I Can't Recover my delete photos (Note 3) - General Questions and Answers

I spent like 10 hours using cygwin and then mounted it as a vhd witht vhdtools. I then used recuva, hoping it'd work better than the app in the rooted play store called DiskDigger, which found all the same image files that recuva found, so I wasted 10 hours and missed class and evyerthing.
I still have a copy of the internal memory on my computer. For some reason I can't find even a single one of the photos I took in the camera folder. I think I found like two or three actually and some of them were partially cut off with grey lines. I mean I feel like all 300 photos cant disappear within a day, i made sure not to use the photo at all not to overwrite them. How is this possible?
Does 300 files of photos get overwritten that quick?

Hi, could you find the solution to this? I am facing an exact situation with no help from anyone.

There are lots of software doing this if you google it, can't recall what I used last...

missing file issue?

Since I can't post in the q & a forum I am posting here but mods feel free to move it. So I have a wm6.1 device and a Mac computer and I regularly send files, like cab and music files with out an issue. However, today I noticed that I send a music file like usual and the file is no where to be found on the devices however space about the same size as the file is being taken up. So I send another two files(one music and one cab file) with out an issue at all. Then later on I send a cab file, but I don't see it on the device even though space is being take up. This may have happened prior to this, but I didn't realize it or something. So how can A) regain that space by deleting those files not showing up, or B) find the files that are not showing up and use them as I intended to. I am loosing space because of this. Option of last(and I mean last) resort is a hard rest which I don't like to do. Thank you....

get a good file browser and search for the missing files. You may want to use a wild card search (*.cab,*.mp3)
if you still can not find them look in the folders in /Windows and /Temp or or equivalent on the device
well i am using total commader so I dunno how good that is or not. Not to mention I have done what you suggested and even searched for files added with in the last 3 days and nothing on all fronts but yet the sapce is being taken up by something that I can't seem to find on my device. Memory maid was no help either(granted I only did a clean up). But thank you.
have you tried using the default file explorer?

25000 .txt files - problem

Hi,
I am musician and have big lyric collection, around 25.000 files.
They are all saved in .txt format.
Since i got Transformer idea was to have it with me on my gigs instead of having huge 17inch laptop.
I tried to copy files, from external HDD, over WIFI, from SD card ... and its taking so long, last time i stopped it after almost an hour of transfer. And i think i got only around 3000 files copied.
Do you have suggestion on how to quickly copy/manage all those files on tablet? (no problems on PC whatsoever )
I appreciate your help.
Thank you.
Buy a damn fast SD card and reader, and copy the files to the SD card through the PC.
Or get an USB HDD and plug it into the TF.
Copying millions of small files always takes ages, and flash chips are especially bad at this. And the flash chips in the TF isnt exactly the fastest performing available.
Even my SSD disc on my PC slows down a lot during small-file writing (sometimes as low as 10MB/sec, compared to ~530MB/sec on larger files).
So basically, copy them within, to or from the tablets internal memory will take years. Only "solution" would be to zip all the files so you end up with 1 big zip file instead of 25k small files.
Thanks for answer.
As i mentioned, i tried to copy them from external USB Hard Drvie, as well as SD card, Class 10.
I forgot to mention that i tried to zip/rar files, copy to internal SD and then extract to a folder. Same thing happens. Veeeeery slow. Takes ages.
Yeah, the issue is youre writing to the internal memory, which isnt capable of writing very fast.
Your best solution would be to just keep the files on the USB HDD (if you got USB port for your TF) or the external SD card
Not to mention that transfers of many small files is generally the slowest of all, where large single files are generally much more efficient. No matter what you do, you still can't avoid that problem. My suggestion would be to do as others have said and connect the SD card directly to your computer, transfer them, and then put the SD in your transformer.
looks like that will be my only option
thank you guys

dont know if this method will help but, you could use 7zip to compress the files into 1 file from a PC, there is a 7zip app for android that can open it up and view the files. so you dont have to uncompressed it on the tablet
7zip http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
7zip on anrdoid https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInJ1LnpkZXZzLnphcmNoaXZlciJd
with 25k files, i think you need database. may help make it easier to search and sort through so much data.

