Unable to boot up until I plug my G2x into my notebook for 2 seconds. Normal?

Hey all,
I've got a rather funky bug going on here. I'm told it's not uncommon for G2x phones to suddenly turn off and require users to take out the battery for a reboot. But I recently ran into a super weird issue.
Tried to use my phone, encountered a black screen. Tried to turn it on, even took out battery and placed it back in with no luck. Went home and plugged it into adapter, got a screen showing the battery charging but that's it. With the battery out, pressed the boot screen, got the white LG logo before it turned off again.
Problem was solved as soon as I plugged the phone into my notebook instead. Booted up normally with no problems!
Is this a common occurrence?
If this problem persists, I might have to sell this phone (bought it on fleabay) and get a different one. Dang LG really rushed the G2x in spite of flaws!
If that happens, I'll be needing recommendations for a new phone.

I don't think this issue is common, this is my 1st time reading about it, and it certainly hasn't happened to me! good luck, if you're changing phones I'd suggest the galaxy Nexus

GSN is too expensive for me. Was hoping for under $300.
Was contemplating the G4SG, but I hear that while having fewer bugs, it's also a lot slower overall. I can't live without my cheap dualcore!

That's an odd one, a couple of things I will say:
I've noticed that for me if I have it plugged in and powered down then try to boot it, the thing won't start. I have to unplug it, boot it and plug it back in once it's started up initially.
Also, if you're considering loading a custom ROM, do it and if the thing is still acting like that, throw it at the nearest T-mobile store, and be sure to hit someone with it.

It was rooted with Tsugi. I haven't had any other issues yet. Rooted/flashed it yesterday, this is the 2nd day in.
And I don't have a receipt for the phone. Bought it used from another person. :/

Try a different ROM, didn't you buy it off E-bay? If nothing else, either e-bay or paypal (assuming you used it) should cover you if you were given a lemon.

I'll see what happens. If the phone turns out to be a lemon, I'm going to request a refund and go the paypal dispute route if I must. I'd rather not have to.
It's a real shame too. This is a really nice phone.

Flash phoenixblood 1.7 rom and use faux123 stock cm or DS. 0.4.8 kernel, I can almost 100% guarantee you that will solve your problem.

something similar happens to me never tried the rom your on but what i did to fix was: Settings>Applications>Development> check stay awake it helped me out maybe it will help you. let me know how everything goes.

I actually just sold my g2x and went back to my GS4G and don't regret it. Running octane 3.0 the speed difference is so negligible you won't even notice it unless your comparing them side by side.

If it happens again then sell it, the only thing that makes this phone unable to compete with the Galaxy Nexus is that it doesn't have ICS yet, and the screen is smaller and in lower resolution. But I believe if you get a good one then performance is better than the Gnex seeing as the highest clock speed I've seen achievable and stable for the Gnex is 1.35, and the GPU is slow and outdated. The camera on the G2x is also higher resolution, but lacks the lagless shutter.
This phone may be cheap, but it is very powerful. The only reason it had so many complaints is poor quality control, and very bad software developers. Hardware is crazy though.
If you were to sell your G2x, I'd take the Galaxy S II HD version over the Gnex.

[Q] Nexus 5 VERY slow/laggy

Hi,
Since today, my nexus became super slow. I have no idea why.
I already flashed a brand new Factory image, but even after that (+ wiping cache etc.) it's still slow as hell.
Even the boot animation is running @ 1 fps.
It's pretty warm to the touch, but not super hot, like to the point it would throttle like hell.
I'm currently running the Android M Dev preview.
If you know what this could be, please let me know.

There weren't any apps installed, and there still aren't on the Android M preview so that's not the problem.
Something very strange I noticed was that if I put some pressure on the bottom of the phone, it runs perfectly smooth...

You weren't using a Galaxy s6 recently were you? I was using one the other day and then I picked up my nexus 5 and had all same the problems you just described.

I have no idea why it does work when I press the bottom of it.. Could it be a loose connection, maybe..?

