i am considering installing android L but i would like to keep using philz custom recovery. does anyone know if both are compatible?

PhilZ Touch is no longer officially maintained, doesn't support encryption, and Lollipop uses encryption by default.

Phil just posted that he now uses TWRP and when he is finished with his real life projects, he will push commits to contribute to the development of TWRP.
Can. I'm gonna have to learn whatever TWRP uses instead of extended commands. Is that Open Recovery Scripts?

I don't think TWRP works with L encryption either. At least it doesn't for me.

No it doesn't. Philz doesn't work with any encryption though. TWRP no doubt will be updated

I think all the wipe issues in the early days, were caused by some folks who initially tried putting together a CWM, however, really didn't test it before releasing. Problem, they weren't using the correct partition information.
Lately, as far as I know, the more recent CWM builds don't have the bricking issue.
However, it is always possible you can brick your device. So be careful what you are doing. Most of the issues now days, are people mis-matching Bootloader-kernels and get stuck at the Acer screen. Wrong root method, etc.

Clockwork mod backup problem

Hi, I'm having a problem with the latest clockwork mod 6.0.4.5. I made a backup of my rom and even if the operation was successfully concluded when I checked it I cannot find it in the related folder. Any suggestion?
I'm on latest euphoria rom with latest elementary kernel. Thanks

You can, but if you're using Euphoria 1.1 don't use TWRP 2.8.6, it's got bugs. Try finding TWRP 2.8.5.2.
I used to use CWM, because it seems like a cleaner, more elegant interface (I know it's just a list, but it looks less amateurish) but after switching to TWRP I see no reason to go back.

TWRP 3.2.1-0 port

Ported TWRP 3.2.1-0 from official X performance build.
You must have patched boot img with dm-verity and forced encryption disabled to flash anything or modify /system. Use rootkernel method posted in guides forum.
Note that I don't know anything about this stuff, I just followed a guide and it happened to work. I couldn't tell you anything technical.

Update - now working on O with root - https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/stock-8-0-root-recovery-t3747479
Note - decrypt data not working, but system mods working normally.

Does this one support decrypting an encrypted partition? I set a pin lock on the system and have encryption enabled. Entering the pin doesn't decrypt ir in twrp

Haven't tested encryption, but according to twrp changelog, issues on O were improved in 3.2, so probably won't work with anything older. Test and let us know...

I know. I just intentionally keeping the force-encrypt. I tried all of pin, password on swipe/none. None of them work on twrp. I am not sure whether I did something wrong or it is not supported.
Next time I flash I would consider disabling the force encrypt.

I don't think it will work as long as Sony force encrypt is active. You can encrypt device through settings if you want. Maybe a more official TWRP will be able to do it...

Ok.. keep checking the thread, it should be done in 2 days or less
Thanks a lot man. This phone is a beast in quality/price when talking about hardware. Costs a bit more than 100€ and has the same hard than others at 180-200€ at least. Bad thing is software but with your TWRP and root everything is possible . Just found what project treble is, amazing possibilities.
Just one question... does your TWRP make proper working backups? Can I trust that a full backup will be loaded correctly after installing any unofficial ROM to go back to stock if necessary? I made once the mistake of relying a TWRP and later I found out that one was ok for flashing but didn't create working backups

I do have a P900 myself and may be able to help.
Please give some more info about the state.
Battery fully loaded?
Any experience in flashing a ROM?
Which ROM is installed?
Any data on it that you wanna keep?
There is a forum especially for this device so it may be useful to ask a mod to move it to there.

Here is a very good description of how-to (look for clean installation) which of course you have to adopt to your device regarding the files.
