PC doesn't recognise drivers - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A month now ive got this phone and very impressed that ill probably use it as my primary phone, however ive tried on 2 pc's and a laptop and after downloading the necessary drivers and trying to unlock the bootoader it just wont recognise that my phone is connected, ive followed instructions previously given by another user, why wont those pc's or the laptop i tried recognise the drivers?
Even to root the phone so i can get rid of the ads would be something but you probably need to unlock bootloader before you do that, any suggestions?

Are the OPO is fuctioning or it's in hard brick? Did you try on OS8 or OS7?

I recommend you to download the official Android SDK. It rarely causes any issues unlike allot of other driver packs.

of course it is mate i only have it 3/4 weeks it's perfect except Windows xp wont recognise the drivers, funnily enough my chromebook recognises the opo when i plug it in but it's far too difficult and time consuming to try doing commands on a chromebook.

i think ill actually do that next time im in an internet cafe as these driver packs dont seem to be worth a f**k to be honest and the full sdk might work.
ill report back after i try if i get the time in the next week.

Please help a, gosh, a newb

I have a MAC. I'm using VM Fusion on with Windows XP for the virtual machine.
I want to go I9000 (sick of app limitations and ATT in general).
I cannot for the life of me get the Samsung USB drivers to work on my Windows side of the MAC. I've tried install, re-install over and over. I've tried, and have, both versions of the Samsung drivers that are out there.
I have the ODIN program and all the stuff needed to get the i9000 on my phone.
My phone goes to down load mode.
I've been at this 8 HOURS and am about to break a 32" lcd monitor!!!!
Please.... I will take any suggestions on how to get my phone to connect on Windows XP.
i'm not sure what the compatability is for emulating windows but i did have problems installing my drivers on my pc (win XP) and my solution was kies from samsung. it automatically installed the drivers for me. it can be found at samsung.com.
Sorry..... a little anxious, frustrated, and well.... you get the point.
Thanks.... I am getting KIES right now....
talking like that won't get you help any faster...
edit: yeppers, trust me, i get you.
....
Yes I know.... thx again..
Breath, drink, don't break the monitor, keep trying..... the now 9 hours will pay off!!!
lol, did it work for you?
Downloading now...
Of course the download is taking forever. Normally I can download around 200 MB in a minute or two... this 136 MB file is going at the rate of about 39 KB/sec..
Grin and bear it right? Man I hope this works!
Will update this with results.....
40k a sec...wow, i'm sorry man...that makes me want a drink now.

Just the kind of day it's been.... I no sooner type the speed of download and hit post.... sure as sh*t the thing has downloaded already.
The Kies installer will open, and the progress bar is indicating the files are extracting and then it just dead ends me....
Gotta play around with it I guess..
ever think about dual boot instead of emulating? or maybe in addition to. or can mac's do that? kies installed fine for me, sorry man, idk...
hey i was also thinking about this, how does your setup send the fact that your phone is connected to the emulated xp instead of just iOS? maybe stupid question, but i thought i'd ask

Hey that is a great idea, the booting up just the windows side... I've never done it but I think there is a native Mac app called boot camp.
As of now, it seems like the first kies file I downloaded was corrupt. I downloaded again and now it is actually installing the software.
My virtual machine sees the Android phone, and then Windows picks it up but errors it out as an unknown USB device. No matter where I point the XP device to for driver files it won't pick them up.
On the Mac side... it just shows up in Finder once mounted.
Hey OP, I had the same problem as you and I just ended up going the Bootcamp route. For whatever reason VMware Fusion with Win7 does not want to recognize the Captivate. I know its not much help and having to go with bootcamp instead of a VM does kinda suck but the bright side is that you can always open up your bootcamp partition with VMware Fusion while in OSX if you need quick access to Windows.
Kind of topic, but how do you access boot camp with VM Fusion from the Mac OS?
I only use windows for IE, as I visit websites that only work with that browser.
Anyways... sure as sh*t this morning I wake up and get the old xp laptop out, download the Samsung Capitave drivers and instantly hook my phone up.
So.... an entire day wasted on trying to connect my phone to XP virtual machine. Gotta laugh .... right?

[Q] Don't know what it could be

So today, i was doing some remote help with my laptop with microsoft(they were on my computer) and the guy was doing a few things, and he deleted some old files that he said was going to help the issue(seems to be fixed, it was an unknown program that would popup on occasions and disappear right away) before that, i synced some music on, and it all was working fine, then later on, i splilled a bit of Coke, and i LITTLE bit got into the usb port. I cleaned it off right away, but i dont know if something got damaged. Anyways, while i was on the remote thing with microsoft, i found out that my cell wasn't being recognized with my comp... it said that literally. I dont know if it was MS, or the coke, but i thought it was MS had deleted the drivers on accident, or my phone got damaged. What do you all suggest i do? do you think it was a driver issue, or a usb issue?
I have tried in different ports, and on different computers. And talking to samsung is less productive than talking to a wall, because samsung said you couldn't get them for some reason. -.-

If you spilled Coke into the USN port then all bets are off. That is one thing you should never do. Keep all refreshments away from any computer because if you spill a soft drink on it the consequences will be forever as it is almost impossible to clean out all of the sugar without completely disassembling the laptop and thoroughly cleaning everything with electrical contact cleaner and even then you may still have ongoing issues.
I would reload the drivers and try a different USB port while crossing my fingers.