Aaaaaaaaaaand I broke the glass, AGAIN.
Broke the nexus' glass 3 times already in a year

It's probably a hardware problem. If you break the glass three times a year, than the rest of the hardware probably is damaged too. Using a case may help.

Well I guess it's a hardware problem then I'm not super carefull with my phone indeed, and I don't like cases. XD (Altough I have used one for 1/4rd of a year)

Apple won a lawsuit against Samsung, thus many of their older devices are now going to be banned from being sold in the US. This includes the Skyrocket.

Kind of pointless for a phone that hasn't been discontinued for years. That phone come out in late 2011 and was a piece of **** anyways.

Some people still use it, even if it's just used as a music player. Saying that it was a piece of excrement is merely your opinion. It was about a year ago that I switched from my old Skyrocket to the Moto G 2014 I'm using now, but the switch was a personal choice. It still worked quite well.

It isn't really opinion. It was so slow that I missed like 75% of calls because it took so long to register the swipe to answer. I would launch even as simple app like the calculator and count to 3 before it even started to show on the screen. Even a factory reset didn't make any difference. The battery life was terrible too. An 1.5 hours screen on time with 8 hours off the charger and the battery was dead and even buying a new battery didn't help. I also had to replace the back cover 3 times because of how easily it wore out.
I'm 32 years old and have made a LOT of purchases in my life. Buying the Skyrocket was literally the worst purchasing decision I ever made. When I replaced it(after .5 years of ok use and 1.5 years of hell) with my Nexus 5 I actually smashed the phone with a hammer.

mines going onto 4yrs of use, still my dd, everything works, boots up fast to cm10.2, every app works, quick and responsive, original battery, dropped it numerous times and nothing broke, best phone ive ever had.
i read ur other post and maybe you just got a lemon as there are still many users using this phone considering its 4yrs old, not too many phones last that long w/out some kind of failure

Maybe with a custom ROM it might be a little better. With the stock Samsung ROM it was awful even after factory reset. As far as hardware goes the build quality was still terrible. At the end I almost couldn't charge it any more since the USB port got so damn loose. If I picked up the phone while it was plugged in the USB cable literally fell out of the port. And the back cover, what a joke.

Still going strong here! All original parts and rockin marshmallow...who would've thought this phone would make it this far. Glad you were able to find a phone that you like and are now able to move on. Later

I just fired mine up after being in a drawer for a few months. Still works great.
Pretty snappy for a phone that is nearly 5 years old.

My rocket is still blasting to the sky! On it 10-16 hours daily! Text, email, calls, pictures and games. I had to fix the power button once.
This phone is a rock!

Are you sure you aren't thinking about the original Galaxy S2? The Skyrocket got a CPU upgrade along with LTE support, and it definitely wasn't a PoS. My wife and I finally upgraded when the batteries stopped holding much of a charge, but I keep them around and they are still reasonable devices. We certainly never had a problem with not being able to answer a call, or apps taking too long to load.
I have one on Sultan's old KK ROM and the other I'm using as a test-bed for Candy6. I will admit that LP and MM have been poky on these old phones, but hell, they are 5 years old at this point. That's an awfully good run for any device.

Nope, I'm thinking of the Skyrocket. I had one. I got it in December of 2011. It was AT&T's first LTE phone. Maybe you had better luck if you had a custom ROM but the stock Samsung software was awful. Even after a factor reset. Worst purchase of any kind I have made......EVER.

Well that was your problem right there. TouchWhiz was particularly awful during those days. It's still not great, but it was absurdly bloated in Android 4 (ICS, JB). If you could revert to Gingerbread, it was actually a decent device with stock, but then you would be running Gingerbread...
CyanogenMod actually ran pretty well, though, and fixed most of the issues Samsung introduced.

It's been quite a few years since I retired my Rocket, but I remember it fondly. Today, I'm using a Pixel 2 XL and I love it.

