable improvement over stock! Many thanx

I'm using carbon ROM cm11 based will this b OK to flash?

I tryed it on my XT1021 stock rom 4.4.4, Bionic lib makes benchs worse, dalvink realy I cant say, so I reflashed stock Bionic lib, but left dalvik lib, for trying

Tested

Working great for me, thanks a lot! Your LZ kernel is working great as well. No hiccups yet. I'm loving all the sizing features and color options. I'm also glad this switched to SuperSU, as I use dsploit a lot and superuser is not friendly. I was having to reflash SuperSU after each CM10 update.

I just flashed your ROM everything seems real snappy and fast but I used CPU spy and the frequencies are strange most of the time its at min or max theres almost no frequencies used in between? Is that a bug in the new kernel or a cm10 bug? Otherwise great ROM so far thanks!

I didnt need to flash any supersu files? Supersu is installed and i restored all my backups from TB so i know root is working fine without having to flash over anything else but the rom and gapps of course.
Does the camera only save to the internal storage?
@Bradlees wifi calling? No... I might add it later after I get the ui bug fixed (paranoid preferneces)
@DiViNEX CPU spy and the frequencies are strange. Logcat perhaps... Otherwise, I won't be able to track it. Might be the app conflicting with something because the built in cpu monitor looks fine.
@cheddarbob41 su files? Oops... old flashing instructions... I updated OP... Thanks
@mytasteinwomen Does the camera only save to the internal storage? For now, yes... Might change that to external storage later...

on download page, got them up now
got a quick question for ya...
I've run 2 or 3 different ROMS on this phone already (BoostMobile version).
they've all installed correctly & worked as described in their respective threads.
the only mod I couldn't get to work on stock was the Faux kernel
(although it did work on the other ROMs).
what are the differences in ROMs (other than GSM vs. CDMA)
ie.: 1031-1034 ?
Thanks
I actually activated this w/ RingPlus as a spare phone, been working great.
Not much besides connection gsm/CDMA most or all of hardware is same.

Seems to run smooth, just installed and am currently testing on a Boost Mobile Moto G. I will report back with any issues. Thank you!
EDIT: DSP Manager crashing while using Google Music. I had this issue on the Paranoid Android rom as well.

Hmm, anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?
First of all I started with stock rooted 4.4.
I booted to recovery (CWM) and factory reset, wiped cache, formatted system, data and cache and wiped Dalvik. Installed CM11, installed GAPPS and rebooted. Did this a couple times and I keep getting stuck on the cyanogenmod boot logo. Any ideas?

First boot can take a while, just give it some time it should boot up once it gets done creating the dalvik-cache for apps in the system...
I let it sit for at least a half hour and it was still stuck on the boot logo.

Nexus 5 will not boot after trying to install ElementalX ROM.

Hi guys,
I have ran into a problem. I tried to flash ElementalX ROM to my Nexus 5 and it will not boot. I have installed a few other ROMS with no problems at all. However, when I try to flash the N5-0.43 version of ElementalX it will not boot. Any ideas why not?
Thank you,

I installed the 4.4.3 factory image first. Then, rooted it. Is this the correct gapps verison gapps-kk-20140105-signed? I also tried using the 4.4.3 Google Stock Package but every time I tried to flash it I got a message saying it failed.
What elemental x rom? I thought that is only a kernel.
If you flashed the factory image, then you just need to flash the kernel - no need for any gapps .. (and the gapps you posted there seems "old", for 4.4.3 it should be something from June )

Opps yes I guess it is just a kernel. I even tried flashing it without any gapps and when it reboots it gets stuck at the Google screen

If you are stock be sure to flash the aosp version (not the cm one). Other than that use all the defaults in aroma installer of ex and make sure you don't apply any under volt (use the stock frequencies).
If that fails go back to clean system and stock kernel, do a full system boot and try again!

I am flashing the AOSP ElementalX-N5-0.43 on top of the Factory 4.4.3 image which is rooted. Maybe the problem was that I was doing a factory reset and stuff like I was flashing a custom ROM. I am just going to try to flash it and nothing else now.
************ It worked that time. Thanks for your help everyone.
Does anyone know if there is any Custom ROM's out yet that use 4.4.3 that I could use with the ElementalX kernal for 4.4.3? Right now I am just using the stock ROM. Thanks again

There really isn't much difference between 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 - I didn't even know 0.43 was only for 4.4.3. I've been running it for a couple of days on 4.4.2 without issue, so I doubt that is the cause of it not booting.