Just out of curiosity have you tried plugging it into another computer? I had the same issue with my laptop and then got it to work with my desktop later on. If you are getting an error message when you plug it into the computer I don't think the phone is broken. I just think the drivers are screwed and with windows they can be a pain to fix without a total reload of windows all together. I think if the phone itself is messed up you wouldn't see any messages at all as the computer wouldn't see that a device was plugged in. I could be wrong, but I am just going off of my own experiences here.

[Q] Impressed with my new Infuse 4G but can't get USB connection to work

After plugging away for a few hours now, I am still unable to get my Windows 7 PC to recognize the Infuse 4G as a USB device. Upon plugging in the cable, I continue to get "USB device not recognized". I have installed the latest KIES package + drivers, tried a drivers-only install package from ATT, tried mini-KIES, tried all the USB ports and tried the whole thing over again on another Win7 PC. On the phone, I have tried the USB settings at Mass Storage, Media Player and Samsung EZUpdate and under Applications/Development, I have turned on and off USB debugging. The only thing I have not tried is another USB to mini cable, as I don't readily have one available (using the one that came with the phone).
The Infuse is a great smartphone, and I hope to make it a little smarter by sync'ing up to my PC. Any suggestions are appreciated. Jonathan
They may have included a charging only cable now. Is it telling you it is failing the install?
EDIT: Just read it said not recognizing. Try the Captivate Drivers. It's been a while but I think that's what I had to do.

Uninstall kies completely! There is some problem with kies in windows 7 64 bit, search within this forum for the USB driver only.
I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

Same, but i like disabled usb debugging and I think that did the trick.
I'm using Kies on 64bit windows 7 and it works fine.
You can try a different computer? Different USB port? I'm willing to bet the problem is not the phone at all.

Im on W7 64 bit running Kies with no problem, I don't think that the issue..
Problem persists... arrgh
Good tips, thank you, tried most of them, no go.
Using my cleanest, most reliable Dell, I uninstalled all of the KIES software, plus all of the Samsung drivers listed, plus the Samsung EZUpdate software. Rebooted, then installed only the drivers downloaded directly from Samsung (SGH-i997_Infuse4G_USB_Drivers_5_2_0_2.zip). Tried all the USB ports on the Dell, same issue - "USB device not recognized".
Just for fun, I then installed the new Samsung Galaxy 64bit drivers. Same issue.
As I am seeing exactly the same issue on two different PCs with no known USB port issues, I am beginning to suspect the cable that came with the phone might be the problem. Or is that too simplistic? Jonathan
The drivers are on the Samsung website. That would be the first logical place to look anyhow.
Also could be a bad cable but I think win 7 64 bit has issues with Samsung devices. Try to manually install the drivers and try a different cable.
At this point it is most likely the cable with a small chance of the phone itself being the issue. Try a different cable next, but if you have a linux live CD (Ubuntu, whatever you have) start a computer off of that, it won't require any drivers, and if it still isn't recognized that will prove you aren't having driver issues

I am currently running Windows 7 64-bit at home using the drivers you included above. I'm not having any issues connecting with my PC, so I would guess it's not drivers. The fact that it's happening with more than one computer would suggest that it's either your phone or your cable, and not the PC. I would start by shutting down your phone and pulling the battery. Let it drain for a few seconds, and then power it up with the battery back in. Then attempt a connection to your PC. It couldn't hurt to reboot your PC at the same time. Good luck!
ok so 1: sorry for reviving a semi-dead thread
2: first post so be easy on me?
but i might have a solution to the usb problem(kinda sorta) although its mainly for file management(like non os type.. unless u got a rooted phone)
but try installing "FTPDroid" from the market its a good free app, what you can do then is just get "FileZilla" (also free) on your computer.
just go to settigns of ftpdroid then add a user account ( so u can edit directorys and move/deleat files, instead of jsut transfers from computer) and sign on to the ftp server from your computer useing the account settings. and your good to go ^^.
but if u are needing the usb for say changing the os or rooting... this wont really work i dont think unless u can figureout how to do that threw other means.. then u can use the ftp to change os files(maby?)
hope i helped. atleast just a little bit.

Infuse won't connect to PC, help?