Still using a Skyrocket, just as an mp3 player though. It's running CM 13.0, and its not that bad.
Considering the phone is over 10 years old, It's pretty amazing modern apps still work on it. I would love to push it with an Android 10 ROM, but sadly I've only seen Android 7 being the highest version supported by the community. I think this phone just got lost to time unlike the regular S2.

I'm confused and very hesitant about upgrading , I have a note 4 and like I said I'm very hesitant and reluctant to upgrade because I don't want to be a slave to a charger.....this is the number one reasons I hate Iphones besides not being able to expand the memory you can't switch out the battery, and you become as I stated a slave to a charger. Also I want to know if you are rooted & running the latest software does it make a difference what device you have? I know a friend of mine who has an s6 and I know one who has a note 5&6 their constantly charging it because the battery is constantly dying. can anyone tell me why I should upgrade to a note 5 if I cant expand the memory?
Can anyone tell me weather I'm doing the right thing, Or can anyone tell me anything to rest aside my fears concerning upgrading. ......thanks

Best phone I've ever owned. Have a 64gb model. I have great battery life, of course I am rooted with my custom ROM.

How did you root it w/o being able to take off the back or taking out the battery especially if it overheats ?
A friend of mine just got a brand new note 5 & a s7 & she's complaining the battery is over heating & dying quick.

Well, I was trying to help. Perhaps a better choice would be a Samsung Jitterbug.

The Note5 is an amazing phone. I wish there weren't as many variants around the world, so that the development was consolidated, though...
Anyway! You don't need to take out the battery to root. You cannot access the battery with this phone. If it overheats, and I don't think mine ever has, it will just shut off (theoretically), or you can hold down power, home, and down volume buttons to reboot it.
If you wait a few weeks, the market will be flooded with used Note5's, so you might be able to pick one up for cheap.

Just wait until the Note 8

Screen flash and Android Q

Has anyone had the screen flash and updated to dp2 and then it was gone? I'm on the April update and the phone just went nuts. Had to turn it off let it flash for like 10 min then it went away for now. Oops it just came back. Unusable
edit: After a night's rest it seems back to normal. What happened was I was minding my own business, reading some forums, news, etc. before bed. Swiped left and I saw a flash. Hmm.. interesting, right? Then all of a sudden the bottom of the screen started flashing and then the whole phone. And I mean multiple flashes / second and very bright. I even saw the light when I closed my eyes later it was that bright and steady. So I turned off AOD, no help. Rebooted, no help. Turned the phone off for a few minutes and it came right back on restart. Put the phone on my night table face down and watched the light show for a while illuminating the room from out the sides of the phone. Then it stopped. Woke up and it seems to be gone at least for a while. I'll call G for a replacement this morning but seriously! This device is simply flawed. Obviously April update did nothing corrective for this phone. I wonder what happened with the displays on these phones since the XL doesn't have this issue. I might just see if they'll comp me an XL upgrade even though it's really too large for my tastes. Anyway, that's my story for the day.
I'm curious, as asked above, if anyone with a similar situation has joined Q beta and the issue is resolved. It's hard to determine I get that due to the intermittent nature of the flaw but I would install DP2 if it indeed fixed it. TIA

I installed Q and it did nothing. Still went buggy so I returned the device. Bought a new one which has been ok for about 4 days so far. I'm not holding out much hope since many have experienced the flashing a few days after the return window closes, I think it's 15 days. The only solution so far is to either get an XL with a different display or an iPhone XS for $1000. Google is not acknowledging the design flaw as of yet.

I used to get it regularly (a few x a week) on Pie but havent gotten it since the first Q Beta.

Just ordered this phone on a new contract, wondering if i've made a big mistake. This screen flashing saga seems quite widespread ?