Tnx for tip, i will try 7zip definitely!!
Regarding Db,.. thats the problem i am trying to find db app or similar for 3 years now. Wanted to do this on my cell phone too.
On windows i simply use TreePad software and everything is in one big file, search-able(indexed) so i can search for any word inside text and i will get results in matter of seconds.
I wish there is something similar available on android

well, if you looking for a db app these isnt any out there as far as i know, BUT
http://paw-android.fun2code.de/
you could try this. its like running a mini web server on your tf. and it allows you to make connections to sqlite, which is already built into android. so in theory you could be able to make a web app that stores your lyrics and allows you to access it via web browser on your tf (offline too).
it can run PHP, i've only used it to run web pages for demos nothing really heavy. never tried connecting to sqlite though.
http://www.vogella.de/articles/AndroidSQLite/article.html
if you are interested.
Tnx for answer Phil,...
I tried, and still have PAW setup on my tablet with PHP module installed.
There is option in dB program i use on Windows (TreePad) to export searchable (requires php) WebPage of my database, but looks like that their export is kinda buggy and That Exported site sometimes works sometimes doesnt. I contacted them and i am waiting for their answer.
I am still looking for something in this regards,... any other ideas or solutions is appreciated!
Thank you

SD card housekeeping

I have a lot of old redundant data on my SD card. If I have an app installed to SD, when uninstalling it sometimes it leaves the SD data behind. Also, everything on my SD card is as it was on my old desire, I simply put it into my sensation when I upgraded. And I've now rooted and tried various ROMs over the past half a year. So safe to say there's a lot of redundant data on it taking up room.
The thing is, it's not straight forward knowing what's actually used or not, so is there a trick or an app that can help identify which files or data haven't been accessed in ages, suggesting it's redundant?
I use es file explorer, its great because you can look into the folders and see what is actually there . I just cleaned mine out yesterday and found most folders are clearly marked so its not to much of an issue. If there was a folder I did not recognise I looked into contents if I still did not recognise I left it alone. Most folders were easily recognized. Hope this helps

That's just it, I have plenty that I don't recognise, so I'm not sure if they're still needed or not.
Yes I understand you don't want to delete a needed file. For me when I actually opened the folders I was able to see what was inside then took it from there. Hard part for you is finding the old phone files from the new ones. I wish I could be of more help but if your not recognizing the files when opened it makes it really hard. My old application files were clearly labeled so it made my clean out really easy. Perhaps you can find a clue inside to let you know if it was from the old phone or not. Mine was pretty straight forward, I see where yours is much more difficult. Hopefully someone has a better solution for you. I do wish you the best. Sorry I don't have a better answer than looking into the files themself . It worked for me because I was able to recognize my folders. Good luck, I'm sure someone will have a solution.

No problem, thanks anyway.
Most of the folders in the root of the SD card are fairly obvious in most cases. For the ones I'm not sure about I try and Google 'What is (insert folder name)' Android.
The ones in the root will usually be named by the app or publisher name so that helps give a clue.
In the Android/Data folder there will likely be some rubbish. Best thing to do with the folders there is Google them if unsure as they'll usually be named after the APK that they came from.
My SD is fairly clean so I don't have many examples to give unfortunately.

[Q] All camera folder GONE :(( wierd rcvry results (SG S4)

Hello to all! Sorry it's a bit long.
About two weeks ago my friend looked at my camera pics. After he gave the Galaxy s4 back to me I decided to look at them two. But the folder was gone! I tried restart, checked file manager for DCIM and everywhere else, but no camera pics/videos. 2 months of pics and vids....
Then I tried to use Android recovery software but it needed Mass Storage Device connection, which is no more. So I found this wonderful guide, thanks to Wartickler! forum . xda-developers .com / showthread . php?t=1994705
I had a problem with it but about 3 days ago I at last managed to make the RAW file, mount it, and use recovery programs with it (tried Recuva and Puran). The progs found many many files, among pics and vids. NOT A SINGLE ONE FROM THE CAMERA BEFORE THE VANISHING OF THE CAMERA FOLDER (but some of the pics I took after it, and were not deleted). I tried to use the phone and get new info on it as least as I could (only took about 15 photos) to not overwrite the old info and pics.
Even If some, I really doubt ALL of the old photos and videos were overwritten. I am not even sure that there even was deleted info found, at least not in a readable file type for me. All whatsapp pics sounds, some vids, none were deleted before, many G+ profile pics...
What can I do??
I really want the photos and videos back....
Thank you xda users!
up!

