[Q] Lose Playlists After Remounting SD Card Every Time! - General Questions and Answers

Searched XDA but found nothing.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 from Sprint. In about a month, my plan is to replace it with the Sprint LG G3, and I'm thinking this problem will follow me there.
I have one perfectly functioning external 32GB SD card and a few Galaxy S3's. If I'm flashing something to my secondary phone to test it, I'll unmount and pull the SD card to use it. Every time I do that and re-mount it to my primary device, my playlists revert to what looks to be about 12 songs stored on my internal device. I have to go through and set up all my play lists again, and a few of them are big. Problem!
I'm currently using CM11 use Apollo music player, but I've used Fusion and others. The problem with my play lists disappearing happens on all the roms and players I've tried. I have no other issues related to my SD card, so I'm thinking this is not a card problem, but rather a file storage problem. But, I could definitely be wrong!
My music file is so big, I can't store them internally. Is there a fix for storing my playlists somewhere or in the settings so this doesn't happen every time?
Thanks!

[Q] Has ics damaged my sd card

Lately i have been playing with ics roms including ics RUU installs and with all of them i have been having problems relating to reading from the sd card (gallery issues, stored music issues etc.) none of which where present before installing ics.
Today, after returning to an earliar RUU to revolutionary unlock the hboot and root, i formatted my sd with sd formatter and wiped and formatted everything on my phone. Then i ran the 2.08... RUU and set up my phone from scratch like i always do. I put my usual music, ringtones etc on my sd card and reinstalled all of my apps.
After doing my usual clean install, the first thing i noticed was that the personalised ringtones that i set began changing randomly and i also noticed that the tunes displayed on my music widget were changing randomly.
It appears that my sd card is misbehaving but i wondered if anybody else had this issue after returning to another firmware after using ics?
If you can put the SD into a PC and it still reads, then it's not damaged. A busted SD card wouldnt make songs start to play or anything like that. That would be the rom. Now, if you sent to play a song and it refused to play - that could be another story.

Well he's been having problems reading "gallery and stored music".

[Q] Feel stupid - SD card problem.

I've been searching all over for a similar issue but no luck.
I accidentally pulled the SD card w/ out unmounting it. From everything I've read the SD card is usually messed up and needs to be formatted. In this case everything on it is okay except that I can't play my music in through music player unless I go through root explorer and select a song. What is wrong here?

Did you try remounting it through Settings/Storage?
If it's in the Xoom, unmount and remount. Or you could backup the sdcards contents, reformat it in a android phone, then reinstall your content and try it again.
I did try the unmount/mount thing but unfortunately it didn't fix it. I was afraid I might have to backup and format the card, 26gb is going to take a while. It's just odd how its only my music, it will play through Root Explorer using the music player but won't play directly through the music player itself.
I'll give it a go later and report back.
Have you tried another music player? or uninstalling updates and reinstalling them?
Yep, winamp plays just fine. The problem is only with the Google Play Music player. It just says "Couldn't play the track you requested" It won't allow me to delete it to reinstall it or remove updates. I think I'll try flashing a new rom before formatting the SD. The latter is very undesirable.
Okay, all of a sudden the mp3s don't appear as mp3s anymore. They just read as 'file' they didn't say that earlier today. Strange that they play just fine in other scenarios .Now amost everything looks ruined.
Thanks guys. Format time.
Btw, files look ruined according to Windows Explorer. Root Explorer says everything is normal.
Pardon my rambling on, but everything on the card works on my Incredible - even the Google Music player plays everything just fine.
I'm absolutely perplexed
Have you tried clearing out the data for Google Play Music? Or the other affected apps?
Yep tried that but it didn't fix it.
Now I can't even get the SD to mount in neither the phone or Xoom. The eff is going on here?!
Edit:
Well I got the Xoom to see it but it says blank SD and offers to format it. I just worry that if I format the SD card it formats the internal card. I should be safe?
Have you tried looking at the card on a computer without the xoom? (Sdcard reader etc)
If that doesn't work, if you are worried about formatting the Xoom's internal storage, you could always just pop the sdcard into a computer, and then format it to fat32. Then you can just put the sdcard back into the xoom and you should be good to go. Just note, that would erase all of your data on the card.