It is widespread but not guaranteed to flash. My wife has one bought in November and not once did it flash. I'm on my 4th new one now. The problem now is that it doesn't happen right away so you're kind of behind the 8 ball. When it does happen it's usually after about 3 weeks at which point there is nothing you can do about it other than get a refurb replacement that someone else has sent back due to flashing. I really don't know what I would do if I had to pay full price. Just curious, what did you pay on a new contract? If this one starts flashing after my return window I'm trading it in or getting a refurb and selling it unopened. If I can get $500 I'd splurge for the extra 5 and get an XS. The 3XL is just too big for me as is the XR. I want something 5.8 or smaller. I mean it's a great device if it just didn't flash. The fact that it flashes in safe mode and through the entire reboot pretty much says this is not a software bug but hardware. Read it and weep... https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/119210591

£20 upfront cost for the phone then £26 a month on a 2 year contract. After reading multiple stories regarding the flashing issue, seems the majority of users are having problems after AOD is turned on. That link leads to depressing reading ?

Pretty much the current US prices, not bad. Yes, AOD caused it initially but as I said, my wife has had it on since day one and never a flash. Turning off AOD or perhaps never turning it on might help but that is really not the issue. Why can't you turn it on without a blinding flash searing your eyeballs? I like having it on, flip the phone over to disable it and not much extra battery use. I wish you luck on yours. As I said the phone is great, quick, good size, decent battery life and great camera. The google issue tracker is indeed depressing to read but those are the facts on the ground. I think at some point they will have to address the issue and perhaps we will get a great trade in for the Pixel 4. We shall see.

The pixel 3 xl is now on sale. Might be time to pull the trigger on it if you can. No flashing on that device. 200 off retail.

Pixel xl is too big for my liking, but thanks for the thought. Mine should be with me tomorrow, so i'll turn AOD on and see if it causes any issues, if does, it's going straight back and the contract cancelled, i have 30 days to do this. Or.........save causing me any headaches, send it straight back, cancel the contract and go for something else.... Galaxy S10e ??

I have Google Fi on one of my lines and they have a 1/2 price sale today only on all Pixel 3s. So I went over to Best Buy to check out the size of the 3XL and it's not horrible. A little too big for my preference but it doesn't flash and I won't have to return it. So I'm on the fence right about now. The price for the 3XL 64GB is $449 if you have Fi. That is a ridiculous price but alas, they're out of stock across the board so I'm back to hoping this doesn't start flashing. 30 day return window is amazing. I think you'll know by then.

Thanks. You talked me out of the xl lol. I got a return window of 4 weeks due to the problems I've been having. If it starts on day 29 I'm going to freak..

The screen flash issue was fixed in latest monthly security update (android P) so the change will probably be merged right now in android Q.

Yeah i read that the latest security update should have fixed the flashing problem, but still plenty of users reporting issues after the patch.

The screen flash issue was not fixed in the April update as noted above. Perhaps for some with minor display disturbances it was but for a large part of those with hardware defective devices it was not.

Nah it's ok. You just talked me off the ledge because seeing an XL for $449 was tempting. Then my wife asked, are you going to be happy with that large device? That was it. I removed it from my cart and they sold out shortly afterwards. Day 5 and no flashing yet.

Well guys, my Pixel 3 arrived this morning, and 5 updates later aswell as phone restarts, i was able to actually spend a bit of time navigating different features and finish setting it up. I decided to set it up from new instead of data transferring from my Sony. All good so far. Anybody got any advice on Pixel Pulse, apparently this replicates led notifications ?

Yeah, the XL is quite large. I like the size of blueline, fits in the hand comfortably. It is strange how this screen flash issue is going. Given the number of people reporting it vs the number of devices out there is seems like it might have been a bad batch of devices somewhere. I wonder what else could be causing it other than some devices with faulty hardware. Wonder if it would help if people with the issue started posting their serial number.
@decker39 I used to work at a Staffordshire University collaborative program here in China. Ten years working with that program.

This seems to be the later batch. My wife has and I had a Verizon original bought in November. I never had a flash and neither does she. I traded mine in because I couldn't use the esim on vzw. The Google new ones flashed. Let's see with the one I have now. I think it might flash but I'm trying to think positive. What would the serial number show?
