Just could not resist... - Nexus Player General

As most of us were screwed with the Google Nexus 6, I really see this as my consolation prize as probably until next month I will not be able to order my Nexus 6 from AT&T.

Yep.
I ordered two nexus players, two controllers, the nexus 9 plus the keyboard for the nexus 9.
Tablet (replaces a launch day Motorola Xoom running ice cream sandwich) and folio should be in my grubby paws on the 4th, so this will be a welcomed distraction whilst I wait to order a nexus 6.
Also I just ordered the just launched linksys ea9200 tri band router as a bonus...

Actually I am using the Playstation 3 as Set-tp box with Amazon and Netflix for the living room and will be substituted with PS4 (when the correct time comes).
Actually the Nexus Player will be at my living room, hoping that takes the PS3 Dualshock 3.

Worst Tablet launch? Xoom or Playbook or Touchpad

Each one of these tablets launch and had major issues right out of the gate.
The Xoom had major features included but NOT WORKING (sd card and LTE) and a very high price tag $800. What where they smoking!!
The Playbook had core BB components missing and had to be use with a BB phone to get full use from. So was it a work tablet or movie player, FOR A BB!!
The Touchpad launched to so-so reviews, has had several big price drops within weeks of it launch. Now rumors of Bestbuy asking HP to buy back overstock units to the tune of nealy 250,000, only 25000 have been sold. OUCH!!
Which one of these companies really missed the mark and may have lost the market they where aiming for?

BB because it was during a particularly bad time in their company's history, and sealed their coffin. The Xoom is a high seller IN ITS CATEGORY (ie Android tablet), and at least HP wasn't on its death knell when it released the TP.
Looks like the Touchpad with today's announcement
I really love webos and i think htc schould buy it!!

Xoom
Now depends on you but I think that would be my choice.

[Q] Does it too late if I buy Nexus 5 in this month ???

I see LG G3 is coming
Soon Nexus 6 is after G3 ?
(I skipped Nexus 4)
Nexus 6 will be Qtr 4, November probably. We cannot make teh decision for you. N5 is a great phone though.
If you look at it that way by the time q4 hits you might as well wait for q1 and so on..
Yeah, as @mistahseller said. New phones are constantly coming out so if you want the N5 you should just get it. You can also make the argument about the One Plus One since it's apparently a better value (without getting into all the CM details). Personally I've been getting phones when they first get released just because I am one of those people that likes having "new" devices. But at the same time I don't buy every new device that comes out.
Also, there's the rumors of android silver. So who knows what's going to happen. There might be a N6, there might not. Just like the Nexus 10 tablet, they still haven't refreshed the original.
Get it now if you really want it, Then upgrades are always possible later...
google play doesn't regularly discount phones/devices (as much/frequently as a retailer like Best Buy)
That saying, the most recent price drops:
Last time, Nexus 4 dropped by $100 in august 2013
7 days ago, the GPE Xperia Z Ultra dropped $230 to $450.
Hence, Nexus 5 will typically be $350/$400 for 16GB/32GB..... will other phones be cheaper (LG G2, HTC One 2013)?
do you want those phones?

Is the Nvidia Shield still worth it ?

There have been numerous leaks about the shield 2. Should I wait for the shield 2 or just get the current one? I'm a big emulator fan, snes, n64, gba nes, etc... I would like to hear everyone's input.
I don't know what your money issue is, but I have no problem paying for both... if you don't have the funds or choose not to spend the funds, I'd probably wait for the Shield 2.
Money isn't really an issue. I just don't want to buy the shield this month, then next month the 2 comes out.

Doubt it come out anytime soon, I'd give it till Q4 2014 - Q2 2015
I don't even think the Shield 2 still comes out this year.
So the current Shield is defenitely worth it, especially now when Half Life 2 and Portal came out o.o
Considering rumors/specs are already swirling on Shield 2, and with the recent price drops on Shield, I'll bet Shield 2 will be out by late 2014.
I had same concern, really wanted to wait for Shield 2 (as I've not been impressed with Shield specs), but I *really* wanted to be able to stream PC games (esp w/ Wolfenstein out now, and Watch Dogs out next week), so I went ahead and splurged on Shield 1. I've kept the box & packaging though, so if Shield 2 suddenly surprises us in the next 30 days, I can return to Amazon for refund. If past the 30 day marker, I can always sell the unit used in it's original packaging via Amazon.
Now I've just got to figure out what to do with my gen1 Vita. It was already languishing prior to Shield, and now that I can play PC games on a handheld, Vita seems completely redundant (well, except for periods of time where I don't have net connectivity, but then I'd likely be reading/working or end up playing Candy Crush Saga, lol)

Nexus 5 discount once Nexus 6 close?