Removed SD card before unmounting

Okay, so it was a emergency and I had to remove my Micro SD card, so I couldn't unmount it.. Later that I day I was about to play some music when I realized all my songs where gone! .... The same with my pictures that were on the card! (ALL MY NYC PICS FROM MY TRIP I JUST WENT ON ARE ON THERE).... Did removing it from the phone actually make the date unusable or was it when I accidentally hit format SD card but, as soon as I hit it, I hit stop!!! This is crazy, for this had all my NYC pictures on it :/
On a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, that is not reading sim cards, but the sim works in other phones. Could it be that I left it in Airplane mode so long? I am not rooted, or anything like that. Any fixes?

Does the PC reconize the card? If it does but doesnt open you might have chance recovering your data from it, if it shows up as empty your chances are pretty weak (tho with some software you still may be able to get your files back, i have even got my files back after formatting my hdd and renstalling OS). if it shows up as empty, do not copy new content on there
If you go to Transcend website they have a recovery program called recover rx. You can recover lost files with this. I had also once faced a similar problem where all my photos got wiped out by trying to download using a cheap sd card adapter. I used this software to recover all my photos.
try to explore the sd from the pc,mabye it's simple a bug
I have LG P990, which install ICS4.0.4, when i insert new SD card, i dont have mount or format option for new SD card, is that normal, i did download bind application for Music and Movie application to find my song and video. i need bind it every time, what can i do to mount new extra SD card to internal SD card?
This software is really simple free and I have found really good. Recuva.
Install on a PC and connect card select drive on recuva, and start it.
Very simple
If the problem is just deleted data or formatted drive

[Q] Memory issues

Hi,
I have a question and I am hoping you can help me solve it. I purchased a Galaxy S Blaze 4G for my wife. I downloaded the "hide it pro" app from the google store for this phone. Before all this, I have performed a factory reset. I have an 8GB microSD card installed in the device as well. I have never had a problem with installing the app, transferring of personal files which are mostly videos, until this phone. I used to have a Mytouch and had no problems, and I now have an HTC ONE which I definitely dont have any problems. So I'm thinking it may be the phone. (Galaxy S Blaze) With multiple attempts, I have downloaded the app, have gone into the settings and tried even to move the app to the SD card, after I tried transferring less than 2GB worth of files to the app which was about 20/24 files, I would try to go back into the gallery and the phone indicates that "not enough memory, please delete some items." Again, I have never had a problem with this. Can you please help? It seems as though it is saving it to the actual device, instead of the memory card where it originally was to be transfered from to the actual App. Before I started doing anything, the "System storage was 83.25/1.12GB, USB storage was 0.0/1.40GB, and SD card showed 222MB/7.39GB. After installing the app and trying to transfer the files, i went back into the Task Manager/Storage and it now showed that the USB storage was maxed out at 1.40/1.40GB and SD card showed 222/7.39GB still. What do I have to do? The app also worked fine on her old Galaxy SII before she broke the screen. Thats the only reason I purchased this for her. She loves Samsung products, just couldnt afford the S4. Can you gimme some hints on how to resolve?
Sincerely,

Which os are you running? If you are on stock ICS your SD card is located at /sdcard/external_sd. If you are on cm10 or 10.2 the 8gb card is located at /external_sd or /storage/sdcard1

Smart Switch issue

My wife's gold S7 arrived last night, and she is transitioning from an 128GB S6. I installed a 64GB microSD card before turning it on.
I decided to use the phone-to-phone Smart Switch application. The problem is that it transferred all 30GB of photos/music/videos into the S7's internal storage. I had to manually move all the media files to the SD card so the migration could complete.
I expect to get my black S7 on Monday (also from an 128GB S6). Is there some kind of setting in Smart Switch that defaults moving media files directly to the SD card? Thanks in advance.
^ Yes, when the devices connect, it asks you exactly what you want to transfer. I chose only applications. Worked well, saved me from having to hunt them down one by one in the Play Store. Still can't believe Google doesn't have a proper cloud based backup for this (the one in Google Settings didn't work on the S7, shocker...).