Have you checked the LOST.DIR folder on the root of your sdcard/internal memory? Once after I flashed a custom rom for testing, recovery could not find the backup I made before that. I had the same free space in my internal memory so after looking a bit I found that the LOST.DIR folder was taking much space and that all the backup files where inside it with a random name and no extension. Not sure if that's your case but just give it a try.

Hello everyone,
Sorry for the wall of text, long time lurker, first time posting at XDA here, hope to find a solution after days of trying on my own... I am HEARTBROKEN by vscocam on Android... :crying:
I've been using VSCOCam for 80% of my photos on my Nexus5 for the last year and half, I've taken thousands of photos and I want to back them up. The app works as follows:
Take photo using app > photo stored in internal app library > edit photo > export to android photo library (VSCOcam folder)
The VSCOCam folder is located inside /sdcard/DCIM/, but it only stores the exported/edited photos that you chose to export from the app. I cannot for the life of me find the "internal library" folder for the photos, I looked and looked and had no luck finding where the photos or any hints of the app dir itself... only the exported photos. When I looked around online apparently the iOS version has a backup feature for the internal app library when connected to iTunes, Android version ONLY has the "export" button within the app to act as a backup feature. Well that's not going to work because:
1. No select all (ctrl/cmd + A)function. I will not spend hours check marking and scrolling through thousands of thumbnails individually... makes me shudder thinking about it.
2. I will essentially be saving my photos twice or more on the phone, VSCOcam doesn't overwrite existing or even ask, it creates duplicates next to eachother.
3. Exported photos from the app loses all metadata... this one I could afford to lose but it'd be nice to have a date it was taken and not date it was exported.
In my desperation I even chatted with the costumer service staff of the company, no luck, no solution. Only export button. Apparently my cases is very isolated as I can't find anyone with the same problem as I do.... maybe I'm not that bright. :silly:
Even with my limited IT skills, I firmly believe There has to be a folder that stores all the jpg as they're taken by the camera. Instagram does it and so does almost every photo apps out there. I just need to locate that dir... Am I looking in the wrong places? Do I need to root? Please give me some advice on this!!
TL;DR - VSCOCam app is holding thousands of my photos, I can't find the directory that they're stored in. VSCO is telling me "there is no internal app folder." and tell me to spend hours exporting each one manually. I don't want to hate VSCOCam, it rocks, but this is breaking my heart!!!

Oh wow thank you for this!!! I knew it!! :good:
I will try and root my phone tonight. I'll be following this guide.
So I guess after I root, I'm able to view the folders that were previously restricted using Android File Transfer?

i dont use android file transfer but you should be able to use es file explore to copy the photos to another folder that android file transfer can see
I'm rooted on android 5.1 and in ES File Explorer, cannot see com.vsco.cam in /data/data
I've searched for vsco, case insensitive, in root /
And only found the export directory!
Have they changed their storage? In effect, I can't even find the app!!
Bump!
I'm having the same problem. I really need to free up some space on my device, so I want to pull all my photos but I can't find them anywhere. LG Optimus 4X HD (P-880) with root access. I've checked the locations mentioned above, but with no luck. Any help would be awesome!
Up! I have the same problem than Falcon. I want to free some space but can't find the photos anywhere!
Bumping because I'd also like to extract photos that I've taken with VSCO. Although my problem is a little different, VSCO just crashes every time I try to open it and it only started happening the day after I started taking photos with it. The customer service couldn't help much except tell me that CM is an unofficial Android release and their app isn't optimized for it
OnePlus One
Android 6.0.1
CM13.0-20160419-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO2O0-bacon
Has anybody found a descent solution for this problem?
Vsco is a great for the filters but the android-app is horrible. Why can't we just export the original photo's or at least locate them on our device.