The Nexus 4 dropped $100 new from Play store in late August 2013, 10 months after the late October 2012 formal announcement.
The Nexus 5 announced late October 2013... so it's price drop is....?
If Nexus 6 is announced 5 months from now then Nexus 5 drops to $299 for 32GB model in late August?

In the playstore they dropped the price of the HTC one(last years model) and the Sony ultra z.

Reminds me of the Nexus 10 replacement, never happened on the anniversary, nor 6 months after that...
I would say though the Nexus 5 is due a price drop, it began happening with the Nexus 10, new ones comining up at about 60%-70% of the price on Play store. I've not seen that sort of price drop for Nexus 5.
Nexus line supposedly being replaced with the "silver" program. Search for it on Androidcentral.

Maybe
It may drop the price but evleaks said that there is no nexus 6, it's a rumor but we can't know about what is going to happen
If there will be a nexus 6 now we will have to go to carriers and beg them to give us a two year contract unless its T-Mobile then same ol same ol so we can get a stock android device

Tiny discount but given the uncertainty about the follow-on, I bought one.
Used "mint" ones sell for about $340, which is oddly a high % of new given they're in stock.

I always buy with a view to selling. Fewer Reds bought as its newer so ~ 1 yea from now my "mint" N5 will have fewer sellers to compete with.
My N5 $385 new 32gb goes with my N7 2013 32gb (refurbished $170) and my N10 32gb (refurbished $278).
What also made me pull the trigger is I spent a lot of time yesterday having to work stood up and moving on my N4 and just don't want a bigger than that form factor in my hand but do need fast cpu and memory, just a little taller than my N4 is all I need. These other high-spec are losing the plot on hand size. If I want a bigger screen I just bluetooth tether my N7 and use it two-handed.

nexus 5 in 2015

hi
is the nexus 5 still a good phone in 2015? wish would you get the nexus 5? or nexus 5x?
there a lot of good deals on swppa right now for around $150 so i was wanting to no if the nexus 5 is still good for 2015? this would be uesd has my back up phone
Why not, it was good then, and is good now, at that price for a backup phone, sure. There are a lot of people that would still buy it as a daily driver too.
Just ordered a 5 yesterday for $200 new. The 5X is past my size threshold.
I wouldn't get it as a daily driver now, but its a decent backup phone for sure.

Not everyone can pay the price of a new flagship device, but purchasing a used Nexus 5 for the price of a new mid-level device (e.g any non flagship Samsung) I'm using as my daily driver and I'm totally satisfied.
The N5 can still be used a daily driver so no problem for a backup phone.
If you stay on stock roms, you should note that Marshmallow is probably the last official update for hammerhead.
Use a N5 every day and my wife, a N4, every day too.
very good phones for the price.
(with stock rom)
I use it daily with now CM13Caf and im pretty satisfied with it..So why not =)
Owned 2 new Nexus 5 since new (2 years old) and still in near new/mint conditions with screen protector & bumper guard, updated to MM 6.0.1 and on Chroma's latest build - loved the camera and in daily use, most importantly, for voice calling & browsing, running Apps - it's a pure Nexus & continued to be supported, got the extra LTE band 3 & 8 unlocked for use traveling abroad, with an external USB power bank so never out of juice when unable to quickly charge on the go. I don't chase newer flapship smartphones from other makers just to show hardware spec's - only feature that I wish LG/Google have is the integrated WiFi calling (like that on my "backup" jailbroken iphone 5S on iOS 9.0.2)
Exposed w. XHangouts allowing customized incoming voice call ringtone on the N5, instead of default GV ringtone - as I use my GV number over my cellular MTN (T-Mobile), except for the "inner" circle of families & close friends - easier to not miss calls abroad with WiFi calling & slower but free roaming data.
Been looking at the newest Nexus 5X but I am not in a hurry to upgrade even when they're running the Black Friday online sales - figured that the Nexus 5 still have at least another year of solid use ahead, before I switch out to something else & I will probably keep it as a backup (unless I change my mind & sell it sooner & use the funds to trade-up to offset the upgrade cost)
For OP & others, I see some good, near mint N5 going for as low as $150 on eBay or Swappa - some of the brand new in-box devices by other makers are still "waiting" for their factory MM rom to roll out. Meanwhile, there are still plenty of ROM development with the Nexus 5 - and, absolutely no bloatware by the carriers.
Still good for even 2016. Got one new for $190 on eBay and I use it as my main phone. Would love to see a nexus just like the 5 with upgraded specs and better build. I've used this one for about 2 weeks and I just kept wondering why I hadn't seen it earlier lol
