I had the same thing last week, starting the camera didn't work.
shutdown and reboot solved both problems (soft-reboot doesn't work though)

Weird. That seems to be the solution for me as well. I didnt even notices that my camera wasn working as i didnt even used it. Thank you!

It's a long-running issue that Google has said will be addressed by the 5.0 update.

[Q] phone shuts down after battery goes from 40-50% to 0%

Today I had my AT&T One X at around 40% charge when I went to sleep. After getting up the phone had shut itself down and when I try to turn it on using the power switch nothing happens. I charged it then it starts charging from 0%. I am on stock 4.04 rom and have rooted the phone. This is the third time in a month that this has happened. I am attaching the battery curve that I got after today's incident. Please Help! Thank you very much for any help in advance.

Sounds like bad wakelocks, install Better Battery Stats to find out what is draining your battery.

I have installed betterbatterystats and will update with results next time it happens..
I too am having this problem. Though it started happening after my phone drained and wouldn't restart after charging (boot loop). After I fixed that, it's been dropping dead.
I'm on a stock rom with ElementalX 3.0 kernel. Was v2.0 when it initially started.
Any luck finding information? I still get about the same use out of it (sometimes). I'm thinking that maybe the battery's level is getting reported incorrectly?
This is a known bug, whatever the hell is causing it. Just about everyone has had this happen at least once.

How often are you having this problem. I have had this happen about 3 times in the last three weeks or so. Since my post last week, I haven't had it happen to me yet. I now have the betterbatterystats app installed and will update with results the next time I have battery drain.

It happens quite often. Happened today, then three days before that. I really don't have much on this phone either. After the initial bootloop I did a factory reset and didn't really add much.
This happened to me once on stock rom and kernel. I think it has something to do with the network trying repeatedly to connect and draining the battery. But the phone is asleep and not updating the battery percentage. When the phone finally awakes, it instantly updates the batteryfrom whatever it was before to 0. It seems to happen to people in the early morning.
There is a pretty sizable thread on this already.

I have contacted AT&T and HTC. Neither knows whats up. Went to CM 10 though and haven't seen the issue. Although, the last 2 weeks with CR Dev I didn't see the issue either. It used to happen every night.

Thought I remembered seeing a thread but couldn't find it via search.
I wonder if it's a sense based issue if you haven't seen it with CM 10. Though I didn't have any issues while using the stock kernel. -edit just read flar2's post about using stock and seeing the issue
Most likely something is draining while the phone is asleep and the battery doesn't update. You can see in my history details that when the phone wakes it jumps. Especially the ending death jump lol
I know if I have fast boot enabled and then it off, it'll drain around 10%. It only loses around 3 or 4 if the phone is shut down. I've never left it on overnight, but then again I am an avid task-killer

[Q] Battery drain on moto g running 4.4.2

I hav been using moto g for the past 3 months. The phone worked perfectly for the 1st month. But after 1 month there is some battery drain issue.
When the phone is in standby the battery drain unexpectedly fast. i get a screen time of only abt 1.5 hours. During the night the battery come down by 25-30%(3g and wifi are both off). I have factory reset the phone but the problem still persists. I have also tried to keep the phone in safe mode when i go to sleep but the battery still drains heavily. The Battery drain in expected amount when i am using the phone. Battery saver apps doesnt seem to help the battery life. Thanx in advance.
Since you are on 4.4.2 could it be the mm-qcamera-daemon problem? The process is well known for causing battery drain if there are certain apps installed (like Snapchat or Skype).
Also known is higher battery drain after using GPS.
Maybe this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654180 gives you some ideas how to isolate your problem

I have installed Skype. Maybe it is the cause. Thanks a lot for linking me to d right thread.
You're welcome!
So uninstalling Skype (or just updating? Not shure if there has been a recent fix) maybe help. Or wainting for 4.4.3 which shouldnt take too long

I have uninstalled Skype. but the battery still came down by abt 10% last night. so there may be another problem. 4.4.3 hopefully comes with a solution to the skype problem.