Yes, I have read other threads prior to posting this. My Samsung infuse WILL NOT connect to my PC to attempt to use GTG's unbrick to revert back to stock. I have tried the following:
1. Multiple USB cables
2. Install Kies
3. Install Kies Mini
4. Uninstall both versions of Kies
5. Install just sole Infuse drivers
6. Attempted multiple computers (2 Windows 64-bit machines, 1 Windows XP SP3)
7. Attempted to use in VMWARE
8. Performed factory reset
9. Used USBdeview to delete any association of the device with the computer
10. Select mass storage mode when prompted to connect to the PC. Also set it to automatically select this setting.
I have tried everything I can find on this form and on the internet, still no luck. My phone makes the noise that it is going to connect and does nothing. Doesn't show that the device is installing, doesn't ever show up under my computer, just sits there. When I pick mass storage on the ROM it goes back to the main screen. I am running GTG's infused ROM, attempting to take back to stock. I have tried Heimdall, I have tried GTG's back to stock methods, phone NEVER is picked up by the computer even in download mode. To say the least, I have tried this OVER AND OVER on multiple machines, within the past week, and I would like to just go out and run my infuse over with my car at this point. I do not believe I will ever be buying a Samsung device again. Can someone please help me before I go insane? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciate on attempting to get this POS to connect to the computer. I am on Windows 7 64-bit edition.
Since you are attempting to unbrick... Have you tried to do a factory reset from the ROM settings?

Apologize for not posting, I ran Odin as Administrator, even tried XP Compatibility mode on both Windows 7 64-bit boxes. I installed Ubuntu, but doesn't appear that GTG's Back to stock is compatible with Wine, so couldn't resort to that option. I didn't recall if I had tried installing Kies mini with administrative rights or XP compatibility mode so I'm trying that now. Will report back. I'm thinking I could have a bad data cable that's just used for charging. Thing is, it worked when I originally rooted the phone from Stock, so I was wondering if it had something to do with the firmware for GTG's infused and Windows 7 64-bit. But, I see plenty of people able to get Odin to work on his build, so doesn't make sense to me. I did flash back to GTG's Infused 2.2.1, seems to have fixed some of the issues I was having with 2.2.3 (random freezing of the phone, system volume freezing and crashing when opening through Settings menu), random WIFI turning on/off. That seems to be all good now. Just wanted to figure this issue out.
No luck... But, Kies Air does work. Still doesn't fix the fact that I can't connect via USB to store back to factory. But, I think that both USB cables I have may be bad for data connection. They are the ones that came with the phone, and BOTH cables attempt to just charge the phone and not attempt to mount the external storage in Windows 7 64-bit. Debating whether or not I want to order another cable, thinking about upgrading devices since I'm eligible at this time. Any recommendations on a good upgrade from the Infuse??

If you're looking for a data cable, i got 2 off Ebay for $1 each. They worked. Search for mini usb DATA cable.
I've seen them go bad midcharge. If you had it plugged in, wiggle it, push slightly in each different direction gently. sew if you can get a brief response.

Sgs2 seems to be the fav by devs
I know you've said you've tried different cables, I had the same problem and it did turn out to be a cable issue. I tried 3 different types, and I ended up having to use one that I got directly from the local AT&T corporate store.

Thanks guys, will definitely give that a shot and buy a new cable. I'm pretty sure that's gotta be what the issue is. I wouldn't think that 3 different computers are bad with two different OS's. I will probably get one here in a few days. I plan on upgrading the device here soon. I bought it out of pocket retail about six or so months ago so I didn't have to renew my contract. I'm waiting to see what they release at the end of next month's conference before upgrading. Probably give a quad core a shot to see how they are

Drivel,
While you are plugged in, try pushing the connection around a bit. See if there is any recognition. If there isn't, i think you may have a hardware issue.
If it was a hardware issue, the trick it's to get att to honor their warranty.
if you're running infused, the trick is how to get out back to stock or to brick it
The closet thing i can think of is to download download dman uckl2 rooted package via kies air or by phone. Dl the stock kernal. Flash the ROM, disable lagfix, then flash the stock kernel.
That's as close to stock as I can think off for you to take to the att store and have them check the usb hardware port

Do a search on your comp and find all kies. Remove all.
Pull usb from comp and phone.
Hard reboot of phone,reboot comp.
Reload Kies mini
Open above, file drop down, load drivers.
plug in usb to comp.
phone usb to kies.
plug in usb. Go/no go?
No go pull phone sd card. Repeat all above. Go/no go.
No go? wipe internal memory.

No go /Sledge Hammer cure.

Phone can't be found by PC

Hello! REALLY hoping I can find some help here! Tried everything! Really!
So the story is like so, I decided I wanted to root my phone and customize it a bit since I've previously owned an jailbroken iphone and really liked how I could change ANYTHING. BUT! I did not get far. My computer can not find my phone. Never connected my phone to my computer for other reasons than to charge, which still works, so never really noticed it. But yeah, charging works but other than that, nada. My phone model is the L29 version. 4gb ram etc.
Checklist:
Yes phone is unlocked.
Yes phone has usb debug on.
Yes phone is on MTP mode, yes I did enable/disable that tons of times since I heard it can help.
Yes I got the allow hisuite ADB or whatever it is called enabled.
Yes the phone does charge perfectly so there is some connection.
Yes I have installed all drivers, including hisuite. MTP packs, android studio with all extras.
Yes I have tried installing legacy hardware for multiple different MTP and android usb drivers.
What could it be?! I am going nuts by now, I don't even care that much about rooting anymore I just want the usb part to be working. (although yes I do still wanna root, will probably need more help then too).
Really thankful if anyone takes their time to help.
Best Regards, Dennis.
No one? Please.