Ahhh okay thank you for your reply. Can I make any changes to ElemetalX functions from within the OS? I'm trying to figure out what all I can do with it. I'm also trying to find some other cool stuff I can add to my phone. Being new to all this I am sure there is a lot I don't know about. I have been reading up on Exposed and see there is some cool stuff you can install with it. I'm just trying to figure out what some cool options would be.
********How can I uninstall ElemetalX and flash Bricked-Kernel instead? I want to try that one as it has faux123 sound control built into it. I am having a hard time hearing calls and stuff on my Nexus 5
Kernels flash over each other. However with custom kernels its best to reflash the rom or restore a Nandroid backup first.
First thing to do is to read all the sticky threads

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to get the hang of all this. I restored my backup of the stock ROM. Then I flashed the latest nightly build of CM. I used the signed kk gapps from 1/05/2014 I believe it was. I can't remember if that was the right date but I think I'm close. I'm not at home right now to check. However, it was the latest one that was showing and I think it was def from January. Anyways after flashing CM nightly and gapps I have a couple doubles of the same apps. There are two that I spotted so far. There is two camera apps and two calendar apps. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong like flash the wrong gapps? Can I just uninstall the two Google versions of those apps and flash my kernel now? Thanks again for your help.

It doesn't matter what date the gapps package was put together. The reason you have two camera apps and two calendar apps is because the gapps package/or the ROM you flashed had the AOSP camera and AOSP calendar, then when flashing the other .zip/installing from Play Store it installs the Google variant. You can have AOSP camera and Google camera installed at the same time, i.e. the same with the calendar.
Flash your kernel, it should be fine.

You don't need to flash other kernel or modem.. it works fine on my end with latest lollipop modem and bootloader, just follow the instructions in the OP [emoji2]

Very nice, thanks @NepoRood

Using bhb's stock CM14 kernel, it's running great. I'll be adding more information to the first 3 posts as time goes on :good:

But is it using Bhb kernel 1.0?
Or you changed something and it's your 1.0 version?
ROM was running great. Been running it a couple days without hassle

Reboot in recovery
Dirty install the rom again (without any configuration done in the first boot)

Worked for me.
@NepoRood can you please add caffeine tile in next update? And maybe zzmoove gov? I know its just the first build, but this additions would be really loved. Thank you for such a good job.

It's a typo, my bad. You know that is the source code, right?
@Debuffer, personally, I have no use for all the "extra" functionality of a custom kernel. After the holidays, I'll look into providing a custom kernel along with the stock one (like bhb does with RR). Just out of curiosity, did you install the Kernel Auditor app?

Yeah, I got that part after I went to the site. I was looking for the kernel in a bid to try using it with the ROM. I have been using the ROM for the past 3 hours now and all seems smooth and stable so far. I will keep running it and see, if it stays this way I just may have a new daily driver
Great rom, it runs very well. Only issue with it, is that the torch using gestures is very inconsistent. Similar to what happened when 6.0 roms first came out. It either takes 30 seconds to activate, or never works at all.
Also, the setting to control media volume by default doesn't work. This is the same on cm14.1, so imagine it's not something you can easily change in the rom.
Users with GPS problem only make the flash of this file that will be solved.

great rom, liked it alot, clean installed it without any phone stop errors, bhb27's auditor n govtuner works perfectly aswell
only one issue i have was when i take photos im not able to share them online for some reason (example via watsapp or facebook) it always shows "sharing failed please try again" msg. dont know what happened there i tried re-installing watsapp and also a different camera app but still get the same error.
reverted back to 6.1 for now as i really need photo share as my work is depended on it, although i did notice the pictures i took on 7.1 now in the gallery were corrupt n un-viewable aswell ? was there something i did wrong? should i try flashing again?

There are 2 folders where pictures are stored: DCIM and Pictures
Using the built in file explorer (or a PC), rename each of these. I did DCIM2 and Pictures2, then use your phone to take a picture. Both folders will be recreated. Then, drag and drop everything from the #2 folder into the corresponding "New" folder.
Hassle? Just a bit, but we did just change branches on our android phones