I have the feeling my answers seem a bit chaotic... Sorry for that.
Well at least now you know that Skype not seems to be the issue. I should have stated already that you could try an app like "Gsam Battery Monitor" or "Better Battery Stats" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809). They give you a detailed list of processes that consume battery.
Unfortunately I can not tell if and how good the work without root
I have tried gsam battery app. It jus showed normal stats nothing out of the ordinary... I have installed greenify n added a bunch of apps to it which I thought drains more battery. but Battery life has not increased.
I looked at d link from ur earlier reply. Many users face d same problem but for some of them rebooting solves the problem.
Don't think any installed apps r causing it.
I have switched over to ART runtime because I read that it has better battery efficiency. I'll use it for a couple of days n chk.
The battery drain graph when screen is off seems a bit steep than normal. Maybe it's a bug in 4.4.2.

Huge battery drain problem after Lilipop update

After updating my Z3's firmware to Lilipop, I'm facing huge battery drain. In kitkat, when returning home battery remained 55%. After update, I found it 30-35%. Note that my usage pattern didn't change.
How can I get rid of it?

There is another thread for this issue.
Does there have the solution? Please share the link.
Many users reported that a factory reset fixed their problems. Only downside is that you have to reconfigure your phone
done factory reset manytimes but the drain remains..
seems like radio being active by apps is the problem
i'd love to post screenshots but since i am new here you know i am unable
Have you tried using BBS (better battery stats) to isolate the drain? And also try setting "keep wifi in sleepmode" to never or only when connected. Have heard of that working wonders for some.
And the screenshot thing can be overcome by uploading it to a different site and posting only the links
Preper yourself for NO notifications, if you put WI-FI to sleep.
I have wifi asleep and still get notifications. Maybe a little less frequent, but that's because stamina mode is working better (in my opinion) and only checks once in a while for new notifications

That' s the Queue background data option that is doing that.
So there ARE notifications Vs what you said that there would be none. I rest my case here
MOD EDIT @gregbradley
@ OP, I also ticked the option that other apps may not use wifi for location even when wifi is off. I believe that may also cost you some juice

It's funny how my phone ran normal for the first week now the phone is being drained by Facebook and feedly, I have made no changes in any settings and its happening now. Haven't looked into the problem yet but don't even know is it third party issues lol.
One thing I found out is that the battery tend to drain at a lesser rate if you leave the phone charged for an extra 20 mins or more after hitting 100%. Just a speculation

So, blame facebook for the battery drain.
There is an option where you can make the phone play a sound when is fully charged.
.
Just clean flash stock ftf.. Ota just sucks. I did it and my battery returned to prime life again.
.
I doubt that the reason we have the same problem is the same, but since I know how to post a screen cap, here's mine:

battery drainer

Any one run into this wakelock? It's driving me crazy. Google didn't give me much to work with.
That showed up on GSam battery app and I disabled it through there.

Did you notice an improvement in battery after you disabled it? Ever since the Oreo update I'm having to charge during the day where it wasn't an issue before.
We shall see, I just disabled it when I sent the reply. My battery life has not been nearly as good either.
That is actually the dreaded "Carrier IQ" crap that att always try to hide on your device. It definitely helps to disable it for both privacy and battery.

I ended up removing all of my Google accounts, restarting and then added them all back. That seemed to do the trick. For some reason, that seemed to fix the android system from using so much battery. What's frustrating is that I had factory reset before but that did not seem to fix anything.

S7 Battery Drain? Or Potentially Another Problem?

So my sister upgraded her phone and gave me her old Galaxy S7. It has a problem, when left idle, it will drain its battery to 0%, essentially shutting itself down. But I tried watching a 50 minute video on it and it lost 20%. So theoretically, it should have about 4 hrs of video playback capacity.
So my question is, will replacing the battery solve this problem? Or could the problem be something else? Cause I really don't wanna go out and buy a new battery for this, without being certain first.
Thank you all for your responses!

If the phone is working normally, the possible reason is battery or a bug in a management service of the battery. Make e full backup, do a factory reset and see again.

My sister had this problem before she handed this phone to me. I reformatted it as soon as I got it.
So do you think that replacing the battery will really solve this?

Turn Airplane mode on the phone and leave to for a couple of hours. Then check it again.
